QB Gray meets with Richt; no decision yet on transfer (UPDATED)

(Updated 8 p.m.)

Logan Gray, Georgia’s No. 2 quarterback, met Monday with coach Mark Richt to discuss his status on the team and the possibility of transferring to another school.

Gray remained with the Bulldogs as of Monday night, associate athletics director Claude Felton said, but “he is weighing options for the remainder of his playing career.”

The uncertainty about Gray’s future surfaced four days after Richt revealed the Bulldogs’ post-spring depth chart, which has Gray, a junior, behind redshirt freshman Aaron Murray at quarterback.

Richt’s dismissal of Zach Mettenberger from the team on April 18 left Murray and Gray as the only quarterbacks in the Georgia program until recruit Hutson Mason arrives this summer from Marietta’s Lassiter High.

So if Gray decides to transfer, that would leave a true freshman, Mason, as Murray’s apparent backup in the fall.

There was no indication Monday night that Gray has made a decision. He was not available for comment.

Gray has two years of eligibility remaining at Georgia but, under NCAA transfer rules, would have only one year to play if he moved to another Division I-A school. He would retain two years of eligibility if he transferred to a school in a lower division.

Richt said last week that Murray’s spot atop the depth chart does not guarantee he will be the starter in the Sept. 4 season opener against Louisiana-Lafayette.

Gray, from Columbia, Mo., was Georgia’s backup quarterback last season but played minimally behind senior starter Joe Cox.

Kirk you idiot, you don’t put electronic equipment anywhere near a hot tub. Being that you aspire to being an “Engineer” you should know that.

Everything I read about UGA makes me ashamed to have a state university with such a sleezy athletics department. We should fire everyone involved and start over with coaches who will only recruit respectable players who aren’t immoral drunks.

And this fellow Mark Richt has to be the first to go.

I’m not worried about who is going to back up Aaron Murray at QB. The most important question is who is going to fair catch our punts now????

How does it work with JUCO transfers? Would a JUCO about to “graduate” have paper in place with a 4-year school by this time, or can that be done only after the end of the school year?

Friends, countrymen, I tell you, the sky is falling, and Georgia football is coming down, in chunks, arrests, transfers, disunity, firings, get out while you still can.

So, Tim…..why are some blogs open for comment and others, not?

Well Jim, a long time ago in a more civilized era, newspapers actually wrote these “blogs” that they called a story or an article. In this era they only printed news that was important or relevant to other people. They had these printed on a piece of paper and sold them to people. If you wanted to comment on a story you had to find someone who gave a rip what you thought about the news or you could just talk to yourself.

Now, since newspapers have decided to give their product away for free online, they have to generate “page-hits” in order to sell fractions of pennies worth of advertising. So this particular paper has noticed that UGA is popular and the only thing more popular is for other school fans to make fun of UGA. So they search high and wide for any story remotely conected to UGA in order to post something you will click on. Then once you’ve read that story you have to make another page click or two to find a space to comment on the story. So by spreading out the content they can get you to click more pages than if they simply let you comment on every story.

The real sad part in all of this is that Journalistic integrity has fallen by the wayside. Instead of letting non-violent misdemeanors fade into the obscurity they deserve, they put them in prominent places on their website where actual news should go.

Wow.

Put yourself in Gray’s shoes. Your a former highly touted recruit, in year 3 at the program, you outperform a freshman in the Spring Game (didn’t see it, but the stats seem clear enough), and you start the fall behind on the depth chart to only the second best freshmen quarterback option the team had before the other guy got booted.

Is there much more the coach could do to indicate that he has no faith in you as his starting QB?

It’s not like the kid grew up in Georgia listening to Munson and dreaming of suiting up for the Dawgs – I assume he came all the way from Missouri because he thought he could be UGA’s QB. Hate to see Georgia end up so thin at QB, but hard to blame the kid for thinking about transferring.

Tim Tucker, sir :

How convenient that responses are closed to the # 94 Arrest / Suspension in the 1st 9-Years of the Coach Richt Era.

Redshirted last season, listed as # 3 in the Depth Chart on the OL released by Coach Richt just 2 days ago, yet ANOTHER – the # 94 Arrrested / Suspended Georgia Bulldogs’ Football Player in the Coach Richt Era, 38 in the last 3 years alone according to David Halle last week, is in the Negative News.

