Georgia-Florida contract still in works

More than seven months after the decision was made to keep the Georgia-Florida football game in Jacksonville through 2016, a new contract still isn’t signed.

But it will get done, probably this summer, according to Georgia executive associate athletics director Frank Crumley.

“We’re moving along very nicely,” he said. “We’ve got every hurdle worked out and are coming up with a [contract] draft to distribute to all parties.”

He said the delay was caused by making the three-way contract more comprehensive than in the past and dealing with “some very small issues … in the scheme of things.”

There’s been no big hurry since this year’s Georgia-Florida game is covered by the previous contract. The major components of the new deal -– length (six years) and economics –- are unchanged from what was reported last fall, Crumley said. As previously reported, Jacksonville will pay for the Georgia team to fly directly from Athens, and back.

———

This is the time of year that the NCAA typically releases its Academic Performance Rate (APR) statistics –- a measure that can result in loss of scholarships for programs that are under-performing academically.

I checked with the NCAA and was told this year’s release date isn’t set yet, but will be within the next month or so.

———

Georgia’s brutal baseball season is winding down. There’s a game tonight at Foley Field against Georgia State, then SEC series at Florida this weekend and vs. Kentucky in Athens next week.

Georgia enters tonight’s game with a 13-33 record (3-19 SEC) and an 8.80 staff ERA. The Bulldogs have lost their past four games, eight of their past 10 and 17 of their past 20.

Georgia State will bring a 29-18-1 record and a .367 team batting average to Athens tonight. The Panthers have scored an average of 11.3 runs per game this season.

The many, many thousands of fans that travel to Jax each year want the game to remain in Jacksonville. I am one of them. The largest Bulldog Club in the country is in Jacksonville and this is why Vince Dooley retired at the Gator Bowl. There is plenty of support. Florida has more experience playing in Atlanta than Georgia does, so no advantage. Florida fans travel well.

Let’s move the Tech game to the first of the year, not the last and play it as the Chick-fil-A season opener each year. The game would have more meaning, be an even greater rivalry, have national TV interest (as opposed to some cupcake that may not be televised at all), will stop other out of state teams from using this game as a venue to steal our in-state players, and will not knock Tech or Georgia out of a BCS Bowl (first game losses don’t hurt as much), thereby keeping a Georgia team in the national picture. Plus, it would just be more fun to talk about over the summer.

Maybe the UGA Athletic Association is finally getting a clue that the UGA-UF game needs to be taken out of Jacksonville. I prefer a home-and-home, but at the very LEAST it should rotate between Jacksonville and Atlanta. Playing it in Jacksonville amounts to UF getting a home game to face UGA every single season. How can that be fair?

Q:Why is it idiotic for UGA/FL to play in Jacksonville every year?
A: It’s in Florida

Simple enough answer for me. I travel to Jacksonville every year for the game and I am one of the MANY fans that think we should rotate, at minimum, Jacksonville and Atlanta. It’s simple economics: Jacksonville forks over an arm and a leg to keep it there every year.

I am a UGA grad and fan…that being said, I’m sick and tired of reading about where the location of the UGA-UF game should be. It’s a special game and it belongs in Jacksonville. It should NEVER be in Atlanta. What does Atlanta have to offer that Jacksonville doesn’t? There is less to do in Atlanta than in Jacksonville (unless there is a beach in Atlanta that I don’t know about). The only acceptable alternative to the game being in Jacksonville every year would be to rotate the game between the respective campuses. Look at the Oklahoma/Texas game if you would like a similar game. That game is in Texas every year, but it’s special and I don’t hear anything about Oklahoma wanting to move it out of Dallas. Stop whining and enjoy the game the way that it is. 1 UGA victory is all that it takes to stop the complaining. Did anyone want to move the game after the 2007 game? I didn’t think so.

