ATHENS – Georgia’s first preseason scrimmage is underway in Sanford Stadium, where about 25 of the 92,746 seats are occupied.
The practice was closed to the media after warm-ups.
Offensive lineman Cordy Glenn and wide receiver Kris Durham are not participating in the scrimmage. Will get updates from Mark Richt afterward on whether they’re injured.
On the field for the scrimmage but in green non-contact jerseys: OL Trinton Sturdivant (working his way back slowly after missing the past two seasons with knee injuries), LB Akeem Dent (toe surgery last month), S Quintin Banks (swollen knee), WR Rantavious Wooten (sprained knee) and OL A.J. Harmon (unknown injury).
Tanner Strickland appeared set to work as the No. 1 left guard in Glenn’s place.
No surprise at this point, but cornerback Branden Smith is absent from the scrimmage. He isn’t expected back with the team until, or unless, his “academic issues,” as Richt called them yesterday, are cleared.
Richt and two or three players will meet with the media to discuss the scrimmage afterward. Check back tonight for updates.
