Two players who left UGA team are happy to be back

ATHENS – Two players who briefly left Georgia’s football team this month seem happy to be back.

Freshman linebacker Dexter Morant, who was gone for three days because of homesickness, and sophomore cornerback Branden Smith, who was gone for eight days because of an academic issue, spoke with reporters Monday for the first time since rejoining the team.

Morant said he left Athens on Aug. 3 because “I’m not used to being away from home.” But he said he realized he’d made a mistake soon after arriving home in Manning, S.C.

“A lot of my friends, when they saw me at home, were, like, ‘What are you doing here? You quit football?’ They were, like, ‘Man, we were depending on you,’” Morant said. “They kind of made me feel bad all over again. . . I realized I made the wrong decision.”

A chat with his high school coach, who cautioned against a decision that might lead to regrets later, also helped steer him back to Athens, Morant said.

“In a way, I don’t regret what I did,” he said, “because it opened my eyes to [the fact] I need to be here.”

Morant rejoined the team Aug. 6 and vows to stick around this time.

Smith, meanwhile, left the team Aug. 5 because of a question about whether a placement-test score would prevent him from enrolling in fall-semester classes. Smith said Monday that he had the option of continuing to practice while the issue was sorted out, but “I chose to handle my business.” He rejoined the team Friday after being cleared academically.

Smith, who said he has a 3.4 grade point average, described his absence as “just hard times, man,” but wouldn’t discuss the academic issue in detail.

“I’m just glad to be back,” he said. “It’s good being at Georgia.”

Diving day

Coach Mark Richt canceled Monday’s scheduled practice at the last minute because of rain and instead treated the team to what has become a preseason tradition: a trip to the pool inside the Ramsey Center.

A number of players dove off the 10-meter platform, while others relaxed in the cool water.

“Finally jumped off the high dive,” senior linebacker Darryl Gamble said. “Scariest thing ever.”

Richt also went off the 10-meter board, doing a back flip in slacks and a dress shirt.

The Bulldogs will return to the practice field Tuesday.

Jones’ surgery

Starting center Ben Jones‘ arthroscopic knee surgery went as expected Sunday, Richt said. Jones is expected back for the season opener Sept. 4 against Louisiana-Lafayette.

Well, since you Tech maggots are guaranteed to be here to bash this hard working young man and our dominant program (over yours), I guess I should share some news with you dorks…..

Your prized recruit, Romar Morris commited to UNC this evening, according to our very own Chip Towers, via his Twitter account, sourcing Scout.com. Now before you Techies start pulling the GT classics like “we didn’t want him anyway” or “he wouldn’t have fit in our program anyway”, please read the below story about him just a few days ago and check out the comments you dorks made about him. How awesome he would be as an “A-Back” and how much you absolutely NEED him.

Each year seems longer and longer in between seasons. Just a quick fact I gleaned from my obsessive perusing of all things Georgia today; Mark Richt has never had back-to-back single-digit [winning] seasons in his nine years as a head coach. I guess the ten-win seasons speak for themselves. Here’s to another. It’s Great To Be a Georgia Bulldog — Go Dawgs !!!!

I just can’t understand this canceling practice to go to the swimming pool. When I played high school football, we practiced in the rain. I can still hear my old coach saying,”We might have to play
one friday night in the rain. We need to work on handling a wet football.” I think they are missing out on some things that may help down the road. If lightning was the cause then how can they get in a swimming pool?

First of all, before you Tech maggots comment on OUR blog you need to meet the following criteria…You must have had more than 3 – 10 win seasons in the last 50 years / a better than .575 winning percentage over the history of your programs existence / and you must have at least broken even in games played against UGA in the past ten years / and your stadium has to sit more people than can fit into the Varsity during lunch rush…..What? CMR has about twice as many ten win seasons in the toughest conference in America over the past TEN YEARS? What? We’ve won the last 9 out of 10? What? We can fit almost two of your dung hole stadiums in ours? What? CMR has a .767 winning percentage over a decade in the same toughest conference in America? What? Now that everyone has seen your tickie tack offense it’s just going to get eaten up this year? What? Man Boobs PJ is 0-1 in bowls at Tech / CMR is 7-2? What? Tech is the ACC champion but wasn’t good enough to beat UGA during their worst year ever under CMR? What? CMR has won 2 outright SEC titles and 3 Eastern SEC titles, again in the toughest conference in America – a conference that has produced the last 4 national champions? Tell me again – WHAT does anybody at Tech have to say to US about football???? NADA! If we would have had rings made after every time we beat you under CMR we would be out of fingers – GO DAWGS!

