UGA moves back start of practice; will new schedule include any 2-a-days?

Just a quick note to start the day, and I’ll have more later this morning:

  • Georgia is in the process of changing its preseason practice schedule. The first day of practice has been moved to Monday, Aug. 2. On the original, tentative schedule, practice was to have started July 31.

Georgia associate athletics director Claude Felton said in an e-mail this morning that the schedule is changing because “after reviewing the tentative preseason practice schedule, it was concluded that the formula determining our permissible practice opportunities was not properly applied.”

The NCAA allows 29 practices before the first game but also has various restrictions on how they can be scheduled.

So . . . will there be any two-a-day practices on Georgia’s new schedule?

The original schedule had none, and offensive coordinator Mike Bobo talked in a meeting with reporters last week about the elimination of two-a-days — the stuff of legend among generations of football players — from the schedule.  That story is here.

With a new schedule in the works, Felton said today: “No final determination yet on whether any two-a-days will be included.”

Georgia expects to have its revised schedule finalized by Friday or Monday.

Check back here late this morning for the SEC coaches’ preseason All-SEC team. Which Dogs other than A.J. Green do you expect to see on it? UPDATE: Four UGA players made coaches’ preseason All-SEC first team, and two more were chosen for the second team. Click here for story.

Only 47 days until:

2. 25K “fans” spread out through Bobby Dudd “stadium”
3. Another 25K “fans” skip the game at Bobby Dudd “stadium” so they can go to a sports bar to simply HATE on their superior rival

With all of these early games in the heat, I think we would need two a days UNLESS our one practice is for 3 hours and starts at noon like our first three games.

Just sayin’

Besides AJ, I think Boling, Houston, 2 Kickers and Boykin on the first team with possibly Rambo, Ealey and Tyson making the 2nd/3rd team

Trinton Sturdivant, If he comes back strong. The O line will really dominate play. UGA can then pound with the running game, control time of posession, and keep the D rested.
I know that todays game is about passing, but many great teams have won with the smash mouth formula. AKA the way we beat GT last year.

I hear Murray and Charles plan on opening a 7-Eleven in Athens
this fall…Operating hours: 60 minutes each Saturday.

If you look up the term “one-two punch” in the dictionary, you’ll see
a picture of Thing One and Thing Two.

Ealey part Herschel; King part Walker (3)(4)

Advice for Murray: If you do decide to gamble in the passing game,
place your bet on the “Easy Eight”. You’ll come up big more often
than not!

I think UGA has a chance to be pretty good – but suggest to be caustiously optimistic. A lot of new faces due to losses off the defense – and with new coaches and new scheme – there will be games that just do not go well. growing pains!!!!

Let’s look at this:
UGA is 10 – 10 in SEC EAST games the last 4 years ….. HMMMMMMMMMMMMM.
New QB – RS Freshman with Bobo at OC ………HMMMMMMMMMMM
New 3-4 defense, staff and big losses across D-Line, LB and Safety…………..HMMMMMMMMMMM
Lost 5 games last year and fortunate to beat SC thanks to heriocs of departed Rennie Curran………………………….HMMMMMMMMM

This tells me we are NOT Florida, Alabama, Texas, OHIO STATE.
Donnan went 12-4 SEC EAST his last 4 years.
Tennessee has gone 14-6 SEC EAST the last 4 years & 3-1 vs UGA.

This tells me we are the Middle of the pack SEC EST team – comparing agianst common SEC EAST oponents. Can you say Jim Donnan????

I think UGA will win minimum 7 to 8 REGULAR SEASON games this year – with a chance at 9 if things go very well. Which means an outside chance for a 10 win season if UGA wins their bowl game.

UGA should beat: LA LAF, COL, VANDY, ID STATE – that’s 4 wins.

South Carolina, Arkansas, Auburn and GT will be tough games for both teams to win- big time battles shaping up.

SC – UGA new QB, first time on road, early in the season – at Columbia – SC defense expected to be very good – SC returning QB – last time Bobo played it close to the vest against SC due to a new QB – UGA basically gave the game away. HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM.
Favor SC.

Arkansas – another hard game to win for both teams – will be a battle. Ark. offense will be better than UGA’s – if they can shut down UGA’s running game – ARK will greatly improve their chances to win the game. New 3/4 defense under attack – Ryan Mallet at QB and Petrino calling the offense or Murray at QB and Bobo….HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM
50/50 – Pigs may take this one.

