(From AJC correspondent Andy Johnston in Athens:)
Dexter Morant, the freshman linebacker who quit the Georgia football team on Tuesday, rejoined the Bulldogs today.
Coach Mark Richt said Morant called him on Friday and asked if he could return to the team.
Richt said he conferred with defensive coordinator Todd Grantham and the senior players before agreeing to let Morant return.
Morant participated on a limited basis in today’s practice.
Morant, a 6-foot-7, 240-pounder from Manning, S.C., signed with Georgia in February. He did not practice Monday, the Bulldogs’ first day of preseason camp, and told Richt the next day that he was leaving the team.
But since then, Richt said today, Morant had sent text messages to several players indicating he made a mistake by leaving.
Coming out of high school, Morant was rated the nation’s No. 15 defensive-end prospect by Rivals.com, No. 44 by Scout.com and No. 73 by ESPN.com. He projects as an outside linebacker in Georgia’s 3-4 defensive scheme.
In other news today, wide receiver Rantavious Wooten has a sprained left knee. Richt said he expects Wooten to be sidelined for a couple of weeks.

I mean the kid is 18 years old and from a small town and his first time away from home I mean give him a break its ok to be home sick its human nature when you go off to college. I believe he may have went home for a few days and realized that going to sschool and getting a free college degree is the right choice to make since a lot of kids don’t get the opportunity to go to college. Good Luck Dexter and keep your eye on the prize you will be a damn good dog.

The young man got home sick probably the first time he had ever been away that long. The seniors understood this feeling. Now he has had a soul search and came back. This may not be a bad thing. Leave the young man alone.

Guys, How would you like to be
Bean Anderson. You’re whole future was based on you playing offense. Then you’re moved and there goes your future. Kind of like Kiante Tripp, who Richt predicted would be an 1st round draft pick as an OT. There’s something about Richt that seems a little fake. He professes to care about the kids and then does this kind of stuff to them. Roll tide.

Roll Tise, worry about your Alabama team and keep your nose out of ours. You don’t know what you are talking about. You want to see something fake? look at Nick Saban when he tries to act like a decent human being. Bean was asked if he wanted to move to defense and he was excited about it. Kiante Tripp was asked to move there because we were thin on the defensive line at taht time. They asked these guys if they want to do that, they don’t demand that they do it like Saban would.

Tide Roll.
Bean Anderson has a learning disability that Coach Searels and the other linemen have tried to work with and through for 2 seasons. This issue has made his play on the offensive line rather erratic. Bean’s best chance to play at the next level is at nose guard, where he is now playing.
Before you make anymore STUPID remarks, know what you are talking about. You should feel pretty dumb for your remarks about Richt above. Stay off the UGA blog and worry about your own team.

Duluth Dawg. That’s sounds like more UGA B.S. They must have known the kid had a learning diability when they signed him. I’m sure there have been many highly successful OLs with learning disabilities. Richt is just looking for an excuse to play Chris Davis ahead of him . Bean with a learning disability is better than Davis. It’s not about that and Richt knows it. Maybe it’s because they lack size at nose or they feel that Geathers isn’t ready, but I don’t think that’s the only reason do you? For whatever the reason they’ve ruined the Kid’s furture ,just like Kiante’s. Roll tide

Roll Tide: I’m sure no kid has ever changed positions at Alabama. I mean it’s absurd to think that Bean Anderson at 6′5″ 325+ with explosion off the ball might have a future at the next level as nose guard rather than a run-of-the mill right tackle. You’re an idiot.

Tide Roll,
You are so stupid you must not have a high school education or a full set of teeth (like your Mom who is a Waffle House waitress). Your supposition about Bean and Richt is just dead wrong. Bean went to Hargrave. He was the #1 lineman in Georgia his senior year. Everybody wanted him and no one could have kbown the depth of the problem until he got on campus. Bean is a super kid, very hard worker and strong as bear’s breath. He is going to make a great nose tackle, and you will be eating your words.
BTW, when Saban retires in 2-3 years, Scott Cochran (your S&C coach) is probably coming to Athens. Like I said, you need to worry about your own team. Will Marcel Dareus be eligible? How many games will he miss? Who has Julio been fishing with lately?

