Murray’s ‘very minor’ injury, Thompkins’ honor, A.J.’s birthday

Three quick notes to start the weekend:

  • Quarterback Aaron Murray sustained what Georgia associate AD Claude Felton described as a “very minor” injury in a conditioning drill earlier this week -– a bruise under his left eye. Felton said Friday afternoon that when he saw Murray in the locker room on Thursday, the bruise was “noticeable but not prominent.” It doesn’t sound as if the injury will be any sort of factor when practice starts next week; a black-eyed Murray joked to Marc (Athens Banner-Herald) Weiszer, “I think I could be blind and still throw it up and [A.J. Green would] catch it.”
  • Georgia basketball player Trey Thompkins recently was named a second-team preseason All-American by ESPN’s Dick Vitale. Thompkins is the top-ranked SEC player on “Dickie V’s Preseason All-America” teams. “We’re very excited about Trey and his development and his return to school,” UGA coach Mark Fox said a few days ago. “He’s very hungry to win.”
  • And a happy birthday to A.J. Green, who turns 22 today.

Let’s not get ahead of ourselves. Lot’s can happen between now and then. It still has to be settled on the field.

All these weapons on offense but we still have a sub par offensive coordinator directing the show. There is a reason Richt is having to get more involved in the offense and it is not a good sign.

Why is it that only the UF goons call Murray a “midget”? It has to be because they’re still shocked about him choosing UGA over UF. I do recall him being a priority recruit for Meyer last two years ago, so I’m guessing it’s sour grapes.

Oh, by the way….I know, I know…you’ll come back with “huh huh 17-20, 17-20, soon to be 18-20, that’s my new name (wipe chin)”…but that’s not really what I’m posting about here is it? If it makes you feel better, here let me help…

UF HAS DOMINATED UGA FOR TWO DECADES. WE’RE LOOKING TO GET BACK IN THIS RIVALRY SOON. CONGRATS ON YOUR LAST TWO WINS, THEY WERE IMPRESSIVE. SEE YA IN JAX IN A FEW MONTHS…

Who cares. Richt stands by as Auburn picks up Cameron Newton (from Atlanta by the way), and Ole Miss. lands Masoli. And don’t talk about baggage Uga fans. Ya’ll lead the nation in arrests.UGA stands for U Got Arrested. All this Murray stuff is just a way for Richt to have Georgia fans “look to the future” so he can buy three more years on the gravy train. No more two a days is wierd. He probably arranged this so he can go watch his kid practice at high school. Uga is a mess. No AD, a despised president, and a coach with a priority problem. Good Luck Dawgs. At least this way you don’t see us in the Dome. Roll Tide.

Speaking of “Experienced” offensive line………….what the status of the Sturdivant kid (sorry if I mis-spelled his name)? How’s his rehab coming? Is he going to be ready for the season? And if he’s not 100% during the season, how will that effect the ” Experienced” offensive line?

Hey Ummmmmm. The staff isn’t counting on Sturdivant as being part of the equation this year. If he makes it back, it’ll be gravy, but the line is solid and experienced without him.

His rehab is going well, however, and the plan is to ease him back into action slowly.

One of your favorite Orlando Sentinel writers

Georgia fans have way too high of an opinion of their program. In fact, I believe an argument could be made that Georgia is the the most overrated program in college football history.

Think about this: Georgia has won one national title in the modern era and that came 30 years ago in 1980. And the only reason it happened then is because of two lightning-in-a-bottle happenstances: The Bulldogs were fortunate enough to sign arguably the greatest player in college football history (see Herschel Walker) and they were lucky enough to take advantage of one of the biggest fluke plays in college football history (see above video of Lindsay Scott’s catch-and-run against Florida during the national championship season).

Truly Overated…

Whew, we sure were lucky. Of course, UF signed arguably one of the greatest college football players in history (Teebow) and got some fluke officiating the past few years.

Should you vacate your wins guys? Give back that crystal ball?

How assinine…duh, it doesn’t count, they had Herschel Walker on their team, what luck…lmao

Yes, so overrated that the Orlando Sentinel journalist wannabe dedicated an entire story citing some really nice moments in UGA history. I wonder if he/she bothered to mention UGA finished #2 the year we danced on the end zone of UF’s loss to UGA in 2007? I wonder if he/she bothered to remind the readers UGA began the season at #1 in 2008? Another insecure UF fan who will see their golden days turn to brown, just like they all do eventually…but probably sooner rather than later.

What do you mean “a coach with a priority problem”, Tide Roll? CMR is a professed Christian and his first priority is to bring glory to God in all that he does. If you have ever listened to him speak, you would know that. He can not be around all of the players all of the time, and kids will be kids regardless if they are athletes or not. I see UGA shocking a lot of folks this year with the relatively “easy” schedule and lots of experience back.

BTW don’t forget the Gators D which will be faster than ever. I personally think that Murray will be on the bench at Jax due to the first 2 game losses at USC and a home loss to the razorbacks..the pups will have at least 3 losses by the end of Oct and 18 out of 21 after the debacle in Jax. You sissies should be used to the butt whippins by now.

Well let’s just say what most people think about the University of Alabama. Its football pursuits justify its identity with an uneducated backward population and symbolic link to the Lost Cause. It is truly ironic that the exploitation of a less-powerful racial group serves to inoculate the U of Alabama from pressure to improve the state or to stimulate change. Football “success” has stalled its transformation into a modern university with intellectual, aesthetic or humanistic concerns. The state of Alabama may be last in a lot of things but Bama fans can cite to the world that it is first in football.
Also the University of Alabama’s misplaced priorities (football fluff over economic substance) harm the state’s growth and development as the Crimson Tide football team is outlet for the lunatic fringe and a venue for them to be recognized. Too often though the holy crusade of Bama football acts as an umbrella under which the range of political and social opinion is from Y to Z. Thus when a university simply reflects the attitudes of its football fans….. It is no longer a university in the true meaning of the word.
The NCAA would actually be doing the University of Alabama a favor by handing down a ‘Death Penalty’ for its football team. It will be only then that its faculty, alumni and students will appreciate the scholarship and learning that mark a university with intellectual fiber and integrity. Indeed until that happens “roll tide” is the mortifying apology for those without individual self-esteem or dignity.

This Aaron Murray guy is an weakling. When he played for planet HS, he had to sit out for 6 games, bc of injury. This is only the beginning for him at Uga, this kid will have an injury every week. by the looks of things Logan Gray will be UGA real QB.