Congratulations.

For a program in 2010 who last even went to The SEC Championship Game in 2005, this is not good news. 4 since Spring Practice have been Arrested / Suspended and 3 of the 4 have been kicked off the team.

I was wrong.

I said May 5 the next Georgia Bulldogs’ Football Player on this roster and on this Depth Chart just relased 2 days ago by Coach Richt, would be arrested.

April 27, and I am wrong.

May 27, the 85th Georgia Bulldog Player Arrested / Suspended in the 9-Year Coach Richt Era will be Arrested / Suspended.

1 a month for 9 years running Arrested / Suspended.

I have the URL Links for the last 38 in the just the last 3 years.

And, I have the URL Links for the 94 Arrested / Suspended in the Coach Richt Era.

Available for those of you who think this goes on at every school.

Not 94 Arrested / Suspended in the 9-Year Coach Richt Era, it does NOT go on at other schools at this # 94 Arrested / Suspended in the only 9-Year Coach Richt Era, it does not.

Wrong.

Ed.

This is Logan Gray’s 4th year in this system this year he just started.

Logan Gray has completed 0 passes for touchdowns. He has completed 5 total passes in his 4th year now, and has thrown 2 Interceptions, one of those to a wide open best defender on the Florida football team who has beat us 17 of the last 20 for a TD for the defense against Logan Gray.

He also OPENLY criticized the offensive coaching staff at UGA in the newspapers repeatedly.

But, then again so too has EVERYONE else.

Except for patrick M. Sulley.

ugaaccountant, sir or madam as the case may be,

Since just Spring Practice started THIS SEASON, our would be Starting Quarterback reached his hand up the skirt of a college girl not working at the bar in Valdosta (Remerton.)

Then, the next week, the # 1 Football Recruit in the state of Indiana for all football players at all positions and one of the top recruits in the nation at his position, beat up his little girlfriend AGAIN, violating his PROBATION for his earlier arrest for beating her up, a student at UGA.

Then last week a guy who had 3 punts in the G-Day game hit a guy in the face for all to see and was arrested, drunk.

All 3 were THROWN OFF THE TEAM by Coach Richt.

But, according to you, ugaaccountant, these are NON-VIOLENT MEANINGLESS CRIMES.

Then, last night a 4th player listed on Coach Richt’s Official April 2010 Depth Chart, was charged with DUI and suspended / arrested.

Which 1 of these 4 is the NON-VIOLENT meaningless crime you refer to please ?

I’m lost in your excuses.

Logan Gray can go to any other SEC or other Bowl Subdivision school and play the year after this, his 5th year.

Logan Gray can do to any other non Bowl Subdivision 1-A school and play this year his 4th including redshirt year, and play next year, his Redshirt Senior Year – like Georgia State or Georgia Southern, for example.

Our Graduation Rates are going down the tubes.

The NCAA gives the recruits 6 years to graduate. If they are in good standing academically, and transfer, it does NOT count against the school they transfer from in the official NCAA GSR Graduation Success Rate.

Zach Mettenberger and Montez Robinson, 2 of the highest rated recruits in the nation at their positions, obviously get The University of Georgia a Zero on Graduation Success Rate being KICKED OFF THE TEAM.

Coach Richt is already in the bottom half of The SEC in Graduation Success Rate, and is failling even further with this off-season turmoil, exactly the same as every other off-season turnoil here with an Arrest / Suspension once EVERY month for 9 years running.

This just proves that in today’s world, you better win big or players who are not receiving playing time will transfer.

UGA needs to start adjusting their recruiting philosophy. They need to start looking for players who want to be a part of the University of Georgia. Instead of looking for players who want to use the university as a stepping stone to the NFL.

I had it at 121.

There are a LOT more.

38 in the lasts 3 years alone according to David Hale, the best UGA Beat Writer in the nation at macon.com.

I went to the AJC front page and found this -

“NCAA passes over UGA’s Adams”

One of those bad news-bad news things. 1) He’s not leaving, and 2) He’s probably pi$$ed about the bad publicity from his athletics department that must have factored in the decision by the NCAA
