By the time Georgia hired Greg McGarity as its athletic director, 88 people had applied for the position, many of them with little or no experience in sports management.
Georgia released the full list of applicants Wednesday morning in response to an open-records request from the AJC.
Forty-nine of the names, including McGarity’s, were released Aug. 5 in response to a previous request by the AJC.
New names on the latest list included former Georgia football player Matt Stinchcomb, Missouri executive associate athletic director Whit Babcock and Sacramento State athletic director Terry Wanless.
———————–
From AJC correspondent Andy Johnston in Athens:
Receiver Logan Gray was in a walking boot and didn’t practice on Wednesday after turning his ankle in Tuesday’s practice. He is listed as day-to-day, according to UGA.
Gray was one of the offensive highlights in Saturday’s scrimmage with three catches, and offensive coordinator Mike Bobo said Gray “had his best day since he’s been here [Tuesday] and had that ankle sprain.
“He’s done an outstanding job,” Bobo said. “He already had a knowledge of the passing game and what we’re trying to do, but just his improvement daily at the receiver position has been impressive to us as a staff. If he continues to improve and impress and gets healthy, I believe he’ll be in the rotation.”
For more from Wednesday’s practice, including who would start on the defensive line if the season opened now, click here.

Not surprised at all at the number or quality of the candidates. This is one of the elite jobs in college sports.
If anyone doubts UGA athletics is the biggest name in sports in the state (sorry Falcons and Braves), note that besides the UGA fans posts, the large number of rival fans that are obsessed with everything UGA, and are constantly taking time to vent their jealousy and envy.

Turn your caps lock off moron, then you’ll just be wrong, instead of wrong AND childish. Better hope that high school running back Willis you guys got figures out how to pass the ball better than Nebiscoff (fat like Dwyer), b/c you’re the ONLY FBS SCHOOL who recruits running backs to play QB. Look it up before you argue, you’ll only make yourself look even dumber. Still sour grapes that Nick Marshall would rather star on the Junkyard D on saturdays, than be *the man* on thursdays with you losers? This is why its so easy for UGA to bash on tech. We become invested in our towns and by our education become the community leaders. We are on the school board, county commission and run for the legislature. John went off to UGA and came back home. His brother Jim, you know the one who was so good with computers, went off to Tech and I hear he’s living out in California now. I like ol’ John…he helped me out that time.
So through the years the divide between Tech and the rest of the State grows….the more it goes to UGA, the more bitter and defensive the Tech fans get. We make cracks about empty seats and “Coke and hot dog” packages and the Tech guy lets loose on toothless rednecks, pizza delivery guys and then commits the ultimate faux pas by talking about money and salaries. If most of the state was watching this for a game of “Spot the D-Bag” they wouldn’t be pointing at the guy in red and black.

UGA folks can brag all you want to about beating Tech in football most years, and that’s perfectly fair. What’s also fair is to point out that with a history of Jan Kemp (Vince Dooley days), Jim Harrick, and now Damon Evans, the UGA Athletic Department is truly “The Cesspool of the South,” and is richly deserving of that title. No one outside of Georgia has any respect for your University or your Athletic Department, and that is a fact. It has been said many times: “Tech people are proud of their school, Georgia people are proud of their team.” What a legacy to be proud of!
UGA fans can now return to your mobile home parks and resume waiting for your unemployment checks.
And watching those red panties falling from the sky, always a good time-killer for thUGA morons. :-) :-) :-)

Dawgtards love to return to 1980, but their memories are really short when it comes to remembering an earthshaking event that happened a few years later that showed the world what a joke UGA athletes were and what a scam artist their beloved Vince Dooley was (and is). So for all those dawgtards with short memories or who think their athletes are actually taking real courses and trying to graduate, here’s the quote that broke the trial wide open and showed what a sleezebag Dooley is:
O. Hale Almand Jr., a lawyer for the defense, offered a justification for the favorable treatment accorded the athletes, citing a hypothetical player. “We may not make a university student out of him,” he told the jury, “but if we can teach him to read and write, maybe he can work at the post office rather than as a garbageman when he gets through with his athletic career.”
Nothing has changed at UGA, they just do a slightly better job of keeping things quiet, but that’s hard to do when 42 of your player-thugs have been arrested, isn’t it?

I’m hearing that Tyson, Geathers and Anderson are really catching on in the new defensive alignment. Tyson learned the nose position so quickly that he is now the projected starter at on of the ends. Anderson is now projected to start at nose ahead of Geathers but Geathers would provide quality depth.
Between the 3 of them, it is over 900 pounds. With the outside LB’s catching on to the new blitz schemes, our D could be really good.
I never thought that Tyson, Anderson and Geathers could be as good or maybe even better than Atkins, Owens and Weston.

Any person with only a small amount of knowledge about college football knows that major bowl bids usually extend to the better teams that specific year and as a result, one can conclude that many extensions of bids over the years must be the true indication of a program’s worthiness and $$$ value. In other words, money talks and smoke walks.
GT over about 50+ years has been to two ( 2 ) major bowls ……….both the Orange in 67 and 09. GT lost them both ……..one was Dodd’s last, miserable year and the other loss was to slow, white boy farmers from the midwest.
For decorum’s sake, I will add the Citrus, BUT back in the 90s it was about like the Fil A is today ……….a very secondary bowl. Counting this “major” GT has been to three ( 3 ) majors in over 50+ years.
UGA has been to about 7 majors in the last 10. Three Sugar Bowls, two Capitol Ones Bowls and 2 Outbacks. Yes, absoutely UGA went to the Music City and the Independence and you know what? That is money too.
Over the 50 year period, however, UGA must ADD IN about 5 more Sugar Bowl bids, threee Cotton Bowl bids and a few more Outbacks and Cap On Bowl bids.
I am not counting the Gator Bowl , as UGA has only been there twice in 50 years and GT has been FAR more often ………………….I am not bragging aabout the Gator but complaining about this bowl. GT is the home team usually and this is where, if they have a good year, they hope and pray to be.
2010 will not be the year for the Gator Bowl…………..as the Gator has dumped the ACC, so GT will be possibly in the Independence. Hey! Shoney has that great “two fried shrimp plates for one.”
Go Dogs.
All of the above is simply irrefutable for knowledgeable GT fans or grads.

