So what was it like, Aaron Murray’s first day on campus as Georgia’s No. 1 quarterback?
“It was cool,” Murray said Friday afternoon. “A couple of people said, ‘Congratulations.’ It was in the paper, I guess.
“It’s pretty cool. It’s exciting. It’s definitely something I’ve always looked forward to, taking this job. I’ve just got to keep working and make sure I solidify my spot for that first game of the year.”
Murray got another taste of the celebrity that comes with being Georgia’s quarterback when the school set up a mid-afternoon conference call Friday for him to speak with a half dozen reporters.
Coach Mark Richt announced Thursday that Murray is the No. 1 quarterback on the Bulldogs’ post-spring depth chart but cautioned that being the top Dog at this point doesn’t guarantee starting the season opener Sept. 4. Murray understands that caveat, even as he receives congratulatory calls and texts.
“I heard from family and friends who just said, ‘Congratulations thus far, just continue to work hard,’ basically stuff like that,” Murray said. “I’ve talked to my family, and they have the same feeling as I do –- it’s just one step and it’s not a done deal or anything like that.
“I’m No. 1 after spring. I’m not No. 1 for the season. I’m not No. 1 for Sept. 4. There’s still work to do, but they’re definitely happy for me, excited for me, that I’m doing well right now.”
Although Murray reached the top of the depth chart on the basis of his work throughout spring practice, he acknowledged that his performance in the G-Day intra-squad game was sub-par. He completed 10 of 22 passes for 96 yards, with one interception.
“I think I was maybe just a little amped up,” Murray said Friday. “I talked to Coach [Mike] Bobo about it, and he thought I was little juiced up, a little too excited, and some of my passes were a little overthrown.
“You’re not going to have your best day every day. It wasn’t great that . . . G-Day wasn’t my best day. But I think [the coaches] just basically took the spring as a whole and based their [depth-chart] decision on that. . . . Hopefully next [season] I won’t be making the same mistakes I made in the G-Day game.”
Murray, a redshirt freshman, said he plans a summer of hard work to prepare for preseason camp and to prove to teammates “that even though I’m young . . . I’m not going to let them down when the season comes.”

Congrats Aaron, I know he’ll go out and prove all your critics wrong by not throwing more than 5 interceptions in 2010. Just protect the ball, and everything else will work out. Don’t let Georgia beat Georgia, make the other team battle for every yard, and every point. Eliminate the dumb plays.

I’m hoping for the best during the first few games of the season. G-Day is nothing like the first game of the year and the second game being against SC. If he’s “amped up” in fron of 35K plus crowd, I’d hate to see what it will be like during the first few games. Hope those boys who “Run This State” will be ready to carry most of the load.

The guy looked good in his release, just very fast. He’s also very smart and had excellent reads in the Spring scrimmages. I’m sure he’ll learn how to checkdown to alternative routes better, but overall, he might be the best guy that’s ever played QB for Georgia. Gerogia fans are really lucky to have Aaron Murray, over 50 teams offered him, and he chose Georgia. Could eb the start of a long, successful partnership. Pretty impressed the way this guy led his team to a state championship at a very tough division.

Colt McCoy on Aaron Murray:

Gator fans—very worried about brantley and the lack of any offensive stars to get the ball to. They have no proven receivers and their RBs are mediocre at best or little scat backs. The Georgia D will shut down the florida D—Grantham’s got the date of the florida game circled on his calendar—he will have the team focused to stop the spread—bank on it! Georgia will win the east this season. Florida’s run is over.

Was the sky falling? Nah, Richt finished #2 in 2002, and #3 in 2007.
Now, in 2009, Richt goes 8-5, and “the sky is falling” starts up again.
Richt’s heard it all before, been there, done that.

How could this possibly be decided in April ? But the humiliating point is that it is. How could all these dozens of Richt-recruited QB’s have a freshman as #1 and so many #2’s ? This guy may be the next Stafford by the 9th or 10 game but its what takes place during the first 8 games that counts. Probably 5 wins, 3 losses and another year of obscurity and back to the old “wait til next year” line. Gray may start games 1 and 2 out of senior respect but by the end of game 3 UGA will have a full-time fresh QB. Scarry.