You know I had some doubts about Gray at WR. Not that he couldn’t do it, or that he wouldn’t add maturity and character to the guys. That was never a question. It just seems to me that there must be at least 4 guys that not only can catch it just as well, but are much more skilled at patterns and blocking, and faster, more athletic. But darn if the boy isn’t doing well. I realize they are probably giving him a few more extra looks in the scrimmage just to accelerate his progress, but he has certainly taken advantage of that. We might not see him often, but he could be that sneaky lil possession receiver that just doesn’t get covered all that well.

I understand that Richt spoke with the seniors about Morant and asked them if they wanted him back. It is said that they said “yes” with conditions: He is going to have to earn it. I believe that this is an excellent move on Richt’s part. It bodes well with being a team player and moreover with cultivating senior leadership.

If GT fans want to bash Dawgs on their own site, I and prob many others on this site don’t really care cuz we never go there anyway. pretty decent year ?

You mean like winning 10 games ?

14-game season.

10-win season

3-loss season

No SEC Championship Game for the 5th consecutive year

Something like that ?

With 15 seniors and 4-5 juniors all leaving after this season dawgstephen

With our 10-10 vs SEC East the last 4 years

Facing # 35 South Carolina on road game 2 or have a LOSING RECORD vs SEC East then over the last 5 years ?

That what you mean dawgstephen by a pretty decent year ?

I believe the defense needed to get better, and CMR made a move.
The special teams had to get better, and he made a move.
the secondary had to get better, and he made a move.

Let’s see the moves and let the new coaches coach. I too want another trip to the dome. As a season ticket holder, and one who would gain tickets, I plan to be there. Whether we agree on everything the last few years, we do share passion for the dawgs.

Now, I have posted you 5 posts without a single STAT

You want to discuss the offense or NOT ?

Because if you do want to discuss the offense

Then you MUST address

(1) NO Offensive All-Stars in this great state of Georgia signed on Signing Day 2010

(2) 14 interceptions a year the last 4 years in a row average

(3) 21 fumbles a year the last 4 years in a row average

(4) # 96 NCAA Rank Penalties every year last 4 in a row average

(5) Starting Caleb friqin King the last 5 games despite Ealey # 1 RB

(6) Starting Aron White until game 12 for his 3 catches freshman yr

(7) Despite Orson Charles NFL Starter rest of his 23 catches

(8) Marlon Brown # 2 WR in nation 2 passes thrown to all year

(9) Branden Smith who had 1085 yds receiving senior yr also 2 passes all season long thrown to him too

(10) Redshirt Knowshon Moreno so we got to see best RB here in 30 yrs for 2 years only

(11) No QB prepared 2006 lost 4, No QB prepared 2009 lost 5, No QB prepared AGAIN 2010

(12) WITH Knowshon Moreno # 56 in nation in rushing, played 3 good teams that year LOST all 3 allowing 29, 31 to nothing at half and 42 consecutive points THIS IS NOT DEFENSE this is OFFENSE

(13) WITH Matthew Stafford # 86 in the nation in PASSING

(14) GD it, I am SICK and TIRED of this FAILED OFFENSE

(15) I have been frustrated with this FAILED OFFENSE since 2005

(16) I am well beyond that and the forgiveness of Christian Coach Richt and his walk with Jesus not suspending Branden Smith and Vance Cuff for giving Branden Smith his DL to go buy alcohol so that 7 kids could drive around town in Tavarres King’s SUV for the sole purpose of getting drunk (for which he was given only 1 game suspension)

(17) We have NO DISCIPLINE

(18) We are # 1 in Fulmer Cup Standings today for 2010

(19) We are # 3 in Fulmer Cup Standings over the last 4 years

(20) 47 arrested / suspended since February 2007 of 160 players

(21) 10-in seasons in 14-game seasons 8 of the 10 years now this year for Coach Richt 27 losses compared to Vince Dooley only 21 1980-88 and Wally Butts only 21 losses 1940-48.

(22) ZERO -0- NADA Top 10 Final AP Poll teams beat in ANY BOWL GAME entire Coach Richt Era.