I grew up in J-Ville, but went to UGA…I can certainly remember when the FLA-GA game was truly a neutral game (70-80s in particular)… back when UGA was simply more competitive…its got nothing to do with geography and everything to do with Spurrier/Mayer. Its not a home game for UF if you only get half the tickets and you lose half the games – so therein lies the real problem for UGA – keep the game (and the tradition) in JAX but WIN MORE of the games.

Mark Richt himself said Florida has an advantage with the game being in JAX due to the shorter commute (they don’t fly, the drive is the same as our drive to the airport) and warmer weather they practice in. Just because UGA has won there before doesn’t mean FL doesn’t have an advantage. Jacksonville is the armpit of Florida, the assertion that “there’s more to do” in Jacksonville than Atlanta is laughable. Give me a break.

The neutral site in Jax is what makes this game special. It’s the WLOCP. If it moves to home and home then alot of luster is this game will be lost. People get excited about going to that game and it’s something that people plan their vacations on. I don’t want to see this tradition spoiled. All we need to do is win a few of these games and everything will be fine again. There’s nothing more special than winning this game is Jax. Unfortunately, there’s nothing more disappointing than losing this game.

What most people don’t realize is that all the Jaguars premium seating ticket holders (club level and luxury suites), keep their seats for the FL-UGA game and guess what?, all are Gator fans; thus giving the Gators a feel for home field advantage. I shared a luxury suite there for a few years and was the only UGA fan!

bdawg,

I grew up in Orlando, and Atlanta has been my adopted city for about 10 years now, you could not be more right. In general Jacksonville doesnt even deserve to be mentioned in the same breath as Atlanta. One is an international city that has hosted the most prestigious sporting events in the world, is the economic engine of the region, is probably the 3rd city for the entertainment industry after LA and NYC, the top city for recent grads from anywhere in the country and a bustling metro area of nearly 6 million people with every world class accomodation that goes with it.

The other is a former regional business hub, voted the most depressed city in the country, has some of the highest violent crime rates in the WORLD, it is shunned by its own state, and its a 4th tier city at best. For those of you not from Florida you don’t realize the Jacksonville Landing is barely safe to drive by on any other weekend and locals will tell you, you just don’t go there. Any of you that have attended the Chick-fil-a kick off, SEC Championship, or Chick-fil-a bowl knows Atlanta can put on a college game as good as anywhere. That being said tradition is tradition but to say Jax is a better venue for this sort of thing than ATL just shows no knowledge of the facts. If you want to rotate it it should be Atlanta and Orlando so its two destination cities worth coming to. All you in Georgia like to complain about ATL but to the rest of the south it really is our NYC and the most cosmopolitan city in the region and I know at least in Florida they love any reason to make the drive up and spend a weekend here.

Oh and also it is general consensus in Florida that the bad reps we get, jean shorts for example, comes from the fact that the game is played in JAX and all the North Florida mouth breathers come out for it and embarrass us. Its essentially the equivalent of UGA hosting the game in Valdosta or Dalton and having every hill person come down for an excuse to drink and stare at educated people.

Jacksonville estimates the annual economic impact to be between $25 million and $30 million. Tradition is nice and all, but it doesn’t put groceries on the table. Atlanta and the state of Georgia could certainly use that revenue, at least once every four years.

Also, the OK/TX comparison doesn’t hold water. Dallas is the mid-point between Norman and Austin. Both teams have to travel just as far.

Jim,
Nobody complained about the game being in Jacksonville in the 70’s and 80’s because the sleeping giant had not been awake. UF has been a top 5 program since the 90’s and we don’t need to give them any other advantage. They are tough to beat on a “neutral” field so with the travel arrangements being vastly different for the two schools when the game is played in Jacksonville, that puts Georgia at a disadvantage. If there is no advantage for Florida playing the game in Jacksonville, then they should be more than willing to play the game in Atlanta as well.

