Dogs plan practice game between the hedges Wednesday
ATHENS – There will be a football game in Sanford Stadium on Wednesday afternoon -– sort of.
Georgia’s team will break into two squads –- one consisting of the Bulldogs’ front-line players, the other impersonating Louisiana-Lafayette -– for a dress rehearsal of the Sept. 4 opening game.
“We don’t get preseason games,” Mark Richt said Tuesday. “This is as close as we’re going to get to a preseason game.
“We’re going to play a half of football. We’re going to do our normal pregame warmup. We’re going to have our captains chosen. We’ll simulate a coin toss. We’ll kick it off like a regular game. We’ll have our coaches situated up or down, wherever they’ll be, press box or field. We’ll have our headsets going. We’ll have SEC officials. We’ll have everything we can get other than crowd noise for this game. I’m considering it a game.
“We want them to get used to [game conditions]. We haven’t transitioned from kickoff coverage to defense, from punt return or block to offense, from extra point/field goal to kicking off.”
The “game” will be closed to the public and media.
Richt said any player who might play in the first half of the Sept. 4 opener will be placed on the “Georgia” squad for Wednesday’s “game. ” He said freshman walk-ons Parker Welch and Greg Bingham will quarterback “Louisiana-Lafayette,” while Aaron Murray and Hutson Mason will be on the “Georgia” side.

No doubt, Georgia Tech has elevated it’s play to an impressive level. That said, as a University of Georgia grad, one that will bleed RED and BLACK for life………my sincere wish for the state of Georgia is both BULLDOGS and Yellow Jackets meet in November undefeated. Most tech fans are so quick to get on here and bash UGA every chance they get. Could it be because they KNOW we were better, still are better, and will be better than the little trade school down the road. Keep on wishin Techies, you may be better in basketball (but not for long), but your football program will ALWAYS be secondary to the Bulldogs! SEC dominates the college football landscape, and UGA dominates this state! Get used to it and stop being whiny little terds, you’ll take the backseat and like it.
And TECH BABY, all your comments are completely irrelevant to the point your trying to make. Even when your crappy school make a BCS bowl for the first time in 10 years you lose, and you play an unranked team in your conference title game. You lose your whole D-Line that got eaten alive by UGA. You QB can’t throw a pass over 10 yards and you gimmicky offense will get solved very, very soon. GT has reached its plateau, its all downhill from here buddy. Lucky for you, you play in the ACC, and not the SEC.

We will now observe a moment of silence in memory of Saint Jan Kemp, who exposed the shameful practices at UGA that were initiated and carried out by slimeball Vince Dooley. Dooley’s image as a coach and a nice guy were forever shattered during the trial, not to mention the one million dollars that dawgtards had to pay Saint Jan. These practices of recruiting morons and coddling them for four years, them tossing them out like garbage, are still going on, but at least the world knows what’s going on now.

Serious Dawg fans need to start organizing and demanding that Richt be fired. Otherwise, sports writers will be asking the same question this time a year from now.
Richt represents mediocrity. Saban and Meyer represent excellence and championships. Richt simply isn’t in their class, nor will he ever be. Richt would have to be incredibly lucky to win the division, and the odds against him winning the SEC championship would be at least 50:1.
Those are the simple facts, and there’s no amount of enthusiasm or cheerleading or Top 5 recruiting classes that can get around it.
As they say in poker, “Read ‘em and weep.”

It’s kind of sad to see all the Dawg fans getting so excited this year (just like the year before, the year before that, etc.). How long is it going to take for UGA fans to realize that UGA is simply no longer relevant in the SEC? In the national picture, UGA isn’t even a blip on the radar, and hasn’t been since the preseason #1 ranking two years ago.
Sit back and be grateful for the seven or eight wins you’ll get every year. Coaching genius Mark Richt may take you to 10-2 or even 11-1 occasionally, but Florida will still win the SEC, meaning no BCS bowls and no top 10 final ranking. Most years, UGA will be very lucky to finish in the top 25, and only after a big bowl win over a nobody opponent.
It’s a different world now, and Dawg fans need to adjust their expectations downward to reflect reality.
Unfortunately nothing is going to change until UGA changes its mediocre coaching. That’s where the difference is, and that’s why everyone outside Dawgtard Nation just laughs at Dawg fans getting so excited year after year about what a great recruiting class UGA gets. It doesn’t matter how many blue chip high school players go to UGA, they simply don’t get the coaching they would get at Florida or Alabama, to name two schools whose programs are far ahead of UGA. And that’s not going to change as long as Mark Richt is in Athens.
Get your heads out of the sand and face reality. And mediocrity and irrelevance.

It’s quite comical that tech fans are running their mouth about Jan Kemp, UGA going to Shreveport, and how UGA athletic program is a “cess-pool”…please wake the hell up and look at reality. It wasn’t long ago at all the tech was playing on the blue turf in Boise or playing in a baseball park for their bowl games. And even the last 2 years your “powerful” offense has only managed to score 2 offensive touchdowns in bowl games. You can say all you want about Jan Kemp but less than 10 years ago tech had to vacate wins because they played academy ineligible players. And to call our athletic department a cess-pool??? Look at the rankings of athletic departments in the NCAA that actually made money…UGA has consistently made money and tech can’t even sell out their own stadium. Oh and by the way Caleb King just scored AGAIN on you little silly bugs