Mississippi State is trap game at StarkVegas – UGA needs to be careful. Who gets excited to play State in StarkVegas. Come out flat in this game – could be in trouble….see LSU last year vs STATE ……………………………………………………HMMMMMMMMMM
Favor UGA

Tennessee – Vols have had UGA’s number the last few years. in fact – over the last 4 years – Vols are 3-1 over UGA and compiled 14-6 SEC East record going 4-1 in 06, 4-1 in 07, 2-3 in 08 and 4-1 in the year of Kiffin. TN will not be as bad as a lot of people are Hyping – UGA will not be as good as a lot of people are hyping …….HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM
Favor UGA

Kentucky – team has split last 4 games ………………….HMMMMMMMMMMM
What does this say about Rich Brooks …… more important – what does this say about UGA’s program and Mark Richt …………………HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM
Brooks has retired.
Favor UGA

Florida – better HC, better staff, better players, better program, higher expectations – totally in a higher league than UGA . Florida has sight sights on championships – talking NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS – and has executed- UGA is a mediocre 500 team against SEC EAST competition over the last 4 years …….HMMMMMMMMMMM.
Florida – talking blow out city vs UGA last two years – total beat downs……HMMMMMMMMM
Favor Gators

Auburn – has momentum, good offense – and if defense improves some – will be a good year for WET folks! (War Eagle Tiger). ……………………….HMMMMMMMMMMMMMM
Favor Auburn

GT – rivalry game – GT marching to win the game last year – dropped a pass – returning QB – defense also converting to 3-4 – HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM

Me thinks I am dead on – WITHIN the SEC EAST – UGA has been a mediocre over the last 4 years. The record does not lie. Tennessee and Florida – against common opponents – have clearly been the better programs.

Richt made a GREAT move to change up his Defensive Staff and get more involved with QB meetings and such. Got to go into this season open minded – looking for improvement.

I don’t know if you can say our linebackers are stronger, but our safeties have to be better we were awful in pass defense last year, there will be growing pains with the defensive squad this year but overall I believe we will be much improved on that side of the ball. I see no reason that we shouldnt be 10-2 at the end of the year and at worst 9-3 IMHO

With less practice time, the dawgs will be more rested and will not have as many injuries as usual—it will pay off late in the year, when other teams are banged up.

July 21st, 2010
8:44 am

I just want to see some intensity this year….We’ve seen it in individuals and in spurts as a team. I would be lying if I said I didn’t care what the record was at the end of the year…but whatever it is I would be much happier to see the Dawgs play hard and SMART….and stop giving away the ball and yards w penalties and coming out unprepared to play hard from the start( Ala two years ago). The Arkansas and Tech game from last year were scrappy wins…..MORE OF THAT PLEASE! GO DAWGS!!

I will miss only three UGA men from 09

July 21st, 2010
10:39 am

Weston, Owens and Atkins ………..will be missed. Thank you for playing for UGA. Good luck in the NFL.
Any other names from last year that we will miss? I don’t think so gang. Sorry ………they had their shot.

The new names on D will become stars. There are too many to name right now. We are loaded at safety and in the past, our safety starters thought that they could just cruise and so, cruise through the season they did. Bye bye to them and hello Rambo and Hamilton and Cummings and Ogletree and two more that right now, I am overlooking …………just at safety!! Compare to 09.

We were overall very green in 09 and really had no leadership. This year our YOUNG QB is already considered a leader and when he delivers ……….it will be HIS TEAM, which is so crucial to building a cohesive, hard fighting season long effort. If he stays within his abilities and does not try to be Harry Hero, we can win about 9 or 10 plus a very nice NY’s Day bowl.

The D will be full of new names and leadership will emerge. Rambo is already loved by the fans and the alumni. He and Huston can really have some fun and about 4 names will emerge on D that will be awesome. Our L backers will emerge and names will too.

Folks …………NOW the coaching can coach up to the talent. I love the new coaches and I can tell that they have a plan. They want to attack. We will see come SC game and that ought to be telling because Carolina has a very, very decent college QB and if he gets all the time to throw it, it could be another wild one. That will be fun to watch with S Spurrier vs TG and Co.

Gonna be fun.

Go Dogs.

GT's drop in 09 vs UGA

July 21st, 2010
10:54 am

We need to get two things straight right now:

1.) GT did not catch the 4th down pass late in the UGA game and that cost GT a first down. DId it cost them the game??? Maybe/possibly/maybe not, possibly not or maybe GT fumbles on the next plays. Who knows???
2.) UGA did not catch ( Wooten?) the wide open slant route pass at the GT 30 from JC and that cost UGA a TD. Morgan Burnette was half the field away anyway. That specific ball hit our man in his hands, full stride, earlier in the game and that, given the outcome, likely could have put them on ice ……….just earlier. In other words, GT would have gone airborne earlier and abandoned their running game. AAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHA

Either way…………drops happen and fumbles happen, like with UGA’s Jasper Sanks AFTER he crossed the GT goal line and a fumble was called. Later the officials ruled that it was a bad call. Game over, GT won.

Go Dogs. Let us make it 9 in 10 and about 14 in like 17.

Take away 1990 and 2009 and tech since about 1958 or 59 has not had anything to write home about and we simply do not count that ACC title around the south. We all know that ACC is THIRD in TV $ and the ESPN contrat validates that the ACC is a third tier league. Pop Warner it is and when rumors has GT in the new SEC ………… all of my pal GT grads were soiling their pants at the mear thought of escaping from the laughable ACC.

Look at Tech’s major bowl record in the last 45 + years ………2 Urange and several Gator Bowl trips and one Citrus and alot of the Boise Blue Carpet and the Micron Bowl and the Seattle Salmon Bowl and Peach Bowls. Look it up.
