Might Mettenberger play against the Dogs in Sanford Stadium next year? (UPDATED)

(Updated 5 p.m. Wednesday)

Former Georgia quarterback Zach Mettenberger hopes to play football at another college. And Louisville is one place he’ll look, according to a website that covers the Cardinals.

After pleading guilty to misdemeanor sexual battery charges in Valdosta on Monday, Mettenberger said in a written statement that he hopes for “a second chance to compete at another university in the nation.” The Scout.com site that covers the Louisville program, InsideTheVille.com, reported Tuesday that its sources say Mettenberger is expected to visit Louisville later this month.

This could get interesting, if anything comes of it.

Mettenberger would be required to sit out the 2010 season under NCAA transfer rules, but do you know who Louisville is scheduled to open the 2011 season against?

Georgia.

In Sanford Stadium.

The Dogs and Cards also are scheduled to play in 2012 in Louisville.

UPDATE: Former Georgia football player Kelin Johnson reports on his website, kelinjohnson.com, that Mettenberger said  he has scholarship offers from Louisville and Cincinnati as well as “heavy interest and calls from other colleges and universities, including the University of Tennessee, USC, Texas A&M, UK, Troy, Memphis and Colorado.” Johnson’s website is here.

——–

Former Georgia safety Reshad Jones made a good first impression in the Miami Dolphins’ rookie mini-camp, according to this story in the Palm Beach Post.

——–

If you missed it, Georgia’s men’s and women’s tennis teams yesterday learned their first-round draws for the NCAA Championships. The men’s team will open against UNC Greensboro on May 15 in Athens and the women’s team against Harvard on May 14 in Clemson, S.C.

Second-round winners on the men’s and women’s sides will converge in Athens from sites around the country for the round of 16 through the finals.

——–

Georgia is nowhere to be found in SI.com’s Andy Staplespost-spring college football Top 25. Nor are the Bulldogs in his five who “just missed the cut.”

And in yet another post-spring Top 25, Georgia is No. 23 in ESPN College Football Live’s ranking.

I for one wish Mett all the best at Louisville or any team he can find to give him a shot. He fugged up in a major way. His most damaging was not telling Richt the whole truth and in essence a lie. For that he earned his walking papers and cost him a future at UGA. He is paying the Piper. It’s a wake up call for Mett and he has no one to blame but himself. Hopefully, he will change his behavior and get his life on track.

As for SI and their latest poll, who really cares. They picked UGA number 1 and where did we finish. Any mention by SI and Staples is a curse. For me, the fact that he left us out of the top 25 is quite the blessing. They are never right anyway. The best poll prognosticator IMO would be Phil Steele. He actually has a method to his madness and he is only right half the time.

Sports Fans:

Have you ever noticed that the number one goal of Alabama graduates, is to move to Georgia? Seriously. “If” there is such a thing as an educated person from Alabama, their new address will not be within the state of Alabama.

We have more Alabama lovers in Georgia, than Mexicans. Although there is one difference. The Mexicans are more welcome, and have a much better manners.

If we all just kneel in the long shadow of Alabama’s excellence, will thier fans finally stop living in the Georgia sports blog?

Geez. Saban is a better football coach today than Mark Richt. hell he had a decade head start and worked for about a half dozen programs before Richt ever got his first Job. been at several large program, including 2 SEC, a couple of stinks in the NFL. He aught to be a pretty good coach by now.

I have no idea what in the world Bama fans feel the need to prop up thier program at the expence of putting somebody elses down. I can understand a few fews back when they were mired in a coupld of decades of funk, but Now. geez, if you can’t just be proud of a NC and leave it at that, somebody is in serious need of a little self-confidence.

Yea I know, its your duty to put UGA fan in thier place. Because goodness knows UGA fans talking about UGA in UGA blog takes something away from Alabama. I would think your absence would say more about that than your presence.

BTW, Mark Richt, while not quite up to speed with Saban today, is years ahead of schedule.

GEORGIA IS NOT A CHAMPIONSHIP PROGRAM. ALABAMA AND FLORIDA ARE. THE TIDE AND THE GATORS HAVE BETTER COACHES. LOUISVILLE COULD VERY WELL BEAT WHAT HAS BECOME AN AVERAGE RUN OF THE MILL SEC TEAM——GEORGIA.

[...] Georgia quarterback Zach Mettenberger might return to Athens — only in another uniform to stand on the opposite sideline. This is an odd — and perhaps ill-timed — mixture of [...]

According to the 2006 NCAA transfer rule, Mettenberg could play this season at a FCS school. That rule prohibits students with only one year of eligibility remaining from transferring and starting immediately at a FCS school. The rule intentionally benefits Div. II, as it allows such a transfer to play immediately with only 1 year of eligibility remaining.

Not knowing the details of Mettenberger’s probation, it may or may not allow him to live in another state.

Bama fan are you on crack all the time..you point out that UGA fans like to pick points in time..after pointing out we beat you in 02, and 03 for teams that were on probation..who is picking points in time…I made my statement that IF we play you guys this year for the SEC we will beat you like rented mules…and also that there is no team we don’t play every year that we would LOVE to play more than Bama…face NC are not you don’t scare us at all…Hell you don’t scare Auburn .

