Athletic Board convenes on St. Simons today

Good morning from St. Simons Island, where the UGA Athletic Association board of directors will meet today and tomorrow.

The Athletic Association’s budget for fiscal year 2011, which runs from July 1, 2010, through June 30, 2011, will be presented for approval this morning. The association had an $84.8 million budget for fiscal 2010. The fiscal 2011 budget is expected to be roughly the same.

The board also will get a financial report on fiscal 2010 results and a report from athletics director Damon Evans on the 2009-10 sports year.

With three major construction projects currently underway -– the expansion of the Butts-Mehre building, the renovation of Stegeman Coliseum and the addition of a plaza in the Reed Alley area adjacent to Sanford Stadium –- no new projects of such scale are expected to be approved today. However, the board likely will approve a plan to install new chairback seats throughout the baseball stadium. Foley Field currently has a combination of chairback and bleacher-style seating.

A progress report is expected on the ongoing $39.5 million Butts-Mehre project, approved at the board’s spring 2009 meeting.

Check back here for updates from the meetings.

PLEASE!!!! Do something about Kudzu Hill!!! I have been to many ball parks over the last 3 years or so to see the Dawgs play (Auburn, Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Clemson, Georgia Tech, Kentucky, (and South Carolina)…other than Carolina (which is a mini-Omaha, these other places have undergone MAJOR renovations and look GREAT!!! The surroundings make Foley one of (if not the prettiest) places to watch a baseball game!!! Do some sprucing up and it might just be the BEST place to watch a game in all of college baseball!!!!

Go Dawgs!!!!

Come on Richt and Bobo. Sturdivant, Glenn, Burnette, Bean Anderson and Josh Davis. I know the athletic board won’t approve but do it anyway. By the way, nice evaluation on James Carpenter and Chance Warmack. Both georgia boys who form the best left side of any offensive line in America. thanks a lot. We appreciate it. You should be on the Hot seat. Roll tide. Tide Roll!

What’s the point? UGA will lose their typical 5-6 games again this season. Same old story

Tim, thanks for all the great articles you put up for us. Please forgive me for going off topic but maybe you could give someone a good smack at the office and get them to fix a problem that has existed for way too long. BTW I have sent e-mails to the “webmaster” but they have been ignored. In the section on Bios of 09 signees Dexter Moody is still listed. Yes he was supposed to be on the list originally but as you know CMR gave him the boot before he ever enrolled for character issues. He should have been removed in early 2009.

And while we are about fixing obviously wrong things, could something other than a picture of Tim Tebow and Zack Mettenberger be the lead-in to the photo galleries????

I think your “webmaster” is a tech puke.

I suppose we are going to get plenty of outrage that they held this meeting in the other Georgia.

Tide Roll, you would think that a fan of a school sporting the current trophy would have a bit more pride than to commit thier time to somebody else’s team, especially posting the exact same worn out bit every day.

I can’t wait for the follow up story about a Florida board meeting and a break down about how much better the Florida board is than the UGA board. Then we can have 100 or so comments from Tech, Florida, and Bama fans telling us how irrelevant our program is.

DAWG POUND it’s pretty sad when dawgs have to have a “protected ” forum to protect you from other teams fans trashtalk. But then again, it’s kind of reflective of you football team and how they protect the turf at Sanford.

Have you guys seen tape on Jujuan James and Ed Christian ? both hugh offensive tackles leaving the state and going to Auburn and Tennessee! I’m beginning to wonder what’s truly being evaluated when Richt and Bobo watch these tapes. Aren’t you ? Anyway Ut and Au and ala. truly appreciate it. can’t wait to see what you’ll send us this year. By the way, what the heck is Kenarious Gates doing?! Doesn’t he know he’ll just sit behind Kolton Houston for 4 years?!

James T – lose their typical 5-6 games? I think you commented on the wrong blog. This is a UGA blog, not a GT blog. Included in that 5-6 games GT loses, 1 of those is at the hands of their in-state rivals. Which, in about 2-3 years will be replaced by GSU, as they’ll surpass GT as #2 in the state…

Tide Roll – Glad you are so infatuated UGA that you know more about their recruits than Bama. The state of Georgia produces a lot of talent year in, year out. It’s impossible to sign them all. Wish we could. Unfortunately, there’s not nearly as much HS talent that comes from Ala or Tn, so on the occassion there are some, they are usually “locks” to stay in state. Thanks for playing though.

Ann Arbor calls the Sabans

Alabama has benefited from being coached by Nick Saban, Nick is argueably the best college football coach in the land. NCs at both LSU and now at Alabama. Congrats. Amazing stat that is.

Now? Nick will feel the old wanderlust again and if he wins the 2011 title or not, he will move on to Michigan. He could rebuild that university back to national champion caliber within 3 or 4 years and then, he would hang it up. Their challenge is calling. He will not coach forever in Tuscaloosa. I give him one, maybe two more years, then they bolt. That is his style.

His wife wants him to be happy. Whether they enjoy the Alabama / Tuscaloosa family now or not, he will move to the next great little college town …………Ann Arbor. His wife is happy if he is happy and moving makes him very happy. Challenges do too. Michigan is that challenge and they are close to dumping that failure Rodriquez.

Some new rules ...........no, not on immigration

We need some new rules …………..everytime there is a UGA piece, some numb skull has to bad mouth whatever it is. I am convinced that these geeks are kids and / or unemployable youngsters.

Thheri jelaousy is eating at them. It comes out as spewed vile comments. You can always discern who they are.

New Rule: You cannot comment here unless you are a legit college student ( on course to graduate, I might add ) or a college grad. In other words, unless you paid to play ( tuition $$ ) your opinions matter not. Otherwise, the jealousy comes out and it is so obvious.

Afterall ………we cannot all be GEORGIA BULLDOGS ……………..Go Dogs.

PS
a red convertible full of lovely lovlies on a srping day in Athens is so nice. Nice in the fall too.
