Georgia posts want ad for AD

A few quick items to start the week (more later today):

  • The University of Georgia has placed a want ad for what might well be your dream job: running the Bulldogs’ athletics department.

UGA posted the ad for its vacant athletic-director position on the NCAA’s website. The ad says the position “requires someone who has considerable expertise in intercollegiate athletics management, a keen business sense and an appreciation for the important role athletics plays in a great public university.”

Eighteen “duties and responsibilities” of the job are listed, ranging from “coordinating the recruitment, selection and evaluation of all coaches” to “serv[ing] as the primary spokesperson of the Department.”

Interested? Click here for the ad, which includes info on how to apply.

  • Georgia’s annual Bulldog Club tour ends Monday night with the “Celebration of Georgia Athletics” at the Cobb Galleria Centre. Social begins at 5:30 p.m. and program at 7 p.m. Admission and parking are free.

Mark Richt will be there, as he has been at all stops on the  tour, and he’ll be joined by interim athletic director Frank Crumley, men’s basketball coach Mark Fox, swimming and diving coach Jack Bauerle and new women’s soccer coach Steve Holeman. Emcee of the Greater Atlanta Bulldog Club event will be Chuck Dowdle.

Previous stops on the tour, which began in late April, were in Columbus, Savannah, Augusta, Macon, Statesboro, Albany and Griffin.

  • And if you’re counting the days, football practice begins one week from today.

Techies need not apply, as the job requires actually seeing a real life pair of red panties.

Ok, seriously….. Do Techies and all the other HATERS out there really think that “red panties” jokes really hurt and demoralize us? As a HUGE Dawg fan and supporter, i cringe whenever i see anybody in the program get in trouble…. but when the police report came out on Evans and the red panty issue was made aware, I laughed my ass off just like the haters. If the man is going to go down, hell, let the man go down with a pair of red panties between his legs.

So all of you haters that want to throw that up there in hopes of getting a rise, need to realize we dawgs think its as funny as you do. So please, keep it up. Laughter is indeed the best medicine!!

Wilder skipped out on Florida’s camp because he was at FSU with his family for the first time and they decided to stay a little longer so he didn’t go. He has been to Florida numerous times with his family and they know what they are about. He is coming back to Athens to bring his family so they can check out the school. It could be good for the Dawgs but Florida is still his leader.

If you couldn’t get tickets to the game in Boulder through the UGA ticket office, CU begins selling single-game tickets on August 2nd; however, I found out from a friend in Denver that they will NOT be selling the Georgia game as a single game ticket – only through season tickets or in a 3-game pack which includes Hawai’i and Kansas State games. The 3-game packs start at $130 for least desirable seats, but you can pick different sections for each game. They sent an email out to their newsletter list offering a chance to buy the 3-game packs beginning today using the promotion code 3PACK on their website. Thought I would pass along the info so we can have a Sea of Red in Boulder!

Wilder didn’t make it to FLA friday or saturday although most FLA fans would swear he was a lock and was going to commit at FNL.

UM asked him more than once not to go to Dawg Night and he did anyway.

I still think he ends up at FLA, but I wouldn’t sleep on FSU. I still see 1) FLA 2) FSU 3) UGA despite his comments at Dawg Night. Hence, the comment about him being a lean to UGA, which brought the hypothetical statement from Rome about ‘that is the guy I’d be blocking for’. Apparently he is going back to UGA with his family to see if he has the same feeling as he did when visited the first time.

James Wilder also rescheduled a two day trip to GT as well after missing the trip because of Dawg night. He wanted to visit with his family for more than just a couple of hours.

In case you dawg fans haven’t noticed, there is a pretty clear pattern here. He’s taking his family to every visit.

IMO, UGA nor GT is pulling him out of the state of Florida. The only challenger to UF is FSU. UF is still his leader despite missing FNL. Like a previous poster said, he’s been to UF more times than any of you would like to know.

Anyways, what on god’s green earth would make any dawg fan think Crowell and Wilder would commit to UGA? Only an idiot of a recruit would do that. UGA may well get Crowell but not both Wilder and Crowell.

So who do you thing the Dawgs will pick up at RB in this years recruinting class?

I am not sure if Crowell or Wilder – either of them will wind up at UGA.

I think Crowell will go to Alabama – and Wilder at Florida.

Wow – has the luster of UGA football gone dim?

UGA is back to Donnan type of program – which was a good program – but just can’t get to over the hump to ELITE status.

Richt had UGA there – but got passed rather quickly by Meyer and Saban.

I read it here on this blog – but did not believe it until I checked the stats for myself:
Donnan’s last 4 year sec east record was 12-4
Richt’s last 4 year sec east record is 10-10.

What the heck has happened to UGA????

Heck – the LSU game is the perfect story line of UGA football. Proud program hangs in there to stay competitive – bows up and makes a game of it – takes the lead and has victory in it’s grasp – then totally looks clueless in securing the victory.

Yes the penalty hurt UGA – but so did the stupid penalty in kickoff coverage – then the weak defense can’t make a tackle. UGA was going to lose that game even if there had been NO penalty and NO kickoff penalty.

LSU and UGA – both programs that have maxed out under current coaching staffs.

