As you know, NCAA rules don’t permit coaches to talk publicly about specific recruits. But speaking in generalities, Mark Richt made it clear to a Bulldog Club gathering in Macon that he thinks things are going very well on the recruiting trail for Georgia this spring.
“I think we’ve got a tremendous class started,” Richt said. “I think we have a tremendous amount of interest from the best players in this state and a lot of great players around this country, mostly Southeast but a few guys a little bit further away.
“And there are a lot of guys that I think are close to pulling the trigger for Georgia. So the recruiting front looks outstanding.”
He said he’s impressed with the recruiting work of his three new defensive coaches.
“One thing I like about Coach [Todd] Grantham and the new staff,” Richt said, “is I think they’ve done a great job of knowing exactly what they want by position and are able to look at that film and . . . make a decision: Should we or should we not [offer]?”
Two in-state players being recruited by Georgia for its 2011 signing class, East Hall DE/OLB Sterling Bailey and Mitchell County WR Justin Scott-Wesley, plan to announce their college choices Friday night and Saturday, respectively. The AJC’s Chip Towers will be on hand for both announcements. FRIDAY NIGHT UPDATE: Bailey committed to Georgia. Chip’s report is here.

I for one am sick of the hot seat BS. Only the AD, school prez, and about the top 5% of doners can put a coach on the hot seat – and let me tell you, that’s not happening. ESPN, this blog, and radio can’t do it -period. Good job coach! Keep up the good work.

The real proof will be next year. UGA needs to play great this year and get back the swagger they had 00′-05′. Impress some kids this year, on the field, and the players will come hereafter.

Apparently to gt4ever, close but no cigar is good enough. Sounds like you’re ok in the fact that Mark Richt has NEVER lost against GT on the road, and only once in the last decade at home. Sure, some of those wins were close games, but don’t forget the 51+ beatdown. Not all the games were that close, and CMR’s single loss to GT was by a field goal. I hope Mark Richt stays at UGA for a very long time too.

Curiously, in a supposed anti-incumbent year, most of the departing are not retiring but seeking higher office. We may recycle more than we replace. The bad news is that a frustrating 114 seats still have but one contestant. Two of them aren’t even incumbents, meaning they will affect state policy without being vetted by voters. And I have to think that we’d be better off if many had run instead for the Legislature — and cut down on the number running unopposed. Georgia’s problems are numerous. They aren’t going away. There’s too much stale thinking at the Capitol, on both sides of the aisle. New voices would be welcome.

Georgia seems to get a top 10 recruiting class almost every year. The talent has been there. But things are getting worse.
The perplexing part is seeing things continue to happen: penalities, turnovers, losing to Florida, starting a brand new QB each season, etc. Richt doesn’t know what’s causing these problems to keep happening and his remedies don’t work. Georgia has 3 years in a row of decline as far as wins go. Last year’s recruiting class was the lowest ranked for Georgia in years. Georgia did not finish in the top 25 rankings for college football in the polls for the first time in a long time with the 7-5 season.

As a casual observer to the UGA program, it appears that Richt has got the message and taken control of the program instead of being the delegator that his daddy Saint Bobby became. When you get paid over 3mil per you need to earn it and the last couple of years he has been asleep at the wheel. Last year was a rebuilding year but the year with Stafford and Mareno was his worst coaching job. He should have won the east and played for the SEC Championship.

good comments by ga gator and true dawg, we need some respect on some of these blogs, but unfortunately some of the gator fans and also dawg fans don’t choose to play that way..As far as Techsters bashing the dawgs record, you might want to wait a few years before playing that card when and if you have a record against us as the gators do right now…You definately have no room to talk about your record against coach Richt…As i said, and it hurts to say it, the gators are the only program that can actually say they have our number right now…

Same old stuff from poodle fans. Either they want to talk about the past when it comes to the UF dominance during this generation, OR they want to talk about a future that always looks rosy and a time when they end the Gator dominance. Now, it is Tebow gone that will make the difference. Two years from now, it will be Brantley gone and the pups finally will show some respectable football in Jax.
The past (very distant past) and the future (very removed future) always are more appetizing to the poodle whose main task in life if to find a post upon which to take a whiz.

Yeah. I am more than slightly amused at UGA fans who keep bringing up the overall Florida record as though it really means anything by todays standards. It says NOTHING about where the program is today…in a state of decline. You have to go back over 70 YEARS for UGA to begin to have that record advantage. That’s almost 4 generations and prior to WW II. Nobody even knew who Hitler was. There wasn’t even a jet to hop on and fly to Jacksonville. Computers were science fiction. I am not surprised that recruits are again looking at Georgia, because Richt got rid of that imposter disguised as a Defensive Coordinator. It is good to also hear that they are looking for specific types for the different position. It surprises me though that CMR seems surprised or excited about what they are now doing, which begs to inquire on what basis were scholarships offered in past years. With all been said I have now decided to no longer get excited about recruiting, as many 4 and 5 star recruits never live up to the hype.

LOL another top recruiting season for Georgia as rated by the impartial AJC followed by more seasons of subpar playing. Georgia will always be known regionally with loyal following and nationally as a team that usually underperforms. Occiasionally will will a SEC crown but usually midpack in the SEC. Not known for playing a tough out of conference schedule like Bama, LSU, Fla and Tenn.

Now that we’re officially in the off-season, wouldn’t this be the perfect time to take an in-depth look at UGA and have a free-ranging discussion about the problems at UGA and why the arrest rate of players is the highest in the country? it’s common knowledge that UGA is a party school, but have any football players every actually graduated with a real degree? Jan Kemp exposed the school and the coaches almost three decades ago, but there is no sign that anything has improved; if anything, the arrest rate shows that things are getting more outrageous every year while Mark Richt – a decent fellow with minimal coaching skills – has no clue what to do.
UGA has become a major embarrassment to all Georgians, and we want some answers starting now.

The Poodle advantage in the series is now largely the result of winds during WWII by the pups. Gators were off saving the world from Hitler, and draft-dodging poodles were back home playing football, e.g. there greatest RB ever before Herschel. Guys were dying for their nation while he was chalking up yards to win a Heisman. Poodles should eliminate the wins by draft dodgers during WWII.

I’m not just a west coast hawks fan. I’m a west coast dawg fan. I keep telling my univ. of washington and fresno st. univ. friends that the real bulldogs reside in the SEC! I will now give my opinion on one of the things uga should do to be successful this year. Mike Bobo should use Branden Smith the same way Urban Meyer used Percy Harvin. This guy has blazing speed! Think of all the different ways he can be utilized on offense. I know he is being used in the defensive secondary but I think he should be used solely on offense. I’m not sure if the dawgs lack depth in the secondary or not but if they are able to get by without Branden then he should only play offense. All you have to do is take a look back at that run he had against South Carolina last year. Now imagine him getting about 15 touches a game! The possibilities are endless!! He would open up everything for the offense in addition to having a great rb tandem in Ealey and King. Just a thought. GO DAWGS!!!!