I resent your comparison of Dalton to Valdosta. There is no way the two are similar in terms of character. Chatsworth to Valdosta would be much more appropriate. The kids from Dalton that come down to the games are more likely wearing red khakis with a white UGA polo shirt with the collar upturned. Whether that’s better than jorts is up to you. Guaranteed though that the Chatsworth kids are wearing jorts. But don’t be fooled – I lived in Gainesville for a while as well and there are PLENTY of folks wearing jorts there. Athens is way nicer. My defense of Jacksonville was apparently confiscated by the Blog Police. Let’s try this again: I grew up around ATL and have lived in JAX for five years, excepting a summer when I lived in Gainesville, FL for an exernship. Jacksonville is a great city if you want to do more than go to bars, although the beaches bars are very fun (and much cheaper than ATL). The downtown nightlife, which consist of almost entirely the Landing, is so disappointingly lame that we here in Jacksonville are ashamed of it, considering its potential. But the beaches are fun and the atmosphere is nice – definately got that beach vibe going, more likely to hear reggae than rap, walking in with board shorts, flip-flops, and a cut-off sleeve tee is perfectly acceptable, just a much more laid-back atmosphere than normal bars, which often have that posturing feel to them. But there’s lots to do other than bars in JAX: golf is supreme with the TPC Sawgrass and PGA Tour Headquarters in Ponte Vedra, the World Golf Headquarters in St. Augustine, and numerous nice golf courses around town. Also have Cumberland Island for campers and nature-lovers, along with many other parks and preserves. St. Augustine is always worth the trip: Great restaurants and nightlife, cool tour of the city. Also have great fishing. Could charter an in-shore boat for half a day for a few hundred dollars and cruise around the intracoastal marshes for redfish, flounder, and drum. Overall, its a nice city to live in, but if you just want to go to bars and get wrecked, then ATL is your better bet, with Midtown, Buckhead, VA/Highlands, and numerous other area watering holes. ATL has many nightlife scenes with distinctive personalities. JAX only has two – 5 points in Riverside (artsy/progressive) and the Beaches.

We may loose down there a lot lately, but most of us have a damn good time doing it. Last year we went to Universal for Halloween the night before and had a blast. Full day of tailgating, a quick loss, back to the beach, nice dinner, few more drinks and a local watering hole, then get up to nice breakfast and a short drive back to Altanta. Good time had by all.

I don’t ever want to see the gators in our stadium again, and god forbid we ever have to go back to that armpit they call gainsville. While it is true that Dalton has a very large Hispanic population, I wouldn’t think that they (or any other reasonable person) would be very happy with you calling it an “armpit” simply because of that fact. In all other respects, Dalton is as nice or nicer than other towns. For instance, Dalton’s per capita income is $20,575, with 16% of the population living below the poverty line, while Knoxville, TN’s is only $18,171, with 20.8% of its population living below the poverty line.

NO UGA fan should want the game to go home and home or even to Atlanta.

Better coaching has won majority of the games.

The only change to scheduling is both teams should be required to have an equal # of off weeks and conf. games before the game of a 10 year period. Dooley usually had a bye week or Cupcake before the WLOCP, UF has had the week off more often since ‘92 when UGA started playing UK in place of Temple, Tulane, Richmond etc.

I like Jacksonville, but I also like the idea of the games being played in each others stadiums. I mean I know Florida kicked our butts in 1994 and 1995 when they were really good and UGA was really bad. But I’d like to think that the outcomes to some of those game in the mid-2000’s would have been different if UGA got to play Florida in Athens and ESPECIALLY if they got to play them on the road in Gainesville. Richt’s teams always played well on the road and I think just the mentality of going into their place and beating them in front of their crowd would have propelled them to victory whereas a neutral site wouldn’t have had that same effect. I mean is the Swamp really that much more of an intimidating place than Neyland or Bryant-Denny, especially back in the mid-2000’s when the Gators were pretty average and UGA was really good?

