So what was it like, Aaron Murray’s first day on campus as Georgia’s No. 1 quarterback?
“It was cool,” Murray said Friday afternoon. “A couple of people said, ‘Congratulations.’ It was in the paper, I guess.
“It’s pretty cool. It’s exciting. It’s definitely something I’ve always looked forward to, taking this job. I’ve just got to keep working and make sure I solidify my spot for that first game of the year.”
Murray got another taste of the celebrity that comes with being Georgia’s quarterback when the school set up a mid-afternoon conference call Friday for him to speak with a half dozen reporters.
Coach Mark Richt announced Thursday that Murray is the No. 1 quarterback on the Bulldogs’ post-spring depth chart but cautioned that being the top Dog at this point doesn’t guarantee starting the season opener Sept. 4. Murray understands that caveat, even as he receives congratulatory calls and texts.
“I heard from family and friends who just said, ‘Congratulations thus far, just continue to work hard,’ basically stuff like that,” Murray said. “I’ve talked to my family, and they have the same feeling as I do –- it’s just one step and it’s not a done deal or anything like that.
“I’m No. 1 after spring. I’m not No. 1 for the season. I’m not No. 1 for Sept. 4. There’s still work to do, but they’re definitely happy for me, excited for me, that I’m doing well right now.”
Although Murray reached the top of the depth chart on the basis of his work throughout spring practice, he acknowledged that his performance in the G-Day intra-squad game was sub-par. He completed 10 of 22 passes for 96 yards, with one interception.
“I think I was maybe just a little amped up,” Murray said Friday. “I talked to Coach [Mike] Bobo about it, and he thought I was little juiced up, a little too excited, and some of my passes were a little overthrown.
“You’re not going to have your best day every day. It wasn’t great that . . . G-Day wasn’t my best day. But I think [the coaches] just basically took the spring as a whole and based their [depth-chart] decision on that. . . . Hopefully next [season] I won’t be making the same mistakes I made in the G-Day game.”
Murray, a redshirt freshman, said he plans a summer of hard work to prepare for preseason camp and to prove to teammates “that even though I’m young . . . I’m not going to let them down when the season comes.”

Aaron rents needs to have a special in honor of our new QB Aaron!
That place is my favorite place to shop. Just wish they’d let me keep the stuff longer, before sending someone to pick it up.

Brantley is a good QB at Florida – a much better passer than Tebow ever was… and was rated the #3 QB coming out of high school. He couldn’t beat out Colt McCoy and didn’t want to sit on the bench so he transferred back to his home state – Florida. The reason Florida’s offense won’t be as good this year is they won’t have Pouncy on the o-line and the receivers are mostly inexperienced. The real drop off at Florida will be the defense with so many turning pro and a new defensive coordinator. They will miss Charley Strong.

Murray is listed at 6′1 1/2″ tall – who knows if that is over stated? He is slightly taller than Joe “Turnover” Cox but he is much more mobile and that will help. The QB from North Carolina they are after (Chris LeMay) is listed at 6′2″ but he runs a 4.6 40 which is good for a QB.

Heh REEK – you do reek and I can smell you from that mugger ravaged landfill of a sewer they call the Tech campus… no way is UGA going to lose to the Techmites. Keeping score? UGA has dominated them 9 of the last 10 years and the the trend shall continue. Tech lost their defense to the NFL and now they have to depend on Johnson’s recruits on defense – good luck with that QB less offense and green d-line.

REEK- You are an idiot
Tech wouldn’t last with our schedule, that’s why you play teams like virginia, north carolina state, and wake forest(which are powerhouses to tech)
The only reason we play Idaho state is because our schedule is tough and we don’t get a by week until the week before we play tech.

Murray’s over 6 feet tall—this stuff that he’s only 5′11″ is from tech fans angry at their mickey mouse offense with short option QBs. The Dawgs beat tech in 2009 and will beat them worse in 2010—mark it down!

Georgia’s schedule this year is pretty nice as Richt has been dominant against 4 of the 5 toughest games.
Ga Tech–Richt has 8-1 record
Auburn Richt is 4-0
S. Carolina-Richt is 7-2
Kentucky Richt is 7-2
So that means Florida is the toughest game.
Rush well, and win the turnover battle against Florida, and with this schedule and Richt’s success against these teams, it might be Richt’s best year yet.

chicken little said “richt got lucky with his 90 wins”….haha, you other fans are always so scared of a UGA team that is “irrelevant” as you like to say. watch out for AU in the west, UGA v. AU rematch for the SEC champ game, AU wins in the regular season but Dawgs win the ’ship, wait and see….

If I am so skeptical of all things Georgia, does that mean I have to be skeptical about my skepticism of Georgia this year? No. That’s the one thing I am not skeptical about. Never.
I have learned to never get my hopes up, so I’m never dissapointed. Since I gave up hope, I feel SOOO much better.

why comment? I am trying to warn Georgia fans of the 9 dark clouds on the horizon so they can give up hope and feel as good as me because, the sky is falling, chunks coming down, down, pieces everywhere. I can see it all–the big storm coming. No one else can see the 9 dark clouds forming. So I must tell the world about the 9 clouds of doom and gloom for Georgia and Coach Richt.

join me in the crusade, one and all, give up hope and feel better. Due to the 9 dark clouds, Georgia under richt simply will not have a great year.
Lower expectations people, become hopeless, like me, join me. It feels so much better. No dissapointment. No dreams unfulfilled. Expect Georgia and Richt to lose every game, then if it happens, you’ll feel so much better, because you lowered expectations.

Hey OJ (Orange Julius? are u serious?) I know your post was a couple of days ago but I’m guessing one of your Tech buddies will tell you about this reply. You are a jacka$$….did you see last years draft. Massaqaui, Stafford Morreno ring a bell? Stafford and Knowshawn were underclassman – in other words…had they stuck around like MCcoy, Tebow, etc, they would’ve gone in the 1st round this year…you sir are an idiot. Stupid Stupid Stupid….

Brantley’s a very good QB, but he’s a finesse type player and needs great receivers to run that offense. florida’s receivers are good, but not great and they have a mediocre running game. Tebow made that offense great–he’s gone. The Dawgs can beat florida with a decent O and a much better D, which they should have.

To be honest, I wish we had Murray on our team. Until we as Tech fans start expecting to beat UGA then we will always be the first loser in this state. Paul Johnson has proven nothing except that he can beat Duke or Virginia. Come on! If we can’t win a bowl game or beat our in-state rival then we will never have any National Respect. If we don’t beat UGA and win our bowl game next year than I believe Paul Johnson should be on the hot seat. Just saying!

On another note, most of the Tech fans on this blog are an embarrasement to my alma mater and if you can’t support my yellow jackets without obsessing about UGA then please find another team to support. We have our own issues to address!
