(Click here for lots of notes from last night’s Greater Atlanta Bulldog Club meeting.)
Georgia linebacker Akeem Dent, a projected starter, had surgery early this morning on an injured toe and is expected to be sidelined for four to six weeks, UGA said.
That timeline means Dent will miss most, if not all, of preseason practice and makes him questionable for the Sept. 4 season opener against Louisiana-Lafayette.
Georgia said Dent injured his left big toe in an off-field accident last week. Details on the injury were not released.
Dent had outpatient surgery performed at St. Mary’s Hospital in Athens by orthopedic physician Dr. Joe Johnson, the UGA football team’s foot and ankle specialist.
The surgery came on the morning after coach Mark Richt told the Greater Atlanta Bulldog Club that the team seemed set to enter preseason camp “the healthiest we’ve been since I’ve been at Georgia.”
Dent, a senior from Atlanta, came out of spring practice No. 1 on Georgia’s depth chart at strong-side inside linebacker. which Georgia calls the “Mike” linebacker. Sophomore Mike Gilliard and senior Akeem Hebron were Nos. 2 and 3 on the depth chart behind Dent at that position.
At the weak-side inside-linebacker spot, called the “Mo” position, redshirt sophomore Christian Robinson emerged from spring practice as the starter, with junior Marcus Dowtin No. 2 and junior Richard Samuel, a converted tailback, No. 3.
Dent’s injury will lead to some shuffling between the two inside-linebacker spots in preseason practice, which begins next week. If Dent misses the season opener, Robinson and Dowtin likely would start at the two ILB positions.
Dowtin started four games last season, including the wins over Georgia Tech in the regular-season finale and Texas A&M in the Independence Bowl. Dowtin was third on the team in tackles for the season with 57, more than any other returning player.

http://www,collegelunchboxes.com Looking on the bright side it will give Gilliard and Hebron some much needed experience. Don’t forget Kroger has the UGA classic tin lunchbox just like your Mom and Dad use to use. Except you can use it to carry your poker chips, playing cards and the wads of cash that you won off of your Bama and Gator fans. Go Dawgs!!!

College: the fat butt kids can’t carry enough food in that lil box. College ain’t forever either unless you go to UGA and just keep pimping mom & dad for money and studing joke classes.

If georgia school kids had a box full of cash it wouldn’t be from winning bets. Georgia students can’t do math or count cards or win a point spread. If Georgia kids had a box of money it would be from selling Sex, Drugs, or stolen items. Get real.

Greatful becaue the DAWGS don’t recruit player that can pass real classes. Because CJP went to the pass too early instead of continuing to run the ball. Because UGA fans have nothing better to do than to go to a football game in DA BIG CITY wearing there Sunday best! A football game is an excuse for a DAWG to be drunk infront of the kids and in public. The extra driving while drunk is just a plus.

UGA fans wives hate football games because it means their men can’t kill no deer and bring home food and they just get drunk and chase their daughters thrugh the house.

So that’s what, 4 players coming into the fall returning from some form of injury? We had something like 28 last year that missed the spring or summer, several back from season ending injuries the year before. We will takes some hit in camp as every team will, but this does seem to be the healthiest the Dawgs have gone into August in a long time.

Wonder if it will impact keeping a shirt on Samuel. He is expected to shirt, right???
Don’t know if I’m off-base, but I was under the impression that he was making a rather slow adjustment back to “D”.
Wonder if this just throws him right in it.

And here’s the latest word (not necessarily the final word) on whether tailback-turned-linebacker Richard Samuel will redshirt this fall:
Probably not.
“We think he can help us on special teams also, but he’s going to play scrimmage downs for us,” Richt said. “We were talking about maybe redshirting him at one time, but I doubt very seriously we’ll be able to redshirt him because we need depth and he’s a guy that we think is going to make plays for us.”
Sorry y’all. Didn’t read the whole thing……

Must be a full moon – Burdell, the tech fan, was polite and thoughtful while posting. Glad to see some real Tech FOOTBALL fans appear here.
Also, unless I am the one affected by the full moon, Moronic Tech Fan’s post was a quip…a folly…a jest……a joke – and pretty damn funny I thought. Scary that there are multiple posts on here defending Dent. 4 – 6 weeks puts him back for SC? Assume he would sit the opener if not 100%?
38 and counting – GATA (here’s hoping Grantham makes this legit again) –
GO DAWGS!