It just seems like the Gators are a little too much in the Dawgs head at times, and who knows Jacksonville might be a part of that equation. With that being said, the Gators were able to reverse their fortunes in this series, and if they can do it, so can UGA. All I know is that the Dawgs need to get back to making this series more competitive because it isn’t a rivalry when one team wins all the time!

With the new travel contract, the playing field is more level for both teams. Florida fans do get the advantage on good seats and parking because of the Jaguar suite holders and club seats. It is usually a shorter drive for the Florida fan since the majority of Geoargia fans that actually go to games live in the Atlanta area. The state of Georgia doesn’t benefit as much from the tax dollars generated by the game, even though there are now some great places to stay in the GA Golden Isles area. The new contract makes things better, but the state of FL and the FL fans still get the best deal as long as the game is in Jacksonville.

Now that we’re officially in the off-season, wouldn’t this be the perfect time to take an in-depth look at UGA and have a free-ranging discussion about the problems at UGA and why the arrest rate of players is the highest in the country? it’s common knowledge that UGA is a party school, but have any football players every actually graduated with a real degree? Jan Kemp exposed the school and the coaches almost three decades ago, but there is no sign that anything has improved; if anything, the arrest rate shows that things are getting more outrageous every year while Mark Richt – a decent fellow with no coaching skills – has no clue what to do.

UGA has become a major embarrassment to all Georgians, and we want some answers starting now.

UGA turns violators over to the local police for prosecution. Is this the policy of other schools?

Alabama just recently in the last 2 yrs under the Richt era
and…………………..

UF we play every year and lose to
LSU and AL we alternate with Ole Miss and Miss State like we do for the next 2 years

so every 2 years Richt should have 10 or 11 easy wins and every two years 9 wins

Because Tenn, SC, Arkansas, GT, Vanderbilt, Kentucky, Ole Miss, Miss State, and the 2 cream puffs we add etc have not been that tough in the Richt era

Does that help you, Can you figure it out now?

The original debate was about the contract on the site of GA-FLA game, not coaching abilities. However, you are all correct in bringing up advantage points for the teams playing locations. It DOES matter. Maybe for us GA fans we love the idea of big games being played in Athens, who doesnt?? As fairness to the schedule and east-west alternates, games have to be played at both locations for each team. We never play Vandy in Knoxville, or vice versa, but it would still be a loaded site for fans of the state of Tenn. Hence, regardless of fan base of UGA or Gatas in Jax, it sorta makes sense. Yes, the game should be played in Atl or Athens, but it seems that money waives to logic, in most cases, as this one. The debate goes on…

You wimpy dawg fans who want to change the location deep down think we will somehow win because of location advantage.

Remember whimps there are just as many FL fans as UGA fans at the game theres no advantage

The game has its tradition down their since the 30’s as well. Why change tradition because some of our whining whimpy fans want to move it to home and home or Jax and ATL thinking we will win.

That same mentality has already been tried with those awful uniforms with the result of our teeth getting knocked out.

As far as “learning to beat Florida”, what does that even mean? learn to build a better team? learn to outscore your opponent? I think thats a pretty good lesson always isn’t it?

Clearly winning in 04′,07′ they don’t have to learn how. They need to show up with a better team. If somebody could write a book about “learning” to beat a better team, it would surely be on the NYT best sellers list. I’d say a good place to start with is with learning to catch the ball, and run the ball, and stop the other guys from doing that.

I prefer to spin it as: only one team in the nation beat Tebow more than UGA did in his career.

Mark then told Weinke to go have a Pro Baseball players arm so I can use you as a 26 yr. old QB. Mark is GOD in the QB coaching world. Mark R has all the same stuff, just not the same edge to get to the SEC championship it seems. The venue is, and shouldnt be a factor in winning the game. It shouldnt but does usally decide who goes on to the bigger game, Sugar, SEC champ, or even BCS, lately. The Dawgs have the intimidation factor influence. Against SEC East teams, is Coach Perno without a winning record over say the last 4 years, as is Coach Richt ?

