Murray’s ‘very minor’ injury, Thompkins’ honor, A.J.’s birthday
6:00 am July 31, 2010, by Tim Tucker
Three quick notes to start the weekend:
- Quarterback Aaron Murray sustained what Georgia associate AD Claude Felton described as a “very minor” injury in a conditioning drill earlier this week -– a bruise under his left eye. Felton said Friday afternoon that when he saw Murray in the locker room on Thursday, the bruise was “noticeable but not prominent.” It doesn’t sound as if the injury will be any sort of factor when practice starts next week; a black-eyed Murray joked to Marc (Athens Banner-Herald) Weiszer, “I think I could be blind and still throw it up and [A.J. Green would] catch it.”
- Georgia basketball player Trey Thompkins recently was named a second-team preseason All-American by ESPN’s Dick Vitale. Thompkins is the top-ranked SEC player on “Dickie V’s Preseason All-America” teams. “We’re very excited about Trey and his development and his return to school,” UGA coach Mark Fox said a few days ago. “He’s very hungry to win.”
- And a happy birthday to A.J. Green, who turns 22 today.

As I said GT fanboys are trolls/ noobs ignore them. They will get their annual manhandling soon enough. CMR should be worried about Aaron Murray’s rate of injury, and UGA is finished if he is another Joe Cox, I don’t think he will be.

Maybe your righ. UGA is a famous school, alot of people reading the news, so a minor injury is alot of the times magnified to get more readers. I don’t think he will get injured but who knows, he is hard working and determined. He came back and won from his HS injury

Thanks Berzer. We have a bunch of freaking morons in our base of fans, I’ll admit that. I’ll also admit that a lot of them couldn’t find the bathrooms at Gorgas Library if they scored tickets and got the chance to go to campus for a game. But we have an overall good fan base. It’s the one’s that all of a sudden get a few tickets from a friend or boss and go to campus and act like idiots on football Saturday’s that drive me up a wall.
Look for Miss State to make some noise in the West. I think they will knock off Auburn and be the talk of September. They will peter out a little towards the end, but I think Mullen will have those boys playing some great football.

I propose we keep Murray under 24 hour armed guard. No heavy lifting (5 lb max), no sharp objects, no physical contact other than the occassional handshake, no stairs, a 5 car escort to get him to class safely, no medication stronger than tylenol. WE GOTTA KEEP THIS BOY HEALTHY.

If Alabama wins one more NC this year ………..Nick who is only motivated by a frontier program, will bolt for maybe Ann Arbor. he is not the kind of guy to just be a football coach. once they win the NC again, and it is possible with his current squad, he is gone.
Urban? He cnnot take the stress ……….. he too will bolt. Ocala Rehab will leave his light on.
The worm is turning in the SEC and all things run in cycles. Auburn is about to be heard from and so is UGA.

Dr. Joe, well said. And I would like to add this comment to my esteemed colleague’s remarks. Alabama seems to be the last resort for many desperate families whose children are denied admission at other, more credible colleges and universities. I am personally aware of at least 4 families, all of whom live in Georgia, that fall into this category. Their children either failed to gain admittance at Georgia or enrolled at smaller schools where they flunked out. All of them ended up at Alabama where there are only 2 criteria for admittance: You have to have a pulse and your check can’t bounce. Kudos to Alabama for giving these “special” kids an opportunity to experience college life for 7 or 8 years until it’s time to go to work full time at Piggly Wiggly.

Wonder if some of these posters that always show up on UGA blogs, were denied admission to the university, or had a family member be denied? One explanation for the UGA envy/jealousy shown consistently by some posters, even those whose own favored schools are doing well at the moment.

I agree with phillip, Miss. State will give people fits this year. Florida was just able
to get of Starkville with a win last year(29-19). State played the Gators much tougher than the dawgs (41-17) did in Jacksonville. You folks will get a taste of MSU and thoses “cow bells” this year, so buckle up and be prepared for all you want and be greatful if you
can get a win done there.

We’re bound to do better in Jax this year, because our tailbacks will be wearing finger proof face shields. They’re a must, you know, when you’re playing the Brandon Spikes school of retina surgery. Where most modern eye doctors use laser, at University of Fingers, a student is taught to use their fingers and why not? Heck, it’s not like a ref is gonna stop em’ The downside I guess will be Timmy’s gone, but a generous supply of Zoloft over there with the gatorade ought to take care of any sudden panic attacks, especially after Brantley gets knocked out.

GTDawg….why on earth would Murray be a priority recruit for the Gators when they had Tim Tebow (Jr), Cam Newton (RSFr), and Brantley (RSFr.) already on the team. What was, Meyer, desperate for a 4th string QB that would be a backup at Florida his entire career. Murray was NOT a priority recruit for Meyer…if you think he was, you are just fooling yourself into thinking so. Meyer had no way of knowing Newton would have his issues. Jordan Reed was the 4th QB recruit the year both he and Murray came out (Reed is now a 6′4 250lb athletic TE for the Gators who will also run from the QB position in 3rd and short…like Tebow.