Every year, the illiterate imbeciles come out of the woodwork and blabber about 14-0 seasons: “We’re loaded with talent”, “This is the year”, etc. It’s always “We” at this point….
And then every year, the season takes a skid somewhere and the blame begins. Blame the refs, blame Willie, blame Bobo, blame St. Mark, blame various players, blame the lack of discipline. The discipline issue is a direct result of St. Mark’s time at Miami and FSU. At this point the “We” becomes “They”.
Hilarious
It’s been thirty years. And that championship belongs to Herschel. Without him (them), you would still be waiting.

a Freshman QB can’t win a National Championship and start every game, right?
in 1981, a qb won parade all-american, he was redshirted in 1982 when the team went a lackluster 7-4.
No one thought Miami could win it all in 1983 with a Freshman QB.
This freshman started all 12 games his freshman year at Miami. Bernie Kosar.
1983 Miami won their 1st National Championship, 300 yards passing, 2 td’s in Natl Champ, with a freshman QB.
By the way, Murray, like Kosar:

Nobody beats Richt but Richt. When Richt commits 0 turnovers, Richt is 15-0. You can’t beat him straight up, nobody can, he’ll outcoach you. So people recently have gone to the ‘force turnover’ strategy. And it’s worked in the past. Florida has been the best at using this one secret strategy to beat Richt. 14 to’s against Florida in the last 4 games. But Richt beats Meyer when Richt wins the turnover battle. Only Richt beats Richt. In the last 5 games, Richt stopped making turnovers for the most part, showing he figured it out. And over the last 5 games, Georgia started running the ball as a top 5 rushing team in the country, over 200 yards rushing a game. That’s why 2010 will be different. Richt FINALLY figured it out, and made the adjustment, and teams stopped beating him.

The best way yo make sure the fans don’t turn on you is to win every game. Richt has a great record against every team on our schedule in 2010 except Florida.
If we can just not turn that ball over in that game, should win em’ all. Florida hasn’t been a better team against Georgia, just better at the turnover margin.
Probably play Auburn or Alabama in the SEC Championship– Richt is 7-1 against those 2 teams.

Everybody…re-read ’smart dawg’ @ 10:45PM. I agree.
First, we gotta win the first two games (the first game doesn’t really count; AA ball). Dont’ forget, other teams have great players too. Badmouthing Brantley doesn’t get it; he wasn’t any worse than Murray in the Gators spring game.
I’m just saying, be careful with predicting 12-0, beating Flawduh, winning the East, etc. We’ve got unproven QB’s and an unproven D. And don’t get too excited about the 3-4 D until it’s proven that we have the players that fit that scheme. I’m just saying, don’t get too hyped and then start the blame game if things don’t look so cherry.
Hopefully we WILL go undefeated; beat Flawduh; and play for the SEC championship, etc etc. Who knows?

The dogs have added three quality defense coaches that dramatically up-grade the play of the dogs on that side of the ball. I remember the late 60’s and Erk on the sidelines. I do feel we have a DC that will coach the players up and bring an energy that the defense needs in the SEC. Let’s win the games and the dogs will be rewarded with appropriate rankings and recruits.

Here we go again. Murray is not the answer!! I was at G-Day last year and this year and he was the worst of all QBs. Heck this year I thought it was Joe Cox on the field, but realized he was making pop corn. Guess Murray cut Mr. Screen Pass (BoBo) grass better than Gray did. We wont win the east, SEC, or National Championship. CMR should have sent BoBo with Willie out the door. Watch he will have AJ Green hurt with his famous screen pass. Toni Ball called a better game than he did at G-Day.

the sky is falling. UGA will be lucky to win 1 game this year. Coach Richt has never had a bad year followed by a good year. All the experts on Murray are wrong, including McCoy, what does he know about QB’s? Coahc Richt got lucky with his 90 wins. Murray had a bad G-Day, no one has ever had a bad G-Day and gone on to become a good QB. Georgia had 3 players arrested and kicked off the team in last few weeks, proves bad kharma is in the air. Coach Richt has never won a Championship at Georgia and no coahc has ever gone on to win one who didn’t in their first 9 seasons. Florida’s new QB will be better than Tebow, and their new defensive coach, will be better than Strong was, Alabama will receover fine from losing 9 starters on defense, so it’s a 1-11 year for Coahc Richt. Should win the first gamer, then it’s all downhill from there.