Over a 4-year stretch, has Coach Perno fumbled 21 times per year on the average 4 years in a row, has he failed to prepare a QB in 2006, 2009 and now again in 2010, has he had his Quarterbacks throw 14 interceptions a year every year 4 years in a row as has Coach Richt, has Coach Perno had 39 Arrested / Suspended in just the last 3 years off the field according to David Hale of macon.com as has Coach Richt, has Coach Perno averaged # 96 NCAA in Penalties every year for the last 4 years as has Coach Richt on the field, has Coach Perno Graduated his Baseball Players at a rate 9th in The SEC as has Coach Richt in Football, has Coach Perno gone 1-3 the last 4 years to both Florida and 1-3 to the vols the last 4 years, 2-2 to Kentucky the last 4 years and lost for good measure to both South Carolina and Vandie the last 4 years as has Coach Richt at just 10-10 vs SEC East alone the last 4 years, has Coach Perno played 11 games vs Top 10 Final AP Poll teams and lost 8 as has Coach Richt, was the last time UGA was relevant with Coach Perno even in our own Division of our own Conference let alone on the National Stage 2005 as has Coach Richt ?

This is 2010. In 14-game seasons now, we average 10 wins 3 losses 90-27 with not 1 win over a Top 10 Final AP Poll team in any bowl game the entire Coach Richt Era.

I believe if Coach Perno in Baseball at UGA compiled such a list, especially the last 4 years, but in the entirety of the Coach Richt Era as has Coach Richt with such a sorry baseball coaching staff as has Coach Richt in Football with a seriously sorry Coaching Staff in Football the entire 9 Years of the Coach Richt Era, that yes David Perno would be on the hot seat, as is Coach Richt.

We go to South Carolina at night with 2 freshmen Quarterbacks and that is it except for a 4th Year Player who has amassed now a grand total of 2 interceptions, 5 completions, and none 0 touchdown passes; and, if we lose that game we have a LOSING RECORD to The SEC East the last 5 years.

Did David Perno Redshirt Knowshon Moreno so we only got to see him only 2 years ?

BuLLdawg

May 12th, 2010
4:05 am

Did David Perno rip the Redshirt off the # 11 best running back recruit in the nation last year, in the 3rd quarter of the 5th game, only to watch him lead the team in Rushing anyway, only to give him but only 2 Starts and they not even the last 2 games ?

Did David Perno make the Quarterbacks’ Coach at Jacksonville State, for 1 years, the Offensive Coordinator at UGA ? Did David Perno make a Quarterback, the Tight Ends coach at UGA ? Did David Perno make a great running back into our Wide Receivers’ Coach ? Did David Perno make a former wide receiver at UGA our Running Backs’ Coach ? Did David Perno say in the newspapers 2 weeks ago, that he is taking over the entire Offensive Coaching, demoting all these coaches on his coaching staff still ?

Did our Wide Receivers’ Coach get credit for teaching AJ Green, but could only throw 2 footballs all season long to Marlon Brown and for good measure only 2 passes too to Branden Smith all season long last year ?

Did our Tight Ends Coach not make Orson Charles the Starter last year until game 12 of our 13-game season, in 14-game seasons nowadays ?

Did our Running Backs’ Coach fail to establish the run against any half-way reasonable run defense last year ?

Have we lost 10 of the last 20 SEC East Games in Baseball, as we have in football the last 4 years and half of those losses 5 of them to SEC East teams not even ranked in the Top 25 of the Final AP Poll.

Has David Perno Lost 8 games in 9 Years now of the Coach Richt Era to teams not ranked in the Top 25 of the Final AP Poll, as has Coach Richt.

10-win seasons in 14-game seasons nowadays is certainly not relevant on the national stage.

We failed to recruit in this 2010 Recruiting Class of Coach Richt the top Offensive Players in this state of Georgia, when this state of Georgia has the most players of any state playing today in The Entire SEC. Clearly the offensive all-stars in this state made a clear and concise statement to Coach Richt whom I love about his Offensive Coaching Staff and their utter failure over the last 4 years in a row.

