Arrested tailback will transfer from UGA

ATHENS — Georgia backup tailback Dontavius Jackson, arrested on DUI and other charges last weekend, has decided to transfer to another school, UGA said Wednesday night.

The latest development came three days after Jackson, a redshirt sophomore, was suspended for at least the first six games of the 2010 season by Georgia coach Mark Richt.

Jackson will leave UGA after summer semester. He played in four games last season, rushing for 38 yards on four carries. He was well behind Washaun Ealey, Caleb King and Carlton Thomas on the Bulldogs’ depth chart at tailback.

Jackson was arrested by UGA Police early Saturday and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, underage possession of alcohol, leaving the scene of an accident, following too closely, violation of the move-over law and  violation of learner’s permit.

He is the fourth player to leave the Georgia football program after arrests this year. Richt dismissed linebacker Montez Robinson, quarterback Zach Mettenberger and backup punter Trent Dittmer from the squad.

Thugs are people who beat other people up generally because they hope to rob them.

I’m not sure where the term fits for most people discussed on most sports topics.

He’d fit right in at S. Cal! Now that UGA stopped two a days the kids can make to to Happy Hour!

Glad CMR is not playing around this year.

At this point, nothing at UGA would surprise me.

Wake up Georgia fans: this has nothing to do with CMR and him getting tough with his players. The article says he is transferring, not that he was dismissed from the team. This was Dontavious Jackson’s decision. And your coach is still the sackless leader he always has been.

Funny….guys say…”Don’t let the door”…and “Thank you for not playing around, Mr. Richt”…concerning the fourth-string Jackson….and talk about a just a “couple of games” suspension for the first-string King….funny indeed….let’s get tough and glad your gone applies…only as long as you aren’t first string.

“As far as King goes he should be suspended for more than one game.”

Are you crazy? For a simply underage possession? Every underage college student in America has been guilty of that before. Not to mention King has never been in trouble with the law before.

All Vols great post we let the children drag us down to their level at times. I was born in TN and started school in Knoxville before moving to Atlanta 45 years ago. I’m a Bulldog fan and proud of it but always been a big UTfan except when they play UGA. I think both teams have good men running them, if Dooley can show some success this year and next he should be well on his way to removing the stain that was Lame..

Tampa gator, so is it your opinion that penalties should have connection with the actual offense? Or was that just the gratuitous “let me pipe in on the UGA blog with no appearant point to make” for the day?

Again, stop congratulating your sackless coach here. He did not dismiss him from the team- the kid is transferring on his own. CMR is still looking for a pair.

Do any of your bloggers have a life outside of blogging about UGA? Do you not have jobs? I am retired but I never had time before to sit and criticize 18 year old kids…Or their coaches who are making a darn good living, while you sit and criticize everyone and everything…except your self…and are doing nothing to better yourself!

Funny thing, of all the alcohol that I ever consumed while underage, I never felt guilty. I am of the school that you are only guilty if you get caught. I often felt like crap the next day or so but never guilty.

Ga State is THE GSU. Google GSU and verify. Ga southern has only had one positive in the entire history of the school, UGA’s Erk Russell. What a man. Too bad he got mixed up with GA Southern.

Mark Richt needs to go. UGA needs to go to 3 a days, not reduce to one a days. Are we really happy with eternal 1,2. or 3 loss seasons with no chance of championships?

Okay, unless you’re going to have the players all move into the Richt house, which I doubt the water girl would go for, I can’t see how you can blame their non-team activities on CMR. I hate it as much as anyone, it is embarassing no doubt. But if they know that their punishment will start out at a 4 a.m. appointment at the track to run steps for an hour and be suspended for part of the season, and then escalate to possible dismissal from the team if the behavior continues, and still go out and do boneheaded things, I really don’t know how that becomes CMR’s fault. The alternative is to have a 24 hour monitor on them, and lock them in their rooms at the appointed hour. I mean, it’s emabarassing but at some point the kids’ have to be responsible for their actions.

Ron, it is because of the enviorment they come from. They come from thug ghettos, single parent homes. If the great Rev Al Sharpton and Rev Jessee Jackson and the NAACP would come out about this the problem could be decreased. When your mama is on crack and your daddy is out selling drugs, robing convient stores or car jacking you get no supervision.

eagledawg, isn’t there a Div IAA blog you could go to? You are not worthy of being in a big time blog. Please leave and take all 37 fans who do not reside in Statesboro with you. Ga Southern is insignificant. No one cares. Few even know you have a football team. Also, Paul Johnson is exactly what GT deserves. He is a lying, dishonest, rude person who is full of himself and never misses an opportunity to say something bad about UGA. He was a big time cheater at Ga Southern.

I was listening to sports radio about how hard it is to recruit at Vanderbilt. In the real world the choice would work from Vanderbilt down to Valdosta State as far as where you are going to school. You wouldn’t have to beg real students into going to Vanderbilt, most of them are turned down at the get go. Then you give some kid an opportunity to come there that doesn’t deserve it and you have to beg him to just look at the school. Same thing happens at Georgia. Most of these trouble makers couldn’t pass in high school more less understand what a college education can do for them. We as a state or even a region need to get our priorities straight. Stupid ain’t good no matter what some one told ya.

Georgia is so proud to have a head coach like Mark Richt, who took Donnans players, turned them over to Brian VanGorder and parlayed a $700,000 salary into a $3,000,000 dollar salary and he owes it all to BVG, David Greene, and David Pollack and the rest of the players Donnan left him. It’s been 5 years since the Dawgs went to Atlanta to play in the SEC Championship game. The incoming class was in middle school when that last happened. Georgia fans can’t see the real problem with the arrests and it’s the fact that Mark Richt’s recruits don’t or won’t respond to his leadership on or off the field. The Dawg Nation is so happy that Mark Richt is not Ray Goff they are in denial. Fire him now, or fire him later, but fired he must be if Georgia ever wants to get past Florida and Alabama in the near future. Maybe Hershel’s grand children can straighten it out.

Amen and double Amen to what SickandTired said. CMR is not the Coach/Leader we deserve. Fire him now! Please do not waste a few more years then fire him. UGA fans you cannot be happy as a middle of the pack, mediocre team with a nice little coach. There are coaches out there that could make UGA champions now.

To win in the SEC all of the players must be focused and dedicated to the TEAM! DUI and breaking TEAM rules is focusing on self. No matter how good an individual athletic may be, focus on self, and not the team…the team will lose! If those who remain do not understand, sent them on their way, those who remain, and are dedicated to the team, will win.
