Richt has ‘big news,’ but not about QBs (PLUS: Hoops transfer finds new home)

(Updated 3 p.m.)

Buck Belue and John Kincade were hoping for big news from Mark Richt on their 680 The Fan show Wednesday afternoon.

“Coach, let’s cut right to the chase today,” Belue said. “We’re expecting this big announcement on the quarterbacks. You want to go ahead and make that today live on our show?”

“Well, I do have big news,” Richt responded. “I got big news.”

And the news is . . .

“We got at least eight or nine guys,” Richt said, “graduating in this semester.”

As for that other piece of news Bulldog Nation awaits: No news yet.

Richt said after the G-Day game that he hoped to have a post-spring depth chart (at quarterback and all other positions) available by the end of this week. But Georgia sports information director Claude Felton sent out an e-mail this morning with word that the depth chart shouldn’t be expected this week after all.

Maybe next week.

The position coaches are still in the process of “exit interviews” with their players. Those one-on-one meetings are held after spring practice each year for coaches to provide players an assessment of where they stand and what they need to work on over the summer. Richt has said the depth chart won’t be posted until all players have had their meetings.

Slowing the process: Several coaches have been out of town this week, visiting practices at other schools.

On the radio with Belue and Kincade, Richt offered no hints about the quarterback pecking order.

“My brother Craig got a chance to go to all the [spring] scrimmages and the G-Day game,” Richt said. “But after every scrimmage he had a different guy he liked.

“So it’s not as clear-cut as anybody might want to think. It’s hard to have somebody just heads and tails above the others when they’re all very talented guys. If one guy was just flat-out better than the other guys by a long shot, it’d be real easy. But the good news is, we’ve got some very capable guys. It’s tough to make the call. ”

———————————————

Drazen Zlovaric, who left Georgia’s basketball program last month with plans to transfer to another school, has found his new home.

The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga announced today that Zlovaric, a 6-foot-9 sophomore forward from Serbia, has signed scholarship papers and will join Mocs program. He’ll have to sit out the 2010-11 season under NCAA transfer rules, then will have two years of eligibility remaining.

Zlovaric played in 43 games for Georgia the past two seasons, averaging 6.3 minutes and 1.0 points. He said he was transferring in search of more playing time.

Zlovaric first came to the United States in the fall of 2006 as an exchange student at Cleveland (Tenn.) High School, near Chattanooga. He played one basketball season there. He finished his prep career at the Patterson School in Lenoir, N.C.

“We are thrilled to get him,” Chattanooga coach John Shulman said in announcing Zlovaric’s signing. “He is skilled, athletic and loves the game. His work ethic is off the charts.”

If those Gnat fans what to talk baseball, that is fine. I just have one question for them. Where’s is your College World Series trophy? Oh wait. You don’t have one. Not just shut your pie holes. I know it’s been a while we won ours. But it’s still one more than what you got. Deal with it.

Sorry to disappoint you folks, but I’m still hoping Logan Gray gets the job. Then if he struggles, they can bring in someone else. And I do believe he is far better then Joe T. or Joe C. But thats just me…

It doesn’t matter who the QB is, South Carolina is going to eat him alive in a hostile enviroment and with Georgia’s old friend Spurrier now calling the plays that will be loss #1.

Out of all the hundred’s of students in Remerton the
weekend Mett got busted, he was singled out on a
tip to the Remerton chief of police who is an avid
GATER fan. He got set up, and I think he deserves
a second chance. I don’t condone what happened,
but my stars this is college life.
Remerton is a ten acre ol’ mill town community smack
dab in the middle of Remerton, who passed Sunday
liquor laws for income, and has four policemen who
prey on students to generate more income.

I wouldnt tell that info on the ‘Buck and Kincade’ show anyways. Buck is an absolute moron who somehow is still riding the coat tails of #34. If he hadnt been the one who handed the ball to Herschel…..he’d never have gotten a shot to become a nasal sounding radio jockey. And, can you believe he actually wanted to take over for Munson??? What an idiot!!!

Not a UGA fan here, but don’t be shocked if Murray starts the opener & the South Carolina game & win or lose, Mettenberger takes over shortly after. He’s got the big Stafford type Pro-Style QB Body, looks great in flashes & will be UGA’s next QB IMO. We’ll see…

So, while you all sit there and jump on the graduation bandwagon, I point out that I said all along that we would have 8 or 9 graduate this semester last year. And, that this is exactly where we would be in the graduation rate. Exactly as I said all along.