Bama grad and fan here. Tide Roll is an embarrassment, we’ve all got them in our fan bases. I wonder if he is really dumb enough to believe he’s a better judge of who should be starting on the offensive line than the Georgia coaches who work with all the offensive linemen every day or if thinks speaking like he’s an authority will fool somebody into thinking he is one.
I have questioned whether Mark Richt has been a little too soft and allowed his team to become a little less disciplined on and off the field the last couple of years, but I’ve never questioned his character.

Tide Roll——The Blogs would be alot better without your stupid comments. Does Alabama not have a place for you to put up your stupid a** comments?? I’ve been reading your blogs about Anderson, and Tripp for too long now. Unless your related to them, i’m not sure how you could know how they felt about the move. Could it be that they are team players and want to do what’s best for the team. Richt may not be the best coach in the country but I can’t believe that anyone would ever say he doesn’t care for his players and try to do what’s best for them. And oh yea, as far as Dexter Morant returning to school. I think it’s great, it would be different if he was a jr or sr leaving the team but he was probably home sick and i think most all of the kids go through that at some point and the senoirs were ok with it. If the coach and players are ok with it then i don’t see where anyone else can act like it is wrong. They know the kid and i doubt any of the people blogging does. Yes, Coach Richt is Great with People. There is no doubt of that. However, our Defense is excellent this season; and where he needed to work on his people skills was in DISCIPLINE and in FIRING coaches, such as his dealings with Willie Martinez and Mike Bobo. Why did he KEEP Willie so long ? Why is he STILL holding on to Mike Bobo ? Why was Branden Smith not suspended for BUYING the alcohol with Vance Cuff’s ID ? Why was Vance Cuff not suspended for PROVING his ID for 7 to pile in a truck for the sole purpose of driving around Athens to GET DRUNK ? Why was Tavares King only suspended for 1 game, getting all these 7 people together for the sole purpose of driving around in his truck to go GET DRUNK ?
Great with people is double-edged in Coach Ricth’s case. Yes, he is Great with People, however, he is forgiving to a fault and loyal to a fault. The kids take advantage of his good nature and great treatment of them. Witness : # 1 in Fulmer Cup Standings for the Most Arrested / Suspended on any football team in America.

Leather Helmet Dog writes this morning about soft out-of-conference scheduling for Georgia Bulldogs through the recent years.
THIS is totally missing the POINT. The Problem with Georgia is NOT soft-of-conference scheduling recently, but the FACT that Georgia is ONLY 10-10 IN-CONFERENCE-IN-OUR-OWN-DAMN DIVISION the last 4 years, and of all The SEC East teams we play – NONE were any good whatsoever.

Yeah, like I said when this story broke this kids parents should drag his butt back to Athens to beg forgiveness. Someone said “it’s hard to make a decision to quit and even harder to admit the mistake and ask forgiveness.” After he humbled himself I think all you can do is hope for the best out of this guy in the years to come.
To Tide Roll…I understand where all your anger comes from, it would be hard for me to go to work where everyone chews tobacco on the clock and I had to wear a shirt with my name embroidered on the pocket. And if that’s not bad enough I had to pull for the biggest redneck team in the country. That’s a lot to deal with when you have so many mental and emotional limitations.

Jerry Rice said yesterday, as he was inducted into the hall of fame, that “fear of failure” was what drove him. He said people had no idea how insecure he was inside. And that insecurity is what drove him to condition and practice so hard.
You have to learn how to use fear and insecurity, instead of let it use you.

What you wan to bet he went home to see most of his HS buddies sitting around waiting for nothing to happen in their lives and had a new perspective and great picture of the opportunity he left in Athens. Sometimes a change of scenery can give us a different focus. Glad he came back to the best opportunity he will ever have in life…a college education. Play hard and learn to overcome adversity. This will make you ready for the real world.
Roll Tide…shut up. As a teacher for over a decade I can tell you many learning disabilities go hidden for years(even into college years). The affected person has usually become adept(accomplished at) hiding the problem so they can get by in life. You have no clue about how or why those lineman were moved. It`s peopel like you who remind me that after being born in Alabama, I moved from the state at 6 mos old. I realized I was already smarter and had more common sense than the whole state could offer!

