Richt advises uneasy fans: Just watch Aaron Murray’s tape

Most people who follow Georgia football had figured since the end of last season that Aaron Murray probably would be the Bulldogs’ starting quarterback in 2010. What no one figured, of course, was that his competition would dissipate as it has.

But with Zach Mettenberger dismissed from the team and Logan Gray shifting part-time to wide receiver, Murray seems suddenly solidly entrenched as the Dogs’ 2010 quarterback.

“We’re thinner at QB than we expected to be at this time,” coach Mark Richt told a Bulldog Club gathering this week, “but if you want to feel good about it, just go back on the Internet and do a little search on Aaron Murray and watch Aaron’s high school tape. And I think you’ll get just as excited as you were the day he . . . committed to Georgia.”

Murray in spring practice, watched by Mike Bobo (AJC photo/Brant Sanderlin)

(If you want to heed Richt’s advice, by the way, you can find plenty video of Murray’s high school days on YouTube.)

Richt has said that Murray, a redshirt freshman, would have been No. 1 on the post-spring depth chart even if Mettenberger had not been kicked off the team, and Gray’s desire to play wide receiver seems to speak volumes about how he saw the chances of surpassing Murray at quarterback this summer.

In high school in Tampa, Murray was a Parade Magazine All-American and MVP of the prestigious Elite 11 camp for the nation’s top quarterback prospects. But fresher on Georgia fans’ minds is his underwhelming performance in the G-Day spring game.

Richt seemed to be trying to ease those concerns during the Bulldog Club meeting at the Walnut Creek Shooting Preserve near Macon this week.

“His skill set -– you would take Aaron Murray every single year that you are recruiting a quarterback,” Richt said. “He’s got a very quick release. He’s an accurate passer. I know in the G-Day game he wasn’t super-accurate, but you got to admit we threw a lot of very low-percentage balls that day. He’s an accurate passer.”

Murray will be the only newcomer on an offense that returns starters at the other 10 positions. He’ll have the luxury of an experienced  line, two talented tailbacks and one of the nation’s top wide receivers.

Murray “is to the point, in my opinion, where he just needs to play,” Richt said in an interview.  “The biggest thing for him is to understand that you don’t have to do anything spectacular. You don’t have to put the team on your shoulders. You’re not required to carry this football team. You’re required to do your job. And part of your job is to not try to be a hero.

“My biggest thing is: Don’t turn a bad play into a catastrophe. If it’s a bad play, throw it away, take a sack, whatever you got to do.. . .  Let’s not be flippant or casual with that ball.”.

Georgia committed 28 turnovers (17 interceptions thrown and 11 fumbles lost) last season and had an atrocious turnover ratio of minus-16 (28 lost, 12 gained). Richt calls turnover ratio the most important statistic in football.

“If we just turn that around, we win a minimum of 10 and probably 11 games [last season],” he said. “So we got to get better at that.”

That will require forcing more opponent turnovers, which is up to Todd Grantham’s defense, and protecting the ball better on offense, which starts with Aaron Murray.

aaron murray would have been the number one quarterback for many recruit ranking systems (espn, etc.) had he not broken his leg. all these “fans” who bash murray for bad accuracy and a weak arm obviously never has seen his camp and season tapes–hes a beast!! how many of his passes were either dropped or hit the finger tips of his receivers on g-day. of course in his first game in front of a large crowd in college hes gonna have some nerves but thats expected. murray will have a productive season and great career at uga and prove all his doubter wrong

I think the thing that worries most UGA fans about Murray is that if he is so good, then why did Joe Cox start every game last year? They probably forget or maybe do not know that Murray was injured for a good portion of the season and that’s more than likely what held him back from starting.

Okay I did, he hasn’t played in a game in 16 months, 20 months come September. Zero SEC experience for the young man, his first SEC test will be in a hostile enviroment against a pretty good team and defense.

The main reason Murray will have a decent season–Georgia plays the weakest schedule in the SEC. When Georgia is getting all lathered up over a visit to Columbia you know it’s a weak atse schedule. Once they hit Jax reality will set in. This is another avg Richt team. Plays the avg teams well but can’t matchup physically with Fla, Bama, LSU and other elite SEC teams.

Weak Schedule,

What are you talking about?

Georgia holds the all-time series lead against the following teams from the SEC: Arkansas, Florida, Kentucky, Mississippi, Mississippi State, South Carolina, and Vanderbilt.

The Dogs also own the all-time series lead against non-conference and in-state rival Georgia Tech. In the past 20 meetings, the Bulldogs have defeated the Yellow Jackets 15 times.

On the flip side, Alabama, Auburn, LSU, and Tennessee each own the all-time series lead against the Dogs. Georgia, however, has closed the gap on Alabama and LSU by winning 3 of the last 4. And the Dogs have owned Auburn as of late winning 4 out of the last 5! On the flip side, the Bulldogs have not faired well against Tennessee winning only 2 of the last 5 contests. As for hanging with the big dogs, Georgia is the the big DAWG!