Good thing Tennessee is bottoming out this year and Lane Kiffin is gone – heck – he owned UGA was going to embarrass you again this year.

Typical comments by GatorBob and the gator faithfull…Lets see, and i quote from another gator poster…”Wilder will be a gator this weekend after FNL”…typical arrogance from the gators, although i do think it will be difficult to grab him from gator country,,,What makes me laugh though is that is if he doesn’t sign with the gators, then they didn’t really have him as a main target…Thats the spin we will get…And by the way i hope the gators keep feeling the way about the dawgs in the way they do, give us little respect…and keep bashing us…the cycle will change, don’t know if it will this year or not but it will take a turn…Also, if we don’t sign Wilder or Crowell, we still have a great recruiting class it appears…You gators appear to me to be a little concerned…

whataboutBOB, Donnan was 8-4 every year and that was his max. Richt’s worst year and he still won 8 games. BIG difference. BTW, does it hurt Fla’s feelings that your lock told others at dawg night he was a UGA lean and that he was coming to Athens? Yes, he will still end up somewhere in FLA, either at FSU or FLA, depending on who can ’sway’ him.

Is your coach still lying to him about being a RB in college? Just wondering. As for Crowell, let’s just say I like UGA’s chances.

MonticelloDawg

Gator Bob, what happened to UGA is quite simple. We lost BVG, and the defense gradually eroded. Richt stayed loyal to a friend until it was obvious a change was needed. It appears we have righted the ship with the new coaches. Time will tell. If Grantham is as good as we think, and as Nick Saban thought, look for the Dogs to be back to title contenders.

A want ad? I suppose the AD position is not THAT elite if a want ad is issued. Want ads are provided to allow ANYONE to apply. Elite level positions are usually filled with either a search firm or a search committee coordinating multiple search firms. @monticello dawg: right on.

@gator bob: re: crowell and wilder. i think wilder is ultimately a gator, but he had originally said he was going to commit by the end of july. recently, he’s said he going to open things up, take several official visits and see what is out there. the longer this goes on, the worse it is for the gators, if for no other reason than because UF is going to have to work a lot harder to keep wilder in the fold. UGA has good foundations at plant, and though i think you’ll eventually get wilder i’m glad we’re making you work for him. imo wilder makes a lot more sense as an RB in our system than he does in yours (and we have a better track record of developing RB’s than the gators–about the only thing we’ve done better than UF the last few years), but of course it doesn’t matter what i think about where wilder fits in…

crowell was reportedly an alabama lean, but we’ve mades strides and it’s pretty much a dead heat now. generally i like our chances and the longer it goes, i think the more it favors us; crowell knows what alabama is about but still has a lot to learn about UGA (namely whether we’re going to compete for championships and if we can hang with the big boys). if we have a good season this fall, then i think crowell comes to athens. another 8-5 year might change that, but i don’t think that’s gonna be an issue.

see you guys in jax, and i’m looking forward to an actual game this year!

How can you have a Celebration of Georgia Athletics that includes Mark Richt? Mark Richt is the MOST overated coach in America. He does not know enough to adjust during games. He is not capable of judging talent. His players reflect his laid back attitude. No emotion, no fire. He has not established discipline. Under CMR , UGA is a discrace. We make it a habit to lose big to rivals. We also get embarrased by teams far inferior to us. CMR is said to be a good man. That is to his credit. UGA needs a good football coach! Look at the Fla and Ala hires. Proven head coaches. You just will not understand that UGA is the equal of any program as far as fan base, recruiting base, facilities, but we are inadequate in the coach/leadership area. But with most you gatas and hatas you couldn’t get any if you wanted to other than what you would have to blow up with a pump. But with so much hot air coming out of your mouths that shouldn’t be a problem. Go Dawgs , You Dawg Hatas are gonna be crying when the year is done.

I understand Florida is running a special on hope this month. They might even let you retroactively claim to be a fan since the 60s. (although that would be a very small club).

Just be sure the candidate doesn’t have a PhD from the University of Sarasota (Argosy). If he does, just refer him to the DeKalb School System.

“Can’t take the necessary classes to get engineering degree and also attend all the football stuff…”

I would agree that most Georgia Tech football players are oriented to the Management degree. Some want to be engineers, doctors, etc., though. Same as at Auburn and Clemson, to name a couple of schools that have engineering programs. At Tech, Kevin Cone, who started 3 games at WR, is a Mechanical Engineering Major. Center Sean Bedford, All-ACC last year, is an Aerospace Engineering major. Chandler Anderson, punter, is a Biology major. The kicker, Scott Blair is a Computer and Electrical Engineering major. 5 junior starters from last year have not been updated on the web site yet.

FSU’s QB Christian Ponder, a Heisman candidate, is a Senior in eligibility who is working on his 2nd Master’s degree. He got his BS in 2-1/2 years and his MBA last year. I ‘ll bet he’ll do pretty well on the Wonderlic test at the NFL combine.

Georgia football players don’t all major in Housing. Only 7 upperclassmen lettermen actually, according to info on the Georgia web site. Clint Boling, ALL-SEC OT is a Management Information Systems major. Fred Munzenmaier is a Finance major. Chris Durham is a Middle School Education major. He did his practice teaching stint in Oconee county in the Spring.
