Richt thinks a lot of recruits ‘are close to pulling the trigger for Georgia’

As you know, NCAA rules don’t permit coaches to talk publicly about specific recruits. But speaking in generalities, Mark Richt made it clear to a Bulldog Club gathering in Macon that he thinks things are going very well on the recruiting trail for Georgia this spring.

“I think we’ve got a tremendous class started,” Richt said. “I think we have a tremendous amount of interest from the best players in this state and a lot of great players around this country, mostly Southeast but a few guys a little bit further away.

“And there are a lot of guys that I think are close to pulling the trigger for Georgia. So the recruiting front looks outstanding.”

He said he’s impressed with the recruiting work of his three new defensive coaches.

“One thing I like about Coach [Todd] Grantham and the new staff,” Richt said, “is I think they’ve done a great job of knowing exactly what they want by position and are able to look at that film and . . . make a decision: Should we or should we not [offer]?”

Two in-state players being recruited by Georgia for its 2011 signing class, East Hall DE/OLB  Sterling Bailey and Mitchell County WR Justin Scott-Wesley, plan to announce their college choices Friday night and Saturday, respectively. The AJC’s Chip Towers will be on hand for both announcements. FRIDAY NIGHT UPDATE: Bailey committed to Georgia.  Chip’s report is here.

Georgia seems to get a top 10 recruiting class almost every year. The talent has been there. But things are getting worse.

The perplexing part is seeing things continue to happen: penalities, turnovers, losing to Florida, starting a brand new QB each season, etc. Richt doesn’t know what’s causing these problems to keep happening and his remedies don’t work. Georgia has 3 years in a row of decline as far as wins go. Last year’s recruiting class was the lowest ranked for Georgia in years. Georgia did not finish in the top 25 rankings for college football in the polls for the first time in a long time with the 7-5 season.

Paul Johnson did a number on Dywer. Great RB to overweight late round draftee. He will have a good pro career, but with no thanks owed to CPJ. Focus on that garbage pile you call a Head Coach. And pray you all never have to join the SEC..

GOOD, sign all those 5 stars again and then lose to GT 45-42 in Athens like when you had No show Moreno and Stafford. Yeah, the recruits are pulling the trigger all right but the bullets are facing Richt’s way so he better hide out in the tanning salon..

THE SEC is in some need of a serious face lift. God how some of your teams need to get the boot out of there. But then who would UGAY have to beat up on and then brag about how great they are.

In 2 short years Coach Johnson has fried 3 of the big fish on his plate: a victory over UGaG, an ACC Championship, and earning a spot in a BCS bowl.

This year expect bigger & brighter things as Al Groh improves the defense and look for the Jackets to win a bowl game, possibly the MNC and if so Nesbitt the Heisman.

GT4ever,

Paul Johnson is not undefeated at Sanford Stadium. He coached Georgia Southern. Also an Arse stomping is not 45-42 or 30-24. An arse stomping is 51-7, look it up.

Do you feel bigger when you come on here and bad mouth UGA? I’ll bet your afraid to have a real conversation with someone face to face aren’t you. Use all that frustration you have built up to dominate in World of Warcraft.

45-42 don’t sound like Stafford and Moreno’s fault. By the way, most of those 45 points have fled the crime zone and left early for the NFL. And your “better” defensive players that allowed the 42….they’re gone too.

Using the words “Georgia Tech” in the same conversation as a national title or Heisman this year, now THAT’s funny!

Lest you forget you lost the 5 best players on your team. Remind me how many receptions Stephen Hill had last year? LMAO!

As a casual observer to the UGA program, it appears that Richt has got the message and taken control of the program instead of being the delegator that his daddy Saint Bobby became. When you get paid over 3mil per you need to earn it and the last couple of years he has been asleep at the wheel. Last year was a rebuilding year but the year with Stafford and Mareno was his worst coaching job. He should have won the east and played for the SEC Championship.

Guys, you have to remember, Georgia Tech plays in a panzy, loser conference in the ACC…where recruiting, attendance and national Championships don’t matter.

If Tech ever ventured to the SEC, they might have 1 in 10 years with more than 6 wins.

radar – not even close. Richt is fine. UGA is fine. Thanks for your concern. This will be his 10th year in Athens. He is 48-19 vs. the SEC. Find me a stretch in the last 9 years were GT has been that good (.716 win %). And thats against toughest division of the toughest conference in the land. 2-1 SEC championships. 8-1 against the wreck. You have no legs to stand on in this blog. Not b/c you are a techie; no, you have no business posting your illogical rants about the state of your or our football team b/c you obviously know nothing about football or reality for that matter.

Pulling the trigger now means nothing; it’s like shooting blanks. Pulling the trigger on Natl signing day is what counts. Richt is sayin this crap is trying to make kids think he has a great class coming in. If Murray is as good as advertised, ME LEMAY will go somewhere else.

Radar, the SEC needs a face-lift? You guys are funny. How many NC’s has the ACC won lately. Oh, thats right, you can only beat each other. But, I guess you did beat UGA one time in the last decade, and maybe one day, you will win another bowl game. I guess, if I didn’t have any more to cheer about than you do, I would maybe go to another blog and brag. They call that “little man syndrome” don’t they?
