More than seven months after the decision was made to keep the Georgia-Florida football game in Jacksonville through 2016, a new contract still isn’t signed.
But it will get done, probably this summer, according to Georgia executive associate athletics director Frank Crumley.
“We’re moving along very nicely,” he said. “We’ve got every hurdle worked out and are coming up with a [contract] draft to distribute to all parties.”
He said the delay was caused by making the three-way contract more comprehensive than in the past and dealing with “some very small issues … in the scheme of things.”
There’s been no big hurry since this year’s Georgia-Florida game is covered by the previous contract. The major components of the new deal -– length (six years) and economics –- are unchanged from what was reported last fall, Crumley said. As previously reported, Jacksonville will pay for the Georgia team to fly directly from Athens, and back.
———
This is the time of year that the NCAA typically releases its Academic Performance Rate (APR) statistics –- a measure that can result in loss of scholarships for programs that are under-performing academically.
I checked with the NCAA and was told this year’s release date isn’t set yet, but will be within the next month or so.

Georgia’s brutal baseball season is winding down. There’s a game tonight at Foley Field against Georgia State, then SEC series at Florida this weekend and vs. Kentucky in Athens next week.
Georgia enters tonight’s game with a 13-33 record (3-19 SEC) and an 8.80 staff ERA. The Bulldogs have lost their past four games, eight of their past 10 and 17 of their past 20.
Georgia State will bring a 29-18-1 record and a .367 team batting average to Athens tonight. The Panthers have scored an average of 11.3 runs per game this season.

Investigator, can you provide the stats on arrest rates of players at other schools? More importantly, since underaged drinking constitutes the bulk of these arrests, can you tell us the policy of other schools?
UGA turns violators over to the local police for prosecution. Is this the policy of other schools?
No one denies there is a problem, but logically, no one can explain why the number of incidents is supposedly so much higher at Georgia than other universities. Is ANYONE actually claiming it has to be the coaching staff?

Small Johnson – obviously huh? So that is how that works? If a team beats another team then the team who wins obviously has a better coach. So if I coached a UF team next year and they beat a Citadel team that was coached by let’s say Nick Saban then I would automatically be a better coach then Saban? Seems logical!

I dont care if they play the game in southbend, just not Atl. I dont even go to Braves games when they win. I had bullets whiz over my head b4 in Dome parking lot. No way Id go down ther to see Dawgs get beat again, and again. Id go to see em get beat in Jax though, again, and again.

In all honesty the game should be played in Athens every other year.
why give Jacksonville the game. Georgia is our school nad we should be the benefiaries of seeing our team play just as oth SEC schools do. Pi$$ on Jacksonville and the Gators. PLease bring our team home. We are the Taxpayers that subsidize the university
Really?

Small Johnson – So using your logic Charlie Weatherbie who use to coach Louisiana Monroe beat an Alabama team who was coached by Nick Saban in 2007. So you would say that Charlie is a better coach then Nick?

Coach Zooky Snooky beat Richt
Is Richt really that good?
I mean UGA has more players in the NFL than FL.
UGA ranks 4th among NCAA schools since 1999, FL 9th
And yet Richt cant seem to beat them unless Zook is fired and FL has a bunch of freshman and Sophmores like they did in 2007.
I mean with all that talent you cant beat FL more than twice? And the 2 times you do their coach is fired and they have all sophmore and freshman on the team
And you continue to allow Captain Nemo Martinez to stroll the sidelines all those yrs
I guess you could say that with the talent Richt has had, you YIKES could walk on the field and coach and beat GT?
Tell you what my money is on you to win that game!!!
Yikes!

I will tell you how.
Since Richt has been here who on the schedule is really that tough on the 12 game schedule
UF
LSU
AUB I will add since they will always play us tough
Alabama just recently in the last 2 yrs under the Richt era
and…………………..
UF we play every year and lose to
LSU and AL we alternate with Ole Miss and Miss State like we do for the next 2 years
so every 2 years Richt should have 10 or 11 easy wins and every two years 9 wins
Because Tenn, SC, Arkansas, GT, Vanderbilt, Kentucky, Ole Miss, Miss State, and the 2 cream puffs we add etc have not been that tough in the Richt era
Does that help you, Can you figure it out now?

The original debate was about the contract on the site of GA-FLA game, not coaching abilities. However, you are all correct in bringing up advantage points for the teams playing locations. It DOES matter. Maybe for us GA fans we love the idea of big games being played in Athens, who doesnt?? As fairness to the schedule and east-west alternates, games have to be played at both locations for each team. We never play Vandy in Knoxville, or vice versa, but it would still be a loaded site for fans of the state of Tenn. Hence, regardless of fan base of UGA or Gatas in Jax, it sorta makes sense. Yes, the game should be played in Atl or Athens, but it seems that money waives to logic, in most cases, as this one. The debate goes on…

The game in Jax has its own history like the OU and Texas Red River Rivarly game at the Cotton Bowl since 1932
You wimpy dawg fans who want to change the location deep down think we will somehow win because of location advantage.
Remember whimps there are just as many FL fans as UGA fans at the game theres no advantage
The game has its tradition down their since the 30’s as well. Why change tradition because some of our whining whimpy fans want to move it to home and home or Jax and ATL thinking we will win.
That same mentality has already been tried with those awful uniforms with the result of our teeth getting knocked out.
I remember the days when we owned FL and not one UGA fan said I hate going to JAX
Get some b@#ls people and demand our coach start going down there and busting them in the mouth you cry baby UGA fans.
Oh I don’t want to hear about money going to the state crap when I have to spend more and more of my hard earned money to see us lose to them yr after yr.

The Gators put 50 on the Dawgs in Gainsville and 50 more in Athens the next year. Then the Dawgs lose 15 out of 18 in Jacksonville, I don’t know where in the h3ll they think they can win consistantly. Do you want to try Atlanta, since that’s the only way the Dawgs will ever play there(in the for seeable future).

Keep it in J’ville…the tide always turns…just didn’t think it would be 20 years(could be more, too). Sheesh! Nonetheless, I always have a good time down there hooking up with old UGA friends, and yes even some UF friends. The tradition of this mini bowl game is too precious to mess with.

As far as “learning to beat Florida”, what does that even mean? learn to build a better team? learn to outscore your opponent? I think thats a pretty good lesson always isn’t it?
Clearly winning in 04′,07′ they don’t have to learn how. They need to show up with a better team. If somebody could write a book about “learning” to beat a better team, it would surely be on the NYT best sellers list. I’d say a good place to start with is with learning to catch the ball, and run the ball, and stop the other guys from doing that.
I prefer to spin it as: only one team in the nation beat Tebow more than UGA did in his career.
