Dogs are 3-14 vs. Gators this school year

Georgia lost three baseball games to Florida over the weekend, which got me to wondering: What is the Bulldogs’ record against the Gators in all sports in head-to-head competition this school year?

It’s not good, as you know. It’s awful, as a matter of fact. It’s 3-14, to be precise.

Here’s Georgia’s record by sport against the Gators in 2009-10 (includes only dual competitions):

  • Football: 0-1
  • Men’s basketball: 1-1
  • Women’s basketball: 1-1
  • Baseball: 0-3
  • Gymnastics: 0-1
  • Soccer: 0-1
  • Women’s swimming and diving: 1-0
  • Men’s swimming and diving: 0-1
  • Men’s tennis: 0-2
  • Women’s tennis: 0-1
  • Volleyball: 0-2.
  • Total: 3-14

(Note: The two scheduled Georgia-Florida softball games were rained out.)

In multi-team competitions (not included above), there were at least a couple of notable occasions when Georgia finished ahead of Florida this school year: Georgia won the SEC men’s golf tournament, where Florida tied for second place, and the SEC women’s swimming and diving meet, where Florida finished second. On the other hand, Florida won the SEC gymnastics meet, where Georgia finished third, and the SEC men’s track and field meet, where Georgia finished fifth.

Georgia gets another shot at the Gators this week. In the NCAA Tennis Championships in Athens, Georgia’s men’s team (the No. 11 seed) will play Florida (the No. 6 seed) in the round of 16 at 6 p.m. Friday. The Dogs and Gators have met twice previously this season in men’s tennis, with Florida winning both times — in the ITA National Team Indoor Championships in February and then in an SEC regular-season match in Gainesville.

And if you’re looking for something more upbeat: Watch Aaron Murray’s tape, Mark Richt advises uneasy fans.

Let’s see. Most people around Gainsville are their hometown Gator fans, but most in Atlanta support a team in another city.

What do you expect the outcome then, if you cannot even support your hometown team?

If Georgia wins two National Championships in 5 years you’d be surprised how many new fans would show up. Heck, they might even write comments in Florida newspapers website to rub it in the Gators face.

There’s no sense arguing about our record against Florida. It is what it is. Its horrible and they own us. Let’s not act like pimple faced Techies who try so hard to pretend that their biggest rival doesn’t own them. That would be pathetic and, worst of all, not very smart. Apparently an engineering degree isn’t very helpful when computing won-loss records. You would think that these geniuses could understand simple math, but apparently they cannot.

Yep, Florida owns us. I’m looking out my window and still see sunshine though. And I’m also thankful that a piece of scum like Urban Meyer isn’t our coach. I have to respect the wins and championships, but I do not have to respect the man.

Tim, you’re a “bad guy” for writing a blog like this. Mark Richt might get his feelings hurt. Oh wait, he has balls. Nevermind.

Good day.

Now that’s not nice. He is a good man actually, a one of a kind recruiter, and one of the top 3 coaches in All of College Football. His job is to win, not to be liked by teams that are 4-1 against him.

Immigration office – The Cuba Libre faction in south Florida was all for the invasion attempt. The were highly PO’d when it ended as a humiliating SNAFU by the CIA. Then they got involved with a lot of really bad guys, and it ended up making even worse history with attendant claims of conspiracies and government coverups.

Dawglasville – I did take comfort from the KY > GA win. I did not take comfort in losing to UGA at home by 6 points (Congrats – By far Richt’s best game plan in 2009) or losing a BCS bowl game by 10 points to Iowa. Not happy with those two loses, but neither is hardly a butt whoopin!

Johnny come lately?? It’s amusing our friends in the conference say this about Florida and its athletics…UF has more overall SEC championships than any other school in the conference and it’s not even close. UF has won the SEC Sports Trophy for 19-20 years. Georgia one it about 3 or four years ago. UF athletics has finished in the top ten nationally for each of the past 27 years…no other school in the nation can claim that…not even stanford. UF has the largest budget of it’s SEC brothers and third nationally which will change this year because of the SEC tv contracts. UF will have the most money to spend of any school in the nation. UF holds its coaches accountable. UF is the benchmark for college athletics.

Of course the Gators are in the heads of the Poodles. What is new about that? Word is that UF is going to start scheduling the pups as the Homecoming opponent: Homecoming with the Humpers has a ring to it.

3-14!!!!!

Athens will be renamed Losersville. Why do young men are are smart enough and good enough to go to UF still commit to UGA? Not many do, but it just shows that Richt is a good recruiter when he can sell a career as a loser when he competes with Urban for the rare guy UF wants from UGA.

Jennifer, whats the series record in your lifetime? Pretty dumb smacktalk when you have to be well over 50 years old to have a winning record vs. UF in your lifetime.

UGA fans bragging about the series lead vs. the Gators is akin to an 80 year old homosexual man bragging about all the chicks he use to sleep with when he was a teenager.

and how come when it comes to Tennessee the series record is meaningless? Oh thats because UT owns that one.

The reason for UF’s continued excellence when compared to UGA is LEADERSHIP. Also, as has been noted, it’s not just UGA but the entire SEC in which Florida has been extremely successful (see SEC All Sports Championships).

UF has Dr. Machen and Jeremy Foley. They provide a supportive environment for the athletic program. The right coaches are hired. They are provided the resources that the coaches deem necessary to be able to win. Then the coaches are enabled to build their own program. One caveat – they have to produce and produce well. If not, they are replaced. Foley has made a few mistakes (see Zook) but he then recognizes it and moves on to find a winner.

With Adams and Evans, not so much. Adams has run roughshod over UGA. He demanded Dooley hire Harrick. He forced out Dooley. Yet he sucks up to Don Leeburn and looked the other way to his “relaltionship” with S. Yoculan. To this day former major contributors to UGA have stopped or reduced donations because of Adams. Evans appears to be in over his head. He tolerates mediocrity where Foley does not.

These are the reasons for the disparity everyone. To those of you who can’t come up with anything better than childish insults, grow up and try to get a life.

To UGA’s credit, they were the only other school in the conference that competed with florida for the SEC all sports award…most years it was very close. Don’t know what has happened over the past few years, but Georgia has not been nearly as competitive. Florida got stronger and Georgia weaker. Why?

A little info for Jenny—–

For all you Georgia fans that only have the fact that UGA leads the Florida series
47-37-2 to give you hope, I want to share the real history with you. This is taken from the UGA web site.

http://www.georgiadogs.com//pdf7/146115.pdf?&DB_OEM_ID=8800

If you look just a little closer, you will see that Georgia really owned the Gators from
1904-1935—kinda like the Gators own you now.

But here’s not what you are going to like, since 1936, the GATORS the LEAD THE
SERIES 35-34-1.

So Jenny, for the past 75 years it’s been pretty even, unless of course if you want to revel
in the record of the 1905 – 1935 dawgs.
