Might Mettenberger play against the Dogs in Sanford Stadium next year? (UPDATED)

(Updated 5 p.m. Wednesday)

Former Georgia quarterback Zach Mettenberger hopes to play football at another college. And Louisville is one place he’ll look, according to a website that covers the Cardinals.

After pleading guilty to misdemeanor sexual battery charges in Valdosta on Monday, Mettenberger said in a written statement that he hopes for “a second chance to compete at another university in the nation.” The Scout.com site that covers the Louisville program, InsideTheVille.com, reported Tuesday that its sources say Mettenberger is expected to visit Louisville later this month.

This could get interesting, if anything comes of it.

Mettenberger would be required to sit out the 2010 season under NCAA transfer rules, but do you know who Louisville is scheduled to open the 2011 season against?

Georgia.

In Sanford Stadium.

The Dogs and Cards also are scheduled to play in 2012 in Louisville.

UPDATE: Former Georgia football player Kelin Johnson reports on his website, kelinjohnson.com, that Mettenberger said  he has scholarship offers from Louisville and Cincinnati as well as “heavy interest and calls from other colleges and universities, including the University of Tennessee, USC, Texas A&M, UK, Troy, Memphis and Colorado.” Johnson’s website is here.

——–

Former Georgia safety Reshad Jones made a good first impression in the Miami Dolphins’ rookie mini-camp, according to this story in the Palm Beach Post.

——–

If you missed it, Georgia’s men’s and women’s tennis teams yesterday learned their first-round draws for the NCAA Championships. The men’s team will open against UNC Greensboro on May 15 in Athens and the women’s team against Harvard on May 14 in Clemson, S.C.

Second-round winners on the men’s and women’s sides will converge in Athens from sites around the country for the round of 16 through the finals.

——–

Georgia is nowhere to be found in SI.com’s Andy Staplespost-spring college football Top 25. Nor are the Bulldogs in his five who “just missed the cut.”

And in yet another post-spring Top 25, Georgia is No. 23 in ESPN College Football Live’s ranking.

Something tells me that this will not be Mettenberger’s only run-in with the law. He’ll probably get in trouble again and end up playing D III ball somewhere

Not worried about Mett playing at Louisville. He should be more worried than us. If he’s a slow moving qb, he’s going to bet running for his life against Grantham’s D and qb blitz packages….

Andy Staples is wrong quite often with his assumptions.

At least Andy Staples admits he’s an idiot. How could you leave out Arkansas…? Arkansas is going to be downright SCARY this year and my pick to win the SEC West, mark it down. Better yet, put $20 on the line and thank me next January….

Preseason rankings mean nothing. Let’s see where we are when the BCS poll rolls around. The only thing I can say about Mett is that I know his momma taught him better than to go around doing things to embarrass her, the school and women as a whole. There used to be such a thing as a Southern Gentleman, perhaps now a endangered species.
Big ups to Murray for keeping his head down and putting in the work.

SI has never predicted anything right. They are the worst at covering college football. So, them leaving UGA out is no big surprise to me. You know, UGA has a pretty easl schedule next year. I don’t think it is possible for them to play worse than last year.

Hey, not that I think it will really turn out this way, but Andy Staple’s SI column referenced above has 5 ACC teams in the top 25 as compared to only 3 SEC teams. And from my opinion, what’s really scary is not that he has the SEC teams rated too low, but the ACC teams rated too high. That leaves lots of spots open for the Mid-Majors. Wow ….

Our Dawgs are a little “tainted’ by the National press because of the last two years and laying 2 or 3 eggs on National TV in some big games. We have to prove on the field. We have slipped to the “show me” mode with the National folks. The “brand’ is tarnished.

Good luck to Mett.
Pre season team rankings cost many teams a legit shot of the NT. Pre season rankings are fine, they should just be thrown out at the start of the season and started again after 2 or 3 games have been played and we have seen who’s good and who’s not.
Example: Georgia ranked 1 in pre season rankings in 08 until it was shown we had no defense.

What’s wrong with this picture? Mett’s offenses were so egregious as to get kicked off the team at UGA, but Louisville rushes in to sign him before the ink dries on his guilty plea?

I’m all for Mett getting another chance, but I thought schools might wait a year to see if he keeps his nose clean.

I guess we can see early on what kind of program Charlie will be running. In taking such a chance on Mett, players already on the team know the sky’s the limit on anything they can get away with. . .

