Richt has ‘big news,’ but not about QBs (PLUS: Hoops transfer finds new home)

(Updated 3 p.m.)

Buck Belue and John Kincade were hoping for big news from Mark Richt on their 680 The Fan show Wednesday afternoon.

“Coach, let’s cut right to the chase today,” Belue said. “We’re expecting this big announcement on the quarterbacks. You want to go ahead and make that today live on our show?”

“Well, I do have big news,” Richt responded. “I got big news.”

And the news is . . .

“We got at least eight or nine guys,” Richt said, “graduating in this semester.”

As for that other piece of news Bulldog Nation awaits: No news yet.

Richt said after the G-Day game that he hoped to have a post-spring depth chart (at quarterback and all other positions) available by the end of this week. But Georgia sports information director Claude Felton sent out an e-mail this morning with word that the depth chart shouldn’t be expected this week after all.

Maybe next week.

The position coaches are still in the process of “exit interviews” with their players. Those one-on-one meetings are held after spring practice each year for coaches to provide players an assessment of where they stand and what they need to work on over the summer. Richt has said the depth chart won’t be posted until all players have had their meetings.

Slowing the process: Several coaches have been out of town this week, visiting practices at other schools.

On the radio with Belue and Kincade, Richt offered no hints about the quarterback pecking order.

“My brother Craig got a chance to go to all the [spring] scrimmages and the G-Day game,” Richt said. “But after every scrimmage he had a different guy he liked.

“So it’s not as clear-cut as anybody might want to think. It’s hard to have somebody just heads and tails above the others when they’re all very talented guys. If one guy was just flat-out better than the other guys by a long shot, it’d be real easy. But the good news is, we’ve got some very capable guys. It’s tough to make the call. ”

———————————————

Drazen Zlovaric, who left Georgia’s basketball program last month with plans to transfer to another school, has found his new home.

The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga announced today that Zlovaric, a 6-foot-9 sophomore forward from Serbia, has signed scholarship papers and will join Mocs program. He’ll have to sit out the 2010-11 season under NCAA transfer rules, then will have two years of eligibility remaining.

Zlovaric played in 43 games for Georgia the past two seasons, averaging 6.3 minutes and 1.0 points. He said he was transferring in search of more playing time.

Zlovaric first came to the United States in the fall of 2006 as an exchange student at Cleveland (Tenn.) High School, near Chattanooga. He played one basketball season there. He finished his prep career at the Patterson School in Lenoir, N.C.

“We are thrilled to get him,” Chattanooga coach John Shulman said in announcing Zlovaric’s signing. “He is skilled, athletic and loves the game. His work ethic is off the charts.”

murray didn’t look too bad on g-day.

should have had a td to aj but overthrew him. should have had a 2nd td but overthrew orson, and then a wr in the end zone neat the end of the game.

the 1 int should have been thrown to a checkdown guy, like an rb instead of throwing to 2 on 1 coverage and lockign down on his #1 option.

we’ll get behind coach richt, whoever he picks.

but we will all hold coach richt accountable to protect the ball this year with the qb.

U know, UGA has one of the best Gymnastic programs in the nation. But we never come on these blogs and discuss it. Because football is all that matters. You Tech nerd loser freaks can harp on baseball, basketball, space engineering, or whatever else. But when it comes down to it. You hate UGA cause you ain’t UGA. You have never been the FOOTBALL program we have. The girls are vastly hotter and we can get 92,000 to a football game in a town that is much less populated than Atlanta.

By the way, Mettenberger is gonna be awesome. He is a pro style freak and he ain’t scared of the pocket. Steps in and delivers the ball 50 yards down the field.

In a survey a while back by Bill King, very few fans think Georgia will ever win a Natl Champ with Richt. #117 in peanlties, #118 in takeaways, #117 in giveaways. You just can’t win like this.

Here’s my question:
If Richt has another 40 fumbles and interceptions this year, and leads the nation as the worst team in penalties, takeaways and giveaways, and gets fired this year, who should replace him next season?

Big News: Mark Richt had a -17 turnover margin in 2009. Boise St. was +10, Alabama was +14. If Mark Richt has a -17 turnover margin again, he’s gonna be coaching at La Lafeyette.

Chris Petersen, Boise St. Head Coach, had a +19 turnover margin. He’s at the top f my list to replace Richt if the beat yourself stuff continues. Kirby Smart or Muschamp wouldn’t be bad either, both are great at turnover margin..

