(Updated 6 p.m.)
ATHENS – Georgia, which has sold out every home football game the past nine seasons, needs to sell a few hundred more tickets to keep that streak alive next week.
Less than 600 tickets remained available Wednesday for the Bulldogs’ Sept. 4 season opener at Sanford Stadium against Louisiana-Lafayette, UGA associate athletic director Alan Thomas said.
He said those tickets are part of a large block returned by Louisiana-Lafayette, which was contractually entitled to 4,500 tickets for the game. The Ragin’ Cajuns wound up needing only 490 tickets, Thomas said.
Georgia has no tickets currently available to any of its other five home games, and Thomas said he expects the remaining tickets to the Louisiana-Lafayette game to be sold. They are available on-line at georgiadogs.com or by phone at 877-542-1231. The price is $45 apiece.
If the game sells out, that would extend Georgia’s streak of consecutive home sellouts into a 10th season. According to associate athletic director Claude Felton, the Bulldogs have sold out every home game since Mark Richt became coach in 2001 — a streak of 57 consecutive games. The last UGA home game not to sell out, Felton said, was the Nov. 25, 2000, game against Georgia Tech.
Generally, opponents can return unsold tickets from their allotments as late as three weeks before a game. Louisiana-Lafayette’s contract called for the school to receive an allotment of 4,500 tickets to sell, but the Ragin’ Cajuns took only 2,095 of the allotted tickets initially, leaving Georgia with the other 2,405. Then Louisiana-Lafayette returned an additional 1,605 tickets prior to the three-week window allowed in the contract, Thomas said.
When opponents return tickets, Georgia puts them on sale to the general public. It’s possible there will be returns from other opponents this season; Idaho State (Nov. 6) would seem the most likely candidate. But Idaho State’s contract calls for an allotment of 2,500 tickets and so far none have been returned, Thomas said.

What is there for dawgtards to be proud of? All they have is their football team made up of illiterates and thugs.
Since dawgtards seem to love living in the past, how about remembering the Jan Kemp trial, which exposed UGA and Vince Dooley for the jokes that they were. My favorite quote from the trial was this one:
O. Hale Almand Jr., a lawyer for the defense, offered a justification for the favorable treatment accorded the athletes, citing a hypothetical player. “We may not make a university student out of him,” he told the jury, “but if we can teach him to read and write, maybe he can work at the post office rather than as a garbageman when he gets through with his athletic career.”
The best thing about the trial was that it completely killed Vince Dooley’s shot at Congress, since he was exposed as a fraud and a cheat during the trial. Make no mistake – Dooley knew everything that was going on.
Nothing has changed in the almost three decades since the trial. If anything, the abuses are even worse. Exhibit #1: Jim Harrick and son.
Today the players are even more illiterate and felonious and, well, just plain stupid, as evidenced by their arrest records and record number of penalties. Even Vince Dooley couldn’t have controlled this mob, much less Mark Richt. And now even the AD is a drunk debaucherer.
There’s a reason why UGA is known as The Cesspool of the South.

IT IS EVEN WORSE NEXT YEAR…4 OF THE 7 HOME GAMES ARE GARBAGE.
I WILL, HOWEVER, SEE YOU IN BOULDER!!!

You Dawg fans who keep repeating “30-24″ like a mantra enjoy yourselves all you want. The thing is… Tech alumni and fans have lives that don’t depend entirely on what a bunch of kids does on Saturday afternoons. College sports are fun to follow, but the biggest reason for going to college is to get an education.
UGA fans don’t seem to care about anything but football, and they don’t care if their players are enrolled in silly majors that no parents who are paying the bills would send their kids to UGA for. The very few football and basketball players who graduate have no job opportunities and end up unemployed or working in menial jobs that hardly require a college degree.
Georgia Tech is a real school with serious academic standards, and that includes scholarshipped athletes. UGA has a long history of being a party school, where parents send their kids for an easy degree, even if the degree itself is practically worthless.
Jan Kemp exposed the crap going on at UGA with athletes being enrolled in courses a ten-year-old kid could pass. That was almost three decades ago, and nothing has changed. If anything, the abuses are more blatant today. Way too many illiterate morons are being recruited, and the very high arrest rate shows clearly that Richt does not care if his players have any morals or self-discipline.
The bottom line is that most Tech fans have very good jobs and productive lives that don’t depend on Tech’s football record for their happiness in life. It would be great to beat UGA more often, but when you put scholar-athletes up against dummy-athletes, it’s usually no contest.
It’s pretty pathetic to see UGA fans who typically have never been within miles of a college classroom and who live or die with UGA’s weekly results on the football field.
So keep on posting your “30-24″ all you want, especially since you’re home with plenty of time on your hands. I wish you well, maybe you’ll get lucky and get your old job back at the Waffle House before your unemployment checks stop coming.