And some of you still think he should be on the team?? Man, all I can say is that you have some low standards! Folks we lost to UT and KY last year! Why should we be ranked in anyone’s top 30? The SEC West will be brutal this year and has 4 quality teams that should be ranked (Bama, Ark. LSU, and Aub) while the SEC East has only 1 (UF) and maybe another in South Carolina. UGA will lose to SC, UF, ARK, and AUB…the only hard teams we face all year. We could end up dropping another to a lesser program like the two we lost last year and obviously we could lose the Yech game. Thus, UGA will lose 4 and as many as 7 this year. Likelihood is we finish 7-5 and head West again. It’s a shame since the East is down so much this year. Could have been UGA’s year if our coaches were only as top notch as our recruiting and fans are.

What the bammers and the mildcats probably do fear is leaving a daughter in a room with a UGA qb. What a fine upstanding Christian program Mark Richt is running there.

He is a gamechanger. I know Rashad Greene who play’s wr at St. Thomas Aguanis, but he started at Westover H.S. in Albany, and hopefully he will come into the fold and bring a couple of teammates.

Doesn’t matter that he was let go from which team. What matters is the NCAA eligibility rule. He qualified at a Div 1 school for the 2010 season. He can go down and play right away to a Div 2 or 3 school or wait out a year and play at a Div 1. It is a good rule, designed to keep kids from school hopping to play sports

The young man made a huge mistake one night where alcohol was involved. Don’t know why you single him out as a huge risk. You could apply that label to the a lot of the Georgia football team since this program seems to be the run away leader in players getting arrested. No one else is remotely close to the dogs as far as arrests go. You can try and excuse it by saying that most of the arrests are minor but the bottom line is that with the incredible number of arrests over the last 3 years Georgia certainly has to be considered a rogue, lawless program.

Here’s the thing about Mark Richt and the program and all the bad behavior and many will not like what I’m going to say. Richt declares his spiritual beliefs and doesn’t try to make it a secret. For instance, when he’s out recruiting, he uses it as a major recruiting tool (see Christian LeMay) and has even said as much. Now, when it comes to actually running his program, by and large he has been lax on real discipline. You would think that a man who makes such spiritual claims would be, lets say, much less tolerant of some these behaviors. Now with all of the publicity that’s out there, a coach almost has no choice but to come down hard on many of these players. Bottom line…Richt reminds me of the Preacher in church who preaches against the false worship of material things and against excess and then at the end of the day when it’s time to lock up the church and go home, hops into his Mercedes 500 series sedan isntead of a Buick.

I sure hope we don’t have to face your freshman QB and that juggernaut building in Athens. Whoa. And please continue to use creative math when discussing the series…whatever math gets the stat that you want. Let’s not include the all-time series or what we did to you in the 90’s.

And Tide Roll? This link is for you. Please see where UGA and Bama are on this list mkay?

I don’t know if he is too “lose” (does lose with those player too much but thats another issue) which causes them to go out and get in trouble in a college town. I don’t have that kind of inside knowledge plus I can’t imagine what you can do up front any differently, and I am sure they have tried it all. It’s not like they don’t understand the consequenses. Maybe he doesn’t do whatever you do that makes football player want to play football and not want to NOT play football more. I guess that just seems to me that would be a given. I guess he could sign a different set of footbal players. All of our signees seem to have a long list of offers from other schools behind thier name. Maybe he is just damn unlucky we got them, and other’s didnt.

But I do know this: as a fan, as tired of reading about it as I am, I cannot name an instance where he failed to take the appropriate action if a player did get in trouble.

As I have stated before , I do wish UGA was a hellova lot better at sweeping some of the silly BS stuff under the rug. Nobody is better served with that stuff going public. And don’t freaking tell me there aren’t any football players driving scooters on the orange sidewalks.

How2fish,

Bama has won 4 of the last 7 vs the dogs and leads the overall series 36-25. Richt has in fact won 3 of 4 against Bama but 2 of those wins were way back in 2002 and 2003 against Bama teams on probation. Newsflash- Mike Shula is no longer the coach and Bama is no longer playing with 21 fewer scholarship players. Against Saban at Bama Richt is 1-1 including an overtime win against Saban’s first Bama team which was 7-6. I realize you guys like to go back into the past, pick a point in time, and make some kind of strange argument that Georgia or Richt is somehow better based on the particular point in time that you want to pick. If you want to live in the past then live in the complete past in which case Georgia as a program is nowhere near the stature of the storied Alabama program. Not even remotely close and you d@mn well know it!