Good stuff guys.

got this from blogs.onlineathens.com

Here are the statistics from all three spring scrimmages (including G-Day):

Zach Mettenberger 23 of 36 (63.9 percent) for 433 yards with 5 TD passes and 1 INT

Logan Gray 23 of 42 for (54.8 percent) for 280 yards with 2 TD passes and 1 INT

Aaron Murray 33 of 56 (58.9 percent) for 380 yards with 2 TD passes and 3 INTs

Big L ……You might just be right, Mett does have that cannon, stands in the pocket fearlessly, and has all the talent in the world, however, I still would put my money on Murray. The kid is just as tall as Drew Brees, is quicker shooting from the hip, and has that “it” factor, but we’ll see………..The most important thing is getting someone in a game and getting rid of those jitters……..I believe CMR is going to put the guy in that shows he has the maturity to manage the game, and not try to be a hero. Hell, we will have the best Oline in the SEC, and with Washaun, Caleb, and Dontavious totin the tater, we shouldn’t have to throw the ball until we are good and ready………………….And this baseball crap makes my rear end burn………couldn’t give a rats butt !!! congratulations to the bees for beating us in baseball, I seriously don’t think that will happen on the football field come November…………..And after all if I do watch baseball, I watch the type that uses wood bats, none of this metal crap…………GO DOGS !!! GATA !!! SIC’ ‘EM WOOOF…….WOOOF….WOOOF……..WOOOF !!!!

While Richt continues to be very indecisive AGAIN, reps pass by the eventual QB starter.

The #1 guy is splitting his reps with 2 other guys right now, waiting on Richt to make up his mind and make a decision.

We need the #1 guy to start getting the reps to be “the guy”. you don’t get better getting 1/3 of the snaps. that’s ridiculous and a fomula for failure.

Make a decision. The head coach SHOULD know what he’s looking for in a QB. That’s what a head coach is for.

dECIDE. or let your QB’s imporve maginally compared to your competition who can make a choice.

AltamahaDawg :
“Debose, do you believe Mark Richt is not one of the top 7 coaches in the SEC right now? Don’t give a flip what you say they said on a TV show. I am asking you, as a football fan. Name the 7 better coaches in the SEC, and why you consider them to be.”

Coach Richt is better than Nick Saban. That’s obvious.
Coach Richt is better than Urban Meyer. That’s obvious.
Coach Richt is better than Les Miles. That’s obvious.
Coach Richt is better than Mack Brown. That’s obvious.
Coach Richt is better than Chris Peterson. That’s obvious.
Coach Richt is better than Jim Tressel. That’s obvious.
Coach Richt is better than Brian Kelly. That’s obvious.
Coach Richt is better than Pete Carroll was. That’s obvious.
Coach Richt is better than Bob Stoops. That’s obvious.

Coach Richt has MORE TO WORK WITH than all these coaches, but they ALL have a better coaching STAFF than Coach Richt.

Of course, only California, Texas, and Florida have more high school football player who go on to the NFL than the state of Georgia.

But, we cannot get out of our Division, let alone out of our own Conference to go beat a Top 10 Final AP Poll in a big bowl game.

Coach Richt JUST FIRED his entire Defensive Coaching Staff, and FIRED his entire Special Teams’ Coaching Staff, and last week announced in public that he has completely taken over the Entire Offensive Coaching Staff after they failed to sign any state of Georgia high school all-stars on Offense.

1-3 vs Florida last 4 years
1-3 vs vols last 4 years
10-10 vs SEC East teams the last 4 years

Oh, Coach Richt is obviously better than all these coaches and about 25 more who are all ranked AHEAD of Coach Richt in the Top 25 teams for 2010.

Again.

With no QB ready for 2010, just as he did not have in 2006 and 2009.
With 21 fumbles a year the last 4 years.
With 14 interceptions thrown a year the last 4 years.
With the # 96 NCAA average ranking in Penalties the last 4 years.
And, he stubbornly kept all his entire coaching staff all coaching positions they did NOT play.

