More than seven months after the decision was made to keep the Georgia-Florida football game in Jacksonville through 2016, a new contract still isn’t signed.
But it will get done, probably this summer, according to Georgia executive associate athletics director Frank Crumley.
“We’re moving along very nicely,” he said. “We’ve got every hurdle worked out and are coming up with a [contract] draft to distribute to all parties.”
He said the delay was caused by making the three-way contract more comprehensive than in the past and dealing with “some very small issues … in the scheme of things.”
There’s been no big hurry since this year’s Georgia-Florida game is covered by the previous contract. The major components of the new deal -– length (six years) and economics –- are unchanged from what was reported last fall, Crumley said. As previously reported, Jacksonville will pay for the Georgia team to fly directly from Athens, and back.
———
This is the time of year that the NCAA typically releases its Academic Performance Rate (APR) statistics –- a measure that can result in loss of scholarships for programs that are under-performing academically.
I checked with the NCAA and was told this year’s release date isn’t set yet, but will be within the next month or so.

Georgia’s brutal baseball season is winding down. There’s a game tonight at Foley Field against Georgia State, then SEC series at Florida this weekend and vs. Kentucky in Athens next week.
Georgia enters tonight’s game with a 13-33 record (3-19 SEC) and an 8.80 staff ERA. The Bulldogs have lost their past four games, eight of their past 10 and 17 of their past 20.
Georgia State will bring a 29-18-1 record and a .367 team batting average to Athens tonight. The Panthers have scored an average of 11.3 runs per game this season.

georgiadawg70, in case you haven’t been to Buckhead or Roswell and heard NY jewish accents, don’t talk about yankees in Florida.

georgiadawg70 – You are getting Jacksonville confused with other parts of FL. Yes there are some snow birds who move to Jax but not as many as you seem to believe. And the snow birds aren’t the people that I am talking about who go to the games. It is all the younger kids who live in Jax.

georgiadawg70 – you make a good point. UGA should not play the game in Jax because Jax has yankees who live in the city. Really? That is the best you could come up with?

Mike, been there, done that many, many, many times. I love the Ga-Fla game in Jax, but I’d love it a whole helluva lot more if there were less of it in Jax.
It just ain’t that special anymore.
p.s. Nothing to do with series records, past or whatever, it’s simply GEOGRAPHY. It ain’t that special. And I’m in like flynn with the tickets and seats.

NO UGA fan should want the game to go home and home or even to Atlanta.
Better coaching has won majority of the games.
The only change to scheduling is both teams should be required to have an equal # of off weeks and conf. games before the game of a 10 year period. Dooley usually had a bye week or Cupcake before the WLOCP, UF has had the week off more often since ‘92 when UGA started playing UK in place of Temple, Tulane, Richmond etc.

I like Jacksonville, but I also like the idea of the games being played in each others stadiums. I mean I know Florida kicked our butts in 1994 and 1995 when they were really good and UGA was really bad. But I’d like to think that the outcomes to some of those game in the mid-2000’s would have been different if UGA got to play Florida in Athens and ESPECIALLY if they got to play them on the road in Gainesville. Richt’s teams always played well on the road and I think just the mentality of going into their place and beating them in front of their crowd would have propelled them to victory whereas a neutral site wouldn’t have had that same effect. I mean is the Swamp really that much more of an intimidating place than Neyland or Bryant-Denny, especially back in the mid-2000’s when the Gators were pretty average and UGA was really good?
It just seems like the Gators are a little too much in the Dawgs head at times, and who knows Jacksonville might be a part of that equation. With that being said, the Gators were able to reverse their fortunes in this series, and if they can do it, so can UGA. All I know is that the Dawgs need to get back to making this series more competitive because it isn’t a rivalry when one team wins all the time!

gdawg70, we are about the same age, I went to my first when Wally Butts was coach. Did you really hate it in the 70’s and 80’s. Personally I would also like it home and home but nothing because of travel either because I live an hour north of Athens and like the atmosphere of the game. But I also enjoyed it when the old ball coach hung a half a hudred on you in athens. If you can’t keep the likes of Vandy or Kentucky from beating you in Athens, what makes you think UF coming there every other year will make things better?

UGAclassof2004, Take a look at the schedules. Of the last 4 games where UF had a conf game before UGA there series is 2-2.
Last year it looked liked the staff spent more time looking for Black uniforms than a game plan.
Most will agree the coaching on defense and special teams was a problem the past 2 year and some would say offense as well.

I HAVE 2 QUESTIONS. ANYBODY HAVE AN ANSWER?
1. I read at beginning of spring football practice back in March that Zach Renner was off/left the team. Does anyone know why?
2. Why is there no news about the UGA softball team? They’re doing very well, hammered TX in TX to finish the season. Go UGA GIRLS!!
Thank Y’all for any help, Aaron

With the new travel contract, the playing field is more level for both teams. Florida fans do get the advantage on good seats and parking because of the Jaguar suite holders and club seats. It is usually a shorter drive for the Florida fan since the majority of Geoargia fans that actually go to games live in the Atlanta area. The state of Georgia doesn’t benefit as much from the tax dollars generated by the game, even though there are now some great places to stay in the GA Golden Isles area. The new contract makes things better, but the state of FL and the FL fans still get the best deal as long as the game is in Jacksonville.

I could care less if we played the game at Turner Field, Yankee Stadium, or Bubba Dump Stadium at the historic and violent neighborhood of Grant Field on North Ave.
Just get me a coach who wants to beat FL and does it consistantly.
And pay him 3 million and a bonus of 2 million for every time he beats FL and Tech in the same yr!
Thats the contract that needs to be signed!!!!

Now that we’re officially in the off-season, wouldn’t this be the perfect time to take an in-depth look at UGA and have a free-ranging discussion about the problems at UGA and why the arrest rate of players is the highest in the country? it’s common knowledge that UGA is a party school, but have any football players every actually graduated with a real degree? Jan Kemp exposed the school and the coaches almost three decades ago, but there is no sign that anything has improved; if anything, the arrest rate shows that things are getting more outrageous every year while Mark Richt – a decent fellow with no coaching skills – has no clue what to do.
UGA has become a major embarrassment to all Georgians, and we want some answers starting now.

I would like to tack on something else
UGA has more NFL players than FL currently in the NFL
And ranks 4th among NCAA schools with the most in the NFL since 1999.
FL has had the better team but it has had the better coaching staff.
We have the better uniform designers