I imagine if every coach kicked off of their team all of the young kids who messed up a time or two then they would not be a very good coach or even Christian coach in my mind – probably would not have many players left either? These young kids are human and in a town where the parties, alcohol and beautiful women are in excess. So if any of you feel you are without sin or temptation then keep casting the stones – I’m sure you would all be angels and stay in your dorm drinking cool-aid and reading your Bible. Also, if you have ever played football you will understand that most of these young guys full testosterone are trying to one up each other on how studly they can be and sometimes take it a little to far!

Some of you folks are being too critical of Coach Richt. He is an excellent football coach, and is a first class person. For the record, I would not trade Coach Richt for any other coach in the United States. His winning percentage is stellar. He is a man of strong character. Richt will win a National Championship at UGA. My biggest concern is one day he may decide to walk away from all of the negativity associated with the job.

I for one wish Mett all the best at Louisville or any team he can find to give him a shot. He fugged up in a major way. His most damaging was not telling Richt the whole truth and in essence a lie. For that he earned his walking papers and cost him a future at UGA. He is paying the Piper. It’s a wake up call for Mett and he has no one to blame but himself. Hopefully, he will change his behavior and get his life on track.

As for SI and their latest poll, who really cares. They picked UGA number 1 and where did we finish. Any mention by SI and Staples is a curse. For me, the fact that he left us out of the top 25 is quite the blessing. They are never right anyway. The best poll prognosticator IMO would be Phil Steele. Geez. Saban is a better football coach today than Mark Richt. hell he had a decade head start and worked for about a half dozen programs before Richt ever got his first Job. been at several large program, including 2 SEC, a couple of stinks in the NFL. He aught to be a pretty good coach by now.

I can understand a few fews back when they were mired in a coupld of decades of funk, but Now. geez, if you can’t just be proud of a NC and leave it at that, somebody is in serious need of a little self-confidence.

According to the 2006 NCAA transfer rule, Mettenberg could play this season at a FCS school. That rule prohibits students with only one year of eligibility remaining from transferring and starting immediately at a FCS school. The rule intentionally benefits Div. II, as it allows such a transfer to play immediately with only 1 year of eligibility remaining.

Not knowing the details of Mettenberger’s probation, it may or may not allow him to live in another state.

Bama Fan – Ok State with Dez Bryant was a legit team. Big 12 teams aren’t bad but they aren’t SEC worthy due to depth. For a second example look at how Oklahoma did once Bradford got injured, or how Texas looked once McCoy went down. Ok State’s fortunes were very much tied to their 1 superstar player.

We’ve also recently played Arizona State, Colorado, Boise State and Clemson.

Plus Ga Tech every year.

If you think Alabama’s OOC schedule holds a candle to that, i’ll just leave you to your fantasy about what would happen if Bear Bryant and Nick Saban could be co-coaches of your team and Stallings as a coordinator.

As a man of “reality” I would think that you are aware that:

The vast majority of sport fans, I don’t care that the colors, are pretty level headed and don’t really have unreasonable expectation from year to year. Some years thier hoping might exceed the results, some year thier team pleasantly surprises them, all years they pull for them even if admittedly beyond what is logical on paper, but for the most part UGA fans, like others, are informed and realistic.

The lunitic fringe that claims to think they are entitled to ae better sports team than anyone else simple based on the fact of thier fandom are either dumb as rocks, 12 yrs old, or frankly doing so out of pure satire too. I suppose it’s possible that a grown man actually believes they represent the “mass”es. I don’t know any that would, but possible.

Pointing out the “reality” to the 95% of us fans who know just as much as you do and really don’t need the advice, especially when its just so predictably negative to the point of vapidity, is not the act of a well adjusted person, is it?. Certainly one who brags of thier wordliness. As far as “display and difuse” anything, I guess. You really are taking it to the BS that is put out to get under your skin of rivals if not outright make fun of them in a sports blog. Yea…Good job.

It looks to me like you spend an awful lot of time on a project that doesnt exist you are simply making up excuses for your own personal pacification.

Now if we looked up the word “delusional”, would that be pretty close to the definition?

ugaaccountant,

Son. You asked for it.

Both Alabama and Georgia have played Clemson in the 2000s and as for GT which sucked for most of the 2000s Georgia has to play them anyway as a state rival.

So lets take a respective look at the 3 remaining teams that Georgia has played OOC in the 2000s vs the teams Bama has played OOC in the 2000s.

