UGA No. 2 in SEC all-sports standings. Surprised?

It won’t surprise anyone that Florida was the most successful sports program in the SEC during the 2009-10 school year, but it might surprise some that Georgia was the second most successful.

Florida is the runaway winner of the SEC All-Sports Trophy, while Georgia — despite  disappointing seasons in football and several other sports — is the runner-up, solidly ahead of third-place Tennessee.

The annual award is based on a points system tied to each school’s SEC finish in each sport, men’s and women’s. Schools get 12 points for a first-place finish, 11 for a second-place finish, etc. A school’s cumulative point total is divided by the number of teams it fields. The award is coordinated and presented by the New York Times Regional Media Group, which includes 14 newspapers in the Southeast.

Florida had a total of 163 points, or an average of 10.19 per team, for this school year . Georgia had 133 points, or 8.31 per team. Here are the full standings:

(Note: Indoor and outdoor track and field and cross-country are combined.)

In addition to the overall trophy, separate awards are given to the conference’s top-performing school(s) in men’s sports and women’s sports. Florida won both of those trophies, too.

The Gators’ men’s teams averaged 10.79 points, far ahead of second-place Mississippi’s 7.92.  Auburn finished third among the men’s teams (7.36), with Georgia and Tennessee tying for fourth (7.14).

On the women’s side, Florida’s teams averaged 9.72 points, while Georgia was second at 9.22.

“ALL I can say to Tennessee fans is Kiffin treated your program like it deserves to be treated as second rate.”

Tennessee has put out greater football players than the dawgs. Also, TN has more national titles than UGAY.

Winning 20 of the last 23 SEC all sports Titles is sweet but is it better then beating the Dawgs 17 of the last 20 football games? Not a chance! Go Gators………

Most SEC schools suck at most of the sports they play. UGa just sucks a little less.

I don’t understand. UGa basketball team sucked royally, I mean they were bad (losing record; real bad conference record. Our baseball sucked worse than anybody. Neither teams were even close to making it to national tourneys. Worse we’ve ever had. And we are the 2d best sports school in the SEC. Go figure: SEC must really suck overall in sports. Maybe each team is good in one sport and sucks at the rest.

It must be a really slow day for Tim to post such meaningless stuff as this. How about posting some numbers on how many athletes at UGA graduated and what degrees they earned.

Now that we’re officially in the off-season, wouldn’t this be the perfect time to take an in-depth look at UGA and have a free-ranging discussion about the problems at UGA and why the arrest rate of players is the highest in the country? it’s common knowledge that UGA is a party school, but have any football players every actually graduated with a real degree? Jan Kemp exposed the school and the coaches almost three decades ago, but there is no sign that anything has improved; if anything, the arrest rate shows that things are getting more outrageous every year while Mark Richt – a decent fellow with no coaching skills – has no clue what to do.

UGA has become a major embarrassment to all Georgians, and we want some answers starting now.

And the only number that really counts to UGA fans is how many times UGA has beaten Florida in football, and that number is v-e-r-y small.

Even at the university of football, with 100% focus on getting players into the program who can barely read, somehow keeping them eligible with mickey mouse courses, Ga still finds a way to lose 5 games!!!! Tech will own Ga in 2010—bank on a big win by the jackets in athens, bigger than 2 years ago!!!!

WOW, seem to have struck a chord with Dumb…. He has said ND is his dream job and had to apologize for saying how he truly felt. Get over it Florida you are NOT his dream job, but just a job. Get the Uhaul ready. Without the boy crush with Tebow keeping him there he is going to leave soon if he does not suffer exhaustion first.

No, did Bama sell the trophy WalMart to pay for Nick Saban’s new bonus?

Congrats to UGA and UT for representing themselves well.
To the Dawg fans pilling hate on here, how many of you actually attended UGA? I’d bet less than 5%. Most alumni have more class.
I’d be bitter, too, if I was continuosly swatting flies that keep coming through that hole in the screen of my single-wide!

I resent that allegation, I resent the alli-gator.

But, somehow, he’s not on the hot seat? I guess beating south carolina, vandy and kentucky is all that matters!!!! Vols will beat Ga again in 2010—mark it down!
