Damon Evans offers apology, says ‘Go Dawgs’

ATHENS — This statement was just received from Damon Evans:

“I would like to once again offer my sincerest apology to the University of Georgia people — the president and administration, athletic staff and coaches, fans and supporters, and especially the student-athletes. It had been my hope since taking the job in 2004 that I would have a long career at UGA.

“But because of a serious mistake in judgment, that won’t be the case,  and I understand that I have a long road to rebuilding my reputation and career.

“I do want to thank all those who have supported me and the Athletic Association over the past six years and would encourage all those in our Association to remember that they are there for the student-athletes. Keep them first and foremost in everything you do. God bless and ‘Go Dawgs.’”

Damon, I’d actually believe your apology had you not had the half-hearted one in the face of the police report you knew would come out.

Your AD retires as a universal punchline, and all you can think of is beating Tech last year? I underestimated your obsession, Dawgs fans.

Very sad day for the red & black. I was hoping he would be able to get past this and Adams would keep him on. Guess Kinkade was right again, the panties did him in, I’ll just chalk it up to being a dumb ass redneck.

Didn’t think so, again showing how Damon’s priorities are really, REALLY screwed up.

Evans made a mistake. Let the man be. Get the new AD here and let August 1 get here fast. BTW, when Georgia Tech University actually beats UGA more than once in a decade, you can run your mouth. Until then, GFY, your program is a complete joke. And UGA fans LOVE PAUL HEWITT! Keep him!!

It is all very sad. However, it unfolded as it should. It is best to move along. AD at UGA is a job many talented people would love to have.

the pressure is on Adams to try and forego his ego and hire the most qulaified person for the job.

This is truly a tragic situation. One that is the full responsibility of Damon Evans. He obviously had a lapse in judgment; however who are we to judge the man? I thank God that all of my transgressions are not laid out in newspapers, on the news, on message boards, etc. for people to give their comments – whether for or against me.

The real tragedy here is not the affect on the Athletic Association. The UGA AA is a business – it will find another AD and move on. This situation will be a passing thought maybe even months from now; however, that will not be the case for Damon’s family.

When you’re making comments about the details of the police report, please remember that his wife did nothing wrong in this and did not ask for this; however, she has to relive it everytime she hears or sees something regarding the situation. Pointing things out and making jokes about them is cold hearted. It is distasteful for fans of other schools to use this opportunity as a “rivalry” joke. The thought of opposing teams bringing things to games next year as a “joke” may be funny to you all, but would only be another hurtful thing for Damon’s family to have to endure as I’m sure it will be ALL over the newspapers, news, etc. Just let the situation be – allow Damon and his family to move on. I’m sure there is a lot of healing that needs to occur.

Why not say a prayer, word of encouragement rather than throw stones??!

Can we just move on now? Damon has paid a steep but appropriate penalty for his immorality and poor judgment, and Dr. Adams- of whom I am no big fan- reacted quickly and came up with a relatively inexpensive resolution. The AA would have spent more than $237,500 on legal fees if Evans had fought the subjective morals clause in his contract.

With the 2nd most profitable athletic program in the country, we need an able experienced administrator to be hired as soon as possible. With all due respect, we need someone with a proven track record, not some admirable lieutenant from within.

And if you are people of faith, please pray for Mrs. Evans and her children. Their family and their lifestyle have been trashed by this man’s lack of self control. There is no indication that they deserved this fate. God be with them.

To the UGA fans who persist in touting the GA-GT score as some sort of badge of success. Why not compare yourselves to a similar program that you compete against for a meaningful championship?. The first number you should remember is 17-3. No – that is not a score . Florida has gone 17-3 in the game against the DAWG$ since 1990. The second number -if you want a score- is 47-7 when the DAWG$ felt the full impact of the gator chomp. I wont bother posting the other scores as i know you all are easily confused. So – I guess you can go on living off of a few key wins every few years. GT only has to beat the DAWG$ once every 10 years to put a decade worth of sand in your red panties.