Murray is a lot taller than everyone saying—he’s at last 6 feet and maybe taller—plus, he’s got a strong arm and can move around in the pocket. Murray’s going to put up big numbers in bobo’s offense—take it to the bank. The Dawgs will upset florida—they are way down this year with a shaky QB and no good receivers.

There’s so many problems with Georgia this year. Mainly, Florida. This Georgia coach has not shown he can beat Florida more than once every 4 or 5 years, so it’s another few bad years ahead because he’ll need to wait until 2011 or 2012 to get to the 4 or 5 year gap between Florida victories. Add that to having a freshman QB, ongoing problems with penalties, turnovers, arrests, a brand new defense to learn, probems coevering kick offs, thin at QB and WR, and it’s all dark, dark skies over Athens.

New recruit safety from Atlanta is in big trouble in Knoxville, for public drunkeness and stupidity and resisting arrest. Coach Dooley will be measured by his alumni and all UT supporters on how he deals with this incident. He needs right now to set them on a straight and narrow course like UGA is doing. Can he do it and man up??? First test he is faced with.
Now …………will UT do to that kid what UGA did with the two or three punks that they have thrown off the team this spring? If ALL schools will throw these thugs out on the grabage pile of history, then we could reign it all in within two years. Be straight or you are gone would be the universal message to these punks.

Here is another WONDERFUL FACT: UGA is the only school to win at least 8 games for 13 and soon to be 14 years in a row. If this recorod is not so great ………..then whey is UGA the ONLY SCHOOL to achieve this victory milestone?

Murray is basically another Joe Cox. He’ll look good occasionally, but he’ll lose games too. UGA won’t remotely be in the same quality class as the real contenders Florida and Alabama.
If he can stay out of jail (50-50 odds), THUGA could be 8-4, but they won’t be playing for the SEC in Atlanta, so forget that pie-in-the-sky stuff right now. Arrests will start piling up, and there will be massive cries for Richt’s job.

HEY DAWG NATION: HERE IS OUR TOUGH AZZ SCHEDULE. LET’s BREAK IT DOWN:
Sep. 4 vs. Louisiana-Lafayette TBA = JOKE OF A TEAM (We win and are 1-0
Sep. 11 at South Carolina TBA = 9 starters return on offense and it’s in Columbia with Spurrier = we lose 1-1
Sep. 18 vs. Arkansas TBA = Suxs with the exception of their 6-7 QB, We win as it’s between our smelly hedges = 2-1
Sep. 25 at Mississippi State TBA = Suxs = 3-1
Oct. 2 at Colorado TBA = Suxs, 3-9 last year and no better this year. We win this easy azz game as well and are 4-1. (Man this is a tough azz schedule, as we have not played a preseaon ranked team yet. Ok, let’s continue.
Oct. 9 vs. Tennessee TBA = Suxs, Kiffin is an idiot and UT suxs. = win as it’s between our smelly hedges again. Imagine that, we always play more games at home than other schools. Now we are 5-1 and all dawg fans are talking about a NC as usual. LMFAO!
Oct. 16 vs. Vanderbilt TBA = Pathetic, although they did beat your sorry azz team at homecming a few years ago, but we still win, as they suck. Still no ranked teams yet, so we are 6-1. Dawg fans are happy and talking about the NC, probably ranked 10th in the polls, which is way overated as usual, but don’t worry, we will fall like a rock. Let’s continue.
Oct. 23 at Kentucky TBA = Suxs, even though it’s at KY Jelly, we still win, as they suck bad, worse than UGA, still no ranked teams and we are 7-1. Dawg fans are really excited and rubbing one out in the doublewides, as they can smell the NC, but it won’t happen. let’s continue.
Oct. 30 at 3 Florida TBA = LOSS as usual. First ranked team we play all year and will lose as usual in Jacksonville, which will put us at 19 out of 22 against the almighty gators. Now, we are 7-2 and fall to 14th in the polls, which is still way overated. NC hopes are fading, but the dawgchit nation still believe. Let’s continue.
Nov. 6 vs. Idaho State TBA = Pathetic = win, doesn’t matter if the gym mutts played this team, as they are absolutely a joke. Remmeber we are 14th and played only one preseason ranked team. We are now 8-2 and the Dawgs are getting excited and rubbing another one out in their doublewide trailers. However, we don’t move up in the polls, as we get no credit for beating such a louzy joke of a team. Let’s continue.
Nov. 13 at Auburn TBA = Mediocre at best. Probably lose this one, as it’ at Auburn. However, still played only one ranked team so far. Now, we are 8-3 and Dawg fans are calling for CMR to resign. LMFAO! Let’s continue.
Nov. 27 vs. 13 Georgia Tech = Good and equals loss. The second and only ranked team with the exception of UF that we play. We now are 9-3 and all hopes are gone of a NC. Not only do you lose to GT, but they tear down your hedges and celebrate. Can’t wait. So that sums up our year.
FOR ALL YOU DAWG FANS THAT THINK YOUR SCHEDULE IS TOUGH, YOUR CLUELESS, AS IT’s AN ABSOLUTE JOKE. YOU PLAY TWO PRESEASON RANKED TEAMS AND THAT’s IT. YOUR LOUZY TEAM IS NOW UNRANKED AND PLAYING IN THE PEACH BOWL. HOWEVER, DON’t GET DOWN, AS NEXT YEAR YOU WIN IT ALL. THWG!