FACT: Aaron Murray is a kid with marginal intelligence and athletic skills. The Dawg fans who are getting all pumped up over him need to get a better grip on reality. There are plenty of impressive looking high school quarterbacks who fizzle when they get to college. The SEC isn’t high school, folks, and you let Coach Bozo work with this kid during the summer and fall, you’re getting set up for a huge letdown.

Mettenberger was by far the best QB prospect, and he’s gone. Maybe Richt should be on the phone begging Zach to come back. After a few games, I can just see Sanford Stadium full of signs saying ZACH COME BACK.

So get steeled now for a very frustrating season. If the Dawgs can cut down on penalties and arrests and get a break or two, they may finish 7-5 or 8-4, but that’s as good as it’s going to get as long as Richt is the head coach at UGAy.

AMEN
A real effort to cut out stupid mistakes at the QB position and throughout the defense will make a huge difference in the games this fall. Of course showing up with a REAL defense is going to make things SO MUCH better for everyone.

Clint, Injury was only a part of it. CMR has stated that given the choice he will ALWAYS redshirt QBs and interior linemen. QBs not only have to get used to the much faster pace that they will face in the SEC but the playbooks are as thick as big city phone books and the QBs have a couple of them. The system is very complex and they have to know everything in them so well that they don’t have to stop and think but rather just act and react. That redshirt year is invaluable to those kids. It also gives them a chance to build confidence in themselves and instill confidence in their teammates that they are going to be able to handle the position.

By Jacksonville, the three Gator first team AA defensive linemen will be contributing. Book it, Ron Powell, the best player in the nation last year and his DT buddy who was picked MVP in two all-star games, will stuff a ball or two thrown by the midget rookie QB for the Poodles — if Murray still is in the line-up because he is an injury prone guy. That is good news because it will prevent another pick thrown by the Athens rookie.

The Georgia Bulldogs; The 15th
Most Prestigious College Football Program in the Nation

http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=3849468

The University of Georgia began their football history 116 years ago in 1892. Since that time, the Bulldogs have played 1,174 games and have compiled an overall record of 731-389-54; the third best Southeastern Conference (SEC) record behind Alabama and Tennessee.

The Dogs have won twelve SEC titles and two national championships in their storied history: a shared title in 1942 and a consensus national championship in 1980. The football program has produced two Heisman Trophy winners (Frank Sinkwich, 1942, and Herschel Walker, 1982) and is the only college football program in the nation to hold the distinction of having three graduates become Super Bowl MVPs (Jake Scott, 1972, Terrell Davis, 1998, and Hines Ward, 2005).

Georgia holds the all-time series lead against the following teams from the SEC: Arkansas, Florida, Kentucky, Mississippi, Mississippi State, South Carolina, and Vanderbilt.

The Dogs also own the all-time series lead against non-conference and former SEC rival Georgia Tech winning 15 of the last 20 contests.

Alabama, Auburn, LSU, and Tennessee each own the all-time series lead against the Dogs. However, the Dogs have closed the gap on Alabama and LSU by winning 3 of the last 4. And the Dogs have owned Auburn as of late winning 4 out of the last 5! On the flip side, the Bulldogs have not faired well against Tennessee winning only 2 of the last 5.

Under the leadership of current head coach Mark Richt, the Bulldogs have finished #3 and #2 in the nation (2002, 2007), have recruited a top ten class (according to Rivals) 8 out of Richt’s 9 seasons at Georgia (the nation’s longest active streak until this year), won two SEC Championships (2002, 2005), three SEC Eastern Division titles, and tied for another. Coach Richt’s 90-27 record is sixth best in the country in winning percentage among active coaches (.769). He was named SEC Coach of the Year in both 2002 and 2005. His record against non-conference teams is 39-4 and his teams are 33-6 when playing in an opponent’s home stadium. He is one of only nine head coaches in Division I-A history to record 60 or more wins in his first six season and 70 or more wins in his first seven seasons. He’s one of only six coaches in history to win two SEC championships in his first five years, and one of only five head coaches in SEC history to record four straight 10-win seasons (2002-05). In bowl games during his tenure, he has gone 7-2, with three Sugar Bowl appearances and two Sugar Bowl victories. Fifty-four of Richt’s players have been chosen in the NFL draft over the last nine years, including eight chosen in the 2002 NFL draft–the most Georgia players ever selected in a single year. He also produced two 1st round picks in the 2009 draft in which Matthew Stafford was selected #1 overall.

WEAK SCHEDULE? That is true. I’ve looked at it (so you know it must be true) and I realistically think we can be 7-1 going in to FLA. The schedule just lines up for the possibility. More accurately, I think we’ll be 6-2 at that point, but if we are 5-3 (or worse), then I will be EXTREMELY disappointed.

