Dogs match Tide, Gators on Phil Steele’s preseason All-SEC teams

College football’s preseason hype is flowing at full force.  Analyst/publisher Phil Steele’s various preseason All-America and all-conference teams came out this week. Georgia is well represented.

The Bulldogs have six players on the  preseason All-SEC first team, tying Alabama for the most, and 14 selections on the four all-conference teams combined, tying Florida for the most.

Also, Georgia has two players on the preseason All-America first team –- one of five schools with two or more — and five players on the four All-America teams.

Here are the details on Georgia’s representation on the Phil Steele College Football preseason teams:

All-America first team: Wide receiver A.J. Green and punter Drew Butler.

All-America second team: Placekicker Blair Walsh.

All-America third team: Offensive tackle Clint Boling.

All-America fourth team: Kickoff returner Brandon Boykin.

All-SEC first team: Green, Boling, Boykin (as kickoff returner), Walsh, Butler and outside linebacker Justin Houston.

All-SEC second team: center Ben Jones, offensive guard Cordy Glenn and running back Washaun Ealey.

All-SEC third team: Tight end Orson Charles, offensive guard Chris Davis, linebacker Marcus Dowtin and Boykin (as cornerback).

All-SEC fourth team: Safety Bacarri Rambo.

Poor poor Techies. They don’t even have the courage to identify themselves as Tech fans on the internet. Does it get anymore pathetic? They hide like little girls behind neutral sounding monikers and pop off at the mouth about how UGA underforms. Its just so funny how none of this supposed underperforming ever occurs against their toilet bowl football team. I guess that’s why they hide like little sissies.

LOL @ Tech fans.

It’s kind of sad to see all the Dawg fans getting so excited this year (just
like the year before, the year before that, etc.). How long is it going to
take for UGA fans to realize that UGA is simply no longer relevant in the
SEC? In the national picture, UGA isn’t even a blip on the radar, and hasn’t
been since the preseason #1 ranking two years ago.

Sit back and be grateful for the seven or eight wins you’ll get every year.
Coaching genius Mark Richt may take you to 10-2 or even 11-1 occasionally,
but Florida will still win the SEC, meaning no BCS bowls and no top 15 final
ranking. Most years, UGA will be very lucky to finish in the top 25, and
only after a big bowl win over a nobody opponent.

It’s a different world now, and Dawg fans, like FSU and Ole Miss fans, need
to adjust their expectations downward to reflect reality.

Unfortunately nothing is going to change until UGA changes its mediocre
coaching. That’s where the difference is, and that’s why everyone outside
Bulldog Nation just laughs at Dawg fans getting so excited year after year
about what a great recruiting class UGA gets. It doesn’t matter how many
blue chip high school plays go to UGA, they simply don’t get the coaching
they would get at Florida or Alabama, to name two schools whose programs are
far ahead of UGA. And that’s not going to change as long as Mark Richt is in
Athens.

Get your heads out of the sand and face reality. And mediocrity and
irrelevance.

In my opinion Ben Jones (C from Georgia) is a 1st team All-SEC Center. He is IMO the BEST center in the SEC and one of the top in the country and he’s only a junior this upcoming season. 2nd team All-SEC isn’t bad by any means, but that usually means that there’s a player that plays better than you at that position which I don’t think there is. Maybe Mike Pouncey (Florida) but thats it. Go to youtube.com and watch highlights of Georgia vs. Georgia Tech and watch as we run the ball all day how Ben Jones is making pancake block after pancake block. This guy is a stud and he has a real nasty streak. GATA!

If Willie Martinez had been fired after 08′, Bacarri Rambo would be first team All-SEC going into this year. As it was, he had to swallow his vomit while watching Bryan Evans continue to fail. Rambo will be first team All-SEC on the post-season team. Mark it down. This guy is the next Eric Berry–both 6′0″, 211lbs with great athleticism and a nose for the ball.

Anybody agree that he has this type of potential ?

I am Tech guy but I have always known that the Dawgs have had the talent…that was obvious for all to see. Perhaps now they (especially the defense) will have the coaching neccesary to prove it week in and week out on the field. Part of the reason CPJ is so embraced by the Tech fans is that he doesn’t accept excuses. If CMR adopts that philosophy then the boys from Athens could go a long way

Mr. Tucker….do you see Stripling, Thornton, Burrows, Fields or Ogletree contributing on the defensive side of the ball this year? I know you never really want to count on freshman contributing but obviously depth is a concern on this side of the ball.