Okay State, Arizona State, Colorado and Boise for Georgia vs Penn State, Virginia Tech, Oklahoma, FSU,and UCLA for Alabama. Lets see

Colorado- 3-9 last year, in the years preceding that they were 5-7,6-7, and 2-10. Their last winning season was 7-6 in 2005. Are you serious?

ASU- 4-8 and 5-7 the last 2 years. Only 1 10 win season in the 2000s. Are you kidding me?

Okay state- Back to back 9-4 records which is respectable. Overall though this team has never won their division, hasn’t had a 10 win season since the 80s, and didn’t finish top 25 last year. Got blown out by Ole Miss in their bowl game. Apparently Ole Miss didn’t think much of them. Neither do I.

Boise state- Good team although we’ll never know just how good since they play in the WAC. Georgia walloped them in 2005 which incidentally is Boise’s only bad season in the last several years. They finished 9-4 playing in the wac. Which means besides the Georgia loss that Boise lost 3 games in the freaking WAC that year. Just how good is a team that loses 3 WAC games??? Overall a good team but that year they certainly sucked if they lost 3 WAC games.

Now lets look at Bama’s OOC opponents in the 2000s.

Penn State- Nation’s 9th winningest program overall. Back to back 11-2 seasons in 2008 and 2009. Preceding that were a pair of 9 win seasons and an 11-2 season again in 2005. 3 11 win seasons in the past 5 years. I’m impressed.

Virginia Tech- Finished top 10 last year and won back to back ACC championships the previous 2 years. 6 consecutive 10 win seasons including 2 11 win seasons. Only Texas has also won 10 or more games 6 years in a row. Without question the dominant ACC power over the last 5-6 years with several conference championships. Once again I’m impressed.

Oklahoma- The name speaks for itself. Bama played them back to back in 2002 and 2003. In those years OU was no. 1 when Bama played them in 2002 and probably ranked in top 5 when they played again in 2003 because OU finished 12-2 in both seasons that Bama played them including a berth in the bcs title game in 2003 vs LSU OU had 8 seasons of 11 wins or more in the 2000s including 4 12 win seasons and a 13 win season and national title in 2000.

UCLA and FSU- Both were declining powers when Bama played them FSU in 2007 and UCLA in 2000 and 2001. Still big historical names though and certainly bigger all time names than Colorado, Arizona State or Okay state.

ugaaccountant-

please don’t disrespect yourself by further trying to claim that losing programs like Colorado, Arizona State, and a below average program like Okay State are in any way comparable to playing perennial powerhouses like Oklahoma, Penn State, and Virginia Tech. Please don’t go there and further embarrass yourself and dawg fans everywhere. One more note. I thought accountants were supposed to be good with numbers. Apparently not. Well, not Georgia accountants anyway.

RTR (imposter),

Louisiana-Lafayette is quite a tough opponent for the dawgs this year also. At least they will be tougher than double AA opponent Idaho State which has won 1 game in each of the last 2 years. And then of course there is Colorado which as I pointed out was 3-9 last year and hasn’t had a winning season since 2005 when they went 7-6. Get back to me when you play a national power like Penn State which went 11-2 the last 2 years and 3 of the last 5 years. Idiot.

Hey ugaaccountant,

I got an even better idea. Since I just schooled you on the quality of opponents that we played OOC in the 2000s maybe you can school me on Georgia’s stellar out of conference opponents from 1965 through 1999. I heard a rumor that the last time Georgia traveled outside the immediate southeastern US to play a bcs conference school type opponent was 1965. I’m that was just a lie though. In the meantime here is a list of big time bcs type opponents Bama played from the 70s throughout the 90s. Please counter with your list. Here’s mine:

Home and homes with Nebraska, Notre Dame, Penn State, USC(the real USC), Ohio State 1 game, Miami one game, BYU,Missouri, Texas A& M back when they were good,Boston College w Doug Flutie, Washington when they were a power under Don James, NC State.

Get back to me on that because I’m certain that its a dirty stinking lie that the dawgs were scared to play big time opponents from outside the immediate southeast for 45 years.

Actually I’ll help you out with your list. UCLA came to Sanford stadium in 1985. Georgia was supposed to make a return trip the next year to UCLA. Know what happened? Georgia wiggled out of it and never made the trip. Freaking cowards!

Bama fan-

You are the idiot! Lets break it down shall we?

Last year: Bama played Va Tech (no home and home in the Dome), Florida International, North Texas, and UT- Chattanooga. Impressive!

