Playboy names two UGA players to preseason All-America team

(Update, noon Tuesday: Mark Richt and two UGA players, Akeem Dent and Kris Durham, appeared this morning at the “Pigskin Preview” event at the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame in Macon.  See what they had to say at twitter.com/ajcuga.)

Two Georgia players, wide receiver A.J. Green and punter Drew Butler, were named Monday to Playboy Magazine’s 2010 Preseason All-America football team.

This marks the first time since 1982 that Georgia placed two players on the Playboy preseason team, which the magazine has chosen annually since 1957.

In all, at least 18 other Georgia players have been on Playboy preseason All-America teams over the years: Knowshon Moreno (2008),  Quentin Moses (2006), Jon Stinchcomb (2002), Richard Seymour (2000), Matt Stinchcomb (1998), Eric Zeier (1994), Bernard Williams (1993), Terry Hoage (1983), Jimmy Payne (1982), Herschel Walker (1981-82), Rex Robinson (1979-80), Bill Krug (1977), Joel Parrish (1976), Royce Smith (1971), Jake Scott (1968), Bill Stanfill (1968), Lynn Hughes (1966) and Edgar Chandler (1966).

David Pollack was chosen for the 2003 Playboy All-American Team but turned it down, so technically he was a Playboy All-American as well. And Quentin Moses in 2006…maybe UGA should update their records.

the truth: I added Quentin Moses to the list above. And like you said, Pollack turned down a spot on the team.

well, we see how these playboy rankings go….they didn’t put stafford on their rankings.
how can they leave off the greatest quarterback to ever take a snap behind center for uga and the only #1 draft pick in the entire history of the program!

kool aide, it was pretty easy to leave Stafford off the list, as he wasn’t the top college QB in the country–probably not even one of the top three. He had more pro potential than the other guys, but it’s not based on draft potential.

I believe that only four of these former players have graduated from UGA to date. Which means that they were just hired football players, not legitimate student-athletes.

Shameful.

If that’s even close to the correct number, it is shameful. Every UGA recruit should be informed of UGA’s “use ‘em and lose ‘em” practice. Maybe they would have second thoughts about going to a school that cares so little for them.

Remarkable

I admire the ones who stood up for principle more than the ones that were chosen by a mag. that has no idea what an All-American football player even looks like. Lets wait utill some mag that actually covers sports has their list, to get all excited. After all we are talking sports here, right? Sports Illus., ESPN, the Sporting News, any one else.

for all you up tight, dumba$$ people out there…why do people have any desire to get an education??? other than the fact ignorance is one of the biggest issues with this world we live in, it’s to hopefully be able to use that education to make a living!!! now, if a kid has the God given ability to be able to play professional sports, then guess what…not only are they playing a sport that that love but they’re making a living!!! every one of those players who didn’t receive their diploma from UGA has had the ability to return to Athens to finish their degree. So, that has NO barring on the university. that falls strictly on the individual. ask Herschel when he finally decided to complete his degree? sometimes there’s just no cure for stupid…and there are A LOT of stupid people that prove it to everyone on this blog!

And how many went on to pro football and probably made more over the next few years than they would have it they had a degree? It it usually the top players at any school who take the pro money when offered. Guess they can laugh all the way to the bank.

29-6 Florida vs SEC the last 4 years
23-11 Alabama vs SEC the last 4 years
21-12 LSU vs SEC the last 4 years
20-12 Georgia vs SEC the last 4 years

1. Alabama. 2. Florida. 3. LSU. 4. Arkansas. 5. Georgia.

Oh, great. Now, Arkansas is ranked better than us in our 10th year of the Coach Richt Era.

Who’s next to pass us by ?

I presume, of course, that your EXCUSE is that The SEC Directors of Information don’t know a DAMN THING about college football in The SEC, right ?

1. Alabama. 2. Florida. 3. LSU. 4. Arkansas. 5. Georgia. Lovely already 4th in SEC last 4 yrs

That is what keeps me going, you know bob ? LAME EXCUSES.

We lost to Vandie ourselves at Sanford Stadium with Matthew Stafford when we redshirted Knowshon Moreno that 2006 year just 4 years ago now for some odd reason after we had lost to the vols, and just before 2 weeks later we lost to Florida, then the following week lost to Kentucky, and then to keep the string alive against SEC East Losses in a row, we began 2007 with losses to South Carolina which made then losing to EVERY SEC East team in a ROW bar none, and followed that up with loss to SEC East team # 6 in a row by losing to the vols again.

I don’t think I would bring that up Jen.

the athens correctional facility has generated a list of bulldawg football players who are most likely to wear their uniform of bulldawg orange. so far the list contains 85 names.

i just realized that is the whole dang ugay football rooster. is it any wonder ugay finishes in the hunt for the perennial recruiting nc each and every year.

so far this year the performance has been just so so as only 6 players have been arrested. i look for at least 6 more dawg players to distinguish themselves before the season rolls around.
