A few quick items to start the week (more later today):
UGA posted the ad for its vacant athletic-director position on the NCAA’s website. The ad says the position “requires someone who has considerable expertise in intercollegiate athletics management, a keen business sense and an appreciation for the important role athletics plays in a great public university.”
Eighteen “duties and responsibilities” of the job are listed, ranging from “coordinating the recruitment, selection and evaluation of all coaches” to “serv[ing] as the primary spokesperson of the Department.”
Interested? Click here for the ad, which includes info on how to apply.
Mark Richt will be there, as he has been at all stops on the tour, and he’ll be joined by interim athletic director Frank Crumley, men’s basketball coach Mark Fox, swimming and diving coach Jack Bauerle and new women’s soccer coach Steve Holeman. Emcee of the Greater Atlanta Bulldog Club event will be Chuck Dowdle.
Previous stops on the tour, which began in late April, were in Columbus, Savannah, Augusta, Macon, Statesboro, Albany and Griffin.

@monticello dawg: right on.
@gator bob: re: crowell and wilder. i think wilder is ultimately a gator, but he had originally said he was going to commit by the end of july. recently, he’s said he going to open things up, take several official visits and see what is out there. the longer this goes on, the worse it is for the gators, if for no other reason than because UF is going to have to work a lot harder to keep wilder in the fold. UGA has good foundations at plant, and though i think you’ll eventually get wilder i’m glad we’re making you work for him. imo wilder makes a lot more sense as an RB in our system than he does in yours (and we have a better track record of developing RB’s than the gators–about the only thing we’ve done better than UF the last few years), but of course it doesn’t matter what i think about where wilder fits in…
crowell was reportedly an alabama lean, but we’ve mades strides and it’s pretty much a dead heat now. generally i like our chances and the longer it goes, i think the more it favors us; crowell knows what alabama is about but still has a lot to learn about UGA (namely whether we’re going to compete for championships and if we can hang with the big boys). if we have a good season this fall, then i think crowell comes to athens. another 8-5 year might change that, but i don’t think that’s gonna be an issue.
see you guys in jax, and i’m looking forward to an actual game this year!

How can you have a Celebration of Georgia Athletics that includes Mark Richt? Mark Richt is the MOST overated coach in America. He does not know enough to adjust during games. He is not capable of judging talent. His players reflect his laid back attitude. No emotion, no fire. He has not established discipline. Under CMR , UGA is a discrace. We make it a habit to lose big to rivals. We also get embarrased by teams far inferior to us. CMR is said to be a good man. That is to his credit. UGA needs a good football coach! We are far from having a good coach. UGA alumni and fans deserve much more.

mike, instead of childish name calling, check it out. Look at losses to TENN, Vandy. OK State. Look at the big margins that we have lost to other schools. Look at Tenn running the same play over and over that we never stopped. There is Zero coaching ability at the head coach position at UGA. If you like 8,9 wins with no chance, keep CMR. Give me a real head coach like Saban or Meyer, ETC.

I’m sure Damon’s wife thought the red panties were funny too. The red panties are something we will have to live with for a very long time (all season this year for sure). I hate it for him and not for the same reasons I would hate it if it was me. Shame on him and his terrible judgement. I want someone that matches the style and demeanor of CMR as our AD. Steiner, you may get your 10 wins this year. I want championships! No, UGA doesn’t need me to coach. UGA just needs a coach who knows what it takes to get to the next level. Look at the Fla and Ala hires. Proven head coaches. You just will not understand that UGA is the equal of any program as far as fan base, recruiting base, facilities, but we are inadequate in the coach/leadership area. So, keep your 10 wins with no hope of a NC if that makes you happy. I am sure it makes the SEC powers happy.

Why would Crowell and Wilder want to consider UGA?
Well, Frank Sinkwich (Heisman Trophy winner, Herschel Walker (Heisman
Trophy winner, Terrell Davis (MVP, Super Bowl), Garrison Hearst, Tim
Worley (Beat the Gators), Musa Smith, Willie McClendon, Knowshown
Moreno, Robert Edwards, Lars Tate, Kevin McLee.
I would want to be remembered in the state of Georgia along with these

You obviously didn’t take your time reading my post. I wrote, that two high calibur recruits at the same position rarely commit to the same school in the same year. Why share the spotlight and competition than go somewhere else where there services will be wanted 100%? That’s what I said.
I didn’t say a recruit would be stupid to commit to UGA. UGA has a history of good RB’s.
Please read my comments carefully before calling me out.
It would be stupid for them BOTH to commit. One would get overshadowed, or underutilized essentially.

dog789 How long have you followed UGA football. In the years CMR has been at UGA with a few breaks we could have played for NC two times and have finished 2 and 3 on both occations. Saban and Meyer are both overrated. Both coaches walked into a set up situation with the best talent already recruited in place and great asst coaches. Richt is a good coach and frankly I hope he stays till he wants to go. You idiots need to find a woman that doesn’t wear any panties. But with most you gatas and hatas you couldn’t get any if you wanted to other than what you would have to blow up with a pump. “Can’t take the necessary classes to get engineering degree and also attend all the football stuff…”
I would agree that most Georgia Tech football players are oriented to the Management degree. Some want to be engineers, doctors, etc., though. Same as at Auburn and Clemson, to name a couple of schools that have engineering programs. At Tech, Kevin Cone, who started 3 games at WR, is a Mechanical Engineering Major. Center Sean Bedford, All-ACC last year, is an Aerospace Engineering major. Chandler Anderson, punter, is a Biology major. The kicker, Scott Blair is a Computer and Electrical Engineering major. 5 junior starters from last year have not been updated on the web site yet.
FSU’s QB Christian Ponder, a Heisman candidate, is a Senior in eligibility who is working on his 2nd Master’s degree. He got his BS in 2-1/2 years and his MBA last year. I ‘ll bet he’ll do pretty well on the Wonderlic test at the NFL combine.

Georgia football players don’t all major in Housing. Only 7 upperclassmen lettermen actually, according to info on the Georgia web site. Clint Boling, ALL-SEC OT is a Management Information Systems major. Fred Munzenmaier is a Finance major. Chris Durham is a Middle School Education major. He did his practice teaching stint in Oconee county in the Spring.