The most important facts are that this team has 10 returning starters on offense and a defense that couldn’t be worse than we were last year. I realize part of the defense failures were rooted in the offense putting them in bad situations repeatedly but that too should be improved with a fully developed run game. Once that came together, it was a different last half of the season than the first! I don’t know about 10 wins like CMR said, but there was obvious room for improvement.

BTW TERESA – Weren’t you Murray’s HS prom date that he dumped for the hotter Cheerleader captain? You sound like sour grapes… I hate North Ave Nerds who have nothing better to do than be envious of a serious football program!

Here’s what’s really grating on the jackets (as shown in their report at #18th)…
The Yellow Jackets haven’t had a major bowl win since the 1955-56 season, when they won the 1956 Sugar Bowl at the tail end of the aforementioned five-year dream run under coach Bobby Dodd.
Did you know? Georgia Tech is the highest-rated team in the Prestige Rankings to never be ranked No. 1 in an AP poll.

I’m a little baffled that Richt would point to high school film. I mean, dont’ all 3-5 star recruits have some pretty good film from high school? Seems pretty silly to me.
I’m sure Murray will have some good games and bad games, as just about all first year starters do. I suspect Brantley will have a poor game or two himself.
I think the Dawgs season will rely on how well Richt has changed the mentality of the TEAM. Penalties, turnovers and the sideline dancing were all due to poor discipline and lack of accountability. The season’s success or failure lies on the shoulders or the coaches….not the players. UGA has always has the talent…..just need to coach ‘em up!

Funny how people are all fascinated with how tall Aaron Murray is. He was one of the most highly recruited QB’s coming out of high school. He didn’t play last year because he was coming off a broken leg with a dislocated ankle. One more thing about his height. Aaron Murray reminds UGA fans of Drew Brees huh? Based off what? Being similar in height? Or you heard someone on tv say it? Always love when an ESPN talking head makes a comment regarding a player, the next thing you know everyone and their brother come up with that same scouting report on the kid and act like they have seen all kinds of film on him.

Poor Murray. My heart goes out to him and his family for what they are about to go through with the Dawg Fan Base. Word of advice, don’t wear your sons picture on a button or his jersey when you sit in the players family section. It really galls me when I see supposed Georgia Fans ragging on the players families in the stands. Mark Richt, good man, wrong man for the job in Athens. He’s out on the rubber chicken circuit selling his starting QB to the main stream idiots. That does not bode well, but he knows the deal….whether he’ll admit it or not, it’s time for him to give Georgia a National Championship in the next tow years or he needs to be gone. With the salary he makes, hehould have done better with the talent that’s been there. Honestly Dawg faithful, don’t you think if Saban had taken the Georgia job that UGA would be in better shape today?

While it’s great that Murray has great film from high school, I think the G-Day game is a much better indicator of where the QBs stand. Murray and Gray looked about even but Mettenberger clearly had the best game that day. The whole Flip Flop Bar thing in Valdosta seemed odd the way it played out but most people are in agreement the Mettenberger had to move on. I agree w/Tampa Gator that Murray’s short passes are fine but his longer throws seem to have too much arc and are often up for grabs. Time will tell if he can make it in the SEC.

Florida will give UGA the usual beatdown in Jacksonville this year. Florida is a perfect example of how worthless recruiting classes are as indicator of the team’s success.

It’s real simple, folks: coaching makes a team. Florida has it. UGA does not. So stop getting your panties in a wad over your recruiting class.

As long as Mark Richt is head coach, UGA will never win the division and play in the SEC championship or play in a BCS bowl.

At least the Dawgs will continue to lead in penalties and arrests. That’s something. :-)

5 or 6 ACC teams in the top 25 this year? Wow! could have swore the top 25 polls came out in August. Must be some great poll you got in the middle of May. Then again this is the same stuff you hear every year from ACC fan “how many teams are in the preseason poll”. Lets see, we are going on 10 years now since an ACC team was actually mentioned in being in the National title hunt near the end of the season. Even the Big East has had programs in the conversations late in the season more recently (West Virginia, Louisivlle ect..) Facts are, without the Florida schools, the ACC is pretty much irrelevant on the national scene. Nobody cares to watch a bunch of North Carolina schools attempt to play football.

1980 was NOT one of the best football teams in history. You will find no one outside of a UGA fan that believes that. The teams you played were all mediocre – Auburn, Tennessee, Clemson – Tech was horrible and they even tied the team you played for a National Championship. In fact, I’d say that the 1980 UGA team probably scrapes the bottom of the barrel if you were to rank the National Championship teams from the last 50 years.

It is never good when the coach has to tell all his fans that his fans don’t know squat about the game, while he hypes yet another player who hasn’t done a thing.

