College Football News ranks Dogs No. 3 — in nation

Georgia’s football team holds its first scrimmage of preseason camp this afternoon in Sanford Stadium. More on that later today. Meanwhile, here’s a quick and surprising note:

College Football News is out today with its preseason national “Top Five” rankings.  No surprise who’s Nos. 1 and 2, Alabama and Ohio State, same as in the coaches’ poll last week. But look who’s No. 3:

Georgia.

The same Georgia that is No. 21 in the coaches’ poll.

The same Georgia that won’t be ranked in the Top 25 of Sports Illustrated’s College Football preview issue that hits newsstands tomorrow.

So why such a lofty and consensus-defying opinion of the Dogs from College Football News?

You can click here for the full report, but here’s part of what CFN says about the Bulldogs:

This year’s team should be back to form thanks to a deep offensive line that will be among the best in the country (if everyone stays healthy), a phenomenal linebacking corps, a strong backfield, and a future NFL star in WR A.J. Green. Throw in the best kicking game in college football, and shhhhhh … here’s your sleeper for the national title.

One spot behind Georgia in CFN’s Top 5 is . . . No. 4 Florida.

Oklahoma is No. 5.

So what do you think about this?

If we go with our strengths, we could win every game. Problems come when CMR tries to make everyone happy by giving them touches. Remember #1 last year? Kid can run like the wind, but he clearly wasn’t ready to be thrown into the fire, but he was promised playing time on both sides of the ball. Led to turnovers…..

Part of the sloppy play comes from trying to feed every DAWG on every drive.

For us to win, I think we need to scale it back a bit. Yes, fewer catches for our uber talented group of TE’s and WR’s, but is our goal to win, or feed egos?

Let’s go all in and be one unit. The goal is 1st downs and touchdowns, not numbers.

I’m not surprised at all. Folks, UGA has athletes 2 and 3 deep at every position! But now we have coaches who demand respect and accountability. Now top 3 may be a tad high but there is no doubt we could beat half of the top 10 teams in the country with relative ease. Look for UGA to be undefeated in Jax. After that I won’t make any predictions.

I cant stand how you UGA fans think that every year is going to be the year you win the National Title. Face it, UGA is the scum of the SEC. You cant compete with Florida, Alabama, LSU, Auburn, or any of the top teams in the SEC. But yet every year I hear all these DAWG fans talking about how “we are gonna take it all this year.”

Kind of lost credibility with “phenomenal linebacking corps” We’re got one star (Houston) but would anybody else call our linebackers “phenomenal”?

See the last post on the 1st page for how CFN did the rankings. It’s going into the season, strength of schedule not counted. See the examples of odd results from those rankings. UNC #13, 6-6?

Butts-Mehre Heritage Hall is not full of trophies for no reason. Did you actually think that UGA was going to stay down for more than a year? Remember in ‘07 they were robbed, yes robbed of the NC game. And I repeat, UGA would have beat Hawaii in the afternoon and spanked LSU that night. Doubt me? Don’t forget what the Dawgs did to LSU in Baton Rouge the next year!

Hey Boca Baby, yea I remember ‘07. When ya’ll were ranked preseason #1? When Auburn came to Sanford stadium for the “blackout game” and smashed ya’lls ass into the ground? Or when the yellow jackets came into sanford stadium under first year head coach Paul Johnson and overcame an 18 point deficit and pummeled yalls faces into the ground? Oh yea, I remember that year.. you say you got “robbed” huh? hmmmmm…….

CFN Preseason Ranking and their project record (totally different concepts):

#1 Alabama 10-2
#2 Ohio St. 11-1
#3 Georgia 10-2
#4 Florida 10-2
#5 Oklahoma 10-2
#6 Wisconsin 10-2
#7 TCU 11-1
#8 Boise St. 11-1
#9 Va. Tech 10-2
#10 Texas 10-2

And then it starts to get strange…

I hope my fellow Georgia fans remember the fiasco a couple of years ago…I swear, UGA fans were acting like that damn FSU scum…and keep our damn mouths shut till we have EARNED the right to run ‘em. Let’s not worry about all this preseason crap, and win some football games.

My bad Boca Baby, your right. I had the wrong year. The problem is that EVERY YEAR I hear about how ‘great’ the dawgs are going to be and how they are going to “win it all”. Sorry, I get all of your preseason’s mixed up because I’m always hearing the same thing come out of ignorant ass DAWG’s mouths. UGA is not even considered an elite SEC team, get over yourselves. Your just going to lose to all the top contenders like usual.

ok Coach Richt will be Co-Offensive Coordinator With Bobo this year. He will be sitting down on all the meetings and will be doing more teaching instead of managing. He won’t have to worry about The Defense and the offense will be better coached. and Richt has put Bobo and Searls on alert they are working their asses off.

Why don’t these guys give us some lottery numbers as well. Besides stirring up blog pages pre-season rankings don’t mean squat. Everything that was said about UGA was true but there was a lot of “ifs” included.

If we stay healthy, if we protect Aaron, if the new defense gells, we could be formidable. The last couple of years we haven’t played with any emotion. We got to play mentally tougher and adjust faster (see Tenn rollout last year) The offense has to be less predictible and we have got to get the ball to AJ.

We could be real good and it all starts by beating SC in Columbia. They always play their best game of the year against us. We gotta go in there and punch them in the mouth. That will be a massive confidence builder and we will then unload on Arkansas. For all the tek fans on this blog. It doesn’t matter what we’re rated we’re gonna crush tek in Athens.

Delbert D. is right. Their model has a major flaw somewhere. Fix the glitch and UGA is lucky to make the top 25. The problem with the UGA fans: They go into every year expecting something that will never happen. The truth is UGA is NOT a top caliber team, especially in the SEC.

As for Bubba, This is one Gator who can say the same thing. Beating UGA every year is getting very boring.