UGA: @ Oklahoma St. (notice the @) who were a top ten team with Dez -side note, it doesn’t matter the overall prestigue of a program, its what they have done recently-, Arizona St, Tennessee Tech, and Georgia Tech.

Georgia Tech beat Va Tech and won the ACC, last year UGA played a tougher non conference schedule than Bama, playing Oklahoma years ago is irrelavent currently.

This upcoming year, you play Penn St AND San Jose St, Georgia State (first year team), and @ Duke (nice to return that favor).

We play @ Colorado who is improving under Hawkins, Louisiana La., Idaho St, and Georgia Tech.

I would say these opponents, combined, are about even in strength.

Now lets see the opponents we have lined up in the future:

Bama in 2011 & 2012: @ Penn ST, @ Tulane, and Western Kentucky are the only ones I could find that you have scheduled.

UGA in 2011 & 2012: Louisville (new staff, Strong) home and home, Coastal Carolina, New Mexico St, Georgia Tech always home and home, these are all I can find for UGA, we have a few games left to schedule.

Also in 2013-2016 we have scheduled home and home games with Clemson and Oregon.

As Bobby Bowden will tell you some vacated wins doesn’t change the results of on the field buttkickings. And since you asked let me help you out with the math. Even with vacated wins Bama still has quite a few more wins than Georgia and that sir is called a FACT.You have now been enlightened but now allow me to enlighten you even further. In NCAA major infractions cases UGA and AU are tied with about 5 other teams for 3rd most major infractions cases with 6 each. Bama has had 4 cases, all coming since the 90s. Well, it looks like you’ve been enlightened yet again as to a FACT which is that you do lead us in something after all don’t you?

RTR,

As for the pansies on our schedule are you just stupid? Everyone plays 2-3 cream puffs every single year and UGA is no exception this year with Idaho State, La-Lafayette, and a pathetically horrible Colorado. team.

UGA @ OK state. Where did Ok state finish? Top 25. Uh, no. I don’t think so. Their preseason ranking was about as worthless as your preseason 2008 ranking of no.1 you dolt.

GT beats VT one stinking year and that is the whole freaking basis of your argument? You can’t be serious. Forget about consistency and VT winning 10 or more games 6 years in a row. I reckon that means nothing.

Your idiot friend mentioned teams that UGA played years ago such as Boise. Playing OU is just as relevant using his criteria.

Colorado is improving under Hawkins??????? Oh my dear God. You did not just say that. Please tell me you’re not that damn stupid. They’ve gotten progressively worse going from 6 wins to 5 wins to 3-9 last year. Just how damn dumb are you? They want to fire Hawkins in Colorado but can’t do it for the sole reason that they can’t afford the buyout. Good God you are stupid. That one will have to go down as the blithering idiot of the day comment.

Coastal Carolina is on your schedule? Isn’t that the team you guys were constantly ragging Florida over scheduling????? Why yes. Bingo. It is!!!!!! Fact of the matter is that if you go back and look at UGAs schedules you will see the same new mexico states and Idahos every year. Everyone plays them dude.

Get back to me later on that rapidly improving Colorado team that hasn’t had a winning season since 2005. Man are you funny!

Hey BAMMER…. Here is the 2008 strength of sched. Guess what???
25. BYU – Has zero preseason ranked teams on its schedule.

24. Fresno St. – Wisconsin and UCLA provide only “tests.”

23. Wake Forest – Rough patch of Clemson, Maryland, Miami all in a row.

22. Texas Tech – This could get tougher if Nebraska and Texas A&M shape up.

21. Missouri – Shocked to see this come in so low, but no Oklahoma unless they meet in the B12 CG.

20. Oklahoma – Texas and Kansas back to back. Texas Tech late. Not much else. See above.

19. Pitt – Skewed by so many average bowl teams from last year. Notre Dame and Cincy are wild cards.

18. Arizona St. – Georgia, at Cal, at USC, UCLA, and at Arizona. Don’t be shocked if three of those are losses.

17. Illinois – Missouri early, Ohio State late, and a lot of solid comp in the middle. Oh, and a Rose Bowlseye on your back.

16. Oregon – Seven straight before an open date. Boise St., and games at USC, ASU, Cal, and Oregon St. 2007 was probably your year.

15. USF – Kansas, Pitt, and WVU should be huge. Four more ‘07 bowl teams.

14. Clemson – Open with Alabama. Close with South Carolina. Solid ACC center with late date in Tallahassee, plus championship game.

13. Wisconsin – Strange one at Fresno St. Then at Mich, OSU, Penn St., at Iowa, and Illinois. In order. Athletic director deserves a cheese basket.