(23) 3-8 vs Top 10 Final AP Poll teams entire Coach Richt Era

(24) be 3-10 vs Top 10 Final AP Poll teams after this season

(25) Lose 15 seniors and 4-5 juniors after this 2010 season and you want me to say that you are RIGHT that we are headed in the right direction

We LOST to Kentucky

We LOST to Florida duh we are 2-7 vs Florida

We LOST to

INTRA-MURAL VANDIE at Sanford Stadium a 4-win team

EVEN WITH THEIR WIN over Georgia at our home

We LOST to a lousy vols team, the vols have been HORRID the last 4 years but WE are 1-3 vs the vols the last 4 years

Hells Bells, we are 2-2 vs Kentucky the last 4 years

2006 the year our OFFENSIVE BRAIN TRUST put Joe Tereshinski III the # 1 QB at UGA, Joe Cox # 2 and Matthew Stafford # 3…

This the 2006 season you want to discuss

AND

our

Well go ahead

Root them on

Sit there and IGNORE the ISSUE

Our Offense sucks

# 52 Total Offense ENTIRE COACH RICHT ERA

And, you want to talk about Mike Bobo doing BETTER than Coach Richt as OC

Coddle the offense

See if I friqin care

I will be there too

BOOING the offense

Sorry about that

I am NOT SATISFIED

And, you ARE dawg stephen

I aspire MORE than these 27 points on our OFFENSE

We have had 38 games where we scored no more than 2 TD

We LOST 27 of those

Tell about 10-win seasons again why don’t you ?

Or, have I finally MADE THE POINT 14 losses last 4 years yet ?

Probably NOT.

Our Offensive Line CANNOT block for the run

Mike Bobo has Knowshon Moreno 2008 and we are number 56 in the nation running the football with Knowshon Moreno. # 56.

Mike Bobo has Matthew Stafford 2007 and we are number 84 Passing offense in the nation and # 74 Total Offense.

8th worst in The SEC 2007 Passing Offense with Matthew Stafford.

8th SEC 2007 Passing.

Mike Bobo has Knowshon Moreno taken with the 7th pick and we are 5th in The SEC in rushing the football with Knowshon Moreno in 2008. Remember 2008 ?

2008 we gave up consecutive points of 31, 42 and 29 in 3 LOSSES.

Knowshon Moreno averaged 14 carries those 3 LOSSES.

12-2

August 17th, 2010
2:37 am

My mother could figure out to hand the football more than 14 times to Knowshon Moreno against Alabama, Georgia tek and Florida.

Mike Bobo and the rest of the Offensive Coaching Staff talks every year about cutting down on penalties, cutting down on interceptions and cutting down on fumbles.

Then, they put guys out there who are not our best players, playing favorites.

Then, they put the better guys deep on the Depth Chart and do not start them.

Even when they prove they are better than the favorites, they still are not made the Starter.

Not 1 year have we gotten our Quarterback ready, not 1 – except for DJ Shockley in 2005.

We have failed again to get our QB ready for 2010 and here we are and we have nothing but issues all over the Offense.

Logan Gray in his entire now 5-Year Career here at Georgia has completed 5 passes with 2 interceptions and 0 Touchdowns. 5 years and these are his totals.

5 completions

2 interceptions

0 touchdown passes

He is not ready. We never get anybody ready around here at QB except 1 guy in 10 years now, DJ Shockley in 2005.

12-2

August 17th, 2010
2:38 am

Our players are injured and stay injured.

Did you know that we have 4 players injured on the offensive line, unable to go now ?

4 OL injured now

Let’s get the excuse list ready.

Write that down.

4 OL injured missing practice.

There aren’t any more excuses.

Which team is it who said they are going to steal Mike Bobo from us ?

I missed that.

This crap about sans the mistakes…

Excuse me, that is the issue with the Offense.

Mistakes.

Can’t line up and run a play without a penalty.

When we do run a play, it’s to the wrong players.

When we do run a play, it’s a fumble

Or, an interception.

We lead the nation on offense for 4 years in a row now in Interceptions, Fumbles and Penalties.

10-10 vs SEC East teams the entire last 4 years now because we cannot even line-up and run a play without a penalty, and when we finally do, it is an interception or fumble.

You cannot say, sans the mistakes.

14 losses the last 4 years and most of those against The SEC East. 10 of the 14 losses.

National Stage ?

We cannot even get out of our own Division.

Let alone our Conference.

To get on any National Stage.

10 years now Coach Richt has not beat 1 single solitary Top 10 Final AP Poll team in a bowl game.

