Georgia-Florida contract still in works

More than seven months after the decision was made to keep the Georgia-Florida football game in Jacksonville through 2016, a new contract still isn’t signed.

But it will get done, probably this summer, according to Georgia executive associate athletics director Frank Crumley.

“We’re moving along very nicely,” he said. “We’ve got every hurdle worked out and are coming up with a [contract] draft to distribute to all parties.”

He said the delay was caused by making the three-way contract more comprehensive than in the past and dealing with “some very small issues … in the scheme of things.”

There’s been no big hurry since this year’s Georgia-Florida game is covered by the previous contract. The major components of the new deal -– length (six years) and economics –- are unchanged from what was reported last fall, Crumley said. As previously reported, Jacksonville will pay for the Georgia team to fly directly from Athens, and back.

———

This is the time of year that the NCAA typically releases its Academic Performance Rate (APR) statistics –- a measure that can result in loss of scholarships for programs that are under-performing academically.

I checked with the NCAA and was told this year’s release date isn’t set yet, but will be within the next month or so.

———

Georgia’s brutal baseball season is winding down. There’s a game tonight at Foley Field against Georgia State, then SEC series at Florida this weekend and vs. Kentucky in Athens next week.

Georgia enters tonight’s game with a 13-33 record (3-19 SEC) and an 8.80 staff ERA. The Bulldogs have lost their past four games, eight of their past 10 and 17 of their past 20.

Georgia State will bring a 29-18-1 record and a .367 team batting average to Athens tonight. The Panthers have scored an average of 11.3 runs per game this season.

Yes, it is really funny Andy Coleman. I am just laughing it off, as you. We are doing just Great.

This is UGA.

In the NFL in the last 7 years, 20 of our Bulldogs have played in the Super Bowl. We lead all programs in the Most MVP Players in the Championship Game of The NFL League. Charley Trippi # 1 NFL Draft Pick of the # 1 Round won MVP of the Championship Game of The NFL. Richard Seymour in my humble opinion should have won 2 Super Bowl MVP Trophies in his 3 Super Bowl Wins. Terrell Davis is a 1-time Super Bowl MVP too in his 2 Super Bowl Wins. Hines Ward is a Super Bowl MVP as well, although before that game when he was introduced, he said he was from Forest Park; more recently on his introduction he said The University of Georgia. Jake Scott Super Bowl MVP, and a friend of mine. He is his own man. He is a good guy.

47 Pro Bowl Players from UGA since 1979, UGA has 47 Pro Bowl Players in the NFL just since 1979, a staggering total.

129 NFL Draft Picks are UGA players since 1979, including 19 First Round Picks, the vast majority of those recently, recruited here by Jim Donnan who lost 13 games his last 4 years and was fired for that. We’ve lost 14 games the last 4 years of the Coach Richt Era.

Kevin Butler is the 1st kicker in history selected to the Hall of Fame leads a long tradition of UGA Bulldogs’ kickers.

Only 2 states produce more NFL players from their high schools than the state of Georgia.

Somehow this year we whiffed in-state on Offensive Recruits. Have you interviewed any of them why ?

In Coach Richt’s first 5 Years here, he Won 2 SEC Championships.

In the last 4 years, we have sucked, especially on Offense. And, now 2010 the second 5 years feature yet again a stubborn coach hanging on dearly to a collection of offensive coaches that he himself has admitted 3 weeks ago, are not suited for the purpose for which they were hired.

So, he demoted all the offensive coaches, and made himself the person in charge of the offense. This is a promise Coach Richt made to us and to Vincent J. Dooley on December 20, 2000 at 2 a.m. But, it is Coach Richt’s “coaching staff” of his entire 9 Year Coach Richt Era to-date that has let down Coach Richt, our fans, our players, and The University of Georgia.

I am absolutely not satisfied with 10-10 vs SEC East teams the last 4 years, facing South Carolina on the road at night to not have a losing record over the last 4 years in a row now against SEC East teams. You have to admit that the last 4 years the SEC East has been one sorry lot of football teams who collectively have offered no resistance to Florida. And, we are 10-10 against these lousy outside of Florida SEC East teams the last 4 years.

3-17 the last 2 decades today is what we have to correct. But 5 losses the last 4 years alone to just SEC East teams not ranked in the Top 25 of the Final AP Poll, and 8 Losses in the Coach Richt Era to teams not ranked in the Top 25 of the Final AP Poll and 8 more Losses in the Coach Richt Era of 9 Years now today to teams in the Top 10 of the Final AP Poll with only 3 wins over Top 10 teams in the Final AP Poll, none of those on the National Stage in a Bowl Win over a Top 10 Final AP Poll team, and well 10 wins in 14-game seasons, is not where I thought we would be after what Coach Richt did the 1st 5 years here.

This is going to be viewed as the 1st 5 years.

And, the 2nd 5 years.

With 14 seniors and 5 juniors leaving after this year, this is our year; not next year. Not with the offensive recruiting utter failure this year 2010 in this proud state.

Somehow this year we whiffed in-state on Offensive Recruits. Have you interviewed any of them why ?

it would be so nice for the game to be played in athens, then the city of athens would receive the $$$ for the hotels and resturaunts etc….

it is such a shame that we have a stupid tradition every year

its time to kill this stupid tradition…

and as far as the guy who said that florida will be down because they lost 4 of their best players, well florida has had the number 1 recruiting class the past 2 years where as UGA has had the number 9 recruiting class

its sad to say but florida is getting better while we are getting worse………… UGA’s recruiting class stinx,,,, sorry for being a diehard dawg, that is hard to say

Sally Ann,

If Florida wins 38-13 in a down year, then Richt should be fired at the end of the season. Period.

