Georgia placed six players on the coaches’ preseason All-SEC teams named Tuesday, including four players on the first team.
Wide receiver A.J. Green, offensive lineman Clint Boling, punter Drew Butler and placekicker Blair Walsh gave Georgia more representatives on the first team than any other school except defending national champion Alabama, which had six.
Two other Georgia players, offensive lineman Cordy Glenn and kick returner Brandon Boykin, made the second team.
No Georgia player was named to the first- or second-team defense. Outside linebacker Justin Houston was a notable omission after leading the SEC in tackles-for-loss per game and ranking second in the league in sacks per game last season.
Florida had the most total selections with 10 -– three on the first team and seven on the second -– followed by Alabama with nine and Auburn and Georgia with six apiece.

SSlgator…My guess at season’s end when the All Sec/All American teams are announced UGA will have as many as your mighty Gators if you really are a Gator. My point was that with the total lack of regard for our chances to beat FL this year (according to your fanbase) the disparity in first teamers should be more glaring. Last year I believe you guys had more pre-season first team All SEC players than we did. I’m just sayin’ since Tebow, Spikes, Haden, Wright, Dunlap, Hernandez and $100,000 man Pouncy have left the talent levels have seemed to have leveled out. That’s all..

You have to put little thought to what others say. UGA has as many resources and a wealth of state talent to pull from… we just need to not listen to the hype or dout and play football, good old hard nose UGA football!

It’s hard for defensive players to get recognition when they were playing in that “bend, but don’t break defense” In reality, all that is important is TEAM results, which I have a feeling, will be much better.

Meh. Honestly, I don’t particularly care if people think Courtney is hot or not. The point is that some posters seem to think that it’s embarrassing to hold some girl’s panties. Their reaction reminds me of an old episode of the Simpsons after Nelson kisses Lisa. One of the other bullies says to him “You kissed a girl? That’s so gay”.
Taking the DUI and the potential adultery out of it, that’s the only cool part of that whole fiasco.

How do you leave Randall Cobb off the team….are you kidding me? When you play Kentucky…you plan your “D” around stopping Cobb…and it would be the same if he played for any other team in the SEC. He is one of the best players in the SEC….if not the best.

B-ham Dawg….but I must say….to this day I don’t understand why Richt played Cox last year after the 3rd game. He should have played the kid from Tampa to get him some experience…based on what Georgia has this year. Georgia would be much better this year if Richt had played the kid last year and he had incorporated actual playing time in the SEC. A freshman QB with absolutely no playing time in the SEC cannot be a good thing for your team. He will have to grow up fast…and SC has a very talented D to put up against him early. Georgia better run the ball often and well against SC if they hope to win. SC is a very talented team and might be the #1 challenge to the Gators this year. If you beat them, then you have a good opportunity vs. the Gators because your QB will get a lot of confidence in that game. If you lose to SC, it could turn into a disappointing year for Dawg fans….but probably not all the way back to the Shreveport Bowl…let’s hope.

I just looked at Bama’s schedule….tough early. Penn State, Arkansas, and Florida right away. Florida gets them after Penn State and Arkansas. I have more hope for the Gators because of that. I do hope Georgia goes undefeated before Jax….as the Gators…would make for a very exciting day. Is football season here yet? Got to be right around the corner….and cooler temps too I hope.

Again, none of this matters. UGA could have 22 players named to the All SEC preseason first team. Until UGA replaces Coach Mark Richt and gets a coach who knows X’s and O’s and can evaluate talent, UGA will be mediocre. FIRE MARK RICHT. We will lose to two or three teams that we shouldn’t lose to. We will not beat someone that we are not supposed to beat. PLEASE, I am in misery. There is no hope. CMR is inept. Get a real coach. UGA deserves more than this.

Cox was averaging 250 yrs, 62% completion and a 3-1 Td-int ratio after the third game last year. He also had just WON the first 2 SEC games. The exact same first 2 SEC games that everybody keeps telling us will determine the fate of the team and the confidence of the new QB this year. OBVIOUSLY any coach would have pulled him at that point to stick in a true freshman that was hurting, so that NEXT year might go better despite having no control of the furure, only the current team and season. Well maybe not any coach but certainly thats an easy call a fan from another school who can sit and pretend to know what somebody else shoulda have done. I am sure your fans would have been thrilled to have your coach toss in the towel a third into season sitting at 2-0 SEC to worry more about next year.

then why was he standing on the sideline with his uniform on all season??? If you can’t practice and play at Florida, you don’t dress for the game….period. Another reason/example of why Meyer is such a better coach than Richt.

Why is that a better policy? Meyers is punishing his players for beling injured? It somehow changes medical science and they just get better quicker? why is that a good policy? So ALL good coaches do that? every better coach than Richt does the same thing?

Let me rephase that as I didnt realize it had to be so literal. Its a stupid move to replace a Senior QB that has the team winning, putting up very respectable numbers, has the teams support, voted the undesputed leader, undefeated in the young SEC schedule………with a freshman for no other reason than speculation and maybes. (irrespective of his ability to practise just enough to warrant dressing out with the rest of the 100 player home team)

Richt didn’t play Aaron Murray because he was just coming off of a broken leg and at about game 8 he had a sore shoulder. Those are the reasons Murray didn’t play. Plus I am sure at some point you would think Joe Cox would stop turning the ball over.

Murray suffered his shoulder injury in fall practices leading up to the season…not game 8. At least, that is what I heard. The high school injury should have had nothing to do with anything as Murray had healed enough to play in his State Championship game the prior season…

8:17 pm
Keep in mind…had Richt played Murray last year a lot of people would have hammered Richt for surrendering the season, and had Mett not been kicked off the team, many on this blog would be whining that Richt had played the wrong freshman. I am not thrilled with how things have gone the last 2 seasons or with the state of the team’s arrest record, but there is a certain portion of dawgdom that will not be happy regardless of the move Richt makes. The pieces are there, Richt and Co. just has to figure out what piece goes where…

rx-dawg,
It’s easy to second guess after the fact. We’re all guilty of it from time to time. I think most people realize that by the time it WAS the right decision to replace Cox, it was probably too hard to do because he had been such a team player and was a senior. Also, most coaches think they can just “coach ‘em up” (as Spurrier would say) and help them to improve.
Anyway, looking forward to a very competitive season. It’s looks to be a really tight race in the East.
