(Updated 8 p.m.)
Logan Gray, Georgia’s No. 2 quarterback, met Monday with coach Mark Richt to discuss his status on the team and the possibility of transferring to another school.
Gray remained with the Bulldogs as of Monday night, associate athletics director Claude Felton said, but “he is weighing options for the remainder of his playing career.”
The uncertainty about Gray’s future surfaced four days after Richt revealed the Bulldogs’ post-spring depth chart, which has Gray, a junior, behind redshirt freshman Aaron Murray at quarterback.
Richt’s dismissal of Zach Mettenberger from the team on April 18 left Murray and Gray as the only quarterbacks in the Georgia program until recruit Hutson Mason arrives this summer from Marietta’s Lassiter High.
So if Gray decides to transfer, that would leave a true freshman, Mason, as Murray’s apparent backup in the fall.
There was no indication Monday night that Gray has made a decision. He was not available for comment.
Gray has two years of eligibility remaining at Georgia but, under NCAA transfer rules, would have only one year to play if he moved to another Division I-A school. He would retain two years of eligibility if he transferred to a school in a lower division.
Richt said last week that Murray’s spot atop the depth chart does not guarantee he will be the starter in the Sept. 4 season opener against Louisiana-Lafayette.
Gray, from Columbia, Mo., was Georgia’s backup quarterback last season but played minimally behind senior starter Joe Cox.

Sadly Devin Burns should be in Athens already and not have been treated the way he was and we would have an insurance policy if Gray happens to leave. We really messed it up with Carver(Columbus).

Logan Gray is smart. If he stays in Athens he will become like Eric Zeier and a rapidly growing group of Dawg QBs who have the distinction of never beating the Gators. Get out now, Logan while you still have the chance!

I heard this rumor on Sunday but no one (AJC, Bleacherreport.com, etc.) would confirm it.
This issue started last year. Gray, and the Bulldog Nation, were told that he would be used in certain situations and run certain offensive sets. None of which occurred. Gray came in when we were down 20+ points late in the game, when everyone, including UGA VII knew we had to throw the ball. Of course, no success when the D knows the play in advance.
Now, he is one play (injury) away from being the starter, but that’s of little consolation to him at this point. We’ll see what happens…. don’t look for any of the walk-on/backups to be any help, nor will Hutson Mason, at least not until at least mid-season. Mason will need quite a bit of time to learn the offense.

This is good news for the poodles because it give Richt an excuse when John Brantley racks up 400 yards in the air and the Gators pick off four Murray throws. Richt can observe that “it would have been better if we could have put in another QB on a day when Aaron did not have his good stuff.”

Erk, can’t really deliver any disclipline to a football player much louder than kicking them off. I would say thats the ultimate and I am pretty sure that they heard it when their stuff was sitting outside the locker room. What would you have Richt do? Follow them around campus for few weeks hollering at them even after they arent on the team for good measure?

We have begun installing a practice field behind the Clarke County jail. This will allow all incarcerated UGA players to still participate in drills and practice. We are doing this as a personal favor to Coach Richt, who is going to start a prison ministry for the players as well. As football season approaches, we will work with Coach Richt to allow players probation to play on Saturdays whenever possible. I say its Great to be a Georgia Bulldog……except when you are locked up in my jail. Go Dawgs!

AND can we start to realize we are “suppose” to be an “elite program” and check ALL the other “elite programs” in the land and they are ALL concerned about reaching and possibly winning National Championship games. Their supporters are not orgasmically supportive of a coach averaging 10 wins a year when the school last won a Championship in last months of James Earl Carter’s Presidency.

Its official……Shreveport will be holding the first annual UGA Bulldog appreciation day on Saturday June 26th. The UGA Bulldogs have done so much for the local economy by appearing in the Independence Bowl so many times over the past several years. Wahlid Patel, who owns the local Motel 6, said his business has increased steadily thanks to the fans from Georgia. He added he does wish they would not pack 12 into a single room though. We know UGA fans will support the team again as they trek to Shreveport in December once again. Buy your UGA Appreciation Day tickets @ http://www.shreveportchamber.org/. Go Doggies!!!

I wonder if Orsen Charles still thinks it was a good idea to go to an institution because his “male friend”, Aaron Murray< was going there? Well, at least Marky Mark demonstrated he knows what is important by telling young master Orsen–By the way, who names kid Orsen in 1990?—"Son, you come to Georgia and you can wear # 7 and PLAY with Aaron."

ugadawgz, Wouldn’t you like to win a National Championship so that we can stop the BS. Florida does not quote their bowl record under Meyer. They show kids the crystal trophies.
Would you PLEASE look at the schedules Georgia has played since Richt got here. I think you will agree with the disparity between our talent and who we played that he damn well better have averaged the wins he did. That’s why we NEVER hear Richt in conjunction with the NFL. Have you ever wondered about that? NEVER have to worry about our coach going to the NFL–Is that a good thing, when you consider the number of coaches who have been mentioned for NFL positions??

I’d at least like to go to a school somewhere -even a smaller school, and have fun for at least a yr or two. It does put us in a bad position, but it is what it is.

We don’t need this type of selfish player. If he had talent, I could understand his prima donna attitude. Get out of Athens and down to Remerton. He was a good high school player but this ain’t high school son. At the least, CMR should suspend him for conduct unbecoming of a Bulldog!

I’ll tell you why Richt stock piles QB’s. He knows his coaches aren’t the best and hopes
one of the kids can excell all by himself with out much coaching. See M. Stafford, he would have been a 1st round NFL choice if he had played at Slippery Rock–Georgia needed him, he didn’t need Georgia.
It still amazes me why all these QB’s go to Georgia though——-just don’t get it.
