D.J. Shockley to Omaha, Kentavious Caldwell to Athens, SEC media to Hoover
6:00 am July 19, 2010, by Tim Tucker
A few quick notes to start the week:
- Former Georgia quarterback D.J. Shockley, recently released by the Falcons, will attend mini-camp with the Omaha Nighthawks of the United Football League next weekend, according to the National Football Post. The UFL is preparing for its second season, Omaha’s first in the league.
- The momentum Mark Fox is building within the Georgia basketball program was evidenced by the enthusiastic buzz that circulated around Bulldog Nation Saturday night and Sunday regarding the commitment to UGA by highly touted prospect Kentavious Caldwell. A shooting guard from Greenville High, Caldwell is ranked the nation’s No. 11 overall prospect and this state’s No. 1 prospect by ESPN.com. Check out the story from the AJC’s Michael Carvell here.
- You should know by mid-week the kickoff time for Georgia’s football season opener vs. Louisiana-Lafayette Sept. 4 in Sanford Stadium. The SEC plans to unveil the full TV schedule for the first three weeks of the season at the start of media days in Hoover, Ala., on Wednesday. In this new TV age for the SEC, where every game is on television, Georgia’s opener could wind up on Fox Sports South or CSS or ESPNU or SEC Network or pay-per-view. Those TV windows range from noon to night.
- Just to recap: Times/TV previously have been announced for four Georgia games: noon Sept. 11 at South Carolina on ESPN or ESPN2; noon Sept. 18 vs. Arkansas in Athens on ESPN or ESPN2; 4:30 p.m. (ET) Oct. 2 at Colorado on Fox Sports Net, including Atlanta-based Fox Sports South; and 3:30 p.m. Oct. 30 vs. Florida in Jacksonville on CBS.
- Georgia’s appearance at media days is set for Thursday morning. Mark Richt will be accompanied to Hoover by three of his players: punter Drew Butler, fullback Shaun Chapas and wide receiver A.J. Green. Georgia is the only team taking a kicker to media days — and the only team not taking a defensive player.
- The SEC expects more than 800 media members in Hoover.
- Here’s an interesting article in the Columbia, S.C., newspaper, The State, yesterday on the decline in college football season-ticket sales around the South. As we’ve reported, sales haven’t declined at Georgia –- season tickets once again are sold out — but the minimum contribution required to qualify to buy first-time season tickets has dropped dramatically. If you missed it, here’s the link to my earlier story on that.
- In one night, Notre Dame surpassed Georgia in off-season arrests of football players (8-7).
- And who’d have believed just a few weeks ago that, by the start of media days, Georgia would have an interim athletics director and Vanderbilt would have an interim football coach?

Wow, from Atlanta to Omaha. That shows how badly DJ wants to play football. Good for him, I hope he excels and plays as long as his age and health allow. Just have a back-up plan for the long haul, young man.

What an idiot of a hack this writer is. Why not spell out the crimes of the Dawg players, while also listing the same for the Notre Dame players? I don’t condone underage drinking, but let’s face it…8 arrested for minor consumption is nothing compared to the crimes of the gators, Dawgs…etc. Very lame attempt.

A Florida man was arrested Friday and charged with having sex with his dog, a Great Dane named Christie Brinkley, the Miami Herald has reported.
Here we just say, GATA. I guess if you’re a Gator, it takes on a whole new meaning.

Ms. Porter you must be new to these type of things to suggest that the actual charges matter to anyone. The term “arrest” is clearly the end all. Welcome to the reality of internet sports blog.

This is because just this year alone, twice little girls have been attacked by now former UGA Bulldogs Top 10 recruits at their position. We also have multiple DUI arrests.
Notre Dame is NOT worse than UGA.
It is COMPLETELY THE OPPOSITE.
Good try Tim Tucker.

In one night, Notre Dame surpassed Georgia in off-season arrests of football players (8-7).
And by comparison, this is supposed to make UGA look good? What a joke. With 42 arrests in three years, no other school is even close to The Cesspool of the South.
And don’t forget the red panties either.

We also have multiple DUI arrests.
That doesn’t even include at least two officials in the athletic department of The Cesspool of the South.
Sickening, isn’t it. At any other school, the head coach would be sacked for failing to control his players.