As for Florida’s dominance over UGA, I don’t know, I mean I guess some teams just have your number. It’s like how UGA usually beats the brakes off of LSU. Is UGA really that much better than LSU? No. But they just match up well against them.

I think the only way to get yourself out of a hole is to quit doing the dumb things that get you there in the first place. UGA has ALWAYS had success against Florida when they have been able to run the ball. Look at 1997, 2004, and 2007-UGA had monster games on the ground! Hell Ealey had 70 yards vs. Florida last year when Bobo actually gave him the ball( God he’s such a stupid redneck moron!). I say if they want to beat the Gators this year, running the ball right down their throats is a good place to start.

I’m still furious over sprurrier running up the score against UGA in 1995 in Athens—the Dawgs want revenge. They should move the game to Athens every other year—the Dawgs will beat Florida like a rented mule between the hedges–take it to the bank! In the other years, they can still play in jacksonville, where florida has all the advantages, but UGA should still get half the tickets.

From where or whom did some of you people get the lamebrained “knowledge”
that Jaguars fans with clubseats get tickets for the Game. That is absolutely untrue; if it was true the Jags would sell many more clubseats. That would be the only reason to get Jag tickets. The tickets are divided equally between the two schools. Some of you people should get your facts correct before placing
such erroneous statements on here or anywhere else. I went to my first Florida-
Georgia game in 1952; I have been to every one since 1970. As the “ole ball coach” said after the 95 game at Sanford, “nice little ballfield they have up here”.

glad you enjoy going to the beaches when you go to jacksonville, when you go there, the game should be primative, not the beaches

for 1 home game, UGA makes over $ 1 million just from the concession stands,

and UGA will never see that $$$ as long as it is played in jacksonville

THAT SUCKS

then add the money that athens loses from hotels, vendors, fast food joints etc on top of that 1 million just from the concession stand loses and then you can not tell me that its fair for UGA

play the game in athens and gainsville

Mark, its been writen about , and written about, adnaseum. Both school make a lot more money to keep the game in Jville rather than going home and home. That not even an option, never has been.

Certainly the Athen hotels and eatery profit (every other year) but you have simply taken it away from the rest of the state that gets that revenue every year. Just shifting revenue from one area of Georgia to the other.

And I highly doubt that some fans love for golf and a mini vacation is weighing heavy on the game plan. Hell, your whole argument about moving the game was just as “secondary” as going to the beaches. What does cash going to Athens fast food joints have anything to do with beating the gators either.

And BTW , isn’t it sort of odd to tell somebody to “get a life” when he pointing out that he enjoyed the trip and the experience, as well as watching the ball game? I think he is proving that he DOES have a life. Wasn’t that kind of his point?

i said the local and state economy would make money……. the fact is that athens loses money from hotels, gas, street vendors etc…. thats not to say the gas that the florida fans would have to get on their way to athens

now can you tell me that the current contract in jacksonville pays any of that????

“for 1 home game, UGA makes over $ 1 million just from the concession stands, and UGA will never see that $$$ as long as it is played in jacksonville” (which BTW is not even remotely close to accurate)

“here you go again, what school did you go to to be as stupid as you are by saying that…nowhere did i say that the schools making money………”

My bad, what were you saying then, because it semed to me that you did.
And that would be UGA ‘85. How about you?

As far as a grown up debate, (less the kill somebodies family talk) if you will pick between the actual football game, the financial ramifications, or the side activities, as a topic I would be glad to have a go at it. You seem to be mixing them all up with no particual cohesive point to make.

I also have good friends that are experts in the convention and visitors industry in BOTH Athens and the Golden Isles if you would like to have that debate.

with sanford stadium seating almost 93,000 people and each of those buys a coke and a hot dog or something else, and the average person spending 12$ at the game equals 1,116,000.00. how is that for acurate?

by the way, the hotels, street vendors etc in athens get nothing with the game being played in jacksonville…. that is what i said…… as far as the comment i made about the concessions going to the football team, most of that goes to the band, cheerleder and pep sqaud…. now can you tell me if those guys get paid from the current contract in jacksonville?

AltamahaDawg

May 13th, 2010
9:59 pm

Actually what I would consider accurate would be: $1,425,763.
That’s straight fom the UGA Athletic Association Annual report from last year under the category of concessions/novelties…………….all sports, all games combined. I think they take into consideration that hot dogs don’t appear from thin air.

I will admit I don’t know the exact earmarks for that money, but I assume that with the University actually making an additional million dollar OVER what it would to have the game in Athens every other year, they don’t shaft anybody. Certainly other charities and BullDawg booster clubs down here have an opportunity to take advantage of the opportunity once a year.

The game in Gainsville half the time aint sending no money back, thats for sure.

And YES I understand your point about the Athens hotels. I have been to Athens plenty of times and very familiar with the concept of staying in a hotel.

Jekyll replaces those room nights almost by itself. Not to mention SSI, Brunswick, St. Marys, Savanah the I-95 corridor connecting all that. AND many of those fill up mid week for the game down here. Do you see anybody checking into the Athens hotels on Tuesday for a game?

So yes, the hotel revenue do go to some other Georgia Cities besides Athens for one game a year. But MORE hotel room nights are generated in the State of Georgia by having the game in J-ville. Good move from the STATE University I’d say. I am sure the impact on the State Owned Jekyll Island is part of the considereation too.