Hey Coach Richt.

When Aaron Murray is next injured, who is coming in sir ?

Caleb King was recruited here 2007. He had a broken bone in his upper leg, tibia. He was redshirted 2007 at 5’ 11” and 212 lbs out of Greater Atlanta Christian High School where he transferred to from Parkview. He was the # 1 overall football recruit in the state of Georgia and the # 8 running back in the nation.

Caleb King is a Junior. A redshirt Junior.

2008 he had 100 yards rushing against Georgia Southern in his first game.

He hasn’t had 100 yards rushing since except for the last regular season game against a very porous Georgia tek rushing defense.

In between he had 1 yard rushing 2008 against Florida. None against Kentucky. None against Auburn, 1 yard rushing against Georgia tek. 0 again against Michigan State. Only the Kentucky and Auburn games 2008 could Caleb King not play. He has needed surgery since he got on this campus. He prefers to sit out, or be named the Starting Tailback and not be able to report to the field to take a carry.

Perhaps you remember the 2008 season ?

Alabama who was ahead 31 to nothing at halftime. Caleb King was our tailback. He had 5 yards rushing in the entire game.

He also had 2 passes he caught. That was for 2 more yards. 7 yards is what he had rushing and catching the ball.

No wonder we lost. Why even send him out there ?

The next game Caleb King had 15 yards total in the game. He had 10 touches for 15 yards. He had 9 rushes and 1 catch and amassed a grand total of 15 yards vs the vols that day.

2 games after that against Vandie, Caleb King had 12 yards total in the whole entire game. 12 yards.

Then, we got to the next big game, after we had already seen what Caleb King could do against Alabama. And, this is of course the Florida game. We were losing 42 to nothing. Caleb King amassed a grand total of 1 yard total in the game. He caught a pass and had a rushing play for us. Why send him out there ? To deflate the team ?

You remembering this 2008 season ?

Next big game after we allowed 31 consecutive points to Alabama, 42 consecutive points to Florida was Georgia tek. Caleb King turned in his USUAL PERFORMANCE of 1 yard total in the game. Georgia tek scored 29 unanswered points.

Big player in big games.

Against Georgia tek, Caleb King again had both a rushing carry and a catch. 1 yard total yardage.

Every time we brought in Caleb King, he didn’t do squat.

BuLLdawg

May 16th, 2010
2:36 am

STARTING TAILBACK Caleb King.

He is our STARTING TAILBACK. Caleb King is.

He has been.

He is the returning STARTING TAILBACK.

5 games in a ROW Caleb King has been our STARTING TAILBACK.

Last year, you will recall was yet another EMBARRASSING YEAR for The Georgia Bulldogs’ Football team.

Coming off the 2008 season when we started # 1 in the AP Poll preseason, then allowed 31 consecutive points to Alabama, 42 consecutive points to Florida and 29 consecutive points to Georgia tek, we dropped to # 13 in the Final AP Poll. Disappointing. Very disappointing. One of the worst performances by our football program All-Time. Had we started the season ranked # 13 in the AP Poll, we would have dropped OUT of the Top 25 Final AP Poll.

Obviously.

One of the major reasons for this is the play or lack thereof of Caleb King.

Our Starting Tailback now, today.

We have ABSOLUTELY SUCKED in the games Caleb King has played in.

He comes into the games and does not a damn thing.

So, we start last season 2009 and Caleb King is touted, based upon his 2008 performance.

Uh hmm.

Clearing my throat.

Touted as a great running back.

Telling us how great he is.

Was in high school.

You think you are going to get drafted Caleb King ?

I haven’t seen it.

I assure you the NFL hasn’t seen it.

Washaun Ealey is listed on the Official Post-Spring Depth Chart at # 1 Tailback. Caleb King is NOT EVEN LISTED.

You know why ?

Because he is INJURED AGAIN.

Can’t play.

BuLLdawg

May 16th, 2010
2:38 am

When hasn’t Caleb King been injured ?

Go ahead, I will wait for that answer when Caleb King hasn’t been injured.

Starting Tailback as The University of Georgia.

http://www.georgiadogs.com/fls/8800/football/depth-chart/depth-chart-final.pdf?DB_OEM_ID=8800

Why would Coach Richt and Mike Bobo leave Caleb King off the Official Latest Depth Chart ?

Well, we know he missed the last 4 practices this team had.

We know he was held out of the G-Day Game.

But, we also know Caleb King has Started at Tailback each of the last 5 games now.

2009.

So, to start the 2009 season, Caleb King was wait for it now, injured.

Could not play against Oklahoma State. Loss. We could not run the football, again.

We recover and are playing at Home against LSU. Caleb King has 8 rushes for 7 yards.

8 eight rushes for 7 seven yards and we lose to LSU. Duh. Thanks a lot Caleb King.