Georgia finished outside the top 25 for the first time since 1996. The Bulldogs have a new defensive coordinator, a new defensive scheme (the 3-4) and a freshman quarterback in Aaron Murray. If the Bulldogs lose at South Carolina in their SEC opener, Mark Richt will join Miles on the endangered coaches list. Orlando Sentinel
And if Richt loses to Miss.State ya’ll need to to make a “smart” call to Kirby. Look, ya’ll are about to hire an AD from Florida, you might as well get a head coach from Alabama, two schools that are 1st class and know how to win. Don’t forget get you travel to Starkville right after the Arkansas game that will tougher than you think. Neither you nor the Hogs have a defense, so who ever has the ball last will win—-49-42.

Also….it is clearly known in the Tampa Bay area that Murray picked Georgia knowing the above facts…Tebow, Newton, Brantley already on the Gators….and he also knew he would not be able to beat out Brantley when it was his turn. Just the facts of the situation. If Brantley had gone to Texas, Mr. Murray would be a Gator right now.

Actually, the only reason Florida had any interest in Murray was they really wanted O. Charles to come with him, just like he did at UGA. Now Charles is a player and will be all SEC this or next year for sure. There are just too many good QB’s ahead of Murray for him ever to be an all SEC QB.———-Book it.

Wow, way to improve your stats Tim. Who cares about a black eye? Why would you write this non-story, and give it a title that implicates that Murray is injured.
To be injured means to be on the sideline. An athlete can still play when he is hurt. To call this an injury is very misleading.

Gatorbait 17-3….actually….Charles and Murray were always a package deal for Georgia and Murray was never goining to be a Gator The Gator coaching staff pushed hard for Charles to the very end, well after Murray had committed to Georgia and Charles hadn’t yet. If Charles had gone to Floirida, Murray would have still gone to Georgia because of the depth chart at QB for Florida at the time. Again…if Brantley had stuck with his original commitment to Texas the year he came out, then both Murray and Charles would both be Gators now…no doubt about it. But Charles also saw Aaron Hernandez (soph then) ahead of him and that hurt the Gators in the recruitment of Charles…although I believe all along he wanted to play with Murray in college.

Dawg fans….I too think you guys have a much more talented and inspired team this year. But you better now be looking to the Gators and forget about your trips to Columbia and Starkville. Both are upset pits. You better hope both of those games are played during the day….if at night….it could be very tough for you in both games. Also….Arkansas has a very talented offense and an improved defense (but still not that good on defense) and will give you guys all you want in Athens as well. Your team and the Dawg fans better be thinking one game at a time. And I think the Vols will be fired up when they come to Athens as well.
Florida has its own challenges as well….and I know they are focused on just one thing right now….Miami of Ohio. You better hope your team is focused on game one, game two, game three….and not just looking forward to playing the Gators as the fans of the team seem to be. The same can be said about Alabama and the Gators….and Bama has become the #1 rival for the Gators in the SEC (although they will not be playing them every year….so it can’t be an annual rival.)

When I saw this on the front page as I came to this website “Murray gets injured in conditioning drill” my heart sank. We cannot afford an injury to Murray. Huston Mason is a true freshman and they are never good playing in the SEC. Logan Gray is more of a spread option QB, he will never be a true drop back passer. We need Murray to stay healthy and at least survive this season because next season we’ll have depth with LeMay coming in, and Mason gaining another year of experience.

Have to admit, some of the Murray comments are pretty comical. Hey Dawgs, gators are the king of the road until we can beat them. I like our chances this year. I don’t really want to think about the Florida game however. My 1st concern is the SC game. Tampagator is correct. We better be thinking of one game at a time and not get ahead of ourselves.
As for Murray, I live down here in Tampa, you jokesters please keep thinking that he won’t do well. I’ve seen this kid play when Dr’s said for him not to. He will do very well for us. He brings a lot to the table in talent and confidence. I look forward to him making believers out of a lot of people.

Why is it that Gator fans troll all the AJC sports blogs that address UGA concerns if the Bulldogs are as irrelevant as they contend? And I’d like to remind Bammy fans that pre-Saban, their football program was a “mess.” Absurd comments from Bammy and Gator fans on these blogs are the norm because of their hate. Some folks would rather find the negative than the positive. I don’t expect fans of opponents on the dawg’s schedule to throw bouquets at UGA but the obsession of some goes beyond comprehension. Personally, I don’t have any inclination or time to deride other schools. And one more thing, being a Gator or Bammy fan doesn’t lend credibility to everything you spout. UGA has a storied football history that can not be erased and their academics as a public university for many of their schools on campus has been and will continue to be among the top 20 in the US.

Dr. Joe. Pot meet kettle. A uga (u got arrested) diploma is only good in one place. In Georgia. Outside of Ga. this degree from this so called university is almost worthless. The only degree of any consequence from uga is in the vet school. For you to point out that Alabama is not a university in the truest sense, due to its “lunatic” fan base and the attitude it brings, is a testament to most of the SEC schools, and certainly your “university” in Athens. Your win at all cost goes all the way back to the Wallace Butts era and certainly continued with Dooley and his policy of letting fourth and fifth year players remain eligible staying in remedial studies never working towards a degree. I quess you have forgotten Jan Kemp. Your problem is your so called “university” has never won on the scale that Alabama has, so now you take shots at it. Seems you have alot more to worry about in Athens such as way to many player arrest along with an AD arrest that makes you look like the laughing stock of a “university” that you truly are. A president that seems to be hated by the alumni, oh, I mean the football “lunatis fans”. However if it makes you feel better take a shot at Bama, GT, Tenn or anyone else. Your ignorance in “calling out Bama” is duly noted. Pot meet kettle has never fit more appropriately.