BuLLdawg

May 12th, 2010

How in the world could we be 1-3 vs the vols the last 4 years when the last 4 years, those are 4 of the worst vols’ teams of all-time. We lost to Kentucky half of the last 4 years with Knowshon Moreno, Matthew Stafford and AJ Green. When we were ranked # 1 in the nation according to every poll, our entire football team went out that night and tied one on for the ages with dozens in bar brawls and drunken rages at the hospital for the beatings they took in the bars. In the 3 games we played that year, after being ranked # 1 in the nation we handed the football to Knowshon Moreno 14 times per game all 3 games and gave up consecutive points of 31 to nothing at halftime to Alabama, 42 to nothing to Florida and 29 unanswered points to Georgia tek, all 3 Losses. This is one of the last 4 years. We led the nation in Arrests / Suspensions and Graduated our football players 9th worst in football in The SEC. This is 2008 with Knowshon Moreno and Matthew Stafford. It was also AJ Green.

The year before that, also in the last 4 years, we completed THE SWEEP.

Swept, get the brooms out, EVERY SEC East Team in a ROW beat UGA.

That was 2006 and continued on into 2007 that we lost to all 5 SEC East teams in a ROW.

2006 we failed to have a QB ready and announced that Joe Tereshinski III is our Starting QB # 1 in the Depth Chart with Joe Cox # 2 and Matthew Stafford # 3. We LOST 4 games.

I believe it goes without saying that last year, again with no QB prepared, was a total and utter disaster, with 5 Losses.

Now we have no QB prepared yet again. 2006 with 4 losses, 2009 with 5 losses and now 2010.

I know Coach Richt feels the pressure on the South Carolina Game.

The last comment that Coach Richt wants to hear after the South Carolina Game, is that over the last 5 years he has a LOSING RECORD to SEC East teams.

When you cannot get out of your own division of your own conference since 2005, let alone beat a Top 10 Final AP Poll team in any bowl game all 9 years of the Coach Richt Era with 95 Arrested / Suspended in the 9 Years, with a 2-7 record against Florida and having never beat both the vols and Florida any of the 9 years, then yes if David Perno has such a record in fact, then yes he too would be on the hot seat.

Wouldn’t he ?

Yes, it is really funny Andy Coleman. I am just laughing it off, as you. We are doing just Great.

This is UGA.

In the NFL in the last 7 years, 20 of our Bulldogs have played in the Super Bowl. We lead all programs in the Most MVP Players in the Championship Game of The NFL League. Charley Trippi # 1 NFL Draft Pick of the # 1 Round won MVP of the Championship Game of The NFL. Richard Seymour in my humble opinion should have won 2 Super Bowl MVP Trophies in his 3 Super Bowl Wins. Terrell Davis is a 1-time Super Bowl MVP too in his 2 Super Bowl Wins. Hines Ward is a Super Bowl MVP as well, although before that game when he was introduced, he said he was from Forest Park; more recently on his introduction he said The University of Georgia. Jake Scott Super Bowl MVP, and a friend of mine. He is his own man. He is a good guy.

47 Pro Bowl Players from UGA since 1979, UGA has 47 Pro Bowl Players in the NFL just since 1979, a staggering total.

129 NFL Draft Picks are UGA players since 1979, including 19 First Round Picks, the vast majority of those recently, recruited here by Jim Donnan who lost 13 games his last 4 years and was fired for that. We’ve lost 14 games the last 4 years of the Coach Richt Era.

Kevin Butler is the 1st kicker in history selected to the Hall of Fame leads a long tradition of UGA Bulldogs’ kickers.

Only 2 states produce more NFL players from their high schools than the state of Georgia.

Somehow this year we whiffed in-state on Offensive Recruits. Have you interviewed any of them why ?

In Coach Richt’s first 5 Years here, he Won 2 SEC Championships.

