(Updated 8 p.m.)
Logan Gray, Georgia’s No. 2 quarterback, met Monday with coach Mark Richt to discuss his status on the team and the possibility of transferring to another school.
Gray remained with the Bulldogs as of Monday night, associate athletics director Claude Felton said, but “he is weighing options for the remainder of his playing career.”
The uncertainty about Gray’s future surfaced four days after Richt revealed the Bulldogs’ post-spring depth chart, which has Gray, a junior, behind redshirt freshman Aaron Murray at quarterback.
Richt’s dismissal of Zach Mettenberger from the team on April 18 left Murray and Gray as the only quarterbacks in the Georgia program until recruit Hutson Mason arrives this summer from Marietta’s Lassiter High.
So if Gray decides to transfer, that would leave a true freshman, Mason, as Murray’s apparent backup in the fall.
There was no indication Monday night that Gray has made a decision. He was not available for comment.
Gray has two years of eligibility remaining at Georgia but, under NCAA transfer rules, would have only one year to play if he moved to another Division I-A school. He would retain two years of eligibility if he transferred to a school in a lower division.
Richt said last week that Murray’s spot atop the depth chart does not guarantee he will be the starter in the Sept. 4 season opener against Louisiana-Lafayette.
Gray, from Columbia, Mo., was Georgia’s backup quarterback last season but played minimally behind senior starter Joe Cox.

LG contacted me about coming to a winning program, UT. However anyone that cannot beat out Joe Cox is obviously a dud. Which is why he should fit in well in Athens. I promise to open up a big can of whoop-azz for the UGA Bullpups in October. Don’t worry I won’t run the score up like Lame Kiffin did.

I agree with King Gator, this could give the green light to Lemay and a chance for him to bring the other top recruits with him. Might have to chalk it up to a rebuilding year if Murray gets hurt. Silver lining anybody?

If Gray does transfer, he is apparently on track to graduate this summer. If he does then he can go to a school that offers a graduate degree that Georgia does not offer and he will be able to play right away.
No transferring down to FCS or sitting out a year…

Dorsey Hill, you’re a good man, but Lewis would be disappointed in your ability to see reality. CMR made a living beating Vandy, Ky, South Carolina, and most of the bottom feeders, early on. How’s he doing now? Even Phat Phil had a great winning percentage just before he was terminated. And, look at Lloyd Carr’s record, too. As you know, we’re not paying Richt $3M for what he did in 2004, ‘05, ‘06, ‘07 ‘08, etc., we’re paying for present/future performance…at least I hope we are. And, bone-headed decisions like not firing Willie two years ago and hanging on to Bobo isn’t winning any converts. By the way, any new BBQ places open up near your home?

Folks this is only a problem if there is an injury.
It’s only a serious problem if there are two injuries.
If I remember correctly:
Johnny Unitas went down.
Gary Cuozzo went down.
Tom Matte went out there with *plays written on his wrist.
*[before it was SOP]
For the Colts’ regular-season finale (a 20-17 win) against the Los Angeles Rams and the following weekend’s one-game playoff at Green Bay (a 13-10 overtime loss resulting from a missed Packer field goal that was erroneously ruled good), Colts head coach Don Shula put a list of plays on a wristband that Matte wore. That wristband is now on display at the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
My Point:
Relax everything will be just fine.
Run the ball. [Ealey/king]
Play great Defense. [Grantham]
**Great kicking game/special teams become special [Belin].
**Walsh/Butler

Was the depth chart “released” or was Logan Gray “released”? I hope I read it correctly that the depth chart was released and Logan Gray is still a Bulldog for now, unless the rumor proves true that he is transferring.
I hope Gray stays, we need him. I hear reports Murray looked better than Gray in practice, but I went to G day and Gray was better than Murray. Gray took command and Murray looked nervous and out of synch. Murray may look better in practice, but the true test is how they play in front of a crowd, and at G day, Gray was better.

I also heard from a reliable source that Zach M was in Valdosta last week, passing for Coach Dean. Though it seems strange that he would return to the scene of the crime (and I heard from a VSU ADPi that he WAS “misbehaving” beyond drinking at Flip Flops in Remerton during Spring Break), it would be a heck of a note for Grey to leave UGA and go back-up Mettenburger somewhere else………

Somebody from the scout team would have to step up. Walk-on Ken Whisenhunt had to play QB in the Notre Dame game in 1980. Tech tied #1 Irish, 3-3. (That was the high point for the season for Tech; 1-9-1 record).

Don’t count on Murray getting hurt yet. You only can play one QB at a time and Murray was ranked in the top 3 nationally. We will be ok. Gray is showing his immaturity not being loyal, thinking that if he transfers he will actually get a chance at the pro’s. CMR was ranked as one of the best QB’S when he went to Miami and only played a few play his 4 year there, if any. He accepted his best contribution would be as support and learned to be a great coach. Gray will regret leaving by not accepting his limitations on the field and using all the resources available for being a UGA graduate for his next step in life.

Who is going to fair catch punts if Gray leaves?
If he does leave his legacy will be the INT to Spikes on a perfect strike and his lackluster attempt to tackle the Auburn kick returner. Best of luck.

I know you will say it is SEC vs ACC, but remember, Tech’s back-up quarterback just transferred when he was an injury away from being the starter. And this in a system where the qb is actually likely to get hurt. So don’t think it can’t happen. I would be surprised though. I would think that life at UGA as a backup QB would be better than life as a starter at Valdosta State. If this was a case of Murray vs Mettenburger, where each thought they had a possible shot at the NFL, then I might think otherwise. But with Logan, it would just be college football for football’s sake. So I guess it comes down does he enjoy life at UGA better than playing football somewhere not as nice. We will see…

Taylor – Tech has Tevin Washington-soph, and Jordan Luallen and David Sims, both scholarship redshirt freshmen behind Nesbitt. They are all QBs recruited for the CPJ offense. Jaybo Shaw would have been in a 4-way QB competition next year as a senior. Washington figures to have the inside track to start in 2011.
I think Shaw chose Ga. Southern because he gets to play in the same offense, and he wants to be a coach like his dad.

You can’t blame Logan if he transfers. He’s been INCREDIBLY loyal to Coach Richt. He threw the same amount of passes, same yp pass average, and 3x less int’s in the 3 scrimmages. He’s been willing to field punts. He beat out Murray over the 3 scrimmages, with a 2.0 td to int ratio compared to Murray’s .67 td to int ratio. 3x better.
He’s an Elite 11 QB.
Now you might rotate the 2 into a gameplan, but the idea of an Elite 11 QB sitting on the bench, when he outplayed the other guy by 3X better, is absurb.
Richt’s not been objective when he chose the QB depth chart.
Bet Richt is regretting letting Mettenberger go now over the beer drinking incident.

If Logan gray couldn’t beat out Joe Cox then what does that say? And if Logan is leaving the team because he felt he was better than Murray and he did better in the g day game then what does that say about murray’s ability? Not much. In fact not much at all. Dogs are in trouble at the most important position on the team.