Brantley is a good QB at Florida – a much better passer than Tebow ever was… and was rated the #3 QB coming out of high school. He couldn’t beat out Colt McCoy and didn’t want to sit on the bench so he transferred back to his home state – Florida. The reason Florida’s offense won’t be as good this year is they won’t have Pouncy on the o-line and the receivers are mostly inexperienced. The real drop off at Florida will be the defense with so many turning pro and a new defensive coordinator. They will miss Charley Strong.

Murray is listed at 6′1 1/2″ tall – who knows if that is over stated? He is slightly taller than Joe “Turnover” Cox but he is much more mobile and that will help. The QB from North Carolina they are after (Chris LeMay) is listed at 6′2″ but he runs a 4.6 40 which is good for a QB.

So that means Florida is the toughest game.

join me in the crusade, one and all, give up hope and feel better. Due to the 9 dark clouds, Georgia under richt simply will not have a great year.
Lower expectations people, become hopeless, like me, join me. It feels so much better. No dissapointment. No dreams unfulfilled. Expect Georgia and Richt to lose every game, then if it happens, you’ll feel so much better, because you lowered expectations.

Hey OJ (Orange Julius? are u serious?) I know your post was a couple of days ago but I’m guessing one of your Tech buddies will tell you about this reply. You are a jacka$$….did you see last years draft. Massaqaui, Stafford Morreno ring a bell? Stafford and Knowshawn were underclassman – in other words…had they stuck around like MCcoy, Tebow, etc, they would’ve gone in the 1st round this year…you sir are an idiot. Stupid Stupid Stupid….

Brantley’s a very good QB, but he’s a finesse type player and needs great receivers to run that offense. florida’s receivers are good, but not great and they have a mediocre running game. Tebow made that offense great–he’s gone. The Dawgs can beat florida with a decent O and a much better D, which they should have.

To be honest, I wish we had Murray on our team. Until we as Tech fans start expecting to beat UGA then we will always be the first loser in this state. Paul Johnson has proven nothing except that he can beat Duke or Virginia. Come on! If we can’t win a bowl game or beat our in-state rival then we will never have any National Respect. If we don’t beat UGA and win our bowl game next year than I believe Paul Johnson should be on the hot seat. Just saying!

On another note, most of the Tech fans on this blog are an embarrasement to my alma mater and if you can’t support my yellow jackets without obsessing about UGA then please find another team to support. We have our own issues to address!
