Dogs are 3-14 vs. Gators this school year

Georgia lost three baseball games to Florida over the weekend, which got me to wondering: What is the Bulldogs’ record against the Gators in all sports in head-to-head competition this school year?

It’s not good, as you know. It’s awful, as a matter of fact. It’s 3-14, to be precise.

Here’s Georgia’s record by sport against the Gators in 2009-10 (includes only dual competitions):

  • Football: 0-1
  • Men’s basketball: 1-1
  • Women’s basketball: 1-1
  • Baseball: 0-3
  • Gymnastics: 0-1
  • Soccer: 0-1
  • Women’s swimming and diving: 1-0
  • Men’s swimming and diving: 0-1
  • Men’s tennis: 0-2
  • Women’s tennis: 0-1
  • Volleyball: 0-2.
  • Total: 3-14

(Note: The two scheduled Georgia-Florida softball games were rained out.)

In multi-team competitions (not included above), there were at least a couple of notable occasions when Georgia finished ahead of Florida this school year: Georgia won the SEC men’s golf tournament, where Florida tied for second place, and the SEC women’s swimming and diving meet, where Florida finished second. On the other hand, Florida won the SEC gymnastics meet, where Georgia finished third, and the SEC men’s track and field meet, where Georgia finished fifth.

Georgia gets another shot at the Gators this week. In the NCAA Tennis Championships in Athens, Georgia’s men’s team (the No. 11 seed) will play Florida (the No. 6 seed) in the round of 16 at 6 p.m. Friday. The Dogs and Gators have met twice previously this season in men’s tennis, with Florida winning both times — in the ITA National Team Indoor Championships in February and then in an SEC regular-season match in Gainesville.

And if you’re looking for something more upbeat: Watch Aaron Murray’s tape, Mark Richt advises uneasy fans.

To those who asked why do this particular blog: It is what it is, just an accounting of Georgia’s record vs. Florida this school year. I simply wondered after the baseball sweep over the weekend what the cumulative record was, so I added it up and passed it along. Sorry if I got your week off to a bad start.

Through the end of 2009, UF has won 185 combined team sports SEC trophies, the most in conference history. In the 37 year history of the SEC All Sorts Trophy awards, UF had won a record 19 overall trophies. Available on SEC official website. That 19 out of 37 total for overall for those who can’t count…like “Getting Paid”.

Tim, these Dawg people really need help. They would rather you lie to them and tell them that everything is perfect in Athens. They only want to read good news and that is why they are stuck in a 30 year funk.

But, but, but, you know, Mark Richt is a really nice guy! Classy too! So, I’m sure, is the track and field and baseball coach…

I said NATIONAL TITLES Gator, not SEC pay attention. I cannot find any source that gives you more than 18 (my bad, at first I typed 19) NCAA NATIONAL TITLES. UGA has 38…..do the math…..

Just for sport Tim why don’t you look up the Georgia vs Tech record this year. Our friends at Tech have so much interest in our record against Florida.

Just needed to give the Tech haters somewhere to blog, huh?

Here’s an idea…how ’bout writing a story about something going on in Tech’s sports department. Oh, that’s right…there’s nothing going on in the Tech sports department to write about. Hey! You could write about Tech’s football recruiting…oh, that’s right, nothing going on there either.

Could the AJC start a calculus blog or a World of Warcraft blog? That might give them something to do.

If you check the facts from the last 75 years, they will prove that we have a 50.1111111111111111% winning record agains Florida and since CMR has been there we have a 69% winning record in the SEC and against top programs when they are not on a down year.

When we get old, we all go to Florida, while when FL graduates are dumped by their college, they come to work for us.

Yeah, aren’t most Floridians Yankees?

What do you expect the outcome then, if you cannot even support your hometown team?
