DE Dobbs has sprained ankle; LB Dent joins practice

From AJC correspondent Andy Johnston in Athens:

Georgia defensive end Demarcus Dobbs missed Monday’s practice with a sprained ankle, but coach Mark Richt said Dobbs should return this week.

Meanwhile, inside linebacker Akeem Dent, who had been sidelined since having toe surgery last month, participated in practice, albeit wearing a green non-contact jersey,  for the first time this summer.

Other injury updates: Richt said receiver Logan Gray (sprained ankle) should practice this week; center Ben Jones (knee) is making “rapid progress”;  guard Cordy Glenn (mono) is “getting close,” and offensive lineman Tanner Strickland (shoulder) is “in and out.” Center Chris Burnette (concussion) and outside linebacker Dexter Morant (shoulder) are currently sidelined.

If he stays, Morant should not only be redshirted but should be moved to tight end next year.

And Cameron Newton (Atlanta Westlake) looked good at Quarterback, while Mario Fannin (Lovejoy) ran hard behind Big James Carpenter(Augusta) and Chance Warmack (Atlanta Westlake), Darvin Adams(Kennesaw) looked good catching the ball. Offensive Guards Maurice Hurt (Milledgeville), Byron Isom (Lovejoy), and Terrance Campbell (Austell) form a strong interior front, and coaches were particularly pleased with young tackles Ed Christian (Valdosta Lowndes) and Jujuan James (Suwanee). The sleeper of the group may be center A. J. Hawkins (MLK-Atlanta). Defensively Jeff Whitaker (Warner Robins) was a man among boys. Roll Tide. Thanks Richt. And Thanks Bobo. Keep ‘em coming!

Funny, out of all those names, Georgia offered 2 of them. What’s even funnier is what college football in the state of Alabama would look like if not for high school football in the state of Georgia.

Tide Roll….. Your constant comments on on the talent UGA misses is off base. There is no way Coach Richt is going to get every good recruit in the state of Georgia. Georgia is one of the top 4 states in the nation in high school talent. NO school will ever get all the talent because there is too much to go around. Imagine if the Tide only could recruit in their own state how it would effect their team? I believe Auburn beats the Tide every now and then for instate talent as well. UGA has dipped in to Alabama a few times and got some talented players as well. If memory serves me well it was not that long ago that Tuberville was kicking Bama’s butt in recruiting and on the field. Be thankful you have Saban and rememeber he will not be there forever.

Hey, theses injuries are nothing compared to the usual mash unit we see come this time of year… it’s football, there will be concussions, sprained ankles, shoulder stingers (okay, mono isn’t fitting in here…) but i’ll take it so far. This is nothing like the last few offseasons!

You seem to dislike UGA, that is easy to see……….But who is it that you love ?………with my warmest Best Regards, RED

Still@theBar is just a 22 year old, Perimeter College flunky, bar back at Johnny’s Hideaway who was denied admission to UGA. He lets his frustrations out on the UGA blog because the only way he knows how to lift himself up is by knocking others down. Go easy on him. How would you like to cut lemons, refill olive and cherry jars all night and get no action even from the wrinkled old Buckhead cougars at Johnnys. Sad existence when you go home to your little one bedroom studio apartment on Roswell Road alone every, single night.