@how2fish @ugaclassof2004 – I disagree, you can always be an outspoken fan of your team, but what other way have you to protest performance than by with your wallet aside from not buying their stuff.
As an aside – maybe this is why, long ago, tech fans left buying tickets and went to scientific donations and endowments… Cause the football team is too “hit-or-miss.”

“It’s pretty pathetic to see UGA fans who typically have never been within miles of a college classroom and who live or die with UGA’s weekly results on the football field.”
Is what I am trying to explain. I think you were a bit harsh on the school though.

Its not sold out because 1. its labor day weekend. Georgia people would rather go out of town than see the dawgs play some junior college.
2. The game time is probably early, nobody wants to attend those. Just because you can’t drink/tailgate all day(and trash the campus in the process) doesn’t mean you just shouldn’t go.

Why? Because Louisiana-Lafayette sucks! They suck now, and they’ve always sucked – going back all the way to the 1970’s, when I was a student there! UGA would draw a bigger crowd if they played a top high school team from Atlanta!

It must be getting really close to football season!!! The headline of this stupid article generated all kinds of reaction which is exactly what Tim wanted. Come on AJC, the game is 10 days away. We’re talking about 600 tickets and all the other home games are sellouts. Is this the kind of “journalism” we get to look forward to this season?

Not really. Most GT grads are successfull enough to retire while they’re still quite young, so they have plenty of leisure time.
The same with dawgtards, except they’re home collecting unemployment checks and food stamps.

1. because UGA puts limits on ticket sales for staff members 2. because UGA does not pay staff (not say faculty) members enough to afford football tickets. and working on staff at UGA involves a huge portion of the Athens permanent population.

“we know that life doesn’t revolve around college football”. Well so do we guy, College football is on Saturday so the rest of the week revolves around our interesting lives…College Football is popular all across the United States so don’t think for one second that UGA fans are the only ones who take School Pride Passionately.
Let’s end this dumb circulating comment that ALL GT FANS WENT TO GT, AND ONLY A FEW PERCENT OF UGA FANS ATTENDED THEIR SCHOOL. Lets put all of this in perspective, Attendance and Graduation rate + Uga fans reproduce UNLIKE TECHIES. It only makes sense that Uga has a bigger fan base.
You people are miserable. GT will finish 4th in the ACC this year. Uga will win the East.

If you see someone on the street with a GT shirt on, it’s because they ordered it on the internet along with Star Wars figurines and a pocket protector.

I went to UL Lafayette. The people are very nice at least. Our football team leaves a lot to be desired, but we are excited to be playing such a big name school. Back in the 90’s when I was there, we had a big game against Texas A&M and everyone thought it was a huge joke. We had Jake Delhomme playing for us at the time and we ended up winning. It was a huge deal in the town. Maybe, just maybe….well…maybe not.

College for REAL athletes is a stepping stone for players to reach the higher goal….To play professionally. Which in the end is more successful than most careers. They’ll be calling your alum soon enough to get some lights installed in their summer home.
And lets all be honest with ourselves. Most blog readers aren’t the Wall mart, waffle house, truck stop, gas station employees that you jack0ff gt fan-boys keep calling us. It’s real obvious how bitter you guys are about the past 20 years of miserable football.

I know i’m about a week late posting on this subject, but I had been in Europe for business.
Who in the heck does this PUNK, James Wilder Jr think he is?! I don’t mind anybody choosing another school over UGA, but the way this kid did it is deplorable! He had his people plant stories that he was choosing UGA, he showed up at his press conference wearing UGA colors, then he pulls out an FSU cap?!
There is a thing called karma and it will come back to bite him! I know he’s suppose to be a RB, but I hope he plays LB and one of the bumble bee’s OLinemen do what they are best at, take out one of his knee’s w/ one of their famous illegal chop blocks ending his career! Then have FSU go on to win the game anyway.
Oh what sweet justice that would be! Talk about killing two birds w/ one stone!
