Georgia lost three baseball games to Florida over the weekend, which got me to wondering: What is the Bulldogs’ record against the Gators in all sports in head-to-head competition this school year?
It’s not good, as you know. It’s awful, as a matter of fact. It’s 3-14, to be precise.
Here’s Georgia’s record by sport against the Gators in 2009-10 (includes only dual competitions):
(Note: The two scheduled Georgia-Florida softball games were rained out.)
In multi-team competitions (not included above), there were at least a couple of notable occasions when Georgia finished ahead of Florida this school year: Georgia won the SEC men’s golf tournament, where Florida tied for second place, and the SEC women’s swimming and diving meet, where Florida finished second. On the other hand, Florida won the SEC gymnastics meet, where Georgia finished third, and the SEC men’s track and field meet, where Georgia finished fifth.
Georgia gets another shot at the Gators this week. In the NCAA Tennis Championships in Athens, Georgia’s men’s team (the No. 11 seed) will play Florida (the No. 6 seed) in the round of 16 at 6 p.m. Friday. The Dogs and Gators have met twice previously this season in men’s tennis, with Florida winning both times — in the ITA National Team Indoor Championships in February and then in an SEC regular-season match in Gainesville.
And if you’re looking for something more upbeat: Watch Aaron Murray’s tape, Mark Richt advises uneasy fans.

Please, from the Little People Society of America, no more references to midgets. That term needs to be tossed. (Get it?). Murray the Munchkin or Murray the Mutt will be fine. Even “Aaron the Altitude Challenged” will be fine.

15 of UGA’s National Championships are in Women’s Gymnastics and Equestrian so don’t act as if the number of NC’s for your athletic program is a reflection of an Athletic Program that’s anywhere close to as strong or successful as what Florida’s is.

The Poodles win championships in chick sports, e.g. equestrian and gymnastics. The Gators totally dominate UGA in the sport of men, not the female poodle sports where you wear ribbons in your hair and prance about like girlies.

Wait, I was wrong, the football team pranced around like girlies after scoring a touchdown — and the Gators will make them pay for it for another decade.

2-7 vs Florida in football in the Coach Richt Era.
That is all that matters.
We cannot get out of our own division of our own conference.
Not once beat the vols and Florida the same year in Coach Richt Era.
1-3 vs vols the last 4 years
1-3 vs Florida the last 4 years
Recruits telling us that we have to convince them that UGA can win The SEC Championship
Offensive Players in this state, signing somewhere else
If we lose to South Carolina at night on the road in game 2 this up-coming season that will be 10-11 vs SEC East then the last 5 years

Matthew Stafford, what is my point ?
That he did not do a damn thing while he was here.
Besides fumbling and throwing interceptions the same number as he threw touchdown passes.
Being declared # 3 on the depth chart behind Joe Tereshinski III and behind Joe Cox.
That he came to UGA as the NFL 1st overall draft pick and left that way.
That he won no SEC Championships.
That he won no SEC East Championships.
That he was never considered the best quarterback in our own division of our own conference.
That he lost to all 5 SEC East opponents in a ROW consecutively.
That he handed the football off to Knowshon Moreno an average of 14 times a game in the 3 losses after being ranked # 1 in the nation, preseason.
That he took a football program on the brink of being considered Elite, and ran us in the ground totally.
That he beat 1 team ranked Top 10 Final AP Poll, Auburn # 9.
That he has us now looking at a LOSING RECORD 10-111 the last 4 years vs SEC East teams if we lose to South Carolina.
That he lost to teams he should have beat.
And, mostly that I said when he got to the NFL, that Matthew Stafford would continue to throw interceptions and to fumble since we taught him not a damn thing.

You sir are a total idiot! you run from the numbers when they do not add up in your favor. UGA has 38 NCAA NATIONAL TITLES and UF has a pathetic 18 NCAA NATIONAL TITLES. Football, yes you guys have had a run on us, but I never disputed that.
Also, it is all about the present and we are kicking your @$$ this year.

We are not kicking Florida’s butt at football this season.
How utterly preposterous.
Brantley is a top quarterback, and he is totally prepared.
For the 3rd time since 2005, we have failed to prepare our quarterbacks for the following season.

