Details of McGarity’s agreement with UGA spelled out
ATHENS — Greg McGarity’s agreement with the University of Georgia calls for him to receive one year’s pay as severance if he is fired without cause as the school’s athletic director.
A three-page memorandum of understanding, signed by McGarity and UGA President Michael Adams, and obtained Friday by the AJC in response to an open-records request, also spells out conditions under which McGarity could be fired for cause.
Those conditions include “certain violations” of NCAA, SEC or UGA rules and failure “to act at all times on and off the campus with appropriate recognition of the fact that the reputation of the University also depends in part on public respect for and approval of those persons associated with its athletics program.”
In the case of termination for cause, no further payments would be made.
McGarity was hired last week to succeed Damon Evans, who resigned in the aftermath of a June 30 DUI arrest in Atlanta. Evans received a settlement of about $237,500 — three months salary and a previously earned $100,000 longevity bonus.
McGarity’s agreement also calls for him to be provided two cars.
Other provisions in the memorandum of understanding were previously reported: a starting base salary of $420,000; raises of $20,000 each of the four subsequent years, making McGarity’s salary $440,000 in fiscal year 2012, $460,000 in fiscal 2013, $480,000 in 2014 and $500,000 in 2015; plus $25,000 per year as a “longevity bonus,” payable in a lump sum at the end of the contract.
If fired without cause, McGarity would get a pro-rata share of the longevity bonus based on the numbers of years worked, as well as his base salary for the next year remaining on his contract.
The memo states that additional and related terms will be included in a more definitive contract to be drafted and signed within 60 days. If such a document is not signed within that time, the memorandum of understanding will serve as the contract.
McGarity is scheduled to officially begin his new job on Sept. 1.

Well you didn’t deny your true identity that’s for sure. So you are saying we will go 12-2 this year–who are the two and do they keep us out of the SECCG? Not our job to get in players faces–Coaches job–I’m gathering you never played the game, I did and let me tell you bleacher sitters could kiss my backside as far as I was concerned. They all thought we should be undefeated yearly and it got old! I only cared what coaches and my dad thought–that was it. We didn’t exist for your glory or so you could brag. Now as far as Bobo, I sincerely wish only the best for him as that also lifts the team. Now as for you–drop the dawg cause you are full of the other!

Actually 12-2, the reason that dawg stephen isnt here, is what happened above and on Bill King’s blog. He tries to have resonable conversations, and cant do it. He has people using his name, and posting under his name.
I can see why he would want user names, and why he hasnt come back to have 4-5 yr old conversations with people like you. Have you seen how childish all of this is? I think I will join him on his blog, and let all the kids have their fun here in the sandbox. be careful here in the sandbox though, i think the cat was here earlier.
