Might Mettenberger play against the Dogs in Sanford Stadium next year? (UPDATED)

(Updated 5 p.m. Wednesday)

Former Georgia quarterback Zach Mettenberger hopes to play football at another college. And Louisville is one place he’ll look, according to a website that covers the Cardinals.

After pleading guilty to misdemeanor sexual battery charges in Valdosta on Monday, Mettenberger said in a written statement that he hopes for “a second chance to compete at another university in the nation.” The Scout.com site that covers the Louisville program, InsideTheVille.com, reported Tuesday that its sources say Mettenberger is expected to visit Louisville later this month.

This could get interesting, if anything comes of it.

Mettenberger would be required to sit out the 2010 season under NCAA transfer rules, but do you know who Louisville is scheduled to open the 2011 season against?

Georgia.

In Sanford Stadium.

The Dogs and Cards also are scheduled to play in 2012 in Louisville.

UPDATE: Former Georgia football player Kelin Johnson reports on his website, kelinjohnson.com, that Mettenberger said  he has scholarship offers from Louisville and Cincinnati as well as “heavy interest and calls from other colleges and universities, including the University of Tennessee, USC, Texas A&M, UK, Troy, Memphis and Colorado.” Johnson’s website is here.

——–

Former Georgia safety Reshad Jones made a good first impression in the Miami Dolphins’ rookie mini-camp, according to this story in the Palm Beach Post.

——–

If you missed it, Georgia’s men’s and women’s tennis teams yesterday learned their first-round draws for the NCAA Championships. The men’s team will open against UNC Greensboro on May 15 in Athens and the women’s team against Harvard on May 14 in Clemson, S.C.

Second-round winners on the men’s and women’s sides will converge in Athens from sites around the country for the round of 16 through the finals.

——–

Georgia is nowhere to be found in SI.com’s Andy Staplespost-spring college football Top 25. Nor are the Bulldogs in his five who “just missed the cut.”

And in yet another post-spring Top 25, Georgia is No. 23 in ESPN College Football Live’s ranking.

Something tells me that this will not be Mettenberger’s only run-in with the law. He’ll probably get in trouble again and end up playing D III ball somewhere

Not worried about Mett playing at Louisville. He should be more worried than us. If he’s a slow moving qb, he’s going to bet running for his life against Grantham’s D and qb blitz packages….

Andy Staples is wrong quite often with his assumptions.

At least Andy Staples admits he’s an idiot. How could you leave out Arkansas…? Arkansas is going to be downright SCARY this year and my pick to win the SEC West, mark it down. Better yet, put $20 on the line and thank me next January….

Preseason rankings mean nothing. Let’s see where we are when the BCS poll rolls around. The only thing I can say about Mett is that I know his momma taught him better than to go around doing things to embarrass her, the school and women as a whole. There used to be such a thing as a Southern Gentleman, perhaps now a endangered species.
Big ups to Murray for keeping his head down and putting in the work.

SI has never predicted anything right. They are the worst at covering college football. So, them leaving UGA out is no big surprise to me. You know, UGA has a pretty easl schedule next year. I don’t think it is possible for them to play worse than last year.

Who cares where you are in the preseason! We have to earn that respect back. Good luck to Mettenberger, maybe he learned a valuable lesson from all this.

SI has nice articles but predictions are not one of their strong points. Has not been in decades. Maui Dawg….Arkansas might be good but a coward like Petrino will never lead them to a championship. He just does not have the moral compass to lead.

Mett can’t win by himself…..Louisville has been in decline for a while.

My bet is that he goes to a top tier FCS school and plays immediately.

Hey, not that I think it will really turn out this way, but Andy Staple’s SI column referenced above has 5 ACC teams in the top 25 as compared to only 3 SEC teams. And from my opinion, what’s really scary is not that he has the SEC teams rated too low, but the ACC teams rated too high. That leaves lots of spots open for the Mid-Majors. Wow ….

Our Dawgs are a little “tainted’ by the National press because of the last two years and laying 2 or 3 eggs on National TV in some big games. We have to prove on the field. We have slipped to the “show me” mode with the National folks. The “brand’ is tarnished.

Good luck to Mett.
Pre season team rankings cost many teams a legit shot of the NT. Pre season rankings are fine, they should just be thrown out at the start of the season and started again after 2 or 3 games have been played and we have seen who’s good and who’s not.
Example: Georgia ranked 1 in pre season rankings in 08 until it was shown we had no defense.

thanks UGA.for James Carpenter and Chance Warmack. Auburn Appreciates Ed Christian, and UT appreciates Jujuan James. We also appreciate you moving Bean Anderson and Kiante Tripp from the offensive line, and making them back up defensive lineman! Only at UGA! Could Richt and BOOBOO send us their ring sizes ? they’re a big reason we’re going to win a second national title.

Mett does not have the character to play for UGA but he does to play for someone else. This could go down equal to Richt’s decision to hand Willie the DC job. A pretty tough shot for an 18 year old inexperienced with alcohol.

As much as I would like to see Mett get it together and move on with his life, it does seem odd that another major school would be willing to pick him up so quickly. He comes with some major baggage I’d say.

Also, isn’t he on probation for a year? Can he live out of state during that time???

Really?

What’s wrong with this picture? Mett’s offenses were so egregious as to get kicked off the team at UGA, but Louisville rushes in to sign him before the ink dries on his guilty plea?

I’m all for Mett getting another chance, but I thought schools might wait a year to see if he keeps his nose clean.

I guess we can see early on what kind of program Charlie will be running. In taking such a chance on Mett, players already on the team know the sky’s the limit on anything they can get away with. . .

Wonderdawg you dont know what you are talking about. Reshad just quoted Willie M. by always keeping the ball in front of you. Like it is ok to give up a 40 yard pass, just not the 55 yard TD. Reshad hurt his own status by forgetting how to wrap up a tackle and having average cover skills. He is going to get burt by speed WR’s often.

5 ACC teams? He should lose his job for that one. Ever since FSU started to decline the ACC has been horrendous. Charater is not a prerequisite for a football scholarship to Georgia. Richt’s lawyers tried to cover up Mett’s record, which is why Mett participated in spring practice. When the consigliari were unsuccessful, Richt and Adams pulled the trigger.

Tech stunk it up in the Orange Bowl so bad, that Fedex has declined to further sponsor the bowl. I guess they don’t want their fine brand associated with the pitiful showing of fan support and the poor performance from the team at Tech. Only Techies could run off the longest tenured sponsor of a BCS game and then come on a UGA blog and try to diss the Dawg program. Those in glass houses…
