QB Gray meets with Richt; no decision yet on transfer (UPDATED)

(Updated 8 p.m.)

Logan Gray, Georgia’s No. 2 quarterback, met Monday with coach Mark Richt to discuss his status on the team and the possibility of transferring to another school.

Gray remained with the Bulldogs as of Monday night, associate athletics director Claude Felton said, but “he is weighing options for the remainder of his playing career.”

The uncertainty about Gray’s future surfaced four days after Richt revealed the Bulldogs’ post-spring depth chart, which has Gray, a junior, behind redshirt freshman Aaron Murray at quarterback.

Richt’s dismissal of Zach Mettenberger from the team on April 18 left Murray and Gray as the only quarterbacks in the Georgia program until recruit Hutson Mason arrives this summer from Marietta’s Lassiter High.

So if Gray decides to transfer, that would leave a true freshman, Mason, as Murray’s apparent backup in the fall.

There was no indication Monday night that Gray has made a decision. He was not available for comment.

Gray has two years of eligibility remaining at Georgia but, under NCAA transfer rules, would have only one year to play if he moved to another Division I-A school. He would retain two years of eligibility if he transferred to a school in a lower division.

Richt said last week that Murray’s spot atop the depth chart does not guarantee he will be the starter in the Sept. 4 season opener against Louisiana-Lafayette.

Gray, from Columbia, Mo., was Georgia’s backup quarterback last season but played minimally behind senior starter Joe Cox.

Geez, now Georgia’s in the same sinking boat as Florida, 1 injury to a QB away to have a totally inexperienced QB back there.

Isn’t EVERY team in the SEC 1 QB injury away from having a nightmare of a situation? I don’t see a lot of experience on the SEC teams at the QB position. Am I missing something?

Just turn over the entire program to the Lady Dogs.

A.J. Green could pull a Hines Ward and play some QB if Aaron Murray happens to get hurt. Go ahead and transfer Logan… we can find someone else to fair catch punts. GO DAWGS!!!

No room on the QB depth chart, and most of his credits wouldn’t transfer. Gray is in Pre-Journalism.

If you are a QB and will sit on the bench, why stay at UGA?? It’s simple–good players want to play. Gray can transfer and start at a different school.

Last time I checked, the depth chart was not written in stone. If Logan Gray wants the starting job, he needs to earn it. All of you who criticize CMR seem to forget that he has put a lot of QB’s in the NFL (Weinke, Greene, Shockley, Stafford) and even helped Charlie Ward to a Heisman. If Stafford had stayed through his senior year, Joe Cox never would have been a discussion, and the transition to Aaron Murray would have been a lot easier. Gray needs to realize that if he can’t beat out a redshirt freshman, that he is probably not going to start in the NFL. He ought to stick around. As the saying goes, he is one snap away from being on the field.

Three weeks ago we had 3 great quarterbacks fighting for the starting role and options galore. Now we have 1 quarterback, no suitable backups, and six months to play another tough SEC schedule with an average O-line. You can blame fate, but at some point it ocmes back to coaching….Mett’s lapse in disicpline and Richt wasting nearly half the snaps in spring ball on him before ditching him…..the indecision on Gray….neglecting the second tier prospects…… Not bad luck, folks, bad coaching.

Let all the wantabe’s get the hell out of Athens! Go cry somewhere else, if Gray really feels this way, he is showing that he is not a TEAM PLAYER. He’s already played 6 or 7 downs too many at UGA anyway. If he thinks he is owed this honor to the starting QB, he is full of it! UGA is trying to rebuild, not give handouts anymore. Maybe he want wait until summer gets here, leave now!