In the last 4 years, we have sucked, especially on Offense. And, now 2010 the second 5 years feature yet again a stubborn coach hanging on dearly to a collection of offensive coaches that he himself has admitted 3 weeks ago, are not suited for the purpose for which they were hired.

Dooley on December 20, 2000 at 2 a.m. But, it is Coach Richt’s “coaching staff” of his entire 9 Year Coach Richt Era to-date that has let down Coach Richt, our fans, our players, and The University of Georgia.

I am absolutely not satisfied with 10-10 vs SEC East teams the last 4 years, facing South Carolina on the road at night to not have a losing record over the last 4 years in a row now against SEC East teams. You have to admit that the last 4 years the SEC East has been one sorry lot of football teams who collectively have offered no resistance to Florida. And, we are 10-10 against these lousy outside of Florida SEC East teams the last 4 years.

3-17 the last 2 decades today is what we have to correct. But 5 losses the last 4 years alone to just SEC East teams not ranked in the Top 25 of the Final AP Poll, and 8 Losses in the Coach Richt Era to teams not ranked in the Top 25 of the Final AP Poll and 8 more Losses in the Coach Richt Era of 9 Years now today to teams in the Top 10 of the Final AP Poll with only 3 wins over Top 10 teams in the Final AP Poll, none of those on the National Stage in a Bowl Win over a Top 10 Final AP Poll team, and well 10 wins in 14-game seasons, is not where I thought we would be after what Coach Richt did the 1st 5 years here.

This is going to be viewed as the 1st 5 years.

And, the 2nd 5 years.

With 14 seniors and 5 juniors leaving after this year, this is our year; not next year. Not with the offensive recruiting utter failure this year 2010 in this proud state.

Somehow this year we whiffed in-state on Offensive Recruits. Have you interviewed any of them why ?

i agree dallasdawg

it would be so nice for the game to be played in athens, then the city of athens would receive the $$$ for the hotels and resturaunts etc….

it is such a shame that we have a stupid tradition every year

its time to kill this stupid tradition…

and as far as the guy who said that florida will be down because they lost 4 of their best players, well florida has had the number 1 recruiting class the past 2 years where as UGA has had the number 9 recruiting class

its sad to say but florida is getting better while we are getting worse………… UGA’s recruiting class stinx,,,, sorry for being a diehard dawg, that is hard to say

Sally Ann,

If Florida wins 38-13 in a down year, then Richt should be fired at the end of the season. Period.

As for Florida’s dominance over UGA, I don’t know, I mean I guess some teams just have your number. It’s like how UGA usually beats the brakes off of LSU. Is UGA really that much better than LSU? No. But they just match up well against them.

I think the only way to get yourself out of a hole is to quit doing the dumb things that get you there in the first place. UGA has ALWAYS had success against Florida when they have been able to run the ball. Look at 1997, 2004, and 2007-UGA had monster games on the ground! Hell Ealey had 70 yards vs. Florida last year when Bobo actually gave him the ball( God he’s such a stupid redneck moron!). I say if they want to beat the Gators this year, running the ball right down their throats is a good place to start.

I’m still furious over sprurrier running up the score against UGA in 1995 in Athens—the Dawgs want revenge. They should move the game to Athens every other year—the Dawgs will beat Florida like a rented mule between the hedges–take it to the bank! In the other years, they can still play in jacksonville, where florida has all the advantages, but UGA should still get half the tickets.

