Check out the 40-yard dash times, bench press reps, etc., of UGA football players

Georgia today released the results of its spring testing of the football team in the broad jump, vertical jump, 40-yard dash, 225-pound bench press reps and “NFL Shuttle” — five traditional measures of agility, speed and strength.  (Descriptions of each test are at the end of this post.)

The team was broken down into three groups for testing: skill (WR, DB, TB); big skill (FB, QB, TE, LB, specialists); and linemen (OL, DL). All players were tested in all events unless an injury or illness precluded their participation.

Here, according to UGA, are the top-10 individual performances in each test for each group:

Event Descriptions from UGA:

Broad Jump: A test of explosive power. From a standing position, the player will jump horizontally as far as possible. Each player gets three attempts, with their best distance recorded.

Vertical Jump: A test of explosive power. From a standing position, the player will jump vertically as high as possible. Each player gets three attempts, with their best jump recorded.

40-yard dash: A measure of linear speed. The players will sprint 40 yards as fast as they can. They are timed from their initial movement through the finish line. Each player is timed by four different coaches. Each player gets two attempts, with their best time recorded.

225-pound rep test: A measure of upper body strength. Each player will bench press 225 lbs. as many times as possible without stopping. They must lock out their arms on each rep, and bouncing the bar off of their chest will cause that rep not to count. Each player gets one attempt at this event and their reps are recorded.

NFL Shuttle: A measure of agility and quickness. The player stands in the middle of a 10-yard space. He will sprint to his right 5 yards, touch the line with his hand and sprint back across his starting position for 10 yards, touch the line with his hand and then sprint back 5 yards through the starting position. This is a 20-yard shuttle. Each player gets three attempts, with their best time recorded.

UGAG: I didn’t know you have two mascots. I saw one of them on the 1st base line during the ladies softball team. Are you planning on using her for the football season? Just curious, as she isn’t any better looking than you ugly azz mascot. By the way, your football team plays the weakest schedule in the US, with the excpetion of two ranked teams, those being GT and UF, of which you will lose both. GO GATORS!!!

Where are all the reps for the Offensive Linemen, now that they are supposed to be able to finally block for the running the football this season in a big game against an opponent who has a run defense ?

Where are all the reps for the Offensive Linemen, now that they are supposed to be able to finally block for the pass so well that a short quarterback can not have his passes blocked at the line on 3rd down conversions ?

How is Caleb King proving anything here with just 15 reps for a 22-year old man recruited in this state as the # 1 Player Overall in the state of Georgia 2007 ?

2007, 2008, 2009, and now here is the 2010 season. 4 years in our weight program with the facilities provided for him to get strong, and he has 15 reps of 225 lbs, and has not turned in 1 good game against any quality run defense, ever.

You can see right here, with Caleb King your Starting Running Back the last 5 consecutive ball games, including the devastating loss to Kentucky at home why we can not run the football in the big games since we recruited this Caleb King, who by the way told Ken Malcome that to him, Caleb King, running the football here at UGA is no fun and nothing but a terrible grind.

Dogging it.

That is what Caleb King has done here in our weight room, on the field during the games, in practice, and in his attitude for 4 solid years.

Oh, excuse me. I am supposed to be Positive.

I look for great improvement from Caleb King since his coaching staff on Offense and in Strength and Conditioning obviously has done such a tremendous job for 4 years in a row now with our Starting Tailback at The University of Ground Attack.

No sense getting on his butt to step up and get the damn job done, not with a Freshman QB who is supposed to throw another 14 interceptions for us this season, and fumble the football 21 times again this year, just as we have done both for 4 years in a row and counting now. This year will be 5 years in a row.

Read a guy said I could not post on his blog that he would remove it. Yeah, keep it nothing but DISNEYdawgs.com. And, tell me Caleb King is going to be great this season running the football to take the pressure off Aaron Murray, who he said would throw 12 interceptions (no mention of fumbles under center or on exchange from under center) and he says that UGA will go 10-3 ain’t that great and positive he said today on his blog. He predicts losses to South Carolina in Game 2, Auburn and of course Florida. He surmises that that is Positive and a Great Year for UGA with 15 seniors now on Scholarship on the roster for this season and 4 more Juniors we lose after this season.

Ken Malcome, what did you think when Caleb King said that you ?

Anyone notice that David Hale doesn’t even know how to spell Ken Malcome ?

