ATHENS — Georgia backup tailback Dontavius Jackson, arrested on DUI and other charges last weekend, has decided to transfer to another school, UGA said Wednesday night.
The latest development came three days after Jackson, a redshirt sophomore, was suspended for at least the first six games of the 2010 season by Georgia coach Mark Richt.
Jackson will leave UGA after summer semester. He played in four games last season, rushing for 38 yards on four carries. He was well behind Washaun Ealey, Caleb King and Carlton Thomas on the Bulldogs’ depth chart at tailback.
Jackson was arrested by UGA Police early Saturday and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, underage possession of alcohol, leaving the scene of an accident, following too closely, violation of the move-over law and violation of learner’s permit.
He is the fourth player to leave the Georgia football program after arrests this year. Richt dismissed linebacker Montez Robinson, quarterback Zach Mettenberger and backup punter Trent Dittmer from the squad.

Goodbye, kick them all off that get in trouble; hey kick out Adams too while your at it.
Then, would somebody please get a Coach Paul Johnson a polo that fits his turkey neck properly. The excess hang under his chin makes me nervous, like the nervous you feel while a person is being made fun of to their face.
If you’re name ends with an “vious” or “vius” or “tion”; you are going to get kicked off the team, so just don’t show up.

Wow! How many arrests has ga had….can’t count them. But your AD has to top all in college football. Seems the only thing to make so of you get through the day is to bring up UT and Rogers. People….you need to worry about Ga.

I have never been so embarrassed and sad with UGA as I am now. Where does it end. I know alot of schools have problems. But we have had far too many and again it is just embarrassing. Damon Evans just took it to a whole new level. The people that feel it necessary to bring up Rogers and Tennessee just don’t get it. We are in trouble big time. We need a change. I cringe each day I look at the AJC….afraid of what else has gone wrong.

tdog, UGA is no more a joke than many, many schools that have kids get in trouble, and yes there have been too many, but kids have been dismissed and punished, perhaps more is needed but that is not up to us to decide their fate, it is the responsibility of the university and the dawgs coaching staff to deal with it…I believe they have and at no time have i seen Coach Richt ignore or not punish a young man for his actions…There is alot that goes on behind the scenes that we don’t see, but i can asure he takes it seriously, you just don’t agree with his handling of it and thats your right, but i trust his judgement along with the other coaches on what is the appropriate punishment to hand down..We may think he should be much harder on them, and maybe he should but true dawg fans will trust his judgement…I can tell you this with absolute fact, as i was in school there many, many years ago and believe me some of the things that went down and unreported happened almost every weekend..not excusing it but trying to say that its not something that has happened under Coach Richt’s watch…Lets give him the benefit of the doubt and since the university puts alot of faith in him, perhaps we should also…I

Not to be cold-hearted, but this is excellent news. Jackson was suspended for at least 6 games in 2010 already. His season was shot. A wasted scholarship for the Dawgs in 2010, due to player stupidity.
The good news is that we have another scholarship to offer in 2011. Hopefully awarded to a solid athlete and student that will represent UGA the right way.
And yes, the guy in Bar Knoxville is declining to prosecute Da’Rick so he’ll skate on most of the charges. Dooley will probably slap him with a one or two game suspension. But, most likely, this is not the last time Mr. Rogers will have his picture taken, both profile and full-face. He doesn’t seem to be too bright.

Kid made a mistake and CMR dealt with it. He did what he felt he needed to do in his best interest and I have no problems with his choice. He was down on the depth chart and missing half of a season so why not transfer. Now UGA has freed up a scholly in the process so I think no one should complain as it probably serves all parties equally well in damage control.

I believe if additional info comes out regarding Mr. Rogers, then whether the guy at the Knoxville Bar wants to prosecute or not will probably be decided by the Mr. Dooley…Evidently it was felt that he needed an attorney, and yes he is innocent until proven otherwise..I don’t believe we have heard the end of his involvement for now, and with little infor regarding his involvement would make you think that they don’t want to rush to decision that could cost this young man a scholarship….I hope the off duty officer is doing much better as we don’t seem to be getting alot of info on his health…

That Coach Richt suspended one of our STARTERS for more than a game and who was it? It seems to be a double standard…. yea if you look on paper King was “just” drinking underage riding along….but when you read between the lines, King duped Jackson into driving HIS car. Seems to me like Jackson is the scapegoat here and King could have stopped the whole thing by not giving his keys to Jackson and tricking him into driving his car.
Richt is not afraid to make an example out of the bench warmers, but he protects his starters…. that is why we can’t correct this problem at UGA and why it is getting worse. It is a double standard. We are an education of higher learning …. not a football team that offers classes to the players.

gator forever, i believe you talking about apples and oranges here..regarding Damon Evans total lack of judgement has nothing to do with the university having faith in Coach Richt…I don’t see how you can compare the two…but even having faith in someone doesn’t mean they want fall from grace or let you down sometimes…i have and will always have faith in my children as my parents did with me but at times we are let down or do something that disappoints..My previous post said nothing about “blind faith” i just happen to think that Coach Richt as earned that at UGA and should be given the respect to make the judgement call on these kids as he has done on more than one occassion…Your remarks, being a gator fan obvisously was to take jabs at dawg program..well you succeeded and maybe we do deserve to hear some of that, but don’t throw stones when your program does not have a clean slate either…

I need to amend my earlier post… I just noticed that not only are the DAWGS the number 1 THUGA team this year…. They are 3rd on the all-time dynasty list and that is without the author recording a single incident in 2009 (which we all know is an error). What would they be if 2009 was included?

If CMR can’t handle the players, how can he handle the team?
Well, you see, that’s the problem isn’t it? If Richt can’t control his players off the field, he can’t control them on the field.
So get used to more penalties and dumb moves on the field and more arrests off the field. And not winning an SEC championship.
Eventually, when enough people connect all the dots, Richt will be sacked, but until then, get used to suffering.

Two things that Blow my mind:
1. How opposing fans think that waving red panties will in anyway bother mature fans. I’m sure there are a few crack pots that may get upset but for the most part no one really gives a flying fu*****
2. Why the inbred trailer trash continues to call these young men thugs. Those of you that call them that really really want to use another word but you are either not man enough or the filter is preventing you. I tend to believe it’s the lack of balls.
They are not thugs and if underage drinking makes you a thug then they are in great company in Athens because there are a boat load of thugs and most of them are white.

For some reason, Richt never seems to punish starting players like Odell Thurman, 2 games, Danell Ellerbe, 2 games, and now King, 1 game. He only pulls scholarships of players he doesn’t expect to compete, or their crimes are too big for him to cover up, like Mettenburger, Montez Robinson, and fall guy, Dontavius Jackson. Richt continues to shoot himself and the university in the foot with his double standards.

Good riddance. It’s no one’s fault but your own. The easiest thing in the world to do is NOT get arrested. You can’t take the punishment for your actions, you don’t deserve to suit up in the red and black. Take your “easy way out” mentality elsewhere. As for King, he was drinking….yes. But he didn’t get in a fight, and broke no other laws himself. He was simply a passenger. He deserves the suspension for wrong place, wrong time, but not more than a game or two. If he does it again, boot him, too. I’m ready for a completely clean program with none of these off-season problems. Way to go, Richt. Thanks for stepping up the penalties for poor behavior.