12. USC – At Virginia, OSU two weeks later, and a back-to-back with Oregon and ASU. Cal, Notre Dame (?), and Neu-C-L-A. Somehow 11 more are tougher.

11. LSU – Creampuff start, brutal from there. At Auburn, Florida, South Carolina, and Arky. Home games against Georgia and Alabama. Two losses won’t cut it this year.

10. OSU – Trip to LA early to most likely make/break the season. At Wiscy and Illinois. Home dates with Penn St. and the Michigan Wolveneers.

9. West Virginia – At Colorado on a Thursday Night. Does any road team like a Thursday night game? Auburn at home, with Louisville, Pitt, and South Florida to finish.

8. Florida – Hawaii and Miami early in the typical ‘tuneup’ games. At Tennessee and Arkansas. LSU and SC at home. Against Georgia, in Jacksonville, for control of the universe. Finish up at FSU and an SEC CG birth, or look at the season as a failure. Sounds like fun.

7. Kansas – At South Florida early. Every powerhouse B12 team imaginable. A hopeful championship game berth to prove last season wasn’t a fluke? Not likely. Pop in your March Madness DVD if things start going south.

6. Florida St. – Biggest shocker to see their schedule this high. Though after eating a few cupcakes while the suspended players rest, it becomes a who’s who of 2007 bowl teams with some big names sprinkled in. Miami will improve. VT is always a problem. Clemson feels it’s their year. So does Florida. Plus a championship game if you make it through all of that. Dadgummit.

5. Tennessee – The pendulum will likely swing the other way this year for Phil and Co. Squeaking out game after game in ‘07, this year brings a trip to UCLA, Florida early, at Auburn, at Georgia, who might be looking for some revenge, and late tilts with Alabama and South Carolina.

4. Texas – Arkansas early. A Colorado team that has to improve. All of the big boys in OU, Missouri, Kansas, TTech, A&M, plus a death match against one of them all over again if they want to play in the Orange Bowl.

3. Auburn – Southern Miss, LSU, Tennessee, and a Thursday night trip to West Virginia to chase Noel Devine around the field. Georgia three weeks later. Take a breath. Go to Alabama. Leave no one behind.

2. Alabama – Clemson to open things up in Atlanta. The worst road schedule I’ve seen requiring trips to Arkansas, Georgia, Tennessee, and LSU. Auburn at home for dessert. This is not the kind of schedule you want your young kids hanging their title hopes on. Figure things out this year. Kick the door down in ‘09

1. Georgia – Far and away the most difficult schedule on paper in 2008. The only team to play six ranked opponents (per Lindy’s), with two separate sets of back-to-back meetings with ranked teams. Fly to Arizona St. Bama a week later. Fly to LSU. Florida a week later. Mix in some Tennessee, South Carolina, Auburn, and Georgia Tech for additional flavor. RTR,

Still sticking by your Colorado is improving statement huh? Just can’t come to admit that the CU program has gotten worse. I’m sorry. I thought we were talking football and not graduation rates. I thought when you said they were improving that you meant their football team is getting better as a football team which as I’ve demonstrated quite the opposite is true.

If you want to stick to the current year then so be it. We had a pretty good year this past year wouldn’t you say? As for 2010 scheduling I don’t see a Penn State on your schedule. I see GT which has had one good season in 10 years and a double AA Idaho state team, LA-Lafayette.

Since we are talking about the current year 14-0 and bcs national champions. Nuff said! And if you want to talk about this past year’s schedule we played and beat 10 bowl teams which has never been done in history. 10 teams we beat with winning records and bowl appearances. We also beat #1 Florida, #2 Texas, # 10 VT, we beat LSU when they were ranked in the top 10, and we beat ARK and S. Carolina which were also ranked. What top 10 teams did you beat and did you also play 10 bowl teams? let me know about those 10 bowl teams?