Puts 2 L in his last name.

Caleb King, why not just move on, if you don’t want to work.

15 reps for a 22-year old man recruited here as the # 1 Football Player in the entire State of Georgia. 4 years of Strength and Conditioning, and not only the entire OL looks pitiful at their reps of 225 lbs. but Caleb King, I call you out sir for 15. Caleb Dogging it King while you are coddled as the Best Football Player in the Entire State of Georgia.

BuLLdawg…you have to be a latent homsexual Tech fan …your posts are too funny. You try to come off as some great expert but only show your ass and immaturity….Here’s what I do know…you’ve never had a date, never played a competitive sport(maybe ping pong)spend the majority of your time in front of your computer because you have no social life because nobody can stand to be around you for more than two minutes because your so obnoxious. You sit down everytime you pee and are hung like a field mouse…..You try to pass yourself off as some big college football expert but everyone laughs at you behind your back (or in front of you) because you are so pathetic. Apparently Caleb King must have bitch slapped you at sometime in your life because you are so obsessed with him……Please go away little boy..nobody wants you around…go play with your GI Joe doll….Can You Dig It.

Wow, its funny how you people have to stoop so low to call someone a midget when in all acutality you are probably shorter than them.

I don’t care about all those bogus uga football stats…what really makes the Gators head and shoulders above the puppies are the players. Florida has way better players at every position at least 2 or 3 deep..you girls should realize that by now..uga is a second tier SEC program, period. You second rate girls can’t compete…..this year in Jax UF will again win by at least 30….

WITH ALL THIS TALENT NOT WINNING (20-12 LAST 4 YEARS, 4-4 LAST YEAR) IT IS EITHER COACHING OR THE PLAYERS ARE JASPER SANKS LIKE? RICHT HAS NOT WON THE SEC IN FIVE YEARS NOR HAS HE BEEN TO THE SEC TITLE GAME. THIS IS WELL BELOW GEORGIA STANDARDS! WITH A 69% WINNING PERCENTAGE AND GEORGIA HIGH SCHOOL PLAYERS OPTING TO PLAY FOR CHAMPIONSHIP PROGRAMS LIKE ALABAMA AND FLORIDA THAT LEAVES A QUESTION? IS IT TIME FOR RICHT TO GO?

Hmmm

Jeff Owens could bench press a house, and he went in the 6th or 7th round? Brandon Spikes ran a 5.0 40( which is SLOW for a linebacker) yet gets drafted in the 2nd round by the Patriots. The difference? Brandon, despite his physical limitations, is a smart football player who is in position to make plays because he does the work in the film room. He’s a football player, not an athlete masquerading as a football. Speed is a great commodity to have but if it is out of position, it’s worthless. To give an NFL example: Ted Bruschi was a football player with some athletic ability that was able to play within any scheme because he’s a smart player. DeAngelo Hall is a great athlete with killer speed, but he’s too lazy to put in the work to learn a defensive scheme. Therefore he gets beat by lesser talented guys because his tries to rely too much on his instincts instead of perfecting his fundamentals.

Agree that these 40 times must be off by at leas .10 to .15. The one thing I am happy to see is that there were 5 players as fast or faster than B. Smith. We all know that he is lightning fast with pads on and on the field (if he can just be taught to hold the football properly), so if there are 5 other guys on the team that are as fast or faster, I like the sound of that.

I was surprised that T. Strickland wasn’t among the leaders of the 225 bench press. Maybe he is more “max bench press strong” than he is endurance of reps strong if you know what I mean. I thought he was the strongest offensive lineman on the the team.

Harold, this question is for you. Does Alabama’s mythical national champioship this year erase the past 6 years of football or the Tide? Cause they are not a championship program if you look at the past 6 years.

these stats are crap. especially the 40 times and the 225 lb reps. if you have seen stats from the nfl combine, you would know they are crap. there might be 8 nfl players in this group. there are 3 sub 4.3 times. you might have one guy from the entire combine run a sub 4.3. you’re telling me uga has 3? no way. same thing with the 225 lb reps. i have seen o linemen not have as many reps as some of the skilled guys.

while i am fond of 40-times how about those bench reps. yeah we can all make arguments regarding accuracy, etc end of day we have a fairly fast line up. but lets face it, even if we’re off .15 or even .2..pads and game day change all of it and it becomes guts and strength baby.
