A hot rumor spread from the West Coast on Wednesday that the USC football team would come to Atlanta to play Georgia in the 2011 Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game. (It spread the new-fashioned way, from Twitter to message boards.) But Gary Stokan, the game’s president, denied the rumor when I called to ask him about it Wednesday night.
He said there have been talks with USC about a possible appearance in the 2011 game — but not, he said, against Georgia.
“Georgia is not a possibility for 2011,” Stokan said.
He said UGA, through former athletic director Damon Evans, expressed interest in playing in the season-opening game in the Georgia Dome at some point in the future but indicated the next few years wouldn’t work schedule-wise.
Georgia is scheduled to open the 2011 season against Louisville in Athens.
As for USC, Stokan said Trojans coach Lane Kiffin sent him a text message in February to suggest a 2011 Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game matchup against his former team, Tennessee. “It’d be a great storyline,” Stokan quoted Kiffin as telling him in a subsequent phone conversation. Stokan said new Tennessee coach Derek Dooley later told him he’d be willing to play USC in Atlanta — after he has three years or so to get his program established.
The bottom line, Stokan said, is that the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game still doesn’t have a 2011 matchup.
“We don’t have an opponent [for USC],” Stokan said. “We don’t have USC either.”
Stokan does have matchups for 2010 (LSU-North Carolina on Sept. 4) and 2012 (Tennessee-N.C. State).
++++++++++++++++
Speaking of scheduling: Georgia hasn’t finalized or announced its 2010-11 basketball schedule yet, but the Bulldogs will open the season at 7 p.m. on Nov. 12 in the new-look Stegeman Coliseum against Mississippi Valley State. That’s according to a schedule posted on the MVSU website.

If we played in the PAC-10 we would easily have a few, just like USC has seven of the nine.

The best reason to play an OOC team like Arizona St., Colorado, Oregon, or Oklahoma State is that you get to take a really nice trip in the Fall. I went to the Arizona State game in Phoenix and had a great time. Every Bulldog that went had a great time. As a matter of fact, we would have had a great time even if we had lost.
This year we are going to Colorado and are planning on doing a lot more things than just going to a football game. The game is the reason for the trip, but as long as you are there, travel around and see the sights.
Looking at the Florida schedule, their best OOC game this year is, “well” they don’t have an OOC game this year. To bad for them and their fans.

If Tech’s schedule is sooo great why can’t they fill a High School stadium in the middle of Atlanta. Why can’t they win a BOWL game. Why can’t they get them Fine Southern Bells like GEORGIA (Kirk Herbstreet ranked UGA’s co-eds as the Hottest in the Nation). Why can’t they get thier own blog. Why can’t they get the fact DAWGS 30-techies 24???

May I suggest that Florida be required to drive all the way up to the Georgia Dome, instead of the yearly trek the DAWGS have to make, to Jacksonville?
The thing is, when Florida starts having to ride a bus for hours, on end, their winning ways, with the DAWGS, will end!!

Experience (and lack of) on the O-line
Georgia is at the head of the class in the SEC, and it’s really not even close.
The Bulldogs return four players with more than 20 career starts on the offensive line, and their five projected starters coming out of the spring combined for 127 starts.
That’s almost 20 more starts than second-place Auburn, which has 108 career starts among its five projected starters.
Georgia’s numbers look even better when you throw junior tackle Trinton Sturdivant into the mix. He’s started 14 career games, but only one in the past two seasons because he’s battled knee injuries. Sturdivant started 13 games in 2007 as a true freshman left tackle. He hopes to return this season.
Georgia and Auburn are the only two SEC teams whose projected offensive line starters combine for 100 or more career starts.
While Georgia’s at the top with 127 starts, Tennessee’s at the bottom with only three career starts.
Auburn senior left tackle Lee Ziemba has started in every game since his freshman season in 2007 — a streak of 38 straight games — which is the most in the SEC for an offensive lineman.
Even though offensive line experience is important, there are exceptions. Alabama had one of the best offensive lines in the nation last season. The five guys who wound up being the starters had a combined 41 career starts entering the season. But here’s the catch: Two players (left guard Mike Johnson and right tackle Drew Davis) had all 41 of those starts.
Here’s a breakdown of the entire league. Keep in mind these are only projected starters going into preseason camp and that some of these names could change:
1. Georgia: 127 (Chris Davis 37, Clint Boling 36, Ben Jones 23, Cordy Glenn 22, Josh Davis 9)
2. Auburn: 108 (Lee Ziemba 38, Ryan Pugh 31, Mike Berry 21, Byron Isom 18, Brandon Mosley 0)
3. Arkansas: 87 (DeMarcus Love 24, Wade Grayson 23, Ray Dominguez 20, Seth Oxner 13, Grant Cook 7)
4. Mississippi State: 82 (J.C. Brignone 24, Quentin Saulsberry 24, Derek Sherrod 22, Addison Lawrence 12, Tobias Smith 0)
5. Florida: 79 (Mike Pouncey 31, Carl Johnson 22, Marcus Gilbert 17, Xavier Nixon 5, James Wilson 4)
6. South Carolina: 52 (Jarriel King 19, T.J. Johnson 13, Terrence Campbell 11, Kyle Nunn 7, Garrett Chisolm 2)
7. Alabama: 42 (James Carpenter 14, Barrett Jones 14, William Vlachos 14, D.J. Fluker 0, Chance Warmack 0)
8. LSU: 41 (Joseph Barksdale 26, Josh Dworaczyk 13, Patrick Lonergan 2, Will Blackwell 0, Alex Hurst 0)
9. Kentucky: 27 (Stuart Hines 13, Brad Durham 7, Jake Lanefski 4, Billy Joe Murphy 3, Larry Warford 0)
10. Vanderbilt: 24 (Kyle Fischer 18, Joey Bailey 5, Ryan Seymour 1, Justin Cabbagestalk 0, Wesley Johnson 0)
11. Ole Miss: 22 (Bradley Sowell 12, Bobby Massie 5, Rishaw Johnson 4, Alex Washington 1, A.J. Hawkins 0)
12. Tennessee: 3 (Jarrod Shaw 3, Ja’Wuan James 0, Cody Pope 0, JerQuari Schofield 0, Dallas Thomas 0)

Joke you are right UGA has the Hottest dumbest chicka ever. Date rape is the only sport UGA wins a National Championship in every year. Athens has more bars than legal age people can support. People in Atlant have other things to do beside college football. Old men getting Chitfaced looking at 18-20 yr. old girls is all most UGA fans have to do. Have you seen their wives? If a UGA fan ain’t drunk with a gun deer hunt’n, then they are drunk at the game. Why does UGA have only 2675 African Americans, 1400 Asians, and 100 Hispanic students of the 26k+ student body? UGA is a WHITE girl school. UGA the flagship Institute for binge drinking white frat boys and fake blonde suburban chicks with blacks playing sports.

Georgia has a tradition of avoiding the out-of-conference big boys of college football like the plague. This dates back to Dooley’s days as AD because it made Coach Dooley’s job easier. Don’t see it changing anytime soon.

Why would Georgia have to avoid big boys out of conference? We already have enough big boys to play in our own conference? Doesn’t make any sense. If your playing Ala, Florida, Lsu, Tenn, Auburn, SC then turn around and play the second strongest team in the (strongest conference in the country) again to even make it to a national championship then the SEC can whip the other big dogs on the grand stage?
