Finishing off the G-Day leftovers:
The turnout was enough for Todd Grantham to envision what the place will be like with 92,000-plus in the fall.
“We need to make sure the stadium becomes a benefit to our defense,” the new defensive coordinator said in the locker room after G-Day. “If [it's] loud, with the things we’re going to be doing, it can be very difficult for an offense to change plays [and] protections.
“When you’re loud at home, the offense has to go on a silent count. That means everybody’s moving on the ball. Basically, the advantage that the offense has is no longer there. I’m definitely going to encourage our fans to be as loud as they can be from here on out.”
Tailback, for example. Will Caleb King, who started the final five games last season, or Washaun Ealey be listed as No. 1? Or will they be co-No. 1’s?
In the secondary, Bacarri Rambo figures to be No. 1 at one safety, but will Jakar Hamilton or Nick Williams be No. 1 at the other? And with Brandon Boykin entrenched at one corner, will rising senior Vance Cuff be No. 1 at the other? (The coaches’ spring awards suggest so. Boykin and Cuff were named the most improved defensive players.)
Also, it will be interesting to see where Darryl Gamble is slotted on the post-spring depth chart, given his move from inside linebacker to outside linebacker in the final week of spring ball.
And tight end will bear a look. Aron White is the returning starter, but Orson Charles was working with the first unit much of the spring. Both are expected to have big roles.
If you missed it: Five things we learned from spring practice.

Sweet Home Alabama question how damn loud was the Tide the 6 or 7 years in a row you lost to Auburn ?? I could hear pins drop during those classic games. Do something worthwhile and shine St.Nick’s boots would you maybe he’ll hang around longer.

Preston 2 good point. UGA can and should contend in the East, results TBA. And Grantham from day one has said the right things. He is certainly wise to challenge the fans to get excited. I think they will deliver for him. If nothing else, the fans actually wanting the coaching staff to be there will help.

UGA fans are not very loud, but not as bad as Tech. I went to Standford expexting wild football crowd but that place was lame, and they won (against Tech)
I been to Auburn, Alabama, Tenn and Clemson and those fans rock the house, I not a fan of them but I go to the games with friends just to enjoy the atmosphere. Don’t know why Tech and UGA fans are so quit.
UGA seem to get loader when UGA makes a mistake, evenone screaming at the coaches or players for messing up and stuff.

I like what I’m hearing from Coach G. and agree, we must be louder in Sanford Stadium. A few house cleaning items first….Students and fans, get to your seats before the Redcoats start pre-game. Cheerleaders, be more innovative to encurage fan participation. The Redcoats can’t do it along.
Attending UGA during the Glory Years was awesome with all the fans getting loud. This year, let’s be as loud as we were when the Dawgs came out in Black aginst Auburn……fear “The Hedges”

One of the things that I have noticed about the accounts from Georgia Fans of how loud various other stadiums are, is the amazing coincidence of who the opponent was.

Tide Rising there is something to be said for being the underdog..the latter part of 07 was LOUD ! And the Sugar Bowl vs Hawaii was insane…victory may breed complacency..but it do beat losing !

Tide Rising, the Alabama crowd is much louder in recent years? Odd. Might need somebody to study that situation.
Hey, speaking of “revoking” ticket right, I like the SC system. they have some kind of loyalty/attendance points scale. Don’t go to enough events, back of the line. Not sure they can dictate when the frat boys leave though.
I am betting that all the SEC ticket offices have got those allocations formulas, about as accurate as possible. Students literally not being to attend games is more myth than reality.

Well CTG,
If your DE’s hussle on everyplay like David Pollack did, if your DB’s intercept passes like Champ Bailey did, and if your Safety’s put licks on folks like Greg Belue and Thomas Davis did: believe me fans will get out of their seats and cheer. I appreciate the appeal to the fans and the gameday experience, but ultimately its going to come down to fundamentals. The bells and whistles are nice Coach, but nothing will get the fans out of their seats better or faster than good hard nosed football.

AltaDawg, “Tennnessee Coach’s Dad Stadium” ? LMAO! Too funny.
Really people, if you are there get up and cheer your team on. IMO Grantham will have an agressive defense so it might be confusing at first after watching the WM era of waiting for the ball to come to you.
Hopefully Grantham will have the defense making you want to cheer.

Can anyone explain some of the decisions that have been made at North Avenue Tech?
1. Alabama Linebacker Darwin Hoke hit Tech running back with an elbow and rearranged his nose. After that they decided they did not want to play with the “big boys” and bailed out of the SEC — Stupid move .
2. At one time Grant Field was a nice place to watch a football game. Attendance fell off and they decided to tear down half of the field in order to have sellouts. — Stupid move – they still can’t sell the place out.
3. Being a part of one of the best basketball conferences they play in a gym that holds 6,000 to 7,000. Another stupid move tear down that joke of a basketball gym and build one that can generate more basketball revenue.

As for crowd noise, I’ve been to some loud football games at Sanford. 2002 Clemson game was really loud as was 2004 vs. LSU. And I wasn’t there, but I heard the 2007 Blackout game was crazy loud. I think UGA fans are more than willing to get behind their team IF the team is taking care of business on the field. At least that has been my experience.

They are already have it in the works to bring the 600 section all the way around to the sky boxes. Georgia Power has already been looking to move the lines on East Campus but it does take a lot of money to move that 3 phase line. I believe it will add around another 9000 to 10000 more seats.

I went to the last Bama/UGA game in B’ham. Great event (aided by UGA winning) but good lordy, that stadium! Stayed with a young lady friend that weekend at UAB, right around the corner. Also a great event. Yea.

Its just you, that was covered adnaseum. However, stepping up into the pocket and throwing a strike is what it is. Not sure the 1’s and 2’s means a lot as far as who in one the field, pretty subjective at this point, especially in the defensive depth chart. I do think he was in a better situation playing earlier.

Tampadawg96, I was at the game, and while I’m sure it would have been tougher against our no# 1 defense, Met’s poise and that cannon arm were very impressive. And, he didn’t have AJ Green and some of the other weapons. What really bothered me about Murray was he overthrew some sure TD’s.

For all the people talking mad BS about G-Day attendance numbers, you’ve got to understand something: Bama will ALWAYS have a higher spring game attendance, period. They, unlike Georgia, don’t have to compete with the Braves, Hawks, and numerous other events in Atlanta. Alabama has nothing other than the Tide, and Talladega, to look forward to year round. Don’t worry about G-Day, we’ll fill the stands in the fall, win our games, and the recruits will undoubtedly come…
