Georgia placed six players on the coaches’ preseason All-SEC teams named Tuesday, including four players on the first team.
Wide receiver A.J. Green, offensive lineman Clint Boling, punter Drew Butler and placekicker Blair Walsh gave Georgia more representatives on the first team than any other school except defending national champion Alabama, which had six.
Two other Georgia players, offensive lineman Cordy Glenn and kick returner Brandon Boykin, made the second team.
No Georgia player was named to the first- or second-team defense. Outside linebacker Justin Houston was a notable omission after leading the SEC in tackles-for-loss per game and ranking second in the league in sacks per game last season.
Florida had the most total selections with 10 -– three on the first team and seven on the second -– followed by Alabama with nine and Auburn and Georgia with six apiece.

As I understand it, the leg was fine, but in his own words Murray completely overdid it coming into camp (as opposed to how he said he handled it this year) ,developed tendenitus, limited practise, got way behind the first part of the season. “could” he have played if he had to? sure. Thus standing o the sidelines in Unis. I realize that Urban would have had him sitting home to teach him a lesson for having a human body or strapped to a log truck for not being 100%, but hey, we’re softies.
And you bet the fans would have been raisin’ for surrendering the season, because that’s exactly what would have happened. Not to mention what mama in the world is going to send their kid to play for a man who says, “oh By the way, at some point in your son’s career, I am not going to care about his hard work all year, and give it all away on purpose. I might need to get another guy on the other side of the line ready for the following year, who may or may not even be the starter then.”

Beast I think you are grossly underestimating men who makes millions of dollars, and want to keep it that way. I can assure you that “when it was obvious that is WAS the right time” never came but it wasnt from a lack of exhausive day after days 16 hour looking at it. Had there even been a time in which switching QB in the middle of the season had been the right move, they would have done it in a heartbeat and him being a senior had nothing to do with it. Why would they have favored just one particular senior if it meant that a half dozen other senior weren’t getting thier best shot to win? They are all team players. Cox didn’t do anything special.
That loyalty stuff is pure BS. Those coaches wanted to win games, and they thought Cox was still the best way to do that.

Holy cow, who left Washaun Ealey off this list? Didn’t Ealey just annihilate both Ingram & Richardson’s fresman year lousy 5.1 yards per carry average, at Ealey’s 5.7? Isn’t Georgia raNKED #5 in nation in rushing over last 5 games? Ealey’s not going to like this, somebody’s going to pay for overlooking him. Likely, he’ll punish each SEC Coach who didn’t think he was “all-SEC” material. Yeah, we’ll see.

How stupid, how can you leave out Randall Cobb and Trent Richardson and Washan Ealey are the best two backs in the SEC. The quarterback from Arkansas, Mallett is the QB in the conference. The Florida kid Demps is the most dangerous in the open field, just my opinion.

Until July 31, stay out of downtown Athens. Another weak response. I guess on Sunday August 1, we can count on a big Party ?
We obviously deserve it with us # 4 in The SEC over the last 4 years and this season our 1 shot in the next 2.
Party Hearty downtown Athens Sunday August 1 Bulldogs, for you have absolutely earned it, haven’t you ?
And, if The SEC is not so tough, why is UGA 10-10 these last 4 years in our own division of this conference at 3rd best in The SEC East ?
Hell, there only was Florida any of the last 4 years in The SEC East. How in the hell did we go 10-10 ?
Waiting for reply.

Zach Mettenberger would have prevented Coach Richt going into his 3rd season now this year since DJ Shockley graduated after the 2005 season without any QB prepared.
Instead, he sat on the sidelines and instead a FAVORITE of Coach Richt was our ONLY Quarterback all of 2009. Zach Mettenberger would have made Joe Cox look like crap with his chronic shoulder and his therefore having to miss at least 1 practice a week. In addition, he had the Flu. Private jet to Stillwater for Joe Cox.
But, no.
AltamahaDawg wants to discuss not getting rid of Joe Cox mid-way through the season.
The error was Game 1.
The season was OVER right then.

Now this is the Mettenbergeer that YOU proclaimed was a “complete waste of a scholarship” a few months prior to the time you NOW claim you think he should have started? THAT Mettenberger? The guy that you said “not only was he ineffective as a QB, he did not complete one single pass to anybody unless you count the other side” after the G-day game last year? That’s the guy right? Just making sure.
Not to mention that just PRIOR to GAME ONE, YOU SAID that Gray and Murray will be very helpful backup to Joe Cox this year and provide a great option next year.
So lets get this straight: YOU SAID Mettenberger stunk and we wasted a ride on him. YOU SAID that Murray was the proper choice for the next starter. ALL OF THIS YOU SAID going into last year…….and NOW, you LIE and say that you were really thinking something completely 100% different?

It is absolutely ridilous (childlike in fact) to suggest that any player is picked because of favoritism, and not a long drawn out, oft reviewed and adjusted in need be, study of who gives the entire team the best chance to win. Or that the coaches really thought they should have, BUT decided not to make a change, compromising the team’s success on purpose because somebody was a “team player” and or he had been there a year or two longer than all the other team players who are just as committed and deserving.

Preseason recognition of “potential” is nice. But let’s face it, that and $3 will get you a cup of coffee. “Potential” is just another way of saying “you haven’t done anything yet.”

As a UGA man, I can deal with all kinds of stats. Let us agree that today and yesterday and even by August 31, UGA is not 64th but that they are # 100. Ok? It will be fine with me. I can deal with that. By the way when I was in high school gasoline could be bought for 29 cents per gallon. Does that matter today? Nope.
The pre season polls do not matter. The late season polls and the final polls matter. Pre season polls and being joyful and gleeful is as dumb as saying that in 1938 so and so was the NC. It does not matter …………. come late 2010. Um, ah, the writers of all of these polls make a living getting morons to buy their various publications in July; so they a have to come up with something that will hook you into buying that stuff. Geeeeeeeeeeez.
Go Dogs and come late December ( when it matters) , UGA fans will be excited about another NY’s day bowl invitation and possibly …………… bigger things.
Go Dogs.

Punters and Kickers don’t win big games in college, it is the skill players and UGA has one in A.J. Green. Very concerned about the upcoming year considering we have 1 QB who is a red-shirt, downless freshman and very few if any defensive standouts.

If the Dawgs could have Techs Schedule I would be much happier. SC and Ark are making me nervous. Hate to start off the season looking bad. Hope Murray and the D are prepared and ready to go. No telling how this season will go. Too many unanswered questions. I know we are on the right track, just need time to learn how to execute on gameday.

Tech’s schedule would kill Georgia. VT, Miami, Clemson, UNC all would smoke a thUGA team rebuilding on BOTH sides of the ball. Can’t wait for Athens….
If you need me, I’ll be making arrangements for travel to Charlotte to win another title. Good luck talking about how great your conference is while you watch your title game on TV, though.