Redshirted Knowshon Moreno 2006 so we got to see him 2 years only 2007 & 2008.
Ripped Redshirt off Washaun Ealey in 3rd quarter of the 5th game only to see him lead UGA in rushing, but still only got 2 starts all season, and not even the last 2 games.
Started Joe Tereshinski III ahead of then # 2 Joe Cox and then # 3 Matthew Stafford 2006.
Lost to EVERY SEC East team in a row consecutively 2007 and 2008.
Watched SEC Coaches all of whom he is better than win the last 5 National Championships in a row.
Has had 92 arrested / suspended football players in the Coach Richt Era, but you say EVERY school has that. They do NOT.
Had 2 passes thrown to Marlon Brown all season last year.
Had 2 passes thrown to Branden Smith all season last year.
Did NOT start capable Zach Mettenberger but Joe Cox who led nation in turnovers.
Lost 14 games the last 4 years now, while Jim Donnan was fired for losing 13 his last 4 years here.
Started Aaron White for making 3 catches his freshman year at TE.
Took until 12th game of 13-game season to Start Orson Charles with 23 catches his freshman year TE.
FAILED to sign the Offensive Recruits in the state of Georgia only to let ALL these coaches listed all come in here and STEAL them right here from us.
All these coaches whom Coach Richt LOSES to.
Cannot get out of his own division.
Says Caleb King is his Starting Running Back.
Said he was NOT going to fire Willie Martinez his Prayer Partner since college.
Says he never hires NFL coaches because they will NEVER BE SATISFIED coaching with him.
Says NFL coaches will just leave, heaven forbid they actually RECOGNIZE TALENT and start the best players and figures a way to get them on the field, not SENIORITY.
Criticized by Logan Gray 3 weeks ago at start of Spring Practice for NOT giving Logan Gray the Starting QB job LAST YEAR.
Coached Logan Gray up to the point now in his 4th year here with this Offensive Coaching Staff, he has 0 TD passes, 2 interceptions and a grand total in 4 years now of 5 completions. John Brantley is a lot better than that, just against Coach Richt.
Coached Joe Cox up so well that even with a sore arm where he could not practice, that even then with the flu having to be flown to Okie State in a private jet, that he starts him anyway instead of Zach Mettenberger who should have, obviously to all now.
Has not won SEC Championship in 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, and has zero hope for 2010.
Loses 14 Seniors and 5 Juniors all starters off this year’s team.
Obviously isn’t going to win any SEC Championship after this year either.
Passed by by Urban Meyer, Nick Saban and Les Miles just in his own Conference.
Glaring how the kids of this state on Offense ALL signed with then instead.
Had 2 Players he recruited arrested / suspended DURING SPRING PRACTICE.
Before the Summer even starts.
Has 1 player arrested / suspended EVERY MONTH for 9 years in a row now.
Has lost to 8 teams not ranked in the Top 25 even of the Final AP Poll the year he lost to them.
Has won 3 and lost 8 games against teams in the Top 10 of the Final AP Poll.
Said he knocked the LID OFF UGA’S Football Program by beating # 4 vols Final AP Poll 2001 but LOST to Florida, lost to South Carolina, lost to Boson College and lost to Auburn – that is knocking the lid off this program ? B.S.
Has FAILED to beat a single Top 10 Final AP Poll team in any bowl game, ever.

It’s not the players’ abilities that a lot of fans are concerned about. It’s the abilities of certain of the coaching staff that fans are concerned about. One in particular. The next two seasons will answer those questions one way or the other. Probably for the better.

Here’s who is on speed dial for UGA’s evenas if Richt leads the nation in worst turnover margin and penalties again.

Here’s Richt’s rear view mirror. Compete, or get replaced.

1. Mark Richt
2. Chris Petersen
3. Kirby Smart
4. Will Muschamp

I feel sorry for Grantham. He’s one of the best defensive minds in the game, and he’s going to see what it’s like ot have a Head Coach who doesn’t care about turnovers or penalties. He’s going to have to try and defend the ball form his own 20 yard line thanks to the 40 fumbles and interceptions. He’s going to have to try and recover from a -17 turnover magin and over 100 penalties a year. Dumb self inflicted mistakes. Grantham is among the best, but he won’t be getting any help from the offense this year.

Looks like Coach Richt’s in love with the QB who leads the team in turnovers (Murray has 3, Gray and Mettenberger only have 1–watch who gets #1 on the depth chart, seen it before, remember Joe Cox?).

Unreal.

Got to love these folks coming out of the woodwork to discuss T/O and penalties. Where were you all when some of us were trying to say those have a pretty big bearing on the final score of a football game?

Needs major improvement, But jeez! “doesn’t care”? And somehow Cox gave some indication he was going to be TO prone, but coaches were just too in Love with him to care? yea, thats right.

Speaking of Coaches that dont care about penalties, Fl has been 12th,11th,12th,11th,11th,7th in penalties (sec) under UM. He doesnt care. LSU hasnt been far off. Take a look at the most penalized team in the nation year after year, and you will see a lot of high profile coaches not caring. Because to have them, only comes from not caring I guess. LSU and UF both won the sec and the NC being worst in the league. Obviously proving they don;t care about it, or ever try to improve.

I pretty sure Richt did care about the -17 TO margin, Given that he discussed it repeatedly.

Although in his 9 yrs in the SEC, he does have one of the best teams in the league in that category about every other year. He’s overdue now, so let’s hope he just decides he is going to “care” about this year. Maybe the players will just decide to care too.

Joe Cox had 331 passes in 2009. Threw 15 int’s.

Joe Cox threw 1 int every 22 passes.

Aaron Murray had 56 passes in the 3 scrimmages. Threw 3 int’s.

Aaron Murray threw 1 int every 18.6 passes.

Which means, over a season, Aaron Murray would break Joe Cox’s interception record by 20% MORE interceptions than Joe Cox.

Want to win the SEC?

Looking for a common link in all 12 SEC titles for Geoprgia football?

All 12 times UGA has won the SEC Championship in college football, all 12 times it was with a QB from the STATE OF GEORGIA.

Why? Could be pride, work ethic, loyalty to stay 4 years, grew up dreaming about playing for Georgia, more social support systems, etc.

Zach Mettenberger and Hutson Mason are BOTH from the state of Georgia.