As DP (another Bama fan) said you are indeed an embarrassment to the crimson tide fans everywhere. I’m not even sure you really are an Alabama fan. What is it with you that you seem so obsessed with who the dawgs start on their O-line? What the hell does it matter to you that you post the same drivel every day on the dawg blog? Good grief. If you can’t say something interesting or neutral on someone else’s blog then don’t say anything at all. And if you really are a bama fan then at least learn that its roll tide and not tide roll. Idiot!

Wow. Soft out of conference scheduling? Really? Has anyone checked out Fla, or Aub’s out of conference schedules over the past decade?
How would last season have looked if we had not scheduled OK State and the refs didn’t screw us in the LSU (in conference, I know) game? Last season was extremely sloppy, but not as poor as the record indicated. We could have easily been 10-3, but that’s sour grapes from a DAWG fan and last season is over.
Regarding discipline………I believe the Athens police are one of the few entities in the country that are still in the black, cuz they write tickets like a mofo.
Here in California, underage drinking on college campuses is considered to be part of the college experience and is not enforced. True, drinking and driving cannot be tolerated, but why so many M.I.P’s?
I feel that UGA is just more proactive than other schools. Wanna see lenient? Look at USC…..Many, many programs simply sweep things under the rug, or look the other way. Everything gets addressed here, because everything is exposed.
Thinks other colleges have this level of scrutiny. Out here in the Bay Area, they think I need more to do cuz I blog about UGA. In some places, college football is an afterthought, and folks just have better things to do.
We certainly lead an examined college football life here…….by our own fans, and from fans who follow weak arse teams and wanna be like us……….

Joey,
You’re probably right. The fact that the idiot continues to post tide roll instead of roll tide made me wonder just what kind of an Bama fan he could be. Besides, some of us such as DP and myself will make occasional comments on the dog blog as long as we’re not flaming but I never did understand why the hell a rival fan would rant about whose starting on another team’s O-line. Makes no sense at all. But if its just saint simons or yellow fuzz than obviously that does make sense. Mystery solved.

I love how Tide Roll and all these other Aler-bammer fans have come out of the woodwork over the last 10 months or so… but 5, 6, 8, 10 years ago, they were NOWHERE to be found when their team was 7-5, 3-8, 6-6, going to the Independence Bowl, getting hit with NCAA sanctions, having their coaches resign in humiliation after nights with strippers, etc. etc. etc. etc.
But NOW, Saban leads the team to a national title, and suddenly they talk like they’ve had an SEC dynasty for the last decade? Hardly… in the last 10 years, Georgia has won more SEC championships (2) than Alabama (1).
Be thankful for last year, Tide fans… appreciate how well your team played and that you won a championship. Be gracious and humble in your winning because you never know when things might turn around and you go through hard times… if and when that happens, all this crap will come back at you ten-fold.
Go Dawgs… and go everybody in the SEC West EXCEPT Alabama!

You know, I was thinking about being that stand-up Tide fan and telling Roll Tide to shut up abd go away because he gives the rest of us a bad name. But when I read all of the comments here, the rude, ignorant , name-calling GA fans seem to outnumber him. If he is a jerk for expressing an opinion about the actions of your coach or players, how much bigger jerks are those who throw out all that trash about Alabama being the armpit, RT’s friends not being able to read, his mother having no teeth or working at Waffle House. So, while I agree that he is an a$$, and that his opinions don’t represent the Tide fan base as a whole, dawg fans (at least not htose posting here) don’t seem to be any classier.

Larry Bird received a basketball scholarship to Indiana University in 1974. However, he was overwhelmed by the size of the campus and number of students and was not mentally ready for this stage of life; according to Bird, “it didn’t take long to realize that I was out of my cocoon.” He dropped out of Indiana after 24 days, disappointing his mother. After that year, he decided to enroll at Indiana State University.