From where or whom did some of you people get the lamebrained “knowledge”
that Jaguars fans with clubseats get tickets for the Game. That is absolutely untrue; if it was true the Jags would sell many more clubseats. That would be the only reason to get Jag tickets. The tickets are divided equally between the two schools. Some of you people should get your facts correct before placing
such erroneous statements on here or anywhere else. I went to my first Florida-
Georgia game in 1952; I have been to every one since 1970. As the “ole ball coach” said after the 95 game at Sanford, “nice little ballfield they have up here”.

glad you enjoy going to the beaches when you go to jacksonville, when you go there, the game should be primative, not the beaches

for 1 home game, UGA makes over $ 1 million just from the concession stands,

and UGA will never see that $$$ as long as it is played in jacksonville

THAT SUCKS

then add the money that athens loses from hotels, vendors, fast food joints etc on top of that 1 million just from the concession stand loses and then you can not tell me that its fair for UGA

play the game in athens and gainsville

Mark, its been writen about , and written about, adnaseum. Both school make a lot more money to keep the game in Jville rather than going home and home. That not even an option, never has been.

Certainly the Athen hotels and eatery profit (every other year) but you have simply taken it away from the rest of the state that gets that revenue every year. Just shifting revenue from one area of Georgia to the other.

And I highly doubt that some fans love for golf and a mini vacation is weighing heavy on the game plan. Hell, your whole argument about moving the game was just as “secondary” as going to the beaches. What does cash going to Athens fast food joints have anything to do with beating the gators either.

And BTW , isn’t it sort of odd to tell somebody to “get a life” when he pointing out that he enjoyed the trip and the experience, as well as watching the ball game? I think he is proving that he DOES have a life. Wasn’t that kind of his point?

i said the local and state economy would make money……. the fact is that athens loses money from hotels, gas, street vendors etc…. thats not to say the gas that the florida fans would have to get on their way to athens

now can you tell me that the current contract in jacksonville pays any of that????

“for 1 home game, UGA makes over $ 1 million just from the concession stands, and UGA will never see that $$$ as long as it is played in jacksonville” (which BTW is not even remotely close to accurate)

“here you go again, what school did you go to to be as stupid as you are by saying that…nowhere did i say that the schools making money………”

My bad, what were you saying then, because it semed to me that you did.
And that would be UGA ‘85. How about you?

As far as a grown up debate, (less the kill somebodies family talk) if you will pick between the actual football game, the financial ramifications, or the side activities, as a topic I would be glad to have a go at it. You seem to be mixing them all up with no particual cohesive point to make.

I also have good friends that are experts in the convention and visitors industry in BOTH Athens and the Golden Isles if you would like to have that debate.

with sanford stadium seating almost 93,000 people and each of those buys a coke and a hot dog or something else, and the average person spending 12$ at the game equals 1,116,000.00. how is that for acurate?

by the way, the hotels, street vendors etc in athens get nothing with the game being played in jacksonville…. that is what i said…… as far as the comment i made about the concessions going to the football team, most of that goes to the band, cheerleder and pep sqaud…. now can you tell me if those guys get paid from the current contract in jacksonville?

AltamahaDawg

May 13th, 2010
9:59 pm

Actually what I would consider accurate would be: $1,425,763.
That’s straight fom the UGA Athletic Association Annual report from last year under the category of concessions/novelties…………….all sports, all games combined. I think they take into consideration that hot dogs don’t appear from thin air.

I will admit I don’t know the exact earmarks for that money, but I assume that with the University actually making an additional million dollar OVER what it would to have the game in Athens every other year, they don’t shaft anybody. Certainly other charities and BullDawg booster clubs down here have an opportunity to take advantage of the opportunity once a year.

The game in Gainsville half the time aint sending no money back, thats for sure.

And YES I understand your point about the Athens hotels. I have been to Athens plenty of times and very familiar with the concept of staying in a hotel.

Jekyll replaces those room nights almost by itself. Not to mention SSI, Brunswick, St. Marys, Savanah the I-95 corridor connecting all that. AND many of those fill up mid week for the game down here. Do you see anybody checking into the Athens hotels on Tuesday for a game?

So yes, the hotel revenue do go to some other Georgia Cities besides Athens for one game a year. But MORE hotel room nights are generated in the State of Georgia by having the game in J-ville. Good move from the STATE University I’d say. I am sure the impact on the State Owned Jekyll Island is part of the considereation too.