It goes on and on and on and on and on, ad nauseam.

We sit here and make excuses for injuries but many of those too are preventable, such as allowing our Star Quarterback who is desperate to get under center and get some experience for the 1st time in his lifetime under center, to throw his arm out just exactly like we let Joe Cox do.

And, Caleb King with his hamstring.

How did we get AJ Green injured against Florida ? After Coach Richt told us he would throw the ball to AJ more in the 2nd half, we threw the football into 5-man coverage covering AJ Green.

We are without a clue on offense.

NO FUN OFFENSE.

We have no fire on Offense.

We have 1 win against Florida last 4 years.

We have 1 win against Tennessee last 4 years.

We have 2 wins and 2 losses to Kentucky last 4 years.

This is The SEC East.

Worst of all, now 2010 with all the All-Stars on OFFENSE in this great state, and we get NONE OF THEM.

None.

What does that tell you that the recruits in this state want to play Defense here but NOT OFFENSE.

You Dawg fans who keep repeating “30-24″ like a mantra enjoy yourselves all you want. The thing is… Tech alumni and fans have lives that don’t depend entirely on what a bunch of kids does on Saturday afternoons. College sports are fun to follow, but the biggest reason for going to college is to get an education.

UGA fans don’t seem to care about anything but football, and they don’t care if their players are enrolled in silly majors that no parents who are paying the bills would send their kids to UGA for. The very few football and basketball players who graduate have no job opportunities and end up unemployed or working in menial jobs that hardly require a college degree.

Georgia Tech is a real school with serious academic standards, and that includes scholarshipped athletes. UGA has a long history of being a party school, where parents send their kids for an easy degree, even if the degree itself is practically worthless.

Jan Kemp exposed the crap going on at UGA with athletes being enrolled in courses a ten-year-old kid could pass. That was almost three decades ago, and nothing has changed. If anything, the abuses are more blatant today. Way too many illiterate morons are being recruited, and the very high arrest rate shows clearly that Richt does not care if his players have any morals or self-discipline.

The bottom line is that most Tech fans have very good jobs and productive lives that don’t depend on Tech’s football record for their happiness in life. It would be great to beat UGA more often, but when you put scholar-athletes up against dummy-athletes, it’s usually no contest.

It’s pretty pathetic to see UGA fans who typically have never been within miles of a college classroom and who live or die with UGA’s weekly results on the football field.

So keep on posting your “30-24″ all you want, especially since you’re home with plenty of time on your hands. I wish you well, maybe you’ll get lucky and get your old job back at the Waffle House before your unemployment checks stop coming.

And look at the red panties falling from the sky, oh my!

Since dawgtards seem to love living in the past, how about remembering the Jan Kemp trial, which exposed UGA and Vince Dooley for the jokes that they were. My favorite quote from the trial was this one:

O. Hale Almand Jr., a lawyer for the defense, offered a justification for the favorable treatment accorded the athletes, citing a hypothetical player. “We may not make a university student out of him,” he told the jury, “but if we can teach him to read and write, maybe he can work at the post office rather than as a garbageman when he gets through with his athletic career.”

The best thing about the trial was that it completely killed Vince Dooley’s shot at Congress, since he was exposed as a fraud and a cheat during the trial. Make no mistake – Dooley knew everything that was going on.

Nothing has changed in the almost three decades since the trial. If anything, the abuses are even worse. Exhibit #1: Jim Harrick and son.

Today the players are even more illiterate and felonious and, well, just plain stupid, as evidenced by their arrest records and record number of penalties. Even Vince Dooley couldn’t have controlled this mob, much less Mark Richt. And now even the AD is a drunk debaucherer.

There’s a reason why UGA is known as The Cesspool of the South.

