Four UGA players named first-team preseason All-SEC by coaches

Georgia placed six players on the coaches’ preseason All-SEC teams named Tuesday, including four players on the first team.

Wide receiver A.J. Green, offensive lineman Clint Boling, punter Drew Butler and placekicker Blair Walsh gave Georgia more representatives on the first team than any other school except defending national champion Alabama, which had six.

Two other Georgia players, offensive lineman Cordy Glenn and kick returner Brandon Boykin, made the second team.

No Georgia player was named to the first- or second-team defense. Outside linebacker Justin Houston was a notable omission after leading the SEC in tackles-for-loss per game and ranking second in the league in sacks per game last season.

Florida had the most total selections with 10 -– three on the first team and seven on the second -– followed by Alabama with nine and Auburn and Georgia with six apiece.

Justin Houston a glaring omission…leading returning Sacks and TFL in the conference, and he only played 10 games last season.

Brandon Boykin is 2nd Team all SEC return specialist yet I’m betting we STILL see Branden Smith and Logan “Faircatch-because-we-don’t-think-anyone-else-can-faircatch” Gray in the return game this season.

Leaving off Washaun, Olson, and Houston? Hard to take that kind of vote seriously.

Excuse me? Leaving out J. Houston? You can’t be serious? Didin’t he lead the SEC in tackles for loss AND sacks? Confirms my hunch of a definate ANTI-UGA bias.

I’m a Ga fan, don’t get me wrong, but I’ll comment on an omission for another team that I see is glaring, Randall Cobb? I’m pretty sure he’s meant more to Kentucky than either Darvin Adams or Alshon Jeffrey to their teams, as talented as they are.

KimZ – maybe the dumbest thing these eyes have ever seen on here. And that is saying a lot!

Anyone spend much time looking over Phil Steele’s 2010 preview yet? Seems VERY high on the Dawgs OL, RB’s, WR’s, DL, LB’s and ST’s. Believe he rated them #12 in the country or #7/#8 on talent, etc. One of his ‘teams to watch”. Not an unrealsitic homer here, but I am REALLY looking forward to this year!

Go Dawgs!

Allpurpose–where’s Georgia’s Branden Smith–he averaged over 12 yards a carry, lot better than Rainey.

Really, you could have put the whole Georgia offense except for QB on as 1st team: Olson/White, T. King, AJ, O-Line, Ealey, King, but that would make for a boring read.

Doesn’t matter, when the season ends, Georgia will be #1 on everybody’s list.

Sounds like Spurriers voting method has spread to other coaches. I can hardly believe this is going to be close to what we see at years end. UGA is stacked and should have a better showing in this poll.

I think the coaches will learn their error or their way come game time in not taking Houston as seriously as they should had.

[...] It’s finally that time of the year. SEC Media Days in Birmingham generally indicate that the coming season is just around the corner. Today, coaches/sports information directors from around the conference voted on the 2010 Preseason All-SEC First and Second Teams. As always, there were plenty of snubs to go around. You can view both teams here. [...]

Your correct – UF had 10 total TEAM players to lead the voting. You don’t win NC’s with just your starters. But then again, how would UGA know that – 1980 – so long ago. See you in Jax.

Now that we’re in the off-season, wouldn’t this be the perfect time to take an in-depth look at UGA and have a serious discussion about the problems at UGA and why the arrest rate of players is the highest in the country? it’s common knowledge that UGA is a party school, but have any football players every actually graduated with a real degree? Jan Kemp exposed the school and the coaches almost three decades ago, but there is no sign that anything has improved; if anything, the arrest rate shows that things are getting more outrageous every year while the clueless Mark Richt has absolutely no control over his players. And then there is the infamous “red panties” incident that will haunt UGA for decades.

UGA has a lot bigger problem than hiring a new AD.

UGA has become a major embarrassment to all Georgians, and we want some answers starting now.