Hey Bammer…..2007 strength of sched. UGA was 14 but guess what….Bammer wasnt even in top 25

Now…shut your pie hole

14. Georgia
Georgia schedule
Date Opponent
Sept. 1 Oklahoma State
Sept. 8 South Carolina
Sept. 15 Western Carolina
Sept. 22 at Alabama
Sept. 29 Ole Miss
Oct. 6 at Tennessee
Oct. 13 at Vanderbilt
Oct. 27 vs. Florida
Nov. 3 Troy
Nov. 10 Auburn
Nov. 17 Kentucky
Nov. 24 at Georgia Tech

Combined record of Division I-A opponents: 87-56 (.608)
Bowl teams: Nine
Home games: Seven (not including Florida at Jacksonville)
Division I-AA opponents: One
AP Top 25 teams: Three (one at home, one at neutral site)

Why they’re No. 14: Georgia scheduled a pair of solid nonconference opponents in Oklahoma State and Georgia Tech. Although the Bulldogs get Auburn at home, they face most of their toughest opponents on the road. Georgia would have ranked higher if its list of SEC West opponents had included LSU or Arkansas instead of Ole Miss. The Bulldogs also were one of many SEC teams to schedule a Division I-AA opponent.

COLORADO’S DISCIPLEN HAS IMPROVED, THIS HAS YET TO BE SEEN ON THE FIELD HOWEVER IN 2010 I BELIEVE IT WILL, THIS SEASON HAS NOT BEEN PLAYED YET SO IT IS YET TO BE SEEN, FACTUAL BEATDOWN.

Please keep “factually beating me down” by not even debating the points presented to you, idiot.

Also (again x2) please tell me where I bragged that we opened with a top team team? They did not finish there, end of story. I said WITH DEZ AND THE OTHER PLAYER WHO GOT KICKED OFF they were deserving of that ranking, meaning they were a tough opponent, despite a lack of succes in previous years. LSU, who YOU DID BRAG ABOUT BEING IN THE TOP TEN WHEN YOU PLAYED THEM proved not to be a top ten caliber team with all their players -spkie it Les!-

Keep making up arguements I never stated, just shows you ARE the one who received a factual beatdown.

Also, I find it funny a UGA fan had to tell you that Bama is currently on prbation until 2012…way to know Bama LMAO

Altamaha dawg – You’re giving Bama fan far too much credit. He’s trying to argue that their 1 BCS out of conference schedule is tougher than our 2 BCS out of conference schedule. Plus he’s ignoring the fact that we try to get tough non-BCS games as well, like Boise State and Louisville as our 3rd OOC game. When they have one it’s the 1st or 2nd OOC game.

What’s even crazier is he’s giving us 0 credit for playing our local rival Ga Tech. Alabama doesn’t have an extra non-sec game like that on their schedule. If Auburn were a non-sec game, then they could talk. But as the schedules currently stand, we have them trumped.

That’s why as others have pointed out, every year going into the season, our schedule is among the toughest in the country. Maybe if we scheduled a few more creampuffs we’d have a prettier record.

Note, i’m not crazy enough to say Alabama wasn’t a legit national champ last year. Of course they were. But if you’re going to run your mouth about a specific subject, you better be correct.

Also i’m not talking ancient history or way in the future years that could easily look alot different by the time they get here. I’m talking Richt and Saban era.

So basically, you simply refuse to answer the question, to identify what college team you DO pull for. I believe your true agenda would be a lot more clear in that simple answer, than all the BS you invented to cover it up.

Love to see Mett end up at a school that has a chance to win it all. I’d go to Louisville with Strong. He will have a great defense, and Mett can beat up on Georgia and prove Richt wrong.

Ya’ll just mad cause that one bama fan made ya ll look like dang fools. Come to think of it he right. Don’t think I ever seen dogs play a heavyweight team from another conference in reg season. Naw. Aint ever seen it. Always play middle of road mediocre teams but none of the big boys. Go Vols. 3 out of 4 in case you wondering and yeah we always played big time teams over the years just like the bammers. Dogs can never say that they ever played a big big time team in regular season. Can’t sayit cause it aint true.

Mett can prove Richt wrong, Richt said Mett would not have been the #1 EVEN if he wouldn’t have been kicked off the team. If Mett outperforms Murray, and goes on to greatness, Richt was wrong in thinking Murray was better than Mett, for saying Mett would not have been good enough to be #1 on UGA’s depth chart.