Georgia must wins for 2010: USC, UT, UF. I know. I know. We want to win them all. I know we want to play for the SEC which means getting Ws against Vandy, UK, Arky, Missy State, and Auburn. UGA simply must win the head to head match ups in the EAst, the biggies being USC, UT, UF in that order. The trifecta that will make all okay in Dawgville.

UF’s athletic dominance is not a one year event as has been suggested by severla Dawg fans. Nor has UGA had the upper hand very much at all in the last 25 years in overall athletics. The Gators are about to wrap up their 18th SEC All Sports trophy in the last 19 years…their 20th in the last 23 years. Moreover, it is about to be their 10th sweep of the 3 trophies – overall, men’s and women’s. No other SEC team has ever had a sweep once!!! And UF almost had 3 additional sweeps, but missed out barely by an upset in a conference tournament or individual event. They also are the only school in the nation that has been in the top 10 of the national all sports rnkings every year that the data has been compiled…even though they have fewer sports programs than many of the other contenders…and that streak is approaching 30 years.
And the overall football series thing is a lame claim. If you started today and went backwards, UGA wouldn’t take thier first series lead until the early 1930’s…nearly 80 years ago. And that was in the time without facemasks or African-American players.
UGA has a fine athletic program….one of the top 15 in the nation and, on occasion, on of the top 10. But don’t begrudge UF their excellence…Dawgs should strive for it rather than tear it down.

Tim, What a dumb article. Everyone knows UGA had a down year in gymnastics, tennis and baseball — sports Georgia is normally very competitive in. Everyone also knows these things are cyclical. Also, Florida doesn’t compete in equestrian and the softball teams didn’t even get to play eachother. Quit trying to stir the pot over nothing.

To all you gator fans (and tech pretenders) who think you’re so great — I just looked it up. Florida has 19 NCAA national championships, Georgia has 31, and Tech has one (1). So, it just goes to show these things are cyclical like I said. Bottom line — Georgia produces champions at the highest level of competition. A down year in a couple of sports means absolutely nothing. Can’t wait until equestrian gets a few more varsity teams in the sport and becomes NCAA sanctioned — that would have been five more national championships.

I love seeing the pups talk about lack of tradition. For a team that is supposedly so deep in tradition, they only hold an overall 7 game lead in the series. Furthermore, since both teams joined the modern day SEC in 1933, the record is just on game in UGA’s favor at 38-37-1.
I guess if the dogs are arguing about lack of history, we should argue lack of recent success, and I don’t mean just since 91. Since 1950, Florida leads the series 34-25-1….not bad for a team with no history since 1991.
Well, at least the puppies have their favorite recent arguments like “Stafford will be a better NFL QB than Tebow” and “Mark Richt is a better person than Urban Meyer”. I hope those two thoughts keep you warm as you pile out of Jacksonville Municipal Stadium in the mid 3rd quarter.

AirRailey, Gillislee, others — you just want to talk about football now. Your argumant doesn’t make any sense. This series has always been cyclical. But the tradition perspective comes from the fact UGA owned the series from 1904 – 1949 with a record of 22-5-1. FLA took control in the 50’s and 60’s with a record of 12-7-1. GA once again took over for a twenty year period from 1970 – 1989 with a record of 14-5. FLA surged back as we all know so well from the Gator’s boasting from 1990 – 2009 with a record of 17 – 3 (a twenty year period as well). So, as you can see — the fluctuations have been fairly consistent. How covenient Gator fans want to forget the early years and the 70’s and 80’s (great football years). But we now enter a new decade ahead — are the Gators getting nervous, let the pendulum swing!

It’s so funny to see the repeated chant from UGA on Florida’s mullets and jean shorts. Florida is a melting pot of diverse students, much like the state. Florida and Vanderbuilt are the only 2 research universities in the SEC that are members of the prestigous Association of Universities which attracts a high number of international students. As for the native Florida students that do attend, you are more likely to find tanned students in bikinis and surf shirts than jean shorts. Go anywhere in Florida and you will find that, but UGA students only travel to places that wave the confederate flag so it’s understandable that you don’t know what people wear here.

While UGA does hold the series over UF and rightfully should be proud, it is little consolation for current students who weren’t born back then and have seen UGA lose over and over to UF. This impacts recruiting when young kids want to go to the dominant school THEY grew up with. UGA will come back on top, but they need to get top recruits like Florida and Alabama to make that happen and the series record doesn’t help now.