Way to really show up in the big games.

5 big games to date. Alabama, Florida, Georgia tek 2008. Oklahoma State 2009 and now LSU at Home 2009.

You want Caleb King’s rushing totals for those 5 games ?

The 7 yards he got against LSU doubled his total.

14.

14 yards rushing by Caleb King, in the 5 Big Games of 2008 and 2009 so far to-date in this summary of Caleb King as a Running Back at UGA.

With all the hype.

Oh we are going to be so great in 2010 because Aaron Murray can rely upon Caleb King, STARTING TAILBACK, and Washaun Ealey.

So, after the LSU game, we played the vols.

Caleb King could NOT play.

Injured.

Getting the picture yet ?

Oh, sorry we got BLOWN OUT by Tennessee.

BuLLdawg

May 16th, 2010
2:38 am

Caleb King has 14 yards rushing against Vandie.

Then, we go to Florida 17-41 LOSS. Caleb King has 19 total yards against Florida catching and running.

19 yards.

That doubles his yardage to date in the 6 big games of 2008 and 2009 for our STARTING TAILBACK.

33 yards rushing in our 6 big games of 2008 and 2009 for Caleb King.

You need to get ready for this now.

This is all I am going to tell you about Caleb King and the FAVORITES that Coach Richt and Mike Bobo play on Offense.

At this point, with these 6 big games of UGA with Caleb King a grand total of 33 yards rushing…

Get ready for it now

GUESS WHO IS MADE THE STARTING TAILBACK AT UGA ?

Caleb King.

And, he has REMAINED THE STARTING TAILBACK AT UGA SINCE.

Washaun Ealey had 1 fumble and lost it and led the team in Rushing.

Caleb King had twice as many fumbles as Washaun Ealey and Caleb King lost both fumbles of his.

Did I mention we lost to a lousy 7-6 Kentucky team not ranked in the Top 25 Final AP Poll obviously at HOME with Caleb King the Starting Tailback ?

So, there you have it the sum total of Caleb King.

And, he is your RETURNING STARTING TAILBACK Aaron Murray Mike Bobo and Coach Richt are relying upon.

God help us.

Brantley is ready to be QB at Florida. Aaron Murray is NOT ready according to Coach Richt last night in Macon. He doesn’t know the playbook and needs reps.

He needed reps last year and did not get them because he came here injured, then threw his arm out then missing another 21 Fall Practices last year.

Now, this year, he hasn’t gotten the reps and the reason for that is that Coach Richt found himself held ransom by Logan Gray who has to-date in his now 4th year in this system 0 TD passes, 2 interceptions and 5 total completions. Logan Gray made Coach Richt split the reps with the # 1 offense with him and Aaron Murray.

Florida is so much a better team than UGA that it requires no response to crap you post that we will beat Florida.

You say the same thing this time every year.

BuLLdawg

I hope we don’t surprise anyone this year.

Because the only way we are going to surprise anyone will be if Aaron Murray gets injured for the 3rd time in 3 years now in a row.

Otherwise, we go through another boring 9-4 or 10-3 record in 14-game seasons nowadays.

That will keep Coach Richt his job.

I say 10-3 or 9-4.

In 14-game seasons nowadays.

I am NOT satisifed with that.

By the way, I looked up what Coach Richt said and what he said was that

“IT IS A CLOSE RACE at quarterback position. Mike Bobo and I will have to go over all 15 spring practices to determine who is # 1 at quarterback now that the G-Day Game is complete.”

That is what his actual quote is, now that he is telling us that hey 2 years ago in high school Aaron Murray was great.

Since, he certainly has NOT distanced himself from ANYONE – not according to Coach Richt after the G-Day Game.

Pete,

Funny as hell

What you know about 14-game seasons and the fact that UGA is 10-10 last 4 years in The SEC East, thereby absoutely removing UGA from the national scene and hasn’t even been to The SEC Championship Game since 2005, would fit on the head of a pin.

Yet, there you are trying to give me lessons in math.

14-game seasons nowadays.

And, UGA wins 10 games a year.

38-14 the last 4 years.

Idiot.

We don’t play 14 games because The SEC East OWNS us.

Sooooo many Tech fans worried about Murray being our QB.

Go wake ol’ Al from his coma, grease up his Rascal, give him an Ensure, and tell him he better hit the recruiting trail and get some players or that mudhole that UGA stomped in the middle of Grant’s Tomb at Bubba Dodd stadium is going to get worse and no amount of free hot dogs are going to fill it up.

Sorry but he couldn’t even get a start after the crap start with Cox. He would have played last year if he was really a stud. A freshman qb that hasn’t played in 2 years and who was passed over by Joe Cox is going to struggle big time. It’s going to be even harder playing against teams in the best conference. I wish the kid luck but it’s not going to be a good year. There’s a reason why uga is recruiting so many qb’s.