And someone actually PAYS this Andy Staples dillweed for this?? Anyone who has Boise St,TCU,Cinci,Utah,Houston & UCON consuming 25% of their ‘Top 25′ rankings should be bagging groceries. Noticed that Navy just missed the ‘cut’ lol. Not to mention, he ranked Ohio St. #3. Yeah, right. SEC. Nuff said. Not to mention that not only UGA was left out of his ‘Top 30′, but LSU was also left out of his ‘Top 25′. WOW, what an ‘expert’. I believe someone could draw names & come up with a better list than this.

How2fish – I think a lot of Dawg fans would like to play Bama but the “rented mule” comment is way over the top don’t you think? I don’t think most people would have us favored over the Tide let alone “beat them like rented mules” as you put it. Most people would say the reverse is more likely, although I think we could match up well with Bama and possibly come away with a win.

How sadly predictable the comments on here from the dog turd fans:

-Blast Mettenberger and claim he stinks because he got kicked off the team, when a few months ago he was the next coming of Matt Stafford.

-Blast SI for putting 5 ACC teams in the top 25 and only 3 SEC teams (none of which are UGA)

-Further blast SI for not crowning UGA preseason national champion (is there a trophy for that???)

1. Mettenberg was not a thug during recruiting, so invalid point.
2. Some folks would be very nice to a Rented Mule.
3. Mark Schlabach was a UGA grad, but is widely accepted as a guy who leans toward being overly critical of UGA because of that, and openly admit thats. Somebody reference any article or opinion that he was EVER expressed concerning UGA that was based on his homerism.
4. I see the use of “let’s” would indicates that you represent yourself to be a UGA fans. Now why are you so delusional, and do you not have the option to be less so?

Notice that Bama fans only really know 3 things about college football?

1) They have 13 legit titles (even though in ‘41 they finished 3rd in the their conference, and the fact that their 5 pre- Bear titles were claimed in the ’80’s….35+ years after those seasons were played)

2) Bear Bryant is God (even though he preached “have class” and former players knew he was a drunk)

3)RTR is a great way to avoid misspelling Roll Tide Roll for all the stupid bammers out there.

How2fish,

I would love to beat the bammers like a rented mule. However, please be realistic. As it stands now we are clearly not on the same level as them. And when you say you honestly feel we would whip them bad you really are playing into the oft repeated mantra that dawg fans are delusional. The only people around that think we would have a chance against them are some of us Georgia fans. Nobody else would favor us against them. So what if a couple of their loudmouths want to gloat. There is an old saying. It aint bragging if you can do it and they did it all last year. Let them run their friggin mouths for a year or 2. What we have to worry about is building towards next year and the year after that. In those years we do play the bammuhs as I like to call them and we will have a fighting chance. In the meantime they do have braggin rights over us and everyone else. Just ignore them. Football programs go up and down and we’re just a little down right now but will be right back up in 2011 and 2012. Go dawgs!

I wish Mettenberger nothing but the best. He showed very poor judgement under the influence of alcohol. Hopefully, he will learn that consuming alcohol is very dangerous for him and avoid it in the future (even after the probationary period.)

He is going to be a good quarterback somewhere.

Bama Fan – Ok State with Dez Bryant was a legit team. Big 12 teams aren’t bad but they aren’t SEC worthy due to depth. For a second example look at how Oklahoma did once Bradford got injured, or how Texas looked once McCoy went down. Ok State’s fortunes were very much tied to their 1 superstar player.

We’ve also recently played Arizona State, Colorado, Boise State and Clemson.

Plus Ga Tech every year.

If you think Alabama’s OOC schedule holds a candle to that, i’ll just leave you to your fantasy about what would happen if Bear Bryant and Nick Saban could be co-coaches of your team and Stallings as a coordinator.

As a man of “reality” I would think that you are aware that:

The vast majority of sport fans, I don’t care that the colors, are pretty level headed and don’t really have unreasonable expectation from year to year. Some years thier hoping might exceed the results, some year thier team pleasantly surprises them, all years they pull for them even if admittedly beyond what is logical on paper, but for the most part UGA fans, like others, are informed and realistic.

The lunitic fringe that claims to think they are entitled to ae better sports team than anyone else simple based on the fact of thier fandom are either dumb as rocks, 12 yrs old, or frankly doing so out of pure satire too. I suppose it’s possible that a grown man actually believes they represent the “mass”es. I don’t know any that would, but possible.

Pointing out the “reality” to the 95% of us fans who know just as much as you do and really don’t need the advice, especially when its just so predictably negative to the point of vapidity, is not the act of a well adjusted person, is it?. Certainly one who brags of thier wordliness. As far as “display and difuse” anything, I guess. You really are taking it to the BS that is put out to get under your skin of rivals if not outright make fun of them in a sports blog. Yea…Good job.

It looks to me like you spend an awful lot of time on a project that doesnt exist you are simply making up excuses for your own personal pacification.

Now if we looked up the word “delusional”, would that be pretty close to the definition?