All Gators- Why are you here? Does Florida not produce enough jobs to employ you all? Florida is a very fine school. Does it not produce grads who can start businesses that will employ other Florida grads? Is there not a newspaper in Florida that you can blog on? All of this gloating, while you never played a single down of football, is being done from your jobs and homes in the capital of the south – Atlanta GEORGIA. The only way you can be more obnoxious is to be a Tech fan posing as a Gator.

We have young talent that will get lot’s of recognition and notice this year. 2010 the Year of the DAWG!

Then we have some solid maturing talent with the likes of…. Green, Butler, Boykin, Walsh, Boiling and Jones. Great nucleaous for a Great team. Go DAWGS! 30-24

Is Charles a 3rd team selection because he will be splitting playing time? I have to assume that there aren’t to many TEs as talented as him in the SEC or the country for that matter. I expect a breakout year from him as defenses will be focusing on AJ Green and the 3-4 combo out of the backfield.

Hey Dawg Days- South Carolina and Arkansas? They might not even have coaches by the time they play GA. Spurrier is done and washed up. Maybe it’s the team. Same thing happened to Holtz. And Booby P may get an offer to coach highschool. He doesn’t seem to be able to stay in 1 place for too long, especially if the competion or expectations become too great.

All these great players should be good enough to get us another 8-5 season. We are closer to being a consistent 8-5 team than we are to being a 10-2 team.

Just saw where Phil Steele had 4 UNC players on his All-America Team. Three were 1st-teamers, and one was a 2d-teamer. 10 UNC defenders were on his 4-deep. How do you explain what Butch has put together on defense at UNC?

It would have been better if the article placed UGA in the top 15 pre-season but I guess recent performance precludes that. Individual performers are fine and we have had them, but as a team that’s something else entirely.

I do believe CMR has taken care of the defensive side with the new coaches. He was hired, in part, because of his OC background at FSU. Time to get creative with the play calling. Let,s face it, UGA ALA, FLA etc recruit basically the same players through out the southeast. It is what you do with the talent that counts. If I can tell from a tv screen what the play is likely to be based upon the formation, how much more do you think the opposing coaches know what’s coming, especially when UGA has the ball. Let’s see some of that OC/HC magic this year!

Not sure why everyone thinks the Dawgs are so bad. Last year was a disappointment, but I know that the team improves by 2 or 3 games this year just by turning the turnover ratio around. And don’t forget, GA led the SEC in wins the last decade, albeit without a NC (no sour grapes, but…). Here’s a ranking of teams of the decade (2000-2009) http://www.frumpzilla.com/frumpzilla_site/articles/the-top-25-college-football-programs-of-the-decade/ . GA is a perennial top 10 program and the numbers don’t lie.

You win championships by vigorous practice sessions,
to the extent on game day you are ready to take it out
on your opposition, and when you walk out on the field on
game day, there is no doubt that you are better coached
and conditioned and whoever is lining up against you is gonna
get the crap beat out of them. Vigorous practice = No Fear
and Confidence.

Tucker, we know your biased but why not list the whole SEC team list. Puppy Dawg savior. I hear Saint Richt is telling recruits he’s rounding up the Georgia Dream Team for 2011. All this means is Ga will only lose to UF by 14 pts. Keeping it real bubba.

Spring is in the air. A time when all the Poodle players will be all-conference, or better. A time when the Poodles will finally beat the dreaded reptiles. A time when a midget QB will be dominant in the SEC against teams with a real QB like Bama and Florida. A time when some obscure Poodle center will be better than the heads-on favorite for the top award.

Come fall, UGA will have ONE star, AJ Green, who unfortuately is not a household word because the Poodles could not get the ball to him. But until the, aint Spring wonderful.

In todays AJC: “Former UGA student gets probation for battery of Clemson student.”

Right in a UGA frat house. Just another example of thuggery by UGA students.

And I use the word “students” very loosely to describe the drunken partiers at UGA.

Actually James was right Boykin is listed at kick returner for 1st & 4th all-teams. Look again and read it.

Speculation is just that. The key to the Dawgs will be great QB play and somebody replacing Rennie & Asher on defense. The rb’s,wr’s,lines are solid.

This preseason ranking of the players is silly. Let’s see how it shakes out AFTER they lace ‘em up and hit the field. Besides, you don’t have to have superstars to win. You need a great coach and a solid TEAM!
I would think the Dawgs would have learned that lesson after the Stafford-Moreno years. Ya’ll can keep the individual accolades…..we’ll take the trophies!