I can’t believe we have a head coach telling us to watch high school tape. Seriously? High school? We could say that about any prospect. What a joke! It’s time for a new HC in Athens. Richt’s time has ended. Bring in Chris Peterson from Boise St.

Murray's the starter

May 16th, 2010
10:22 am

Murray’s the starter, so get over it and get behind him. If he’s not all that everyone thinks he is, then sit him down. He has a QB mentality and I guarantee, that if he isn’t the starter, then you won’t have to worry about him next year in Athens.
Gee, I wonder if Murray ever has second thoughts about not going to UCLA and having a chance to work with Norman Chow.
UCLA wanted him bad, and this from a guy who developed Jim McMahon, Steve Young, Ty Detmer, Philip Rivers, Carson Palmer, Matt Leinart, Robbie Bosco, and he even prepared a QB that couldn’t even start at USC into an NFL caliber QB in Matt Cassel.
Murray may bomb, but I like to think that “real football people” saw something that they wanted real bad, and UGA won the prize.

How much would Ealy gain behind those guys as opposed to ben jones , chris davis etc. Kiante Tripp and Bean Anderson should have signed with Florida. They would be first round draft picks. As it stands, Gillisee will run for 200yds plus aginst ga.

They were holding Murray back, purposely feeding plays to Mett that would make him look good(I don’t think at this time they knew he would be gone), and not make the young and somewhat overwhelmed defense look bad. Tech, dating back to Dodd’s last year in 66 or 67, has gone through enough football coaches to average a new one every 3.5 years. Some of them won big, others did fairly well, given Tech’s circumstances and many were simply run off. THEY ALL left every 3.5 years on average, dating back to Dodd.

CPJ is in his 3rd year ………….Tech fans, he will either be gone by end of next year for a better program ( like Bowling Green or Furman or Millsaps College or Rice ) or he will be fired. His middle school offense is ok when seen infrequently. With good ACC caoches around, with even better ACC D coaches ………..tech will win 6 or 7 per year and end up in the Independence or the Music City Bowl on a frequent basis. Boise Blue Carpet Bowl is there too.

ACC’s second place team now goes to the Independence, as The Gator Bowl has dumped the ACC’s automatic second place team berth. See FSU there in 09. Something for y’all to chew on.

UGA on the other hand, averages in the same period a new coach every 10 years. Hmm. That might suggest a stable UGA program and in a MUCH TOUGHER, BIG BOY CONFERENCE.

Coach Richt has been reading a lot of blogs.

He has proved it repeatedly.

Recall, he said to us all last year that we fans don’t know what we are talking about.

Remember that ?

Now, he is telling us to watch tapes from 2 years ago on Aaron Murray because why ?

Because Coach Richt himself said just after the G-Day Game that in his opinion, it was

” VERY CLOSE between all the Quarterbacks ”

” Mike Bobo and I will have to go back and look at all 15 spring practices ”

” Only then could Mike Bobo and I say who might be the # 1 QB ”

Now, of course, he LIES that Aaron Murray was the run-away winner anyway.

Yeah, right Coach Richt.

One, two, free, fo, fi, them der Gator don’t take no jive!

What I find odd is that this was allowed to go on so long. As the great Harry Hogge stated in Day’s of Thunder to Tim Deland – “Two race teams is one too many!” There was no way Met had improved to the point that he was ahead of Murray, let alone Gray. Now that’s not saying that Met wouldn’t have some where down the road, but Murray was in front, as CMR recently admitted.
I have a small issue with a coach that worries so much about player’s feelings. Hey, it’s time for people to grow up and get prepared for the real world. This coddling of immature behavior is what has this team where it is today. Make examples of some of these problem players and the whole attitude will change, and guess what you’ll start getting a better quality of player. Let the recruits with attitudes by-pass UGA and go play for some coach who condones bad behavior. A team should function as a team and not a group of individuals with their own goals at the forefront.
It starts at the top!

Richt is obviously listening to the naysayers and critics within Poodle Nation — in sports we call that Rabbit Ears. The folk who are going to watch tapes are the Gator DEs and LBs who will notice that Murray’s delivery goes forward to make him the equivalent of a 5′8 QB. What the tapes show is whole lot of tipped and blocked passes by the Gator DEs, including two of them who were FIRST TEAM AA and will be well into the Gator defense by the time early November rolls around. AJ may be the best WR in nation, but also the most under-utilized who will be deprived of national acclaim because of the mediocre Poodle offense.

You Dawg fans who keep repeating “30-24″ like a mantra enjoy yourselves all you want. The thing is… Tech alumni and fans have lives that don’t depend entirely on what a bunch of kids does on Saturday afternoons. College sports are fun to follow, but the biggest reason for going to college is to get an education.