Dear Mr. Harrick, Many years ago a football player FLUNKED out of UGA. He then decided he needed to go to a easier academic institution. That school was the concrete college located in Atlanta on n.avenue. I think that school was ga. tech. Do your homework in the future before uttering nonsense again. The PLAYERS NAME WILL REMAIN SECRET FOR OBVIOUS REASONS, BUT I CAN PROCURE IT IF NEEDED. His initials were TS. Check it out.Im sure a techie somewhere knows the answer. For now 10-4. Uh, Retro, we care about all college sports. Ask a UGA fan how we have done against Tech in every single sport we play, and we all know we beat you in everything most years. Sure, we have a down year once in a while, like baseball this year, but we still have a NC in baseball, and we seem to knock you out of the NCAAs pretty regularly, even though you have had such good players. Then there is basketball where Techsters also love to wet their pants over their team. But how many wins does Hewitt have against UGA in his 10 seasons? 4. And how bad has UGA been in that same time frame? 2 trips to the NCAA tourney, one on a fluke SEC Champ we won on your own court! We own your big breast! Congrats on all the college golfers you guys get. There have been some good ones. But again, you can’t beat UGA and you have never won a NC in golf. Uh, we have. (shoot, the school where I got my MBA, Augusta State, has a golf NC from this season!). Anyway, I rarely argue with Tech people because deep down they know they have nothing to say. But when you throw out comments like “All you care about is football,” well, I just have to remind you we love other sports, too.

Education? Got mine at UGA and spent about 34 years with an international firm( Japanese ) and retired quite young …….late 50s. Ran that firm too and all I got from UGA was my fine lil ole undergrad history diploma.

All the UGA partying taught me how to talk, sell and add up figures ……..as found in Kappa house.

12-2 – While many of your points/stats have merrit, you need to take a xanax and chill.

Defense was a problem – he got us a new DC
Secondary was a problem- he got us a new DB coach
Special teams coverage was a problem- he got us a new ST coach who also is the LBs coach a group which has had it’s issues as well.
I’m quite sure he heard the boos on offensive play calling and is getting his hands back in the offense as well.

Everyone one of your “issues” with the state of the team have been addressed, now it’s time to give CMR a chance to see how thoses attempts will play out.

Let me break it down for you with an analogy:

Let’s say you buy a new car. The car is great for the first few years but then starts to have a few minor issues that grow into major ones and the car is in need of repair. You take your car back to the dealer and in no uncertain terms let the dealer know how unhappy you are with the fact your car isn’t running properly and you want to know what he’s going to do about it. The dealer looks you square in the eye and says “you’re right sir, you do deserve better, bring your car in tomorrow and we’ll get to work on it right away.” They replace the broken parts with new ones. The dealer calls you back in and says your car is ready to drive and hands over the keys, again apologizes and says, “We addressed all of your concerns with the car and everything SHOULD be fixed.” Now instead of getting in the car and taking it for a test drive to see if it is indeed fixed, you just look at it and continue to complain about all the issues you brought it in for and say you don’t think it’s fixed and what about the fact that it was broken 2 days ago…See where I’m going with this?

Give the coaches and players a CHANCE to let you down before you just assume they will. If the issues aren’t addressed and there is no improvement then your aruguements will be just as valid in Nov. as they are today. However if the ship is righted and the team is back on track then in Nov you will look pretty silly.

GO DAWGS!!!

I disagree Dawg House. Those aren’t “short” days, each one seems like 5 freaking years. I HATE August. College football is so close you can smell it, but it ain’t quite here. I think they should just do away with the month of August altogether and jump straight into the season opener. As a matter of fact, let’s do away with February, March, April, May, June, and July while we are at it…………. I mean is there really life without Dawgball, I mean college football? Heck, I even cheer for the Jackets when they aren’t playing the Dawgs……… But then I only watch them if there is nothing else on……..

I always get a chuckle when some knuckle headed Technoid comes on the blog and starts trying to talk graduation rates as if Ga Tech actually has their football players perform in the classroom. Last year is no different from the precvious years. UGA graduation rate: 57%. GaTech graduation rate: 49%.

Tech is not only at the bottom of the ACC for graduating their athletes, they would be at the bottom of the SEC, not to mention the Big 10, and the Big East. Only 2 schools in major conferences have lower graduation rates, Arizona (41%) and Oklahoma (45%), while two other schools, Texas and and Oregon have the same 49%. Or 51% failure rate if you look at it the right way.

Feel joy in your academic prowess techies, if it weren’t for Arizona and Oklahoma you could have top honors as having the most stupid football players of all the BCS conferences.

When you factor in ALL college sports, not just football, Georgia Tech has even more dismal graduation rates.

Oh and your ACC “acedemic” rival, Virginia Tech (who routinely kicks the ever living crap out of your football team)? They graduated 71% of THEIR football players. They actually LIVE the standard that you lie about.

Tech players get admitted under special rules, get full time tutors, get to take mickey mouse classes and somehow stay eligible. If they took regular classes without paid tutors, they’d flunk out in the first semester.