What is the deal about mett playing against the second team defense. the passes he threw were on the money and no defense could have stopped them 1st or 2nd team.. due to stupidity on his part we lost our best qb and he will surely be missed it is easy to say that he would not have been nr 1 anyway but before the season ended he would have long ago secured the starting qb position based on talent. Murray’s hands are not big enough to get a grip on the ball like mett can you see mett has these long fingers—-

I wish Zack Mettenberger well, dude really screwed up, and I hope for his sake he can straighten his life out. “Look Alive” Aaron Murray’s hands are so small that scout had him rated #2 in the nation at QB………But then again “Look Alive” you are so much smarter than the folks at scout, perhaps you should start “Look Alive college football recruiting” …………………….Big Dawg, Big Dawg, Big Dawg………….stupid is as stupid says, and you says some stupid stuff………….WOW……Can’t believe all the desperate football fans out there with their heads in the clouds this time of the year!………..Frankly, I don’t give a rats rear end what the so called experts say about any top 25 or 30 this time of the year !!! Hell folks……..We are four months, or around 120 days before the first kick-off of the 2010 season !……..Good Greif !!…………..About all I can say about the 2010 season at this point, is Florida will be good, although not as good as 2009, Alabama will also be good, but will probubly finish 5-7th in the final standings………We are probubly in store for some major surprises this season………And one will be the University of Georgia Bulldogs…..Yup, them DOGS gonna bite some folks, and ain’t never gonna let go !!………SIC’ ‘EM………WOOF……WOOOF………WOOOF……WOOOF !!!!

UGA football is going down the tubes. I look for another mediocre season maybe a 6-6 finish with another mid tier bowl game. How did we get in this mess? CMR is too soft on these punks they recruit. We are also losing all the top state talent to other schools.

Uh, NO. Richt said that Murray had a better 15 day mini camp in the spring of his RS freshman year than Metterberger did. Nothing is going to prove him wrong on that, short of turning back the hands of time. He never said anything that amounted to his predictions about Mettenberger’s college career. In fact made a point to say he was only putting out a spring depth chart, not even a starting lineup. There are several #1s in that chart whom might not be a starter, and certainly will eventually give way to guy under them over time. To me the obvious flaw in your logic is thinking that Richt was trying to rank who did what in THIS system. I rather doubt he was predicting how Mett might do someplace else. As I said from the beginning, he might actually be better off someplace else. The question is, why would you take personal delight in Mettenberger proving Richt “wrong’ in the first place? What’s you agenda in that? My guess is that has way less to do with a kid named Mettenberger, and alot more to do with Georgia losing at something.

Sad Dawg thanks for that insight and wisdom..and Sad Dawg just a sad fact Georgia has a average of 100+ kids leave HS to play D-1 football EVERY year…and UGA has what 10-20 slots to offer…sad fact is we can’t take all of them. But your bright outlook for the upcoming season I’m sure will inspire the entire Bull Dog nation.

Look alive, I don’t think the deal about playing against second team defense had anything to do with it being easier to throw the ball against those players. (although I think some folks tried to draw that conclusion) A beautifully throw ball is a beautifully thrown ball. I think the point is more what they were doing against him. How difficult was it to read the defense. Especially the #2. You could script the defense to the point that a walk-on QB could step up throw some pretty passes.

I am not saying that Mett couldnt read the defense. Obviously all of them are learning, and its just a matter of degrees now. But the point that he looked really good against the second team defense in the G-day game is that the only conclusion you can draw from that is, just that. But we dont play everybodies second string defense who will promise to never show anything but a base vanilla formation.

I would venture a guess that since the G-day game was so scripted, and the new DC showed nothing, the other two closed scrimmages would have been a better full speed, mix it up, work on actually installing a real defense, guage as what QB was checking into the correct play.

When is someone going to be honest with the facts that, Mettenberger the “adult”, has been a loose cannon since he was a “child” in high school? The only reason he got a second look with his previous high school behavior is that a parent works for the UGA Athletic Department. Word on the street is that he had behavior problems involving baseball bats and kicking people. The majority of alumni, fans and everyday people support laws, gov’t agencies and non-profits that prosecute defendants that are charged with similar crimes against women. However, coaching staffs, athletic departments and naive parents defend and cover-up these “adult student athletes” behavior issues for a potential win. Higher education is not a right, but an honor after achieving the grades AND conducting yourself properly. Why can’t we demand and expect UGA to recruit students with grades and history of proper conduct to beat the competition in the classroom, on the field and after college. If we just demand and expect the professional, ethical behavior that is taught and demanded in the classroom, their faith will follow on a private and personal level. I hope Mettenberger is on the side of the road doing community service every fall saturday this year. If we are not going to treat college athletics like an extension of the classroom, raise the importance of adult college athlete graduation rates then treat it like the “sporting event” it has become. I’ll trade some loses at the “excuses for the fall alumni tailgate & socials” for academic rankings of UNC and Georgia Tech. Never been asked in a job interview what a team record was during my college years. Tired of some UGA athletes devaluing my good degree!

The Mettenburger needs help or will continue being our problem in the future via the court system!