UGA fans don’t seem to care about anything but football, and they don’t care if their players are enrolled in silly majors that no parents who are paying the bills would send their kids to UGA for. The very few football and basketball players who graduate have no job opportunities and end up unemployed or working in menial jobs that hardly require a college degree.

Georgia Tech is a real school with serious academic standards, and that includes scholarshipped athletes. UGA has a long history of being a party school, where parents send their kids for an easy degree, even if the degree itself is practically worthless.

Jan Kemp exposed the crap going on at UGA with athletes being enrolled in courses a ten-year-old kid could pass. That was almost three decades ago, and nothing has changed. If anything, the abuses are more blatant today. Way too many illiterate morons are being recruited, and the very high arrest rate shows clearly that Richt does not care if his players have any morals or self-discipline.

The bottom line is that most Tech fans have very good jobs and productive lives that don’t depend on Tech’s football record for their happiness in life. It would be great to beat UGA more often, but when you put scholar-athletes up against dummy-athletes, it’s usually no contest.

It’s pretty pathetic to see UGA fans who typically have never been within miles of a college classroom and who live or die with UGA’s weekly results on the football field.

So keep on posting your “30-24″ all you want, especially since you’re home with plenty of time on your hands. I wish you well, maybe you’ll get lucky and get your old job back at the Waffle House before your unemployment checks stop coming.

The bottom line from somebody close to the program at tech…me, Paul…LMMFAO…

UGAg beats us just about every year..even when they had a down year and we had our best year. ..and yet, we want to deflect and say they don’t develop talent because they don’t win the SEC conference, a much stronger conference, every year? Folks, let’s occasionally take off our yellow tinted glasses once and while and call it like its. UGAg dominates us and to make us feel better about that, we have to say, well you, uh, don’t develop talent, or win a national championship. I mean, who really cares about what UGAg does or doesn’t do beyond our game? However, I’m scratching my head as to why we’re not doing better in this early period post an ACC championship. I contribute that to two reasons. 1) People know the ACC is simply not as strong a conference (we lose to UGAg, Clemson loses to SC where both SEC teams struggled last year..and that’s our conference’s crowning glory?). Plus, the Orange Bowl hurt. We were exposed big time on national television. On the flip side, we lost several good and key players to the NFL this year opening slots. So, that has to be attractive to a recruit. Those players were Gailey’s recruits, though. Let’s see what PJ does with his.

I understand the comments about how UGA has been surpassed by Florida and Bama…that’s pretty obvious. I’m less sure how people consistently write that they’ve been surpassed by LSU.

Since 2005 UGA had annihilated LSU 3 straight times before the 2009 game, and LSU had to score in the final minute to win that one. Yes, the Tigers won national titles in ‘03 & ‘07, but overall they have not “surpassed” UGA by any means. Since Nick Saban left I would argue that the Dawgs have been slightly better than LSU, including the 2007 season.

One thing Colt McCoy was an expert on is that he knew what school he supported and not ashamed to admit it like Delusional. Ashamed of your own college team, and obsessed with somebody else’s……… Very fitting name.

Teresa wasn’t your name Tom last year… that sex change hasn’t done much for you. To refresh your memory (altered by your hormone imbalance) Murray received scholarship offers from Bama, LSU, Florida, Notre Dame, Penn State, Ohio State, Tennessee, etc., etc, etc., – if he is so talent challenged I guess everyone is wrong but you girlie boy!

Yeah, and Richt told us all last spring about how much faith everyone had in Joe Cox. I think Aaron Murray is going to do fine…but he should NOT have been awarded the “starting QB” position yet…that shouldn’t have happened till next Fall, even if we KNEW it. And Mark Richt should shut his damn mouth. Just like last year with Joe Cox, it sounds too much like “whistling past the graveyard”.

Note:
Murray is a red-shirt freshman and still comes in #55 on this list.

Aaron Murray is number 58 on that list. There are 26 quarterbacks listed AHEAD of Aaron Murray.

AJ Green is on the list.

So, too, are 8 Alabama players

7 Florida players

QB for Arkansas our opponent this year, Ryan Mallett is listed # 1

I will tell you this that if he goes into Columbia in week 2 at night and loses, Coach Richt will have a

LOSING RECORD the last 5 years at 10-11 vs SEC East.

How’s that ?

The worst QB Rating in the NFL.

Knowshon Moreno, pick # 12 in the first round by a poor Denver NFL team, dealt with a very bad offensive line and rushed for 947 yards with 4 fumbles the same number of fumbles that Beanie Wells had.

213 yards receiving on 28 catches for Knowshon Moreno.

247 carries is not a lot of carries for a team who isn’t very good. That is half the total of carries a featured back might get and at least 5 carries a game fewer than he should have had.

Knowshon Moreno certainly put a great block on Keith Brooking, and there were several other outstanding blocks Knowshon Moreno highlighted his opening season in NFL games.