Can you blame Gray! Buddy if I were you ..I would go to Furman or Georgia Southern etc and have another two yrs of eligibility. richt gave you the shaft . So give him the shaft!!!!!! Cox last yr could not even hit his receivers in full stride. Notice Green always coming back to the ball. Gray is a great ball player with speed, height and a rifle arm. We will miss you buddy If anyone truly looked at your playing time given to you and the plays called they would see what a true joke Bo Bo is. Bye the way Bo Bo’s days are numbered as well. With Grantham heading up the defense. there are no more excuses. All the pressure is on Bo Bo %$^# or get off the pot BooBoo! ! I apologize for the ineptness with Bo Bo and Richt.. You are gonna shine somewhere that will let you actually take command and get a fair shake!

Everyone in the SEC knows our players act like clowns and wannabe gangsta’s on the sidelines….open your eyes and ears and you’ll see it yourself. For all our prideful talk about Richt’s class and character, those are two things his teams have not possessed at uGA in the last four years. Logan Gray has behaved with class and loyalty to this point, and professionally no one could fault him for leaving. Richt wouldn’t even let Gray be a QB if Mett hadn’t gotten axed. So, I wish him luck.

Dawg?...gone!!!!

It’s understandable that some of my fellow Dawg fans are upset and hurt by Gray’s decision to transfer (word is, today’s meeting was just a formality and the die is cast). It’s called “sour grapes.” I wish him luck….some guys just love football and want to play….anywhere. If he had not been “threatened” with re-location to another position so often and openly, he might have stayed, but the coaches obviously lack faith in him and his ability at QB. I admire a guy who would rather start for a team and get bloodied up than a guy satisfied to stand on the sidelines all year just so he can wear a particular team’s colors. Rudy was a loser, folks, he played about one down. Big deal. I’d have admired him more if he’d started for Kent State or Slippery Rock.

For those saying Logan is a quitter, a loser, a primadona; you just don’t have a clue. How dare you? Many many other Elite 11 QB’s would fair catch punts for his coach and do whatever it takes to help the team? Not many….maybe none.

If half the Georgia players on the squad over the years had Logan’s attitude, we would have won 5 SEC championships instead of 2.

If Logan wants to transfer, don’t trash the kid. He’s been a good Dawg and we should all wish him the best.

You people saying otherwise need to just shut the hell up!

Logan Gray has outplayed Aaron Murray in the last TWO G-Day games. Gray led his team downfield with better decision making and consistent play during the G-Day game ten days ago. Seriously, folks, did anyone watch that game? Mettenberger clearly outplayed everyone, but he was not given a seoond chance even though formal charges have not even been decided. Now, Gray is deciding to leave since he was never given a REAL opportunity at winning the position despite having better statistics and play compared to the competition that remains.

Richt should have never named Murray or Gray as number one since there are only two QBs left with Mason coming in this summer. The QB competition should have been left open with the summer camp to resolve the question of who is the starting QB. Now, we have more “issues”. Bobo and Richt are not looking good in this one at all. Poor decision making continues to be a problem in Athens. Go Dogs!!

What stunt will uga pull this year in the florida game after a TD? In 2007, it was a big team taunting celebration in the endzone with a bunch of dancing and crotch grabbing, with richt cheering them on with his little clapping. In 2009, the dawg players were jumping around on the sideline like fools after a meaningless TD in the 3rd qtr., followed by a UF blowout. In 2010—something big is in store!!! remember: richt has “class!”

Seriously, what in the hell is going on in Athens? Every damn day it is something….arrest, kicked off team, quitting, changing positions, changing coaches…on and on it goes. Every year, every week some sort sludge comes out of A-town. Does anyone old enough remember this happening in the Dooley/Russell years? I sure as heck don’t.

I love the Dogs, but I don’t know…..something is amiss in Athens!

He is as good as gone……………he is a solid QB and wants to play football rather than sit the bench and watch Murray play while being relegated to 3rd string behind “super-star” Huston Mason.

He probably has realized there are better places for him to attend college and actually play football other than UGA. I say good luck Logan and enjoy the ride (also he should simply ignore the UGA fans that do not support his decision; he should do what is best for Mr. Logan Gray!).