UGA= Program in decline. UGA is a mediocre SEC team and can not beat Tennesssee,Kentucky on a regular basis much less Florida and Alabama. GT is 1-1 against UGA under CPJ and look for that percentage to go up in the next five years. All of your jokes about the ACC, Bobby Dodd Stadium size, etc will not change this. If stadium size is the criteria for a well coach team then UGA may be in top ten. Othewise, your declining program will be lucky to make the year end top 25. 7-5 for Ugag if you catch some breaks this year.

The Wilder young man told his former HS pals Orson and Aaron over at UGA, he wanted to play for FSU, so they ALL could laugh at slaughtering GT year in and year out. Home and away so to speak.
In other words, they will laugh during the year ………. TWICE !!!
When CPJ is canned or decides to bail out at The Flats, it will be simply because he cannot recruit any talented kids because of his gimmicky offense. It is like GT’s history ………..old, tired, too hung up on 1990 ( or was it the 50s?) and the fact they have have returned to Pepper Rodgers’ failed Wishbone and Danny Meyer. AAHAHHAHAHAHAHAH
I think of Thanksgiving night in 74 or 75 when the ABC Sports tv cameras were allowed by Pepper Rodgers into the GT lockeroom at the half and it was so gloomy ………….UGA was up like 42-0 at the half and so for the cameras, Pepper did the Two Step. AAAAAAAAAAHAAAA
Ahhhhhhhh, those fine GT memories …………as recently as last year and looking at the faces on the GT crowd as they CRAWLED out of Bobby Dudd Stadium at Historic Grant Field.

GT under CPJ is 3-1 against UGA and FSU. Bet there was not much laughing in 2008 when GT beat the Preseason National Champs on their own field with 400 yds rushing the second half. UGA returned the favor last year, but now this series is on and GT will win at least 3 out of the next 5 games. If you UGA fans do not think it can happen check back 10 years ago under George O’Leary. The jackets won 3 in a row back then and that will probably happen soon since the Dawgs program is crumbling apart. Enjoy watching GT in early January again since it will way after your pre new years bowl.

I am over 61, retired and I spent my entire sales/marketing career in one industry and primarily ( 30 Yrs ) with a $16,000,000,000.00 Japanese manufacturing firm. Most of my factory contacts were with engineers. I met them in Japan at our factory or often times in Germany. Yes, engineers built product and we ( I ) sold it. I retired while in senior management. I had a great time of it. Made some $$ too. Liberal Arts UGA undergrad degree too.
Here is the truth about GT:
Most of our engineers were either educated in Japan or Europe or they were educated in California. When we dined, I would ask them to name the top PUBLIC engineering schools in the USA and GT never, ever came up. Auburn did and LSU, Purdue but not GT. No recognition.
Now, my dad and granddad were BOTH engineers so this sad GT news does not make me happy. GT is only well known in Georgia and the deep south. Yes, internationals go there because it is so cheap.
I rest my case.
PS ……..they loved UGA because that school gave the factory a crackejack marketing and sales genius and they loved UGA.

Reality hater, I’ll take our crumbling program any day. O’leary did beat us three years in a row because Tech had a better team. Not any more. We may have problems with Florida and Tennessee, but not Tech.

An Inconvenient Truth,
Tech was put on NCAA probation for academic violations, that was 2005. Will you please explain the coincidence between flunkgate and Morris Brown losing accreditation?

http://www.collegelunchboxes.com With Logan Gray out for a brief time I hope that Marlon Brown can take advantage of this opportunity and show the coaches that hew is ready for a bigger role in the offense. I received another email from a dawg fan who is usng their lunchbox as a first aid kit during his family’s summer vacation, good idea. Whats in your lunchbox? Go Dawgs!!!

Reality Check…. the desperation in your posts suggest you are young, your logic suggests you are a dimwit and your addiction to UGA bashing says you are totally envious, suffer from low self esteem and have probably never been laid. In other words…. a typical tek fan

Dawg…. Ruin this State: What in your personal life has you so bitter and empty as to post this type of hateful diatribe? If you need to talk, we in Dawgnation are listening.
We love the opponents who come on here and post witty things, like Ramble On suggesting Lyndsey Lohan would have made a good AD. THAT IS FUNNY! Or the guy who said “AJ Green has been to Miami so many times that his favorite meal is now Arroz con pollo.”
Why so bitter?

LOL…Reality Check, so the series is on when you managed a 3-point win against a Willie Martinez defense. Even Willie shut you down in ‘09. (less than 100yds rushing). Sorry RC it’s known as an aberration, not a sign that the normal scheme of things have changed (i.e. gettin that nat azz spanked yet again). 2008 was a fluke, the last 50 years are a trend…35-15 in UGA’s favor, LMMFAO