22 years old, Knowshon Moreno, to me, plays on a poor team with no offensive linemen, a questionable quarterback, and in a poor offensive scheme who should have handed him the ball more and should have also thrown to him more as well.

Tim Tebow, now of course, they took too. That was this season. So, maybe Tim Tebow can be put in there to block for Knowshon Moreno. That would work out very well, since that is the position I see Tim Tebow being anyway.

Knowshon gets the most yards after contact of any running back. Getting him free is what Denver’s problem is.

Here are some of the total number of running plays where Kyle Orton handed the ball off to Knowshon Moreno.

8 carries
10 carries
5 carries
10 carries
9 carries

That is 5 games where Knowshon averaged only 8 caries a game.

They threw to him less than twice a game.

Why take a player with the pick # 12 overall and not even make him the featured back ?

Those are certainly not featured back touches he was given.

I hate to bust the bubble of expectations…but seems like we heard the same thing about Joe Cox and how great he was in HS. Earth to UGA….doesnt matter how great the kid was in HS….it hasnt translated to college for most of our QBs….Stafford (ok, all about himself), Joe Cox…..David Greene wasnt that “great” in hs but look what he did for us……nuff said.

Murray will lose the job as starter at or before halftime in the second game.

He’s not very good. Richt’s smokescreen is obscuring the fact that he is too slow to run and too inaccurate to pass. Gray or Mason will be the UGA QB this year unless they both get arrested and suspended, which is a very real possibility.

I’m getting sick and tired of Richt and all you guys slobbering over Aaron “Michael Jackson” Murray. CMR stated he is an accurate passer, and in the G-Day game they really didn’t throw very many high percentage passes. Bull. The passes to A.J. Green weren’t low percentage passes. The first was a normal down and out, 2nd was a deeper same route and the 3rd was a post route that Green was open by 10/15 yards from anyone and Murray threw it 10 yards over his head. He couldn’t hit his butt with both hands much less be claimed an “accurate passer”. CMR says go watch his high school videos. Give me a break. He is not in high school anymore, he’s in D-1 and right now hasn’t showed the public anything. He is only an average quarterback.

GA–a second tier SEC program—very simple. It’s Bama — Florida, then the next tier, then a third tier. Ga needs to change their coaching and recruiting style to compete with the big dogs.

2010: Ga loses 4 games—but maybe richt can come up with some neat motivational trick to get the team “fired up” like a blackout or an endzone taunting dance!!! He’s a master, you know.

Murray finished the 3 spring games with a 58% accuracy, same as Alabama’s McElroy, and Florida’s Brantley, over their 3 Spring games. If Murray can keep hanging with Alabama, Georgia will be fine.

I’m more interested in td to int ratio than passing accuracy–who cares if you’re 65% accurate, but the other 35% ends up with 17 int’s? In High School, Murray had a 7+ td to int ratio, 51 td’s, 7 int’s. If he can get a 4+ td to int ratio, for example, 16 tds, and 4 int’s, Georgia will have a great year. If he starts throwing too many int’s, look for Hutson Mason to win the job–Mason is more accurate than Murray–completed 73% of his passes his Senior year in High School, AND Mason had a 5+ td to int ratio. By the Florida game, Georgia will have a very capable and efficient QB with a strong td to int ratio. Logan Gray is another potential starter at QB. Georgia has 3 solid guys, 2 Elite 11 QB’s and a Parade All-American, and Georgia just needs 1 out of 3 to turn into something special.

David

May 17th, 2010

Richt is weak at risk management–too many offensive giveaways, too many penalities, too many risks. He either doesn’t have a risk management plan, or his plans don’t work. You should NEVER allow a QB to CONTINUE playing QB, when that QB shows disregard for risk. Joe Cox like risk-taking was Georgia’s downfall, and what worries fans, is Murray threw more int’s per passes ratio than Joe Cox, and Murray threw more int’s than td’s over the 3 Spring scrimmages. I’m not sure what kind of message that sends to the other QB’s, when the QB with the WORST td to int ratio over the 3 Spring games, gets named the #1 starter.

Did you ever look up Matt Staffords Td-int ratio???? Particualrly early in his career. Hell, he was 0-3 in his first game. And are you seriously trying to extrapolate what a QB career is going to be like in partial scrimmage games.

I think the coaches look at just a tad more than one stat in a small percentages of practises. PLus what you keep harping on is passing stats. Nothing Murray did in spring cannot be improved with time and teaching.

We pass less than half the time. I am more concerned as to which guy can read the defense and call the correct no-pass play.

It’s also very easy to say “should have pulled Cox” when you don’t have to actually run a football program or deal with the fall out from what would ahve surely been an even worse option. Where exactly in the year would you have pulled the starter and put in a (soon to be)converted WR to finish it out?