Bama won a NC last year with a new QB. As long as we dont turn the ball over….we’ll be fine. All the qb is going to have to do is pull an ol Buck and hand the ball off to Ealey and King. Occassionally throw the ball to Green, Charles, TK, and Durham. How hard can that be?? Our Defense will be better this year…..NC type defense?? Prolly not but we’ll be able to compete with all of our opponents. We cut back on the turnovers play good defense……good things will come our way. Its that simple. And all three of our qbs are capable of running our offense.

It’s funny how the few girls who graduate from Tech walk around like they are dime pieces but at UGA they wouldn’t be able to pay for a date. My guess is this is becuase there are so few girls there and they get a huge ego boost by getting hit on by a bunch of socially awkard nerds. I am very confident that Sarah is one these Georgia Yech girls. Sarah if you were a dog, I would shave your arse and teach it to walk backwards.

I was at the Gday game and I don’t buy the fact that Mettenberger only played with the 2nd team and against the 2nd team… Can someone name 1 WR that played on the 2nd team other than Wooten that will dress out this year…. the 2nd defense had several players in the LB/Secondary that will contribute in the fall…. I was impressed with Mettenberger and Murray looked like Joe Cox…….

Old Guy

CMR likes to go with the upper classman in these situations. Don’t be surprised if Gray is the starting QB in 142 days. You guys who want Mettenberger are nuts. Remind yourself what Stafford did his first year against those SEC defenses. Mett is no Stafford and in fact he did not even play against the best high school talent in the state. He would be a turnover machine. Those numbers in Spring came against a 2nd string D. Don’t get ahead of yourselves here. I’ve seen a lot of “it’s Murray’s job to lose” and it is clear that he has yet to jump out and prove that statement. Thus leaving you with the only QB with any experience and experience counts for quite a lot.

If the decision on the starter is really that close a competition then the decision may come down to who is best to start which will ensure team success (in other words who can start game one and be best prepared for SC). Mett may have screwed himself ever having a chance to start for a Div 1 school with his actions. Which would have a real negative on his potential pro career. Talk about how a bad decision can impact the rest of your life!

If ever there was a case of “actions have consequences” then this may be a prime example for future players.

Mett showed good decison making, pocket presence, and a rifle of an arm…maybe he’s not the #1 QB because he does not command the respect of his teammates in the intangible areas…just sayin’.

BrokeBackJacket

Unless it is because of injury…..Gray will not start a game at QB for UGA!

I was convinced that Murray was and is the starting QB in waiting for the dawgs….BUT I was quite impressed with Mett in the g-day game. While not being very mobile..he does seem to have great pocket awarness and stepped un into the pocket and made some really nice throws…and he certainly has the body type and arm of an NFL type QB!

All that said…the decision will not be based just on G-day performance…and personally I was pleasantly surprised at Mett’s performance and look at it as a positive that we have the option of Murray and Mett…either of which will be a BIG time improvement over Cox!

[...] Urban Meyer won’t be traveling the booster circuit this summer.7.  Sorry, Georgia fans.  It doesn’t look like Mark Richt will make a quarterback decision this week after all.8.  Regardless of who Richt places in the top spot, QB candidate Aaron Murray [...]

I for one do not have a Mett man crush but you have to say that he took what the “D” gave him. IF one receiver had been covered, he showed me enough to believe he would have thrown the ball somewhere else. 2nd team “D” or not, he put the ball where it needed to be. Murray had wide open receivers (AJ) behind the “D” and missed the throws. Nerves or not…Mett looked better that Saturday!

If everyone will think back to the Greene/Shockley days…..Shockley looked horrible when he’d come in for his ’series’ of downs. No one cussed Richt for doing that as much as i did. Greene would be in a rythm and get pulled for Shockley. Based on Shock’s performance during those times…..i was ready to name Blake Barnes the starter for the next season. Once Shock got his chance to be the man…..he did excellent. Point is…..maybe its the same thing with Logan. Logan is the same type QB that Shockley was….he can run and throw. Lets give him a chance where he knows he’s not in for just a series or one snap and let the boy play!!! He had a better day at GDay than Murray. I think we have a good quarterback in him.

In the end, as another poster pointed out, we will be running the ball a good bit and QB will mostly be required to not lose the game for us. I think Murray, Mett and Gray can all handle that task from a talent standpoint. In the end, put the guy with the best head on his shoulders in the game.
